Java stopped working

I have some Java sources that I have compiled into classes. They have been working fine for the past 6 months.
Today suddenly Java is giving an error in thread main of java.lang.NoCLassDefFoundError, which is the same error it gives if there is no class file.
I went back and tested Java on my backups and they all give the same error. It is like Java is unable to find the .class file.
I tried using the .bat files that have worked in the past to start up my Java app. I have tried typing out the full paths to both the java.exe and the .class file. I have recompiled the source into a .class
Nothing works and all fail.
Any ideas why java would stop functioning? Only things I can think of were that I ran Spybot Search and destroy and AdAware a couple days ago. All they found were cookies.
I have not done a Windows Update in a couple weeks. I always update Manually.
Java version is using 1.4.2_05
I tested it on a small Java HelloSwingApplet.class and get the same error.
I rebooted the machine but no luck.
Any clues why Java would suddently fail to fine any classes?

What should I set the ClassPath= to by default? What do you mean? You should not set the CLASSPATH environment variable at all.
When you run a Java program, you should give it whatever classpath is appropriate for it using -cp or -classpath on the command line. What's "appropriate" will vary from program to program, and you need to be able to determine that yourself. We can't tell you because we don't know your programs, where they live, what classes they use, etc.
This might help.
Javapedia: Classpath
Setting the class path (Windows)
How Classes are Found
java -cp .;<any other directories or jars> YourClassNameYou get a NoClassDefFoundError message because the JVM (Java Virtual Machine) can't find your class. The way to remedy this is to ensure that your class is included in the classpath. The example assumes that you are in the same directory as the class you're trying to run.
javac -classpath .;<any additional jar files or directories> YourClassName.javaYou get a "cannot resolve symbol" message because the compiler can't find your class. The way to remedy this is to ensure that your class is included in the classpath. The example assumes that you are in the same directory as the class you're trying to run.
I tried the c:\j2sdk1.4.2_05 and c:\j2sdk1.4.2_05\lib
and c:\j2sdk1.4.2_05\jre\lib and none are workingYeah. No. That would be a bad idea.
What is the normal setting for the ClassPath
variable? Nonexistent, if you do it right.

  • Java stopped working in FF 3.6.12despite having uninstalled/reinstalled latest Java

Life was good until recently when java stopped working in FF when accessing eBay (although this continues working fine in IE).
I have uninstalled all Java and reinstalled the latest version, made sure Java is enabled in FF, all to no avail. Clicking on Tools/Java Console does not bring up the console and most of the Java-based functions in eBay (Zoom, Enlarge, various links and buttons) are not working.
FF version is 3.6.12 and Java is 1.6.0.22 (per javatester.org web site... which does bring up the Java console in FF, for what ever that's worth... does this indicate the problem is with eBay and not FF???).

Potentially unsafe versions of the Java plugin are "Click to Play" blocked, meaning that you have to click to activate Java for each site. See the [[How to enable Java if it's been blocked]] article for more information.

  • Java stopped working and cannot be reinstalled

As of yesterday, attempting to open Java programs started giving me errors such as "Could not find the main class: <software-specific class name>. Program will exit." and "Could not create the Java Virtual Machine." I am unsure what triggered this exactly; I had installed Microsoft Visual Studio and some miscellaneous game development software, and gotten a lousy excuse for a virus somewhere along the way. I suspect the virus is what spelled my doom.
I got rid of the virus easily enough, but Java remains broken. Not only do I get errors when trying to open a Java-based program, but I also get errors when installing or uninstalling Java.
Installing Java 6 Update 22 works fine until it nears the end of the installation, at which point I receive three errors in a row:
"Could not create the Java Virtual Machine."
"Could not find the main class: com.sun.servicetag.installer. Program will exit."
"Could not create the Java Virtual Machine."
The setup program then happily tells me that Java was successfully installed on my system.
Uninstalling Java similarly gives me the same first two errors, but doesn't repeat the last one.
After repeating these steps a few times, I uninstalled all old versions of Java, which didn't help at all. Any ideas? I'm thinking that perhaps the virus busted something that Java depends on, but I don't know what. I suppose it's also possible that something I installed created a conflict.

    LockeZ wrote:
Wow, you that broke it even worse.
Now I can't install nor uninstall it. Your Microsofts damn cleanup utility removed it from the list of installed programs, but if I try to install it then it tells me "Java is already installed, would you like to reinstall it?" and then "This action is only valid for programs that are currently installed."
So now I have two unrelated problems to deal with. Help?As you never said what version of Windows you are running I can only offer

  • Java(TM) 2 Platform Standard Edition binary has stopped working

Does anyone ever put ODAC10203x64.zip into Windows Server 2008 x64? I hit the error:
Java(TM) 2 Platform Standard Edition binary has stopped working
    Ming Man

    Hi Mark,
Let me get you more details.
I have Windows Server 2008 x64 running with Visual Studio 2008 installed.
For Oracle, I have cleared all my previous installation and even deleted all the folders for previous installation of ODP.NET. After that I only installed the Oracle Database 10g Client Release 2 (10.2.0.4) from the link you gave (I installed all the components) :
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/products/database/oracle10g/htdocs/10204_winx64_vista_win2k8.html
I have Oracle Database 11g running on VMWare on Windows XP 32 bit.
When I run my WinForm application using code so far so good. I extract data from the HR schema and put them in listbox, perfectly no error.
But when I am trying to create by Add New Data Source... then I hit the:
Attempt to load Oracleclient libraries threw BadImageFormatException. This problem will occur when running in 64 bit mode with the 32 bit Oracle client components
Hope that can give you a better idea.

  • LiveCycle Workbench ES2 - "Java(TM) Platform SE binary has stopped working" Error

    Hi,
I am getting this error when I try to create a new process o open an existing process.
"Java(TM) Platform SE binary has stopped working"
The only option is to click on a "Close" button and end the LC Workbench ES2 program.
Also, when I try to open an existing form, it displays 'garbage' - a screenfull of control unrecognizable characters - instead of the form itself.
When this error comes up, I also get a pop-up window with a list of log entries / errors (please see attached: Java Platform SE binary has stopped working.jpg)
    Environment:
Windows Vista Ultimate running on HP Desktop (e9107c Intel CORE 2 Quad Processor withy 8 GB RAM, 750GB HDD)

The LiveCycle ES2 server is installed properly and is working with the following services. Are there any missing services?
LiveCycle Output ES2, LiveCycle Rights Management ES2, LiveCycle PDF Generator ES2 Evaluation, LiveCycle Process Management ES2, LiveCycle Workspace ES2, Applications and Services, LiveCycle ContentServices ES2, LiveCycle Forms ES2
I already had Adobe Acrobat Pro Extended 9.2 and the associated LiveCycle Designer instaleld prior to installing the Trial of LC ES2.
Basesd on the installation insttructions, I deleted the Designer ES from my Acrobat Pro Extended and instaleld the LC Workbench ES2.
Now I don't see a seprate entry for the LC Designer ES2 anymore on my Start >> Programs.
And th newly installed LC Workbench is not working
Any help in making the workbench 'work' is greatly appreciated.
Are there any tests we can do to troubleshoot this?

  • Reverted Java 6 plug-in stopped working

My Java 6 plug-in (reverted from Java 7) won't work anymore. I've used the reverted Java 6 plug-in for a couple of months but a couple of days ago it stopped working. I know that Apple blocked Java in Safari but it doesnt work in Firefox either.
I've reinstalled Java 6+Java 7u13 multiple times but still Java 6 won't work. I don't get any messages when trying to run applets, its just blanked, i.e. http://javatester.org/version.html doesn't show any information. Everything works fine with Java 7u13 but i have to use Java 6 because of some applications that runs on a platform that requires Java 6.
    Anyone with the same problem?

I found my own solution to this one after many more hours of frustration. I found that there was a toolbar applet installed in Internet Explorer that started its own private JVM, and that JVM was being seen by the plugin code for 1.3.1_07. Apparently there was some conflict between what the plugin code expected and what that private JVM (not sure what version it was, the code had no mention of it) had to offer, which caused the crash dialog. Uninstalling the toolbar (and its parent application) solved the problem. I may do further testing to see if there are any plugin versions that do work with this particular applet.
It is also still a mystery why this problem only cropped up after installing and uninstalling 1.4.x version of the plugin, but I didn't keep close track of the whole sequence so it may have been coincidental.
    Hope this helps someone.

  • Java "loops" Stopped working

I am a new Mac user (as of June 9) with the new MacBook Pro. A website that I access frequently that uses Java loops suddenly stopped working 3 days ago. I did not change anything..The only thing I can think of is that an automatic SW update changed something..I checked the Java preferences and the last change date was June 25, so it would appear nothing with Java changed recently..The only thing that was downloaded recently was QuickTIme R7..Is there some compatibility issue? I was going to try to uninstall the new QuickTime but I do not know if that is possible and if it is, can someone tell me how to do this? I know how to install/uninstall programs on WinXP, but obviously this is Mac 10.5.7 and I do not want to mess things up! Any suggestions on how to resolve or debug would be much appreciatged! Thanks in advance.

Using Mac OS X and Internet/Networking:
    http://discussions.apple.com/category.jspa?categoryID=235
TimeMachine and bootable backups are a must. Make a clone of your boot drive and then keep it off line. Mac OS X can boot from multiple drives with same OS, including external drives.
That way, you can boot from your last month backup and test to see if it still happens.

The executables are located in all the correct paths (I think) C:\Program Files, C:\Program Files (x86), and C:\Windows\System32. I've uninstalled and reinstalled all java versions multiple times and have tried executing the installer as the Admin (I have full admin rights). I also tried disabling the Symantec Endpoint protection during installation. A few other users in my company are also using the exact same system set up as I am; however, they are not having this problem. We are releasing a Netbeans based development tool to our customers very soon (it's out in Beta form now), so I really need to get this issue resolved. Does anyone have an idea on how to fix this?
    Thank you!!

I have the same problem. I have un installed and installed java jre n jdk 6 and 7 versions multiple times. I am also runing win 7 64bit OS on macbook. I am getting this problem at the time of installation and running of both oracle OBIEE and jasper BI suits. Because of this error I tried installation of these products even after formatting my pc several times with brand new installation of BI products.

  • JTable.changeSelection() has stopped working for me in Java 1.5

The application I'm working on has a search function for a large table of data. In addition, you can restrict the search to a selected area of the table. This worked fine when compiled on Java 1.4, but has stopped working on Java 1.5. It appears the problem is with changeSelection not actually changing the selection to the cell that was found in the search.
I've been able to reproduce the problem with some small modifications to the SimpleTableSelectionDemo.java tutorial program. I've included the code below with my changes.
Basically all I did was modify the mouseListener so that instead of printing the table contents, it calls changeSelection to a fixed location (simulating the search going to a matching cell).
If I compile/run in 1.4, I can select a cell or region, right-click the mouse and see the specified cell selected. If I start typing the selected cell is edited.
If I compile/run in 1.5, when I right-click the selected cell is not changed (the second selected cell of the select region stays selected). If I start typing the wrong cell is edited.
Hopefully someone can tell me if this is a run-time bug, or a change in behavior (and what I need to do to get it working again in 1.5).

  • CS 5 Photoshop stopped working Yosemite and Java SE 6.

My Photoshop CS 5 has stopped working on my Mac loaded with Yosemite and Java SE 6.  I get a Fatal Error. and must exit.  All other products from the Production Premium suite work.  How do I get the Photoshop component to work again.

Did you reinstall Photoshop CS5 after upgrading to MacOS 10.10?
You need to reinstall to replace Photoshop files damaged by the MacOS installer.
Then make sure you have all the Photoshop updates installed.
