Java script in Jsp Dynpage

Hi all,
Can any one give me a sample code for using a java script in jsp dynpage which invokes on client click. I mean i want to call a java script function on client click.

Hi,
Check these:
https://wiki.sdn.sap.com/wiki/display/Snippets/JSPDynPage-Howtohideanelementonclienteventingaswellaschangethetextofthebutton+dynamically
Search for onClientClick in above link and you will find the corresponding javascript function that is called when user clicks the button.

  • Share variable value between java script and jsp

    Hi, Firends:
    In my old web page I used a static array to hold a set of values, and now I want to use dynamic value from datbase.
    I created a bean to process database data and return resultset value to an array string.
    I convert my html page into jsp page, use "usebean" tag to call specific method, after done, how can I set the
    resultvaule to my script variable?
    It's urgent!! great thanks!

    Hello,
    Finally, the codes work! thanks for all the suggestion!
    The most important is "J" need <%= tag too. and do not forget the double quotation mark ("") while assigning the value.
    the code like following:
    <jsp:useBean id="ArrayBean" class="myProj.BeanServices"
    scope="page" >
    </jsp:useBean>
    <%! public String[] dataArray; %>
    <%
    dataArray = ArrayBean.getRecordsetReturn();
    %>
    <script language="JavaScript1.2">
    var MCC = new Array(<%=dataArray.length%>);
    <%for(int j =0; j < dataArray.length; j++){ %>;
    MCC[<%=j%>]="<%=dataArray[j]%>";
    <%}%>;
    </script>
    One more question:
    I found on the web server, if I used the same file name (asp file and js file, html file is ok.), seems the server always used the old compiled codes ignoring the code already changed, even after re-complile. I have to change the file name again and again.
    I worked on JDeveloper environment, it has a testing web server environment on my local, I am not sure if this situation will happen in the real server environment.
    How can I make any new updates go into effect immidiately! Do you know web server has some configuration to handle this?
    Thanks a gain!

  • How to get the value in java script to JSP

    Hi,
    I have written an onclick function on each row and passing the primary key of the table to the javascript function. I want the value which I have passed to the javascript back in the jsp to delete the particular row. How can I achieve this.
    Thanks

    Thank you for your reply!! Here I am getting the values only into the javascript after I click a particular row in the table. So for the bean and action to get that particular vale I think I have to submit the form and then get the values back because its initially showing null. How do I submit the form and get the value back, so that I can delete particular row?

    Are you talking about server-side java code (servlets/jsp) or client side (applet)? Given we are in the JSP forum I'll assume we're talking server side.
    If so, you are making a common but fundamental mistake. JavaScript executes on the client, not on the server. If you want client data on the server it has to get there somehow. The simplest way to do this in JSP land is via HTTP. So... have your JavaScript code call a JSP (or servlet) and pass the value you want as a URL parameter. Of course this will also change the browser location, so if you don't want this to happen use a frame or iframe to capture your HTTP request.
    For example:
    Javascript....
    function someFunction() {
    return 1;
    var value = someFunction();
    location.href="somejsp.jsp?value=" + value;

  • Display pop ups in the jsp by using Java script

    Hi
    can any body say ,how to display pop ups in the jsp by using Java script ?

    that's correct. You can use the below code for AJAX request.
    <script type="text/javascript">
    var httpObject = getHTTPObject();
    //create XMLHttpRequest object
    function getHTTPObject() {
         var xmlhttp;
         if (window.XMLHttpRequest) // if Mozilla, Safari etc
              xmlhttp = new XMLHttpRequest();
         else if (window.ActiveXObject){ // if IE
              try {
                   xmlhttp = new ActiveXObject("Msxml2.XMLHTTP");
              catch ( e ){
                   try{
                        xmlhttp = new ActiveXObject("Microsoft.XMLHTTP");
                   catch ( e ){}
         return xmlhttp;
    //define the function to send the request
    function sendRequest(){
        var currDesc = document.getElementById("description").value;
        var URL =  "manageMaintAction.do"; //action mapping in your struts-config
        var queryString = "currDesc="+escape(currDesc); //get the currDesc value in your action class like request.getParameter("currDesc")
        httpObject.open( "Post", URL, true );
        httpObject.onreadystatechange = cbFn;
        httpObject.setRequestHeader( "Content-Type", "application/x-www-form-urlencoded");
        httpObject.send(queryString);
    //callback fn
    function cbFn() {
        if (httpObject.readyState == 4)
             if (httpObject.status == 200)
              var result = httpObject.responseText;

  • Java script not working in JSP.

    Hi everyone
    I've got a problem with a java scipt that's not doing what I want it to do.
    I have a jsp which gets data from a database to display.
    On the jsp there is a "add" button which on click will open another jsp to add a contact, when I add the contact the jsp calls a web servlet which adds the contact to the database.
    After the contact is added the servlet directs the page back to the contacts page, and it must display the newly added contact in the jsp.
    I've configured a script that checks if there is a attribute called "addContact", if it has a value of "added" it must reload the page on load, which in turn will display the newly added contact, it refreshes but it doesn't display the newly added contact, it worked but after awhile it stopped working.
    Beneath is my code for the contact list jsp and the servlet.
    ContactList.jsp
    <?xml version="1.0"?>

    Hi stevejluke
    Thanks for the reply.
    ContactsData stores the Contacts into a database, Access to be precise.
    The store of the Contacts works fine and it gets redirected to the ContactsList.jsp page, but I need to click refresh on the browser to see the new
    contact. I've tried to make it load automatically when the browser opens but it wouldn't, it worked before.
    I'm using Apache to host the webpage.I don't see any errors.So lemme get this straight:
    You have the contactsList.jsp which when Add is clicked you go to addContact.jsp in the same window. Then when addContact is submitted it goes to the neContact servlet which adds the contact to the database and then sends a redirect back to the contactsList.jsp.
    When contactsList.jsp is re-shown it doesn't display the new data so you are using javascript to force-refresh the page, which used to work, but doesn't anymore.
    My guess is that your browser or some proxy between your browser and server is caching the page. You have to tell all clients not to cache that page using META tags:
    <?xml version="1.0"?>
    <%@ page import="contacts.Contacts"%>
    <%@ page import="java.util.*"%>
    <jsp:useBean id = "contactsData" scope = "page" class ="contacts.ContactsData"/>
    <html>
         <head>
              <title>Contact List</title>
                    <meta HTTP-EQUIV="expires" CONTENT="0" />
                    <meta HTTP-EQUIV="Pragma" CONTENT="no-cache" />
                    <meta HTTP-EQUIV="Cache-Control" CONTENT="no-cache" /> You could then get rid of your javascript refresh code altogether.
    p.s. I am a big fan of using JSTL. Try to get rid of all your scriptlets and replace it with JSTL. It would look something like this:
              <h1>Contacts</h1>
              <form>
                   <table cellpadding="5">
                        <c:forEach var="contact" items="${contactsData.contacts}">
                                  <tr>
                                       <td><input type="radio" name="deleteContact" value="${contact.name}"></td>
                                       <td><a href = "UpdateContact.jsp?paramName=${contact.name}">${contact.name}</a></td>
                                       <td>${contact.company}</td>
                                       <td>${contact.workNumber}</td>
                                       <td><a href = "mailto:${contact.email}">${contact.email}</a>
                                  </tr>
                        </c:forEach>
                   </table>
                        <br>
                        <input type="button" value="Add" onClick="clicked('add')"/>
              </form>

    What pgeuens means is that you can't mix javascript and jsp/java code in this way.
    ALL of the jsp/java code gets executed at the server end.
    This produces an HTML page (with embedded javascript) which gets sent to the client.
    The client then runs javascript code in response to events (onLoad, onClick, onChange etc etc)
    So in this case, the jsp:forward will always be executed, because as far as the server is concerned, the javascript is just template text.
    If you WANT to do a conditional forwarding on the server side you do it in java ie (horribly using scriptlet)
    <%
    if (testCondition){
    %>
      <jsp:forward>
    %<
    %>Or if you want to test what the client has entered client side, all you can do is submit the form, or navigate to a URL
    <script>
    function test()
    if(document.f.htemp.value=="true")
    alert("jus");
    else
    var s=document.f.htemp.value;
    alert(s);
    document.f1.action="success.jsp";
    document.f.submit();
    </script>You cannot run JSP code based on your javascript code.
    Java. Javascript. Not the same thing.
    Hope this helps,

  • How to create two level dynamic list using JSP , Java Script and Oracle

    I am new in JSP. And i am facing problem in creating two level dynamic list using JSP ,Java Script where the listdata will come from Oracle 10g express edition database. Is there any easy way in JSP that is available on in ASP.NET.
    Plz response with details.

    1) Learn JDBC API [http://java.sun.com/docs/books/tutorial/jdbc/index.html].
    2) Create DAO class which contains JDBC code and do all SQL queries and returns or takes ID's or DTO objects.
    3) Learn Servlet API [http://java.sun.com/javaee/5/docs/tutorial/doc/].
    4) Create Servlet class which calls the DAO class, gets the list of DTO's as result, puts it as a request attribute and forwards the request to a JSP page.
    5) Learn JSP and JSTL [http://java.sun.com/javaee/5/docs/tutorial/doc/]. Also learn HTML if you even don't know it.
    6) Create JSP page which uses the JSTL c:forEach tag to access the list of DTO's and iterate over it and prints a HTML list out.
    You don't need Javascript for this.
