Java command giving me errors

I downloaded java 1.4.2 (with the netbeans sdk) today. The IDE seemed nice and all, but I decided just to start out the old fashioned way. I set my path to c:/Program Files/j2sdk_nb/j2sdk1.4.2/bin. I then wrote a little application and compiled it
javac HelloWorldApp.java
which gave me the file HelloWorldApp.class. I then tried to run it using
java HelloWorldApp
but, I got an error window (it said java.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvienience) and gives me options to Debug, send error report, and don't send. Just so you know the window I am talking about). I tried to run java without any arguments, to see if it would tell me options or whatever. I still got an error message. Of course, when I click on the java.exe icon in the c:/Program Files/j2sdk_nb/j2sdk1.4.2/bin directory, it goes through the options I could have used and then quickly closes, as it should, without crashing. When I use it anywhere else though, it refuses to run. My path is set correctly, or I wouldn't be able to call javac.exe. Does anybody have any ideas?
BTW, I'm using Windows XP.

You were correct. I renamed java to java1 and it works properly. Problem is, I can't leave it like that, and I can't take out my system part of the path. I'm not sure what to do.

  • Java embedding code in BPEL 2.0 giving deployment errors

    Hello,
    I am using Jdeveloper and SOA 6 11.1.1.0.6 version. BPEL 2.0
    When i use simple sysout in the java embedding it is deploying fine but when using XMLElement api in the java embedding it s giving deployment error.
    Please suggest me how to make it work.
    Please see the error message below:

    Hello Rolando Carrasco,
    Thank for responding my question. I figure out the issue. It is because we need to import the java API's what we are using in the java embedding.

  • Does driver jar file needs to be extracted before giving java command?

    I wrote a JDBC program, where it will pull the data from Sybase and Push into Oracle. That program is working fine in Eclipse IDE. But when i tried to make it make it work from the command program, by giving javac and java commands..., it didnt work.
    Finally i realised that, it is working when i extract the driver jar files (sybase and Oracle, ojdbc.jar and jconn3.jar ) using jar xvf utility.
    Do we need to do that? or is there any smart way that we can just mention the drivers path and make it work?
    For your information, i set the CLASSPATH and JDBC_HOME to the driver location.
    Please help me out

  • Why java is giving 'attempting to assign weaker access privileges'  error?

    Can some one can tell me why java is giving 'attempting to assign weaker access privileges' compile error while compiling Abhishekchild.java ?
    The two classes is :
    public class  Abhishek {
           void asd()
         System.out.println("hello");
              static String a;
              public static void main (String st[])
    public class  Abhishekchild extends Abhishek {
         private  void asd()
         System.out.println("hello");
              static String a;
              public static void main (String st[])
    }In my opinion, java compiler is showing the error , as method asd has public visibility in Abhishek. java so
    (i)it should be visble to all sub classes of Abhishek.java.
    But if we override this function in Abhishekchild.java, and change the visibility to private then it will not be available for child of Abhishekchild.java. But these children are also children of Abhishek.java*, but this violates rule (i).*
    So java shows a compilation error.

    public class Parent {
         public void asd() {
              System.out.println("Hello");
    class Child extends Parent {
         public void asd() {
              System.out.println("Hello from child");
         public static void main(String st[]) {
              Parent parentReference = new Child();
              // The reference 'parentReference' knows about Parent.
              // Parent has a public method asd, so below code looks ok.
              // But if child could set the method to private,
              // invoking the code below, would hit the object Child,
              // where asd() is not accessible - and everything fails.
              // Note - the compile visibility is checked according to
              // the reference, not the object itself.
              parentReference.asd();
    }See my comments in the code.

  • Do java programms after giving compilation error generates .class file?

    Do java programms after giving compilation error generates the .class file?
    Do any outer class may have the private as access modifier?
    If someone asks you that -do any program in java after giving a compilation error gives the .class file -do any class except(inner class)
    be defined as private or static or protected or abc or xxx Now type the
    following program
    private class test
    public static void main(String s[])
    System.out.println("Hello!How are You!!");
    -Compile it.... You must have
    received this error test.java:1:The type type can't be private. Package members are always accessible within the current package. private class
    test ^ 1 error
    Here please notify that compiler has given the
    error not the warning therfore .class file should not be created but now type
    >dir *.class
    ___________ and you will see that the
    test.class file existing in the directory nevertheless this .class file
    is executable. if you will type __________________ >java test
    it will
    wish you Hello! and suerly asks you that How are You!! ________________!
    You can test it with the following as acces modifiers and the progrm will run Ofcourse it will give you compilation error.
    protected
    xxx
    abc
    xyz
    private
    Do you have any justification?

    Hmm,
    I've been working with different versions of jdk since, if I'm not mistaken, jdk1.0.6 and never was able to get *.class with compilation errors. It was true for Windows*, Linux, and Solaris*.
    About the 'private'/'protected' modifier for the type (class) - it makes perfect sence not to allow it there: why would anyone want to create a type if no one can access it? There should be a reason for restricting your types - let's say, any inner class can be private/protected.
    For ex., you shouldn't have compile problems with this:
    class Test
    public static void main(String s[])
    System.out.println("Hello!How are You!!");
    private class ToTest{}
    Sorry, but I don't really know where you can read up on that.

    Thanks for your valuable replies.
    Regards,

    First of all... As per SAP Installation guide additional usage type BI installation is POSSIBLE.
    Please check SAP Note [883948|https://websmp130.sap-ag.de/sap(bD1lbiZjPTAwMQ==)/bc/bsp/spn/sapnotes/index2.htm?numm=883948]
    And I guess you have all the primary required components.i.e. ABAP,Java, EP, EPC ...
    Question1

    of log file SecureStoreInsert.log:
    A key/value pair with this key already exists in the store..
    Above error is basically because of JDK and not because of BI

    As per this... following could be reason.
    1. check that iaik_jce_export.jar file is NOT included into the CLASSPATH.
    2.Use only one JDK version (or remove the other installed versions from the used environment variables).
    3. SAP Note [739043|https://websmp130.sap-ag.de/sap(bD1lbiZjPTAwMQ==)/bc/bsp/spn/sapnotes/index2.htm?numm=739043]

    will i be able to get my integrated BI/ERP client back with it ..
    or will i have to perform the setup of BI client again ?
    I guess It might be difficult to UNINSTALL - may cause some inconsistencies in the current system.
    Still - If you really Don't want BI now... Best option could be full restore and recovery.- If you have consistent backup.
    But if you want BI - then, since above problem is because of JDK , I think it could be resolved.

  • Java.util.zip.ZipException error in opening zip file

    Hello all,
    We are using Sun Java System web server 6.1 SP2. When I tried to deploy an application, I received this message: "Posted content length of --- exceeds limit of --- " the -dashes are the size of the file actually.
    I then added an init-param to the web.xml specifying the maximum size.
    After doing that, I tried to deploy the war file using administration interface, but received a network tcp/ip error. I then deployed it using command line wdeploy command. • Java.util.zip.ZipException error when building

    Good Day All,
    I am a newbie and this is my first JWS deployment. I have an app that I am writing in Netbeans 6.1 that I want to deploy via JWS. The app accesses five different JAR libraries and that is where my troubles started. I thought that I needed to figure a way to configure Netbeans so the libraries would be deployed with my app JAR so it would run correctly using JWS.
    I was trying to get things working and now my problem is that when I build I am getting the following error:
    init:
    deps-jar:
    compile:
    Copy libraries to C:\Java\DataMed\dist\lib.
    To run this application from the command line without Ant, try:
    java -jar "C:\Java\DataMed\dist\DataMed.jar"
    jnlp:
    jnlp-init-generate-master:
    C:\Java\DataMed\nbproject\jnlp-impl.xml:61:  The following error occurred while executing this line:
    C:Java\DataMed\nbproject\jnlp-impl.xml:386:  java.util.zip.ZipException:  error in opening zip file
    BUILD FAILED (total time: 0seconds)Scrolling to line 386 in the jnlp-impl.xml file it says:
    componentsprop="jnlp.components">I futzed with my options so much I can't seem to figure out how to get everything reset so I can get a clean build ! As a newbie to Netbeans I sometimes have difficulty figuring out where all the different things are hidden ... I **think** it all went bad when I was working on the Properties > Libraries > Compile > Compile-time Libraries but I can't remember.
    So I have two questions really:
    1) How can I resolve the ZipException error? I suspect it is one of the JAR libraries but how can I tell ?
    2) How do I get JWS to find my five libraries ? I now suspect that I am supposed to upload the five libraries to the webserver and then in my JNLP it will have links to the libraries in the <resources> part of the code. Is that correct ?
    Edited by: DBirdManAR on Aug 10, 2008 7:22 AM
    Rather than spend to much time figuring this out, I just used my revert modifications through my SVN to go back to a previous version that builds correctly.

    Hi,
    I have the same problem but I cannot solve it.
    Help much appreciated.

  • Use Of "#EC CI_EXECSQL in ABAP with EXEC SQL. Statement giving Syntax Error

    Dear Gurus,
    I have encountered an issue while trying to remove warning for using Native SQL statement using pseudo comment "#EC CI_EXECSQL
    The thing is like this -- i have used follwing native sql command in abap.
    EXEC SQL.
        CONNECT TO 'SURROUND_DB'
      ENDEXEC.
    Now when i am checking this code in code inspector it is showing a warning with information below
    CA CL_CI_TEST_CRITICAL_STATEMENTS0006
    Code Inspector
    Critical Statements
    Use of Native SQL
    Authorization checks cannot be appropriately run using EXEC SQL and should be carried out at program level.
    The message can be hidden using the pseudo-comment "#EC CI_EXECSQL
    Use of exceptin handling section for that warning showing me to use :
    The message can be hidden using pseudo
    comment      "#EC CI_EXECSQL
    Now when I am using "#EC CI_EXECSQL in the abap like below :
    EXEC SQL. "#EC CI_EXECSQL
        CONNECT TO 'SURROUND_DB'
      ENDEXEC.
    It is giving syntax error
    The text literal ""#EC CI_EXECSQL        " is longer than 255
    characters.Check whether it ends correctly.
    Please provide the guideline to resolve this issue.
    Thanks & regards
    Saifur Rahaman.

    Hi Saifur,
    You can remove the warning using the following syntax:
    EXEC "#EC CI_EXECSQL
      SQL.
        CONNECT TO 'SURROUND_DB'
      ENDEXEC.
    At least, it worked fine for me when using OPEN CURSOR, SELECT, FETCH and so on statements.
    The way to use the pseudo comment is not very intuitive, but at least for my examples worked fine.
    I hope this may help you.
    Best regards,
    Edgardo G. König

  • Using the "java" command in Java 1.4.1

    Hello..
    I don't seem to be able to run any application that should run with
    the "java" command in Java 1.4.1. Everytime I use "java" I get the "java.lang.NoClassDefinitionError"
    Even running this simple program doesn't work:(
    package chapter10;
    public class test {
    public static void main(String args[]) {
    System.out.println("Hello WORLD!!");
    }//end class
    when I run: "java chapter10/test"
    I get the following message:
    "Exception in thread 'main' java.lang.NoClassDefinitionError: chapter10/test"
    And the sam happens to any other class when I try to run it:(
    The "javac" command works fine:) but the "java" is giving me a hard time:(
    I would appreciate any suggestions or answers to this problem:) THANK U

    See if this explanation helps.
    Assume that your programs are part of a package named divelog, which is specified by the first line in each source file: package divelog;
    Also assume that this directory (C:\javaT\myWork\) is part of the CLASSPATH list of directories.
    Also assume that all the source files reside in this directory structure: C:\javaT\myWork\divelog\
    Then a statement to compile a source file Named Divelog.java is:
    C:\JavaT\myWork\>javac divelog\Divelog.java
    Explanation:
    Java starts looking for classes in the directory(s) listed in the classpath. In this case, one of the directories should be: C:\JavaT\myWork\ since it contains your divelog package.
    Compiling
    A class can either be part of a package (ie, no package statement at the top of the class.), or not.
    If the class is not part of a package: Its source file needs to be in one of the classpath directories. To compile you use the command: javac SomeFile.java, from within the classpath directory that contains the file.
    The class is part of a package (this case): The source file must be in a subdirectory structure that starts in one of the classpath directories. The subdirectory structure must match the package statement.
    So, you generate a directory structure C:\javaT\myWork\divelog\ which is the [classpath directory + the package subdirectory structure], and place Divelog.java in it.
    Then from the classpath directory (C:\JavaT\myWork\) use the command: javac divelog\Divelog.java
    This creates a file, Divelog.class in the divelog directory. (The following is where people tend to get lost.) The correct name now, as far as java is concerned, is the combination of package name and class name: divelog.Divelog (note I omit the .class)
    Running
    To run a class that's not part of a package: From within the classpath directory that contains the class. use the command: java SomeFile
    To run a class that is part of a package: From within the classpath directory (C:\JavaT\myWork\) use the command java divelog.Divelog (Note that this is analogous to the command for a class not in a package, you just use the fully qualified name)

    My question is what will be the sequece of all Bndle and MPs? SHoud i install Mps first and then bundle? or i go with Bundles first and then Mps?The MP5 has been released and if I'm not wrong the MP5 cumulative includes all the bundles up to bundle #7. So, why not go for that MP5 then apply bundle #8 ?
    Of course, you should check the prerequisites if any.

    You see the error message that says "wrong name. . ."?
    That means you used the wrong name for the class. You have it in a package, but you didn't use the package name. (You have to)
    This is a minimal explanation of packages.
    Assume that your programs are part of a package named myapp, which is specified by this first line in each source file:
    package myapp;
    Also assume that directory (C:\java\work\) is listed in the CLASSPATH list of directories.
    Also assume that all your source files reside in this directory structure: C:\java\work\myapp\
    Then a statement to compile your source file named aProgram.java is:
    C:\java\work\>javac myapp\aProgram.java
    And a statement to run the program is:
    java myapp.aProgram
    (This can be issued from any directory, as Java will search for the program, starting the search from the classpath directories.)
    Explanation:
    Compiling
    A class is in a package if there is a package statement at the top of the class.
    The source file needs to be in a subdirectory structure. The subdirectory structure must match the package statement. The top subdirectory must be in the classpath directory.
    So, you generate a directory structure C:\java\work\myapp\ which is the [classpath directory + the package subdirectory structure], and place aProgram.java in it.
    Then from the classpath directory (C:\java\work\) use the command: javac myapp\aProgram.java
    Running
    Compiling creates a file, aProgram.class in the myapp directory.
    (The following is where people tend to get lost.)
    The correct name now, as far as java is concerned, is the combination of package name and class name: myapp.aProgram (note I omit the .class) If you don't use this name, java will complain that it can't find the class.
    To run a class that's NOT part of a package, you use the command: java SomeFile (assuming that SomeFile.class is in a directory that's listed in the classpath)
    To run a class that IS part of a package, you use the command java myapp.aProgram (Note that this is analogous to the command for a class not in a package, you just use the fully qualified name)
