Java instead of ABAP

I have been asked by my manager to investigate the viability of using Java instad of ABAP.
Having never used Java in SAP I am really not sure how relevant it is because I always thought that for Java to be used with SAP you needed a SAP portal strategy. Otherwise all development within SAP i.e. SAP GUI custom transaction etc should be written in ABAP.
Our company does not have an SAP Portal strategy, but a Microsoft Sharepoint strategy, therefore how useful is SAP Java to us?

Hi,
Java is not very relevant for you.
Java is used mainly for front end purposes. Functionality is retrieved from the backend using (remote enabled) RFC's or webservices. This, you can do in Microsofts script languages as well. There is hardly any added value in using Java.
Even if you would use the Netweaver portal, you can still do without Java, since Web Dynpro (SAP's new front-end technology) is now also available in ABAP flavour.

First of all in my view SAP has not taken Java as Such instead of ABAP .
But you nowdays whole lot of java is coming in SAP by doors of SAP NetWeaver .
Now why they choosed java only <b> IN MY VIEW</b>
1)     Java is open source so SAP in tie up with SUN can develop SAP specific APIs and thats what happenings . In Net Weaver Developer studio (NDS of SAP like eclipe of Java ) we use packages ,classes , methods for SAP.
2)     In my view Java is rocking in Web world , Every single popular product ( like IBM MQ series , Oracle Apps ) is making use Java for making things web based .
So why not SAP .
3)     Now data ultimately data is getting saved in XML . And java is best to deal with that . In SAP also Idoc data is stored in XML and so same data can be used anywhere inspite of Platform , technology .
4)     Java has much established base of web Solution , Web services .They have got beautiful architecture so that Best Web sevices can be developed with EJB (Enter prise java beans ) , sturts and all .
5)     Now Its time for SAP to be Mobile Enabled .i.e. to Run SAP over PDA , Blackberry .Such solutions possible with SAP + Java combination .Java provides that framework to understand Mobile OS platform.
6)     Another thing now Its time of EAI (Enterprise Application Integration) . Integration is future . Multiple product integrated and used togetherly , exchanges data. Take case SAPs message goes to Sieble , people soft .For this Java + XML is best suied as both product understand it .
Utimately SAP is Using java to provide Best Web ERP solutions
But it does not mean ABAP is not there. With webDynpro ABAP you can do every thing that WD java does . In fact incase if you have existing ABAP recourses then use WD ABAP for developing web services in SAP. In uses OO ABAP as base programming language .

BI Java and BI ABAP -RSPLAN issue

Hi All
We are working with BI system ,using BI 7.0 Java and BI ABAP as separate systems on same host.
Already run the template intaller for BI Java and ABAP integration.
But facing some issue ,when going ot BI ABAP and RSPLAN and clicking the Start Mideller
it is opening a browser as http://host:8000/sap/public/myssocntl?sap-client-XXX
Since this is not correct and it should open BI Java portal instead of ABAP stack page.
Instead this should open a Url like this http://host:5XX00/webdynpro/dispatcher/sap.com/biplanworkbench1/Modeler?
I check on BI ABAP system under SAP Reference IMG -> SAP Customizing Implementation Guide-> SAP NetWeaver _> Business Intelligence-> BI Integrated Planning -> Settings for Starting the Planning Modeler.
There the default Url is BEx Portal Server and the url is
http://host:5XX00/webdynpro/dispatcher/sap.com/biplanworkbench1/Modeler
Can anybody let me know why this is going to ABAP server instead it should go to Java.

I have somewhat similar issue .. Hopu u can put some light ..
I have Bi 7.o with Add on java ,
In RSPLAN from ABAP system , modular page is not coming . if i click on start moduler button in RSPLAN ..portal page is coming up and i have to give logging details .

Afternoon Everyone,
I'm looking to answer a couple of questions around installation of BI Java on an ABAP only BI 7.0 system.
Firstly, I am looking for some guidelines around common problems we would expect to see if a BI java stack is implemented on a BI 7.0 system that is currently ABAP only. I would like to be able to gauge the impact of any such exercise, so we can translate that into extra project effort (both technically and functionally).
Secondly, I am looking for suggestions around the areas where the post Java install regression testing should be focused so we can ensure the existing functionality of the system is unaffected by the install & activation of the BI Java stack.
Id be really grateful for any input you would be able to provide around these questions!

Error while calling java program from ABAP

Hi Experts,
We are trying for RFC inbound scenario.
We followed the below blog

We are working with SAP JCO 3.0.2
We are getting the error : 'STFC_CONNECTION' could not be found in the server repository.
After I run the Java server program if I execute the RFC destination directly from SM 59 it is showing successful messages.
If I stop the java program then this RFC is failing. Based on this we concluded that RFC to Java connection is working fine.
But as mentioned in blog if we call the RFC Destination from ABAP program it is giving the below error,
'STFC_CONNECTION' could not be found in the server repository.
If we test the RFC destination using RFC_TRUSTED_CHECK standard FM we are getting the below error.
'RFCPING' could not be found in the server repository.
We create the RFC destination of Type : TCP/IP as exactly mention in the blog.
Please help us in resolving this issue.

Afterwards,hope we can call Java program from ABAP.
Below is the sample piece of code to establish RFC connection(link) between Java and SAP.

Abap+ java stack or Abap stack

Hi All,
How to know whether a system is ABAP+ JAVA stack or JAVA stack.
In our system EP6.0 which is JAVA stack holds JC00 which is a java instance direcory. In BW system we have SCS20 and Dvebg...00 directories is it ABAP+ JAVA stack or ABAP stack with J2ee engine services.
Please suggest me...

In the forder structuer usr\sap\<SID> if you have DVEBMGS<XX> then it's ABAP and if it's JC<XX>, then it's JAVA. Also if under DVEBMGS<XX> you have j2ee and SDM folder then it's a dual stack that is both ABAP and JAVA.
As for the URL if it's a dual stack then using the browser use the user j2ee_admin and the specified password, else if it is only java then use administrator user and the specified password.
If it's a dual stack you can also login using sapgui.
If in case its single stack AS_ABAP
THere will one be a single node i.e. no message server and enque server. The folder stur would be /usr./sap/<SID>/ and tou would find
DVEBMG SYS folders only.
IF in case its single stack Java server then
In mmc. you will find, 2 nodes one for message server, enque server and the other for the SDM, dispatcher and server0
the foder struct would be
/usr/sap/<SID?
JC><CIno> SCS<no>
Now in case if you have double stack i.e. AS-java and AS-ABAP you would will find these things in mmc
Message server and enque server
disp+work, message server and wp
the folder struct would be
/usr/sap/<SID>/
DVEBMG<no> SCS<no>

This depends on the version of your Netweaver Java AS. If you are running 7.0, you will have to use the Jco framework. The Jco framework is deprecated since 7.1 though. If you want to build a RFC server in 7.1 or higher, it is adviced that you set it up through JRA.

How to restart Java Engine in ABAP+JAVA dual stack installation ?

if i use stopsap r3 in this dual stack installation - it stops both ABAP & JAVA Web Application Servers.
I want to restart only JAVA Weba pplication server.
How do it ?

But theoritically they are 2 indpeendent installations like
AS ABAP
AS JAVA
..Do you aggree ?? really am not good on basics!!
During the installation also - if select AS ABAP & AS JAVA - it will become dual installation
and it does not show

Java mapping can be used when you have complex mapping structures.
We can do most of the times for our requirements through Graphical mapping.
When the structures are very complex to build you can go for SAX (Simple API for XML) or DOM (Document Object Model) parsers.
Message mapping internally generates DOM parser.

ABAP mappings run on ABAP Stack and are developed in the ABAP workbench of the Integration Server.
You normally do not need to use the ABAP mappings and is preferable for someone with ABAP programming background. I should say JAVA functions would suffice any complex scenarios.

You need to provide the name of your mapping program maually , you see it is an input box.
just provide the name of abap mapping program it will work.
and one more thing you cannot test abap mapping program in integration builer you need to test in abap only.
use tcode: SXI_MAPPING_TEST for testing abap mapping

User mapping when installing JAVA addin for ABAP

Hi,
I have installd SAP ABAP on a domain.
As the ABAP went fine and successfully gets installed.
When I am installing JAVA addon for ABAP it is throwing an error lke the users are not mapped.
So can any one guide me where actually I should map the SAP users in a domain.

Your question is very vague, please post the full error.
As this is a java add-in it should user ABAP as datasource so no user mapping should be required.
User mapping is used where java and backend system use different datasources and the naming conventions are different...
Theres not enough information here to give you an objective answer.

my ABAP program downloads one file to one folder. Then one Java program is running to Encrypt the file.
Now , they want to call the JAVA program in ABAP, so that they can encrypt the file before downloading.

Call Java Pgm from ABAP

Hi All,
I need to call a Java function from ABAP. Currently i work on client machine and i have a sample java program with me. What do i need to do in order to execute that Java program from ABAP se38 program?
1. Should i place that java program on server in order to execute?
2. How to maintain RFC Destination in SM59? what is meant by program id and gateway mentioned in in SM59 under create option.
Can some one help me with this regard?

Java Stack and ABAP Stack

i am now confused about these two stacks: Java Stack and ABAP Stack.
for IR objects, like DT, MT, SI, MM, SM, Action, Process Integration Scenario
for ID objects, like profile agreements, receiver determination, interface determination,

and i know Adapter Engine is run on JAVA Stack while Integration Engine is on ABAP Stack.

These objects are basically developed on the JAVA stack, when they are activated their runtime version is created on ABAP stack, which you can check in SXI_CACHE transaction.
