Java programs runs in eclipse but no of errors on command line

I have a strange problem. I made program that runs fine in eclipse IDE but when I try to compile it using 'javac', it raises a lot of errors. All of same kind with location different.
The error is ' cannot find symbol '. Symbol: class AllegroGraph.... ' cannot find symbol '. Symbol: variable AGPaths....
' cannot find symbol '. Symbol: class valueSetIterator...................
How can I remove this error as this error is definitely not letting me to specify a bat file to run this program as the way I am advised in my other thread about bat file.

Are you using 3rd party API for your project? It looks like you are using APIs from [this site|http://www.franz.com/agraph/allegrograph/].
To compile from the command prompt, you have to specify the 3rd party API (jar files) as classpath. Like so...
javac -cp <3rd party>.jar *.java

  • Program runs in eclipse but in command line I need java -cp .

I thought I understood what the classpath variable was all about. I thought it was the directory where the java standard classes were, namely the bin directory of your Java directory. However I've been using Eclipse for the first time and the programs compile and run fine in Eclipse, but in my command line I need to do java -cp . [compiled class] to make it run. Can somebody explain why? Doesn't java normally look in the current directory for the executing classes?
Also I just checked out my CLASSPATH variable and I see C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.5.0_04\lib\ext\QTJava.zip which doesn't seem right to me. Can somebody explain what this is all about? I thought when you installed the Java SDK (JDK) it sets your classpath and everything.

I thought I understood what the classpath variable
was all about. I thought it was the directory where
the java standard classes were, namely the bin
directory of your Java directory. There is nothing correct about this statement. The classpath defines where your classes, packages and JARs are. /bin should be in PATH, and the J2SE standard classes don't need to be referenced in any variable.
    However I've been
using Eclipse for the first time and the programs
compile and run fine in Eclipse, but in my command
line I need to do java -cp . [compiled class] to make
it run. Can somebody explain why?Because the Eclipse project defines a classpath of its own (see Proprties-> Build Path) and doesn't give a damn about any system variable.
    Doesn't java
normally look in the current directory for the
executing classes? No. It looks in the classpath, nowhere else.
Also I just checked out my CLASSPATH variable and I

this is all about? Another superfluous setting. Libs in /lib/ext are automatically in the classpath.
I thought when you installed the
Java SDK (JDK) it sets your classpath and everything. How would it know where your classes are?

I might be doing some programming for my company soon
which will require a program to monitor a database
and whenever there is a change to certain fields, it
must copy certain fields into another database. When I see "whenever thiere is a change to certain fields" I tend to think "triggers" - but maybe this won't work for you 'cause of the "another database" part. And the fact that triggers are inherently evil.

Is it possible to run a Java program as a windows
service? And if so then how would you go about it? I'd hit Google - there're a couple ways to do this.
    [snip]
Also,...if I were to use one of those programs which
can make an .exe of a Java program, then do you still
require the JRE to be on the machine? It depends on how you did the conversion. If you compile to native then no, if you just wrap up a JRE then yes.
    Why I ask is
that I occasionally get asked to do small development
projects for my company, but we are a microsoft
partner and therefore do all the development in C#
and the like. So I would like to just implement as
many things in Java as I can, just to show everyone
that Java can do exactly what C# can do. But its
difficult to convince people of this since I always
require the JRE and they dont. Of course, they require the .NET framework and you don't. And last I looked that thing was around 23 Meg.

You have less chance to identify which programm that VM instance is running right now.
But you could (as we do) keep track of your programs if you save the process-id when you start the program.
We need this to shut down running java batch programs but you could find out the used system resources with this way as well...

  • How to execute unix command from the Java program running on Windows

    Hello,
    I need to
    1. Execute a unix shell script from a Java program running on the Windows.
    2. I also need to capture the output of this shell script in my program.
Please suggest me how to achieve this.
    Thanks in Advance.

    Hi...
    Something is missing here
If you want to execute a shell script in windows that not posible unless you find or develop a unix shell script parser for windows.
But if you are trying the execute a unix shell script on a remote unix computer from your java program running on a windows platform you can do that by logging on to the UNIX terminal which is running on port 23 I think.
You can test this using telnet tool on windows
    just type on command prompt
telnet <ip of the unix pc> <port number this case 23>
you should get the unix terminal. If that works you can do the same through java or you can directly conect to port 23 of that pc using sockets that way your program will be platform independant

  • Execute Unix command from Java program running on windows

    Hello,
I need to write a java program that fetches file count in a particular unix machine directory. But java program will be running on windows machine.
The program should execute unix list command and fetch the output of that command.
Can anyone help me on this?
    Thanks.

    Hi there,
I had a similiar problem, though years ago. It was to have a java program execute any other. Lately, I've had to have a java program running on a unix machine execute a shell script. Entirely two different scenarios. I'm not sure what you will need for your app, but look into this:
Java Native Interface for executing C/C++ code.
C/C++ Code for launching the program you need to run.
    java.lang.Runtime(?).exec(....)
With a combination of that stuff, you can make a launcher for any os that has Java running on it, and with Runtime, you can exec() pretty near any sort of unix shell or app command you'd like.
    Good luck.

  • Is there any way to check another Java program running status?

HI. I want to write a Java program on hand-set but my program seems needs lots of resources and if there is another Java program running on the same hand-set simultaneously, my program will slow down. So, I want to check if there is another Java program is running on the hand-set, my program will show a message to user reminding user to close another program first.
Is there any way to do so?

On most recent devices, the application is not terminated but paused by using phone functions, and can be reactivated from the aplication management software. The javax.microedition.midlet package documentation is quite specific, if a tad obscure, about the MIDlet lifecycle and the role of the MIDelt methods vis-a-vis the AMS.
    {color:#0000ff}http://java.sun.com/javame/reference/apis/jsr037/javax/microedition/midlet/package-summary.html{color}
Parenthetically, I've never been able to figure out how resumeApp should be used, nor have I seen this method invoked in any of the samples that come with the WTK, but I haven't gone through all of them.
I believe the still-in-progress MIDP3 will make it possible to have MIDlets that share the screen with native apps and which can be minimized and restored.

  • My java program runs fine even if i don't specify access specifier of class

    Hi,
My java program runs fine even if i don't specify access specifier of class as public .
Then why do they say that atleast one class should be specified as public.
    please help.

public access specifier is the default access
    specifier
so if you dont give the access specifier before the
class name it is not wrong.I think that you are wrong. The default specifier is package or "package-private".

    Hi,
Have you try to un-select the Ignore other applications that use Dynamic Data Exchange (DDE) setting?
Click the Microsoft Office Button, and then click Excel Options.
Click Advanced, and then click to clear the Ignore other applications that use Dynamic Data Exchange (DDE)
check box in the General area.
    Click OK.
If the problem cannot resolve, the Run as administrator may selected.
Go to Office default install location: C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office12.
    Right-click EXCEL.EXE > Properties >
    Compatibility tab.
Under Privilege Level, uncheck Run this program as an administrator
    check box.
    Best regards.

    Hi,
Can we get a status update for this? This seems to have broken Mac Projector files when published from a PC. Our old CD-ROM presentations no longer work. They throw the same error.
Is there a bug ticket that we can follow? Any sort of timeline? I need to give an answer to my client on when this will be fixed. Telling them to disable Gatekeeper isn't really a great solution.

  • Running Java program created with Eclipse plugin fails to open report

I created a CR 2008 report and using the Eclipse plug-in I created a Java program to drive data through the report and export the resulting reports as pdf files.

  • Java program run correctly under 1.3 and 1.2.2 but fail in 1.4

It seems that line 55 and line 454 infinitely call each other and finally cause stack overflow. I have tried to compile the program under 1.4, but the error still exists. Is it a bug in 1.4? Any solutions to this problem?

I haven't looked at the sample code, however maybe look at this:
"As of Java 2 SDK 1.4.1, the compiler detects all cases of mutually recursive constructors. Previously, the compiler only detected a self-recursive constructor."

Like most IDEs JBuilder too can be configured to not only use several compilers (in fact it can use a lot more than can Eclipse, basically any compiler you want it too rather than just a few built-in ones) and can also be set to accept different language compliance settings for each of them.
So even if your teacher has a 1.5 compiler installed it doesn't mean JBuilder will use it (it has to be told to use it) nor that his project settings will use 1.5 language compliance.
If he has a version older than JB 2005 he won't get syntax highlighting and things like that for 1.5 whatever he does, and won't get 1.5 level language features either (as those versions predate 1.5). He can plug in the 1.5 compiler but the IDE will reject the new language features because it simply doesn't recognise them.
Pre 3.1 Eclipse versions do the same.

First of all, leave the lib and jre/lib directories of the JRE alone. Never ever touch them again. Remove any jars you have put there yourself, or better yet completely remove and reinstall the JRE to make sure you put it back in a correct state.
After you do that, learn how to properly work with the classpath in both the IDE and the command line.
Netbeans: you define the classpath by adding jars to the project (right click on the libraries node in the project tree to get the appropriate options).
Command line: this depends on if you run a single class, or you invoke an executable jar.
Single class: you use the -cp command line switch to define the classpath
Executable jar: the jar itself defines the classpath in its META-INF/manifest.mf file. The -cp command line switch is ignored.
Since you use Netbeans, you'll get an executable jar so make sure to learn how such a jar is structured.

class loader can't find class definition during runtime but it could find it during compilation. So the problem is with your classpath. Does your classpath point to file with class Integration?
