Java's Defualt Literal Types (Whole number literals defaults to int?)

Hello guys, its my first Post here, just want to ask
is java whole number literals defaults to int?
check these codes
---code 1:---
Java Code:
1
byte b = 10;
//code 1 works
---code 2:---
void someMethod(byte a,byte b)
System.out.println(a+b);
then I use it
someMethod(10,5);
//code 2 doesn't work, it yields an error
Exception in thread "main" java.lang.Error: Unresolved compilation problem:
The method sum(byte, byte) in the type Test is not applicable for the arguments (int, int)
now these are my questions
1. does java whole number literals defaults to int? (I think so, basing on the code)
2. if question no. 1 is true, then why code 1 worked? it shouldn't right, coz its a downward cast (from int to byte).
3. what really happens under the hood?
by the way, the jdk version I used is 1.7.0
Thank you guys in advance

byte b = 10;
//code 1 worksThe literal expression *10* is an int. But it's a compile-time constant that fits into a byte, so the assignment is okay without a cast.
---code 2:---
void someMethod(byte a,byte b)
System.out.println(a+b);
then I use it
someMethod(10,5);
//code 2 doesn't work, it yields an errorBecause 10 and 5 are ints, not bytes, and there's no method that can take int as args. The automatic narrowing conversion that takes place for assignment does not come into play when finding a matching method signature.

3. what really happens under the hood?Read the JLS for those details.

  • Whole number field formatted as timezone in CRM 2013 SP1UR1 gives error on saving

    Hi,
    I added a whole number field formatted  as time zone to the appointment form and when I save the record I get an error saying
    Crm Exception: Message: An unexpected error occurred., ErrorCode: -2147220970, InnerException: System.InvalidCastException: Unable to cast object of type 'Microsoft.Xrm.Sdk.OptionSetValue' to type 'System.IConvertible'.
    This error is coming from the timezone field and only happens when I have data in the field. Has anyone seen this?

    More info, the error occurs on pipeline stage 30 of the Book or Reschedule message and the same thing happens in CRM 2015. I've started a thread on connect with URL
    https://connect.microsoft.com/dynamicssuggestions/feedback/details/1128206/crm-2013-sp1ur1-cant-handle-the-timezone-field
    This must be rather new because I've tried it in CRM 2011 UR late and it did not occur there, I haven't tried CRM 2013 RTM though so I can't say if it's a CRM 2013 or a CRM 2013 SP1UR1 issue.
    BTW, the 2015 org was a complete vanilla so I've pretty much ruled out custom code as a culprit :)

  • Rounding text size to nearest whole number?

    I've had to rescale some artwork, but now I'm left with type sizes that are 71.68px tall, 34.51px tall, etc.
    Is there a script that'll snap all the text in a document to it's nearest whole number or 0.1 decimal?

    // rounds the size of text in all textFrames in your document
    var aTFrame = app.activeDocument.textFrames;
    for ( i = 0; i < aTFrame.length; i++ )
    var fractionSize = aTFrame[i].textRange.characterAttributes.size;
    var RoundedSize = Math.round(fractionSize);
    aTFrame[i].textRange.characterAttributes.size = RoundedSize;
    redraw();
    This will do all the text frames. Copy the above, paste it into a text editor or the Adobe ESTK (ExtendScript Tool Kit) and save as a plain text file with a .jsx extension. Place it into Applications/Adobe Illustrator CSX/Presets/en_US/Scripts folder and restart AI. Run it by having a document open in AI and call it from File>Scripts>scriptname.

  • ORA-00932: inconsistent data types: expected NUMBER got BINARY

    ORA-00932: inconsistent data types: expected NUMBER got BINARY
    Hi,
    Could anyone help in resolving my problem?
    I ‘m developing cmp beans in Jbuilder X,
    My database is Oracle 10g, running on Linux and Application server is Oracle10gAs. Running on Windows.
    I can deploy my Entity EJB’s OK and look then up using finder methods as long as I’ve created the data directly in the database using SQL*Plus for instance.
    In the database I have my primary keys defined as type NUMBER
    In my EJB the corresponding number fields get mapped as java.math.BigDecimal.
    which according to the Oracle JDBC specification is how they are mapped.
    Problem:
    When I try to create a new database entity through my EJB entity bean I get:-
    Error "ORA-00932: inconsistent datatypes: expected NUMBER got BINARY".
    The value of the number being used as the primary key in this example is 10.
    Eg:-
    BigDecimal pk = new BigDecimal(10);
    TestBean test = home.create(pk);
    The datatype in my EJB Deployment descriptor ejb-jar-xml <pri-key-class> is java.math.BigDecimal>
    The jdbc driver defined in my application.xml is
    oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleDriverand url="jdbc:oracle:thin..." in the connection.
    I’ve even tried mapping a datatype as described in the Oracle FAQ’s but this didn’t work.
    21.     I'm trying to deploy a CMP entity bean with a field type BigDecimal and the table creation fails with an error. How do I work around this?
    You have to perform the following steps prior to deploy your application.
    o     Define the mapping for java.math.BigDecimal in the database-schemas/oracle.xml as follows:
    <type-mapping type="java.math.BigDecimal" name="number(20,8)" />o     Use this schema in your data-source as follows:-
    <data-source
    class="com.evermind.sql.DriverManagerDataSource"
    name="OracleDS"
    ejb-location="jdbc/OracleDS"
    schema="database-schemas/oracle.xml"
    connection-driver="oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleDriver"
    username="scott"
    password="tiger"
    url="jdbc:oracle:thin:@localhost:1521:DEBU"
    clean-available-connections-threshold="30"
    rac-enabled="false"
    inactivity-timeout="30"
    />

    Further clarification of my problem.
    Originally I said the error occurred when deploying EJB's
    Correction: I can deploy them OK on the application server However the Error message occurs when I try to create a new EJB entity, the only value required is the Primary key which I pass as type BidDecimal.
    If I create entries directly in the database my EJB findByPrimaryKey can find entities OK.
    But I cant create new ones through EJB.
    What realy baffels me is why I'm able to read data through the connection but not write.
    The datatype in my EJB Deployment descriptor ejb-jar-xml <pri-key-class> is java.math.BigDecimal>
    The jdbc driver defined in my application.xml is
    oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleDriver
    and url="jdbc:oracle:thin..." in the connection.

  • What is this error java.sql.SQLException: Bad format for number ?

    Dear All,
    I am reading few values from database. Then I get this error "MyError:Error : java.sql.SQLException: Bad format for number 'Sarawak' in column 6. " So what is this error referring to. I have checked the database column and its value fits according the data type. Any hints please?

    I have checked the database column and its value fits according the data type.Check again. Then check again. Keep checking until you find your error. You are trying to read a string containing "Sarawak" as a number. You have "getInt(6)" or other numeric type, and the 6th column in the select statement is not numeric.

  • How to get only the whole number omitting the decimals

    Hi Experts,
    I want to get only the whole number of a output field. For example  i am getting an output as 8.766 , i need only the value 8 .
    I checked by moving the values to integer field but i am getting the rounding value 9 .
    I want only the whole value 8.
    Please help me out..
    thanks & Regards.
    Reena..

    Hi Reena,
    Unfortunately when you assign a packed number to a character, numeric or even a packed no without a decimal value SAP does a internal conversion of rounding these value. So direct assignment would won't work for your case.
    You can use the following logic instead for getting the whole number.
    DATA : LV_VAR1 TYPE STRING,
                LV_VAR2 type p DECIMALS 3 value '8.766'.
    LV_VAR1 = lV_VAR2.   " LV_VAR1 would contain 8.766 without rounding.
    write  : LV_VAR1(1).   " LV_VAR1(1) contains 8 which you can assign to any target variable.
    I think there is no addition so as to avoid this internal rounding.
    Try and let me know if it works for you..
    Cheers
    Ajay

  • Downloading 4.0 onto XP it takes a long conection process, with boxes on unresponsive script and a java scipt app saying type error and is all very annoying so what can I do I want the old firefox back a

    I downloaded Firefox 4.0 replacing an earlier Firefox version. I have XP on my computer. When I now click on the Firefox icon after a time a window saying Unresponsive script and underneath script chrome etc comes up. I then press stop script and another window comes up Java Script application and type error. Eventually I get on to the internet but it's all very frustrating. I wish I had ignored the request to download 4.0
    Please help

    I can assure you that the sympton is indeed identical. For as the computer got worse, eventually it refused to start up and made 3 beeps. It has done this before, but today more times than before (just like when it first had this problem). Where-ever you go on the internet, it will tell you that the 3 beeps suggest the RAM is at fault. So, the same 3 beeps, means the same problem, which is the RAM.
    With that in mind, I re-ask my question with the same reasoning and justification; am I still covered under warranty? (Reasoning/Justification: Considering the original problem was not entirely fixed, though something else was to make the MacBook Pro last a little longer before the reoccurance of this problem).

  • In pre-CC versions could just type a number to select a page to print and now you can't

    I just recently upgraded to CC and I produce thousands of files and have to output PDF files of each page and name them differently (ie. filename-front.pdf for page 1 and filename-back.pdf for page 2). I used to be able to do this very fast by just typing the number of the page and then click return and it prints or outputs a PDF. Now I have to hit tab 3 times to get the cursor to go into the page number field and then type the number to get it to work. Is there not a way to do the same thing I've been doing for the past 15 years I've been using InDesign?

    Unless there is a script for forcing the focus to the page range box, hitting tab 3 times seems to be what's needed.
    Perhaps you should consider filing a feature request for a change back.

    There are a lot of posts in the forums today with people having problems with iMessage.   There was also a published outage yesterday, so it's possible there are still some issues that may be impacting you both.
    I would just wait it out - I'm sure it will be sorted out soon.

         void com.evermind.server.http.HttpRequestHandler.run(java.lang.Thread)
         void com.evermind.util.ThreadPoolThread.run()
    Question:
    - What is the cause of this error message? How to avoid?.
    From the Oracle error message documentation:
    ORA-00020 maximum number of processes (string) exceeded
    Cause: All process state objects are in use.
    Action: Increase the value of the PROCESSES initialization parameter.
    Another alternative approach may be to configure your Connection pool and/or your ApplicationModule pool to optimize the use of
    database connections and/or restrict the number of database connections used by the application. For example, if your application
    has declared many root ApplicationModules (i.e. more than one ApplicationModule pool is in use) then it may help to enable the
    jbo.doconnectionpooling switch so that each ApplicationModule instance in the pools does not maintain a dedicated database
    connection while not in use. Another alternative if you are using the BC4J connection pool (not a JDBC datasource) may be to
    restrict the number of connections the pool can create to < 150 with the jbo.maxpoolsize switch. However, please note that this
    may have an impact on throughput.
    - I intended to deploy my application to 9IAS server. Will the same problem occurs too?.
    This is a database issue. So, yes.
    Hope this helps.

  • Queue SYSFAIL after message split "Whole number overflow on addition"

    Hi,
    I'm using a message mapping in PI 7.1 to split a message in several messages for each line of an invoice. It's a mapping 1 to 0..n. Everything went well since I had maximum 100 invoice lines to split (then 100 messages at the output of the mapping).
    But since I have now messages with 200 invoice lines, everytime the queue is stopped in SYSFAIL status with a message "Whole number overflow on addition". But all messages are processed even if the queue is stopped.
    ST22 gives me a COMPUTE_INT_PLUS_OVERFLOW in the method determin_message_size. It seams that PI doen't support a large message at output of a mapping. How can I split the message into multple messages at the outplut of a message mapping ?
    Does anyone have a solution ?

    Hi,
    I guess you can use the Message Packing feature.

    Oh, I see, you are running you JSP from a portal environment?.... I would ask this question in the Portal forum.
    It also might depend upon the version and implementation of JSP you are using. We have made images from a JSP, but newer versions of JSP server software might explicitly disallow it since it is now explicitly unsupported.

  • Flex 4.5 - java.lang.IllegalArgumentException: argument type mismatch

    0 down vote favorite
    I am having a problem when sending a soap request from a flex  4.5 application to a coldfusion 9 web service created using a CFC.
    The  most annoying thing it is only an intermittent problem but I can't work  out what is wrong.
    There a many methods within the web service of which Flex has no  issue, but these are mainly ones that read data.  The one I am having a  problem with is one that is writing back to the web service.
    The issue only arises when I have to restart the Coldfusion service  for some reason, which is quite often as the development machine is my  laptop.  It has now also happened when I have moved the Flex app to a  development server for testing and as it's hosted I can't restart the  services easily.
    I get the response below every time.  I have tried tracing the call  through the Flash Builder Network monitor and building a dummy call  using the same data, all to no avail.
    I have tried stripping out all of the code and then rebuilding it,  which takes a long time as I am using custom types in ColdFusion.
    Also , if I cfinvoke the method through a CFM page, it works fine. It  is only when trying to call it through a SOAP request through Flex 4.5.
    It will then suddenly start working again however and then it is fine  until I restart the CF services again.
    I can't tell what I triggers it  to start working again.
    Does something initialise it in ColdFusion and then it's fine ???.  I am  really struggling with this and any help would be appreciated.
    I have a  sample SOAP request that I trapped in the Network Monitor and also the  WSDL if needed.
