Java JRE Plugin on x86

I switched my system to 32 bit and for work I must have the ability to connect to some systems that use a Java console. I switched from Debian so normally I was able to use their (Debian's) package manager and install the followin:
- sun-java6-jre
- sun-java6-plugin
Both those allowed me to run my consoles required for work. Does anyone know where in the repos I can find this plugin? I prefer to stay away from OpenJDK as I hear its super flaky.
Thanks!

jre is in the community repo and includes also the plugin. It supports only 32 bit ATM (6u12 is expected to support 64 bit too).

  • Java jre plugin

I have been following the instructions to add Java JRE plugin to Firefox, but it does not seem to work. How can I check where Firefox is looking for the plugin? I have a couple of places with a Mozilla folder. Could I please get step by step directions on how to add the plugin? I am using a Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6 64-bit system.
Thank you in advance for any help provided

Note that you need a 32 bit Java version for a 32 bit Firefox release version and vice verse.
You can always create a plugins folder in the Firefox profile folder and place a symlink to a plugin in that folder or create a plugins folder in the .mozilla folder in the home directory (~/.mozilla/plugins/)

  • Install Java JRE 1.4.2 plugin on Phoenix on Windows

How can I install Java JRE 1.42 on Phoenix on Window 2000?
In the Java Plugin-in control panel, it only has Mozilla 1.1 and if I click it, it said I don't have mozilla 1.1 install.
    Thank for your help.

You have to add the following (dummy) key to your registry:
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\mozilla.org\Mozilla]
    "CurrentVersion"="1.0"

  • No sound in java applets in 32bit firefox with bin32-jre plugin.

I got sound in flash, but not in java applets. Is this a known issue? Any workarounds?

I should probably make a wiki article (or ad to the Java wiki article) about this, since it seems to come up quite often (especially on Ubuntu forums, actually). The only good solution I've found is to use Pulseaudio, and rename the java executable to java.bin, and make a script called java in the same folder, and put this in the script:
    #!/bin/sh
    padsp /opt/java/jre/bin/java.bin "$@"
By the way, the path to the java executable is /opt/java/jre/bin/ I've tried using the same method with plain ALSA by using aoss, and it works sorta, but it causes random crashes of Java, so that's a no go, have to use Pulse.

  • Java JRE not working on any PC

    Hello!
I have a customer, where none of the PC's og the servers can use Java JRE applications on the internet.
I have checked and double checked all settings in the Java Control Panel and Checked it is enabled for IE. I have tried Firefox and Opera too. I have uninstalled and installed several older versions, without any luck...
Now im running on the latest 1.6.0.02.
Im running behind a SBS 2003, without the ISA enabled. All PC's are using the router directly as default gateway (so not running through the SBS server). Im not using any Proxy, but i have tried that as well.
Java control Panel is set to use Default browser settings.
I have no idea what can cause this, and maybe im not filling in enough information for you, so please ask questions and ill answer as good as i can.

I have the feeling this has something to do with java not finding the java application it is trying to run? Does this make any sense? BTW. The Java Control Panel is showing in the taskbar next to the clock when i enter a Java site so its launching Java, but nothing happens.
Is there any simple java application i can use to test locally? From my C: drive or something.
I do not know much about Java functionality so i appreciate any help.
    Thanks
    Espen Zaal, Norway

    Hey, thanks for the answer.
I didnt have the JDK installed, just JRE so i installed JDK and could run the local applets.
The same online applet fails. I really do not know why this happens. There is nothing fancy about this customers network. They have 5 users, and a single Cisco Router for router/firewall for connecting/protecting against the internet.
There is also no outgoing firewall. Does anyone have experience with firewalls or routers blocking some part of the traffic? I just had a problem with the MTU at a nother customer.
Last time i investigated this i also concluded that there was no connection to the remote computer as you suggest, but i can not see what is blocking it.
The customer of mine is realying on Java to run for one of their applications so i can not "quit" like i did last time when the managing director couldnt play his online games hehe.
    Anyone else got some tips?
    Thanks

  • Getting the "Java path" defined in a Java JRE installation

    Hallo!
I have already tried to get some help with this issue but am still unable to get the JRE operational.
    What have I undertaken:
    1. Uninstalled all previous platform modules
    2. Removed all traces of previous plugins and registry entries
    3. Re-installed latest level of Java JRE
When I now try to use the cmd.exe and input "java -version" the error message I get is that Java is unknown.
When I try to install the application for which I needed JRE, the installation hangs up with "Java not fully installed".
Is there any documentation which fully describes the process in steps an untrained user can understand?
Better still is there a tool which can monitor or test the installation to indicate where I may have gone adrift?
    Any useful tips are welcome.
    Kind regards, forkinpm.

    hi,
Check the classpath and path settings of envoirnement variables. may be u havent changed them. The java-version command searches the java from there only.

  • How install my jar+native package for JRE plugin

I cannot figure out how to deploy a plugin consisting of a Java package that calls native code. The calling order is:
Applet -> installed classes in lib/ext/my.jar -> DLL in C:\\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32
I have gotten my plugin to work on Windows IE using the Microsoft JVM, and on Netscape using LiveConnect, and on Mac using MRJ. It also works with stand-alone Java applications. But I cannot get it to work with Applets when I am using the SUN JRE plugin for Java!
I can call the classes in the JAR file but they can't loadLibrary( the DLL ).
I put my JAR file in "C:\Program Files\JavaSoft\JRE\1.3.1_04\lib\ext".
I put my DLL in "C:\WINDOWS\system32" which is in the "java.library.path".
I was hoping that by installing the JAR file in the lib/ext folder that it would elevate its privelege and allow it to call loadLibrary().
I don't want to have to sign each Applet. My plugin is installed using a digital certificate. Once installed it should give regular Applets the ability to call my native code.
I am hoping to simply use a signed Java installer for the plugin that will copy my JAR file and DLL to the right places.
If you use IE or Netscape without the SUN plugin, you can try my plugins here:
    http://www.softsynth.com/jsyn/plugins/
    http://www.javasonics.com/plugins/
I'm tired of telling people to disable the SUN JRE plugin and enable the Microsoft JVM in order to use my plugins.....
    Any ideas?
    Thanks,
    Phil Burk

I found a solution to my own problem. The problem was that classes in a JAR file installed in the "java.ext.dirs" path could not call System.loadLibrary() when called from an Applet.
The solution was to explictly make use of the priveledged status of the extension classes as follows:
    Boolean result = (Boolean)
    AccessController.doPrivileged(new PrivilegedAction()
    public Object run()
    System.loadLibrary("mylib");
    return null;

  • Can't get Firefox to "downgrade" Java JRE version

I recently allowed the Java updater to update my Java JRE from 1.6.x to 1.7.x. However I have a critical web site that will not run the applet unless it sees a 1.6x "only" JRE. (yes, it is a dumb site) . Anyway, I removed the 1.7 version, and re-installed 1.6 but Firefox still shows the 1.7 version in my add-ons and I can't remove the references or get them to update to 1.6x.
I still can't get the web site to launch the applet that I need from FF because it thinks I am not running 1.6x. I am NOT having this problem using IE8.. it seems to have downgraded just fine.

You can see the installed plugins that are enabled on the about:plugins page.
    * http://kb.mozillazine.org/about%3Aplugins
You can set the plugin.expose_full_path pref to true on the about:config page to see the full path of plugins on the about:plugins page.<br />
    *http://kb.mozillazine.org/about:config
It is best not to leave that pref set to true as it exposes that full path to web servers, so reset that pref to false after you are done with the about:plugins page.

  • I do not see the word Java under Plugins. I need to do an online course and i need Java

I looked under tools on add-ons and clicked on plugins. It said to look for Java and enable it, but I saw no Java there, and I went to the java.com website and downloaded it. Where is it?

You can see the installed plugins on the Tools > Add-ons > Plugins (about:addons) page.
Your More system details list doesn't show the <u>[[Using the Java plugin with Firefox|Java]]</u> plugin, so you need to install Java if you do not see a disabled Java plugin.

  • What exactly does the installers of JMF, Java MP3 Plugin do?

    Hi, All
I am trying to make an intaller for our own application, which requires the JMF, and Java MP3 Plugin. Sometimes, there could be some problems
with the Java MP3 Plugin registration. So I am wondering if the installer of MP3 plugin installer simply copy the mp3plugin.jar to jre/lib/ext.
Then we can do so by our own installer in either of the two following ways:
1 copy mp3plugin.jar to the jre/lib/ext by ourselves
2 simply treat mp3plugin.jar as an ordinary jar file, and indicate it in the classpath when execuing the application.
Before doing so, I shall know what exactly the installer of mp3 plugin does so that either of the above two ways does not miss anything. So can anybody give me some suggestions?
    Thanks!

Yes, I am wondering the same thing.  I have some songs that meet all the other cryteria but still will not upload.  I am getting the mysterious catch all of "Songs encoded as AAC or MP3 that do not meet certain quality criteria will not be matched or uploaded to iCloud." is kicking in but how is it fixed?
    Anybody have any idea?

  • Anyway to uninstall java jre using the windows xp command line

    Hi,
Is there anyway I can uninstall Java JRE 1.6_6 by using the xp cmd.
I need to do this for my team project where ive made a custom installer that installs a JRE and my java application. I then also need to make an uninstaller which removes my application (ive done that), and also removes the JRE. I know you can do this from the control panel but I need to uninstall both at the same time in one simple interface.
Im using batch scripts to do this, as the installer package im using is useless.
    Thanks
    Shazan

You could try uninstalling via the silent approach. The original jre install bundle is necessary.
See http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4.2/docs/guide/plugin/developer_guide/silent.html (this is 1.4.2 specific, but it should work for 6 also)
    <jre>.exe /s /v "/qn [REBOOT=Suppress]" /x
Looks like the command you'll need.
How much has your custom installer modified the java installer ? I don't think you're allowed modify the jre bundle in any way.

  • Installing jre plugins.....

OK, Im running RH 7.2 and i already ran the rpm and it went fine. Im trying to get the plugins to work but i cant seem to get it. I ran the command "export NPX_PLUGIN_PATH=/usr/java/jre-1.3.1_02/plugins/i386/ns4" and that seemed to go well. Now when i got to run a program (for instance, LimeWIre) it tells me that i have no VM installed.
Is this because i messed up my "export..." command? Also im using mozilla...since mozilla and netscape are closely related i thought maybe to follow the netscape instructions as well...that did no good. What am I missing?
    Thx for any help

Is this because i messed up my "export..." command?
Also im using mozilla...since mozilla and netscape
are closely related i thought maybe to follow the
    netscape instructions as well...that did no good.ln -s /usr/java/jre-1.3.1_02/plugins/i386/ns600/libjavaplugin_oji.so <mozilla-path>/plugins
Then run mozilla. It should detect the plugin, Java, etc, and load it. (As long as you've got the jre set up correctly, it'll recognize it and load it.)
Getting the plugin to work in netscape 4 is a game of chance. :/

  • Time Warner Cable Chat Live Problem- no JRE Plugin

When I go to the TWC support site and try their Chat Live, I get an error dialog box in the Safari window. It says I need the JRE Plugin, which is N/A to the iPad's Safari. They are blaming Apple's Java on mobile Safari. Does anyone know what the story is? Is there a shortcoming in iOS Safari, or can the problem be with the design of their website?
    Here's what they sent me:
Thank you for contacting Time Warner Cable, Road Runner email Support.
I understand that you are unable to access RR Chat support tool using your iPad2 device with updated OS and Safari browser.
I apologize for the inconvenience caused.
I will be glad to assist you with this.
As per the error message you have mentioned, it seems that the issue is with Java application error on the iPad device.
In this regard, please update the Java application installed on your iPad device and try to contact our Chat support again.
If you are still unable to access the Chat support, I request you please contact Apple support for further assistance, as they will be able to resolve the issue for you.
Here is the Apple support contact information for reference: (800) 275-2273.

If you have any other queries, you can also contact our Chat or Voice support for Live assistance.
Contacting us through chat or voice support will enable an agent to thoroughly look into your issue and offer necessary steps to resolve the issue.

I sent this reply to the TWC support email (above):
The answer you sent me is not correct. You asked me to update the Java application on my iPad.  iPads and iPhones do not use Java.
Since you have a LOT, repeat a LOT of customers that use Apple's devices, I'm making a suggestion, that you think seriously about upgrading your support site Chat Live function so that it supports iOS devices.
    Or
Ad a Chat Live interface to your myTWC app for the iPad and iPhone.
You need to get really serious about making all of your sites iOS friendly as people are migrating from computers to tablets, and the iPad is the only game in town-at least for now.

  • Can you get Netscape launch with different default JRE Plugin versions?

Does anyone know how to do this?
    OS: WinNT4
    Browser: Netscape 6
    Situation:
We want to standardize on JRE 1.4.1 but some of our clients web applications use JRE 1.3.1 and they won't run with the newer VM. So I need to launch Netscape with default plugin as 1.3.1 for some apps and default plugin as 1.4.1 for others.
Ideally, I would like to run a client logon script that makes a registry change to set the default JRE plugin to either 1.3.1 or 1.4.1 BEFORE Netscape launches and goes to our client URL.
Does anyone know which reg keys does this? Is there a better way?
    Thanks.

You can specify the JRE through the MIME type:
    http://devedge.netscape.com/viewsource/2002/markup-and-plugins/
"You can invoke the Java plugin for Netscape 7 and other Mozilla-based browsers by using the appropriate Java MIME type. Here is an example:
    <object type="application/x-java-applet;jpi-version=1.4.1_01"
    width="460" height="160">
The above code mentions a version specific MIME type, and if the Mozilla-based browser such as Netscape 7 doesn't have JRE 1.4.1_01 installed, the alternate text is displayed."
Maybe that's something that you can use here.
