.java file extension

I am a student at UHD in Houston and I am trying to get started by compiling simple programs at the command prompt for a course I'm taking. I have just installed Java v 5.0 and everything seemed to go ok. However, when I save a simple program with the .java extension on it, Windows is still seeing it as a notepad file or a MSWord file. It shows it's icon as such.
When I go to compile the program at the command prompt, it tells me that it cannot read my file.
ie. error: cannot read: welcome1.java
Please help. I don't want to have to do all my programs in the school computer lab! LOL! I've tried the program on the school lab computer and it works fine. Did something go wrong with my installation? Please help.

The Notepad program is adding ".txt" to your file, so it ends up as myFirst.java.txt and is invalid.
If you can't see that ".txt", you are hiding file exttensions. Unhide them in Folder Options | View
Either use Save As or Doublequote the file name in Notepad to stop the addition.

  • Java files open in SQL Developer instead of JDeveloper

    JDEV 10.1.3
    Windows XP
When I double click a java file, it opens in SQL Developer instead of JDeveloper.
When I right click a java file, and select 'Open With'->jdeveloper, the java file always opens in SQL Developer instead of JDeveloper.
I've tried browsing and choosing all the different executables: jdevw.exe, jdev.exe, jdeveloper.exe. No luck on any of them.
    Any help here? Thanks!

Thanks, but that didn't work. I noticed that the "open" action for java file extension is, in fact, set to use the jdeveloper.exe (I also tried jdev.exe and jdevW.exe).
Note: even if I run the jdeveloper.exe on the command line, with a java file as the argument, the java file still opens in SQL Developer, if it is running. (Otherwise it uses JDeveloper)
It's as if JDeveloper and SQL Developer are somehow coupled in the opening of files.

  • What is going on here? .txt file extension

I apologize for asking this question, but at the risk of sounding completely fried, here goes...
I've saved my program in Notepad with the .java file extension, but when I run dir command in DOS, the file ends with the .txt file extension (i.e. HelloWorld.java.txt). Could someone give me a clue how to keep Notepad from automatically ending my program with this .txt file extension.? I've have not encountered this problem before.
    Thanks

    Thanks for your help.
I figured out that I didn't have the .java file extension defined in Windows. Because Notepad didn't recognize .java as a valid file type, it would automatically assign the .txt after my program files.
    To fix this...
    1.) Start Explorer
2.) Select the View...Options... file menu
3.) Click on the File Types tab
4.) Click on the New Type... button
5.) Enter the following in the Description of type: edit box: Java Files
6.) Enter the following in the Associated extension edit box: .java
    7.) Click OK
    8.) Click OK
    Thanks for your responses.

Editing other domains is a scenario fraught with peril, which is why it was
deprecated and removed from the console. It looks to me that the error
message sums up the problem, ther eis no applications directory in the
peoplesoft domain? Have you tried creating that directory from the file
    system?
    cheers

  • WEBUTIL - file extensions

I am using WEBUTIL to download files to my harddrive. We previously used Forms 6i, but is in the process of upgrading to 10g. I have replaced get_file_name with client_get_file_name.
The problem I am having is that when I use the save dialog to save, I have to put the filename . extension, it does not pick the extension up automatically. Previously with D2KWUTIL, I could put TEST and it would save it as TEST.bmp. Now I have to type in TEST.bmp otherwise it saves it as TEST.
Does anyone know how to get around this.

This is due to a slight difference of behaviour between the Java Files dialog and the Windows Native one. The best thing to do here would be to put in a tar with support so that they can log a bug on the difference in behaviour between GET_FILE_NAME and CLIENT_GET_FILE_NAME
In the short term though I guess you'd be best to check the returned filename to see if it has an extension and in code add the "best guess" extension automatically.

  • How to use standard Java file in custom module

    Hi All,
I want to use some CatalogItemImpl.java file in my custom DC but i was unable to find any entry in the standard component in businessobject.xml file as <businessObject name="XYZ" className="x"/>. Can anyone let me know how can we use the file file in my custom DC.
    Please provide your inputs......
    Regards,
    Rahul.

    Hi Rahul,
You will not find the "CatalogItemImpl" in the 'businessobject.xml'. The 'businessobject.xml' is there to define session based API of modules. Those API have properties and web channel builder values injected when the user start a web session.
For the "CatalogItem", you will have to use the Generic Factory concept. The Generic Factory is used to allocate instance given a configuration. If no configuration exists, the default implementation is used. By adding an entry in the Generic Factory you can choose to allocate your class instead of the default class.
Within the catalog module, the alias to use for classes extending "CatalogItemImpl" is "com.sap.wec.app.common.module.catalog.businessobject.ext.interf.CatalogItemExtInterf".
Please refer to the extension guide on how to manage the Generic Factory configuration file.
    Regards,
    Robin

  • Using java files with JSP

Ok, so im pretty new to this JSP lark and have a question.
I have Java Classes resting in .java files, i need to know how
do i link these files to my .jsp page so that the classes/variable etc.
declared with the java files are recognised when they are come
    across in the .jsp file.
I dont know if I have explained that properly.

Just include this statement at the top of your jsp:
    <%@page import="yourpackage.yourclass"%>
The .java files should of course be compiled into .class files prior to using (and you don't include the extension when importing).

  • How can I get controller .java files

I have craeted OA extension pages in which I have created Entiy object, module and view objects
in JDeveloper for 12.1.1 in windows and it working fine.
Now I want to extend one of the page of payable module (payable vision operation (USA))
and the page name is SuppSummaryPG.xml .
The problem is that how can I open or import SuppSummaryPG.xml in my jdeveloper ID
and all the related files which belongs to SuppSummaryPG.xml , example raleated VO, entity objects
    module file and controller servlet.
I move all the files from
apps server to jdeveloper directory , i did the same thing which is running
and working fine but the problem is with all of ViewObject and aplication module
I am not able to open these in Jdeveloper , because when I try to open these files
it gives me error that you dont have .java files , and it opens view objects and applicatino
moudel files in read only mode
the page is a standrad java moudle page
suppSummaryPG is a standard page and it is in
    payable moudle herachy is
    oracle/apps/pos/supplier/....suppSummaryPG
    what should I do

You can use decompiler to read java code. Oracle doesn't have any policy to prevent you from reading the class files.
However you cannot change the java code and replace the standard files.
    Source Code:
Oracle sells the just the software. So they are not obligated to provide source code.
The reason why they provided soruce code for forms and reports is that there is no robust personalzation and extention concepts available for them.
As per Oracle Support services, you dont need OAF code for extension and personalization.

  • Why java file name and class name are equal

could u explain why java file name and class name are equal in java

The relevant section of the JLS (?7.6):
When packages are stored in a file system (?7.2.1), the host system may choose to enforce the restriction that it is a compile-time error if a type is not found in a file under a name composed of the type name plus an extension (such as .java or .jav) if either of the following is true:
    * The type is referred to by code in other compilation units of the package in which the type is declared.
    * The type is declared public (and therefore is potentially accessible from code in other packages).
This restriction implies that there must be at most one such type per compilation unit. This restriction makes it easy for a compiler for the Java programming language or an implementation of the Java virtual machine to find a named class within a package; for example, the source code for a public type wet.sprocket.Toad would be found in a file Toad.java in the directory wet/sprocket, and the corresponding object code would be found in the file Toad.class in the same directory.
When packages are stored in a database (?7.2.2), the host system must not impose such restrictions. In practice, many programmers choose to put each class or interface type in its own compilation unit, whether or not it is public or is referred to by code in other compilation units.

  • Calling a created Java file from an AIR application

I've got a guy helping me out who is creating a Java file that outputs an F1 keypress to the operating system/desktop (which Flex alone can't do.
My problem is I need to know how I can call/activate this file from within an AIR application. I want my app to be ready for when he has created it for me but I've never used Flex to call an application so I would not know what classes need to be called or if any script would be required.
In the following simple code lets say if the Java file itself was called keypress.java (or whatever file extension a java file has) what code would need to be added in, including imported classes, to make the click of the button activate this java file?
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
    <mx:WindowedApplication xmlns:mx="http://www.adobe.com/2006/mxml" layout="absolute">
    <mx:Button id="KeypressButton" label="Button" horizontalCenter="0" verticalCenter="0" click=""/>
    </mx:WindowedApplication>

I think one solution is to use a Java proxy to call the Web services.
In the Java proxy you can have a method that accepts the user/pass and sets them correctly for the Web service.
Then you expose that Java proxy as a data control (right click, create data control) - and then create a page that invokes that method.
(For the basics of working with a POJO data control see: http://blogs.oracle.com/shay/2009/07/java_class_data_control_and_ad.html )

  • Changing the file extension by entering a "?" in JFileChooser

    Hi,
I've encountered a weird thing in JFileChooser. If you open the chooser, type at least one "?" in the field for the filename and then hit the approve button, the file extension will change to the text you entered as the filename.
To reproduce this problem, simply launch the JWSFileChooserDemo hit the "Open a File..."-button and as the filename enter something like "?deadbeef". Now click the open button and you will see that the file extension changes to "?deadbeef".
This is a really strange behaviour in my opinion.
I'm using Windows 7 with java 6u16, but the issue is the same on windows xp sp3. Perhaps on linux too. I'll give it a try as soon as I can.
Has anyone else encountered that problem?
    Best regards
Edited by: Wurstsalat on Mar 23, 2010 10:30 AM

To reproduce this problemThis is not a problem but rather a feature. I did not know of this till now. Thanks for informing.
As Kevin pointed out this is related to filtering of files.
?deadbeefThis will match all the files which start with any letter followed by "deadbeef". So, ? is a wildcard meaning any one character. Other wildcard can be *, which means any number of characters. Try this:
    *.txt
    a*.txt
    *.jp*g
??.txt I don't know other wildcards...
    Thanks!

  • Java application compiles java files in memory

how can I use java application program (that may call method runtime exec or some other techniques) to compile the other java files that were already loaded in memory. (I can not copy those target files to the hard disk with extension java, then compile for security reason).

And once they are compiled, where do you plan to put the compiled .class files? Same security problem, right? Perhaps you planned to load and use them "from memory" somehow? This would be a different security problem. Perhaps you need to rethink what you are doing.

  • Cannot find standart java files in DCs. I'm confused. Please help.

    Hello SDN!
I need to create extension which allow users attaching files to orders in order.jsp I found standart uploadform.jsp and UploadAction.java. I've create in DC crm/home/shr/ext my own action class based on UploadAction. There're some classes in my class which NWDS cannot resolve. For example, class LocaleUtil. I added import statement by hand but NWDS cannot resolve it anyway. I tried to find LocaleUtil.java via DTR but found nothing. So I don't know in which DC java file is. Now I found only LocaleUtil.class in sap.comcrmisalwcassembly.jar but I don't know how to use this jar. Also this jar contains other unresoldev classes.
Please help me to resolve these classes.

  • Can you create file extensions?

Does anyone know if u can create file extensions to read and write from using java? If so can u tell me how or reccomend something that might help teach me?
    Thanks
    Mike

yeah, i'm pretty sure you can use the java FileInput and printStream classes to make a new file, i mean as long as the file contains a text base, the extension really doesn't matter
