Java Project Versioning

Hi
I am building an internal lib that is made up of 4 packages.
I want to give each internal release a version number, but don't know how.
I using Netbeans IDE to develop my project

Hi...
I belive the number of the version is made by yourself (you give the number when you make it avaliable to others).
I belive it should be X.Y.Z where
Z- small changes that will not affect any program that uses lower versions (bug corrections)
Y-Medium changes, some new features (small)
X-Version number, for big changes, new features, new classes, structural changes that may or may not affect compatibility...
X number starts with 0 - for test version, unstable, debug. Then, when you get a stable version, you put version 1.Y.Z
I belive sourceforge posters could give you a hand on that...
Programatically, the only "version number" you have is the number of your commit in CVS/SVN. The "real" version number is given by hand...
Hope I could help

  • [ot] A UML tool for a new Java project

    I am working on the new Java project and need a UML tool to get it start. I am wondering whether anyone one can recommend such tool or not. It can be either stand alone or as an Eclipse plug-in. It shall be able to handle at least 50 classes.
    Thanks.

    Is it any good? I haven't tried it but we're
    evaluating UML tools here and it's on my list to play
    with.
    PS.If you mean SDE....
    I have only used the personal edition at home, and the other versions have more functionality available
    My impressions, FWIW, are
    - easier to use than rational rose (I find this one which I have to use at work to be a pain), although, paradoxically enough, they are not that dissimilar in appearance
    - I was able to create some reasonably complex models without any problems
    - easy to install and start using - no great learning curve
    - I tried importing a model I had exported from rose and that did not work very well at all.
    - this applies to version 2.2

  • Best Practices for Defining NDS Java Projects...

    We are doing a Proof of Concept on using NDS to develop non-SAP Java applications.  We are attempting to determine if we can replace our current Java development tools with NDS/WAS.
    We are struggling with SAP's terminology and "plumbing" for setting up/defining Java projects.  For example, what is and when do you define Tracks, Software Components, Development Components, etc.  All of these terms are totally foreign to us and do not relate to our current Java environment (at least not that we can see).  We are also struggling with how the DTR and activities tie in to those components.
    If any one has defined best practices for setting up Java projects or has struggled with and overcome these same issues, please provide us with some guidance.  This is a very frustrating and time-consuming issue for us.
    Thank you!!

    Hi Peggy,
    In Component Model we divide software projects into small components.Components can use other components in well defined manner.
    A development object is a part of a component that can be changed or developed in some way; it provides the component with a certain part of its functionality. A development object may be a Java class, a Web Dynpro view, a table definition, a JSP page, and so on. Development objects are always stored as “sources” in a repository.
    A development component can be defined as a frame shared by a number of objects, which are part of the software.
    Software components combine components (DCs) to larger units for delivery and deployment.
    A track comprises configurations and runtime systems required for developing software component versions.It ensures stable states of deliverables used by subsequent tracks.
    The Design Time Repository is for versioning source code management. Distributed development of software in teams. Transport and replication of sources.
    You can also find lot of support in SDN for the above concepts with tutorials.

  • Java source version compare

    How do you view the code differences for .java files versioned in a web dynpro project?   They are not in the src fiolder for either active or inactive DC.  I do see they are under the gen_wdp folder but the version tools are disabled there.
    This I am assuming as a very common practice but I see nothing in the SAP help. I am using release SP18 of dev studio.

    Hi Mike,
    The files like TimeEntryView.wdcontroller also have java code in them. This is used while generation. You can use same tool to check differences here for the code also.
    You can do one more thing. [ This is a bit tedious:) ]
    Take the generated java file in gen_wdp folder and use tools like "WinMerge" to check the difference. [Not a gr8 idea but works ]

  • Open Forte for java project in Sun java studio enterprise

    Hi Everyone, I am new to Java development. I have a java application developed in Forte for java 4 and I need to open and compile it in Sun java studio enterprise. Could anybody tell me how to do that? Thank you very much.

    The recent versions of the IDE (starting with NetBeans 4.1 and JSE 8) are based on a more-robust project system that is ant based. Projects from Forte for Java 4, unfortunately, cannot be directly opened in JSE8, NB4.1 and later.
    If you do have access to the original source code, pl. try the following in the latest version of JSE or NetBeans:
    - Create a fresh project in jse using File | New Project. (For a java standalone app, you would choose General | Java Application from the dialog).
    - Add the existing files to the empty project. You can do so by right-clicking on the project, selecting properties and adding the existing source directories under 'Source Packages' in 'Sources' category.
    Or from the new project dialog, you could select 'General | Java Project with existing sources' option.

  • How to run a Java project in NWDS...

    First of all , i dont know if i am writing in the right forum for this question.
    I am new in NWDS.

  • How to add Java projects to FlexBuilder2?

    In a recent
    Breezinar about
    Flex Data Services James Ward demonstrated how to to debug a
    Flex2/Java application by simultaneously setting breakpoints in
    both the ActionScript client and in the Java server from within the
    same instance of Flex Builder 2. The out-of-the-box FlexBuilder2
    doesn't have a Java project type. Anyone know how to add Java
    support to FlexBuilder2 to support the Java+ActionScript
    development environment demonstrated by James in his Breezinar
    ?

    When installing Flex Builder, select the option to install
    the Eclipse plugin
    version instead of the standalone version. The standalone
    version can only
    work with Flex projects, but the Eclipse plugin version
    *adds* Flex to
    whatever your existing Eclipse installation has (typically
    Java).

  • Download SAP NetWeaver 2004 Java Trial Version for Windows

    Hi there,
    I'm currently working on a project where I need to develop with EP 6.0. For testing my development I wanted to download the SAP NetWeaver 2004 Java Trial Version from
    [https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/sdn/go/portal/prtroot/docs/library/uuid/d058ab2c-e206-2a10-47b7-c05df8a3ae76]
    But the files doesn't seem to exist on the server anymore. Has anyone an idea where to find these download files?
    Thanks,
    David.

    Hi Parsman,
    You only need SAPGui to logon to ABAP instance...
    If you installed a Java Instance.. you need to logon using your browser... URL is in the manual.
    For the J2EE engine page,
    http://<hostname_with_fqdn>:500<instance_number>
    If there a portal installed,
    http://<hostname_with_fqdn>:500<instance_number>/irj/portal
    All this info is contained in the installation guide.

  • Ggraphic chart Java project planning ?

    Please, does anyone know of a link to the conventional chart symbols for project planning in Java Programming ? Or a link to any assistance for graphic chart Java project planning.

    Try Poseidon UML, its a tool to make some UML / flowchart diagrams, and you can use it for free (the trial version, with small limitations but you can still work with it).

  • Java projects in Flash Builder

    Hi all,
    I previously used Flex Builder 3 on Vista x64.   Inside Flex Builder 3, I had both flex projects and java projects.  I needed both because I use BlazeDS and kept the java code in a separate project.  I would only like 1 development environment.
    I recently upgraded to Windows 7 x64 and went ahead and upgraded my Flex Builder 3 to Flash Builder 4.
    It was a simple measure to import my flex projects into Flash Builder 4.
    When I tried to import the Flex 3 java projects into Flash Builder 4, Flash Builder responded with:
      " The folder does not contain a valid Flash Builder Project."
    Short of installing Eclipse, a 32bit version of java, and using the Flash Builder Plugin, is there a way to get my java projects to import and compile in Flash Builder 4 while running on Windows 7 x64?
    Thanks in advance for any thoughts,
    - Steve
    P.S.  I may have had to import something special to get it to work in Flex Builder 3, I just can't remember.

    If you're trying to compile Java projects in FB4, you'll need to add eclipse's Java Development Tools (JDT).
    You can add the JDT this way:
    - quit FB4, and launch with "Run as Administrator" from the context (right-click) menu
    - from the Help menu choose "Install New Software..."
    - in the resulting dialog click "Add", and enter a name of your choosing such as "Galileo Updates" in the Name field
    - enter this URL into the Location field:
    http://download.eclipse.org/releases/galileo/
    - hit OK and then browse the available Galileo Updates
    - select Programming Languages > Eclipse Java Development Tools
    - continue on with the usual Update workflow, and after finishing it will prompt you to relaunch automatically.
    Allow FB4 to relaunch, and you should now have the JDT available for compiling Java projects.

  • My first real life java project is going horribly wrong plz help

    my family has a marina and i said i can make a program to help my dad keep track of the boats and rentals etc. but the problem im having trouble im relatively new i have only been doing java for 3 weeks and its hard. My dad gave me an outline for the project. this is what i have so far.
    The File menu contains two items in addition to the Exit item from the JCreator template: Open and Save. The main tab will have other tabs added later.
    Step 2: Design and implement the Boat class:
    The Boat class describes a boat owned by the marina. Each boat has a name, a daily rental price and is moored in a slip at the marina. The marina need to keep track of each boat's status: 0 - available, 1 - reserved and 2 - rented. Slips are numbered from 1 to 6 right now, but the owners are thinking of adding more slips as their business grows. In designing this class, consider how the class will be used within the project. Try to think of all possible instance variables and methods your class might need.
    Review Topics:
    Creating classes: Instance variable, Get and Set Methods
    Menus
    Tabbed Panes
    Step 3: Design and implement the Marina class
    The marina class is used to hold all the Boat objects. Since there is no imaginable limit to the number of boats the marina might one day own, the Marina class should use an ArrayList object to hold all the Boat objects. Also implement the Open and Save menu items.
    Review Topics:
    The ArrayList class
    Object Files ... writing, reading, the Serializable interface
    Using the FileDialog class.
    Step 4: Design and implement the Customer and CustomerList classes.
    Each Customer is a Person who wants to rent a Boat. For identification purposes, each Customer is assigned a Customer number. This String value is a 6-digit number generated sequentially. That is, the first customer will be 000001, the second 000002, and so on. The Customer class must keep track of the Customer's Boat choices (past and present).
    The CustomerList class is a dynamic list of Customer objects. Customers come and go, so this class must have functionality that allows for the addition of new customers, deletion of customers and the editing of customer information, including changing their Boat rental options. Create methods within the CustomerList class that will read data from and write data to a data file.
    Add a new tab to the GUI allowing the user to enter a customer's first and last names, add these Customer objects to the CustomerList and save the Customer information on data files.
    i would prefer if you keep the code as simple as possible cause im new and i wont understand if you get all fancy.
    http://www.java-forums.org/new-java/8917-having-trouble-java-project.html you can find the attachment of the project files there.

The reason is that it's an enormous difference between a toy program and a professional product. You could get a version up and running in less than a week but it will be nowhere near what your dad envisioned. To meet even moderate expectations you'll have to put in at least 3-6 months fulltime. This is why bespoke software is so expensive. And even so there's a 90% chance the program will be dropped because your dad feels the manual system worked better. The only thing a project like this is likely to accomplish is to drive a wedge between you and your dad.
    I know you're bullshitting to get schoolwork help but still I want to warn others for this kind of projects. They're doomed.

    can anyone help?Search the bugs database to see if someone else already reported this; if not create a new bug entry. Whatever mistake you could make, you should not be getting a NullPointerException as a result so this is at the very least a bug in the error handling of webstart.
    But just some observations to try and see if you can make a difference (which is added input for your bug report). If I check JNLP examples, I see that the url specified is usually without a protocol, so it could be like this:
    <jar href="/resources/applet/formeditor.jar" />The JNLP should be on the host that you service the jar from, so Webstart can fill in the host information for itself.
    Also you provide a main-class; if the jar manifest specifies a main-class (and it should) you don't need to specify it in your JNLP file.

  • How to use BO SDK in local java project?

    Hi,
    I am trying to connect BO system using below mentioned code
    public void main(String args[]) throws SDKException {
         try
              System.out.println("main");
              /ISessionMgr sessionMgr = CrystalEnterprise.getSessionMgr();/
              IEnterpriseSession boEnterpriseSession = CrystalEnterprise.getSessionMgr().logon( "Administrator","","BOSAP","secEnterprise");
              IInfoStore boInfoStore =(IInfoStore) boEnterpriseSession.getService("InfoStore");
              ChangePWD(boEnterpriseSession, boInfoStore);
         }catch(Exception e)
              System.out.println("Exceptions in main");
              System.out.println(e);
    This code was taken from below mentioned thread:
    Force all users to change their Enterprise passwords with a batch operation
    I have created standalone java project and running as JAVA application in eclipce. I am getting class def not found error for these BO SDK jar files. I have added
    cecore.jar
    celib.jar and
    cesession.jar files as external lib to java project
    I am using following imports
    import com.crystaldecisions.sdk.framework.CrystalEnterprise;
    import com.crystaldecisions.sdk.framework.IEnterpriseSession;
    import com.crystaldecisions.sdk.exception.SDKException;
    import com.crystaldecisions.sdk.occa.infostore.*;
    import com.crystaldecisions.sdk.occa.infostore.IInfoObjects;
    import com.crystaldecisions.sdk.occa.infostore.IInfoStore;
    import com.crystaldecisions.sdk.plugin.desktop.user.IUser;
    Does any one know solution to fix class def not found error?
    Thanks
    Nitesh Shelar

    I did some mistake few dependent jars were missing in project build path. After adding those missing BO jar files. Now its giving server connection error. Which I am trying to resolve.
    Thanks for your help.
