Reverted Java 6 plug-in stopped working

My Java 6 plug-in (reverted from Java 7) won't work anymore. I've used the reverted Java 6 plug-in for a couple of months but a couple of days ago it stopped working. I know that Apple blocked Java in Safari but it doesnt work in Firefox either.
I've reinstalled Java 6+Java 7u13 multiple times but still Java 6 won't work. I don't get any messages when trying to run applets, its just blanked, i.e. http://javatester.org/version.html doesn't show any information. Everything works fine with Java 7u13 but i have to use Java 6 because of some applications that runs on a platform that requires Java 6.
Anyone with the same problem?

I found my own solution to this one after many more hours of frustration. I found that there was a toolbar applet installed in Internet Explorer that started its own private JVM, and that JVM was being seen by the plugin code for 1.3.1_07. Apparently there was some conflict between what the plugin code expected and what that private JVM (not sure what version it was, the code had no mention of it) had to offer, which caused the crash dialog. Uninstalling the toolbar (and its parent application) solved the problem. I may do further testing to see if there are any plugin versions that do work with this particular applet.
It is also still a mystery why this problem only cropped up after installing and uninstalling 1.4.x version of the plugin, but I didn't keep close track of the whole sequence so it may have been coincidental.
Hope this helps someone.

    Anyone else experience this problem before?

    First, you need to get off of Java 1.5 and back to 1.4.2. 1.5

    Secondly, you need to make sure RDS is enabled on all of your

  • Java in suddenly stopped working. Help?

    Java in suddenly stopped working. Get "inactive plugin". Things were fine yesterday. Checked Java preference and everthing looks fine. Running os 10.6.8. Does anyone have a fix?

    The recently released Java 7 Update 11 has been blocked by Apple through its XProtect anti-malware feature in OS X.
    Oracle issued the latest update to Java earlier this month to fix a serious zero-day security flaw. The threat was so serious that the U.S. Department of Homeland Security had recommended that all Java 7 users disable or uninstall the software until a patch was issued.
    Apple took action on its own and quietly disabled the plugin through its OS X anti-malware system. And as noted by MacGeneration on Thursday, Apple has again updated its OS X XProtect list, this time to block Java 7 Update 11.
    Because Oracle has yet to issue a newer version of Java that addresses any outstanding issues, Mac users are prevented from running Java on their system.
    Over the last few years, Apple has moved to gradually remove Java from OS X. The Mac maker dropped the Java runtime from the default installation for OS X 10.7 Lion when the operating system update launched in 2010. Java vulnerabilities have been a common exploit used by malicious hackers looking to exploit the OS X platform.
    Most notably, the "Flashback" trojan that spread last year was said to have infected as many as 600,000 Macs worldwide at its peak. Apple addressed the issue by releasing a removal tool specifically tailored for the malware, and also disabled the Java runtime in its Safari web browser starting with version 5.1.7.
    Javascript should not be disabled (it has nothing to do with Java).

  • Plug-in stopped working in Internet Explorer after upgrade to JDK 1.4.2

    I've been struggling with this one for a week now with no success, hope someone can help. I have Windows 2000, SP4, IE5.5, everything was working fine with the initial installation of JRE 1.3.2, then upgrades to 1.3.4, 1.3.7, 1.4.1 and finally 1.4.2. An applet forced an install of 1.3.1_07, and it stopped working, I uninstalled both 1.3.1_07 and 1.4.2 and reinstalled 1.3.1_07, and since then I get a dialog with the message:
    Cannot load class sun/plugin/JavaRunTime.
    The Bridge was installed at <C:\PROGRA~1\JavaSoft\JRE\1.37DB1~1.1_0> but the class is not there
    Modify the registry key to reflect the new bridge location
    The key is HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\JavaSoft\Java Plug-in
    or change your CLASSPATH to include the new directory
    Please consult the documentation for more information
    And the dialog title says "Java(TM) Plug-in 1.4 Fatal Error"
    BUT 1.4 is uninstalled and totally GONE!
    I have uninstalled and reinstalled numerous times, numerous versions of JDK/JRE, always with the same basic result. Any attempts to install 1.4.x (either JRE or JDK) give this dialog PLUS a series of little dialogs with the header "asdas", and the message "register failk". I've looked through the forums and buglists for this same problem and found a few mentions of it, but there never seems to be any solution given.
    And by the way, Mozilla 1.4 works perfectly with all the plug-in versions I've installed.
    I'm beginning to believe there's a conspiracy....

    I found my own solution to this one after many more hours of frustration. • HT1338 Java Plug in not working?

    I have re-installed java several times and can not get the plug in to work.  So frustrating.

    Hi mommaduckof2,
    Have you tried downloading this Java update?   Hopefully it will help ....
    Java for OS X 2013-003
    The article below explains what this update does:
    About Java for OS X 2013-003
    This release updates the Apple-provided system Java SE 6 to version 1.6.0_45 and is for OS X versions 10.7 or later.
    This update uninstalls the Apple-provided Java applet plug-in from all web browsers. To use applets on a web page, click on the region labeled "Missing plug-in" to go download the latest version of the Java applet plug-in from Oracle.
    This update also removes the Java Preferences application, which is no longer required to configure applet settings.
    Cheers,
    Judy

    my java plug-in doesnt seem to work. i have done several software updates. please help me

    Well, I don't think I will join the debate about Java, but a temporary fix to enable Java (I know, it is a security hazard, however I don't have another option as I have to use the Juniper SSL VPN network connect client).
    So,
    1. close Safari
    2. Open a terminal
    3. sudo vi /System/Library/CoreServices/CoreTypes.bundle/Contents/Resources/XProtect.meta. plist
    4. Find the string MinimumPlugInBundleVersion
    5. Just under that line you should see the version. Change the last portion of the number from 19 to 1.
    6. Save and exit
    7. Start up Safari and you should work. You must keep in mind that this file may be updated by Apple again, so this is only temporary and should only be done if you *must* use your current version of Java.
    best of luck....
    end of quote:
    NOTe: I didn't write this but have the same problem, haven't tried it either, as I use a javascript to download videos from you tube that doesn't work.  Apparently, Apple disabled the plug-in because some sheetbirds are using the vulnerability to break into Apple Users computers.   My suggention it to wait and let Apple deal with, if you need capability, the above seems to work based on the responses from macrumors.  Like I said earlier I haven't tried it so use at your own risk.  It ooks like a simple change, just a flag, change it, do your business, then reset the flag back to 19 or better yet, save the plist file to .plist.old and rename it when you are done.
    Hope this helps

  • Java Plug-in not working with WinXP SP2 Registry Key Missing Error Pop-Up

    I have WinXp PRO with SP2 and the Oct 12 Security Update Patch for SP2 loaded and I went to my Control Panel and saw that the JavaRuntime Environment 1.4.2_04 icon was missing and when I went to click the Java Plugin icon to Open it, I got the following message in a Error Pop-Up window:
    The system cannot find the registry key specified:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\JavaSoft\Java pPlug-in\1.4.2_04\JavaHome
    I then went to Chage Access Program Controls and when I clicked on the Change box for the program, it wanted me to re-install the whole environment.
    Prior to doing this, and potentially screwing up my MS winXp environment, I went to the Sun support page for Java Plug-in and I did get the dancing elmo appear as they said I would but I noticed that my environment was MS VM, not Java and that I was out of date and a newer update was avaliable.
    The downloads page for the plug-in states clearly that it supports WinXp SP1 and NOT SP2.
    SO, my question is, do I need to re-install anything or wait till the whole SP2 issue and java with (BITS) issue gets resolved and just use the MS VM engine during my browsing time? Is there a workaround and what impact will this have on my system? I am not developing Java Apps but am a Power user in Windows who is wondering if applets and general browsing might be easier, faster and more fluid if the Java Runtime was enabled as opposed to the MS VM solution?
    Any ideas or thoughts on this very timely issue would be greatly appreciated as I see others have tried to post related issues but none that succinctly combines what I have asked for here in this post.
    Thanks from NYC -Phil

  • SWT in Java WebStart App stopped working on OSX after upgrading to Java 7

    Hi Forum-Readers,
    i'm maintaining a JavaWS application using SWT for our company for quite a while now. I have reports that it stopped to work on Apple OSX computers, so i started digging into it.
    It seems Apple has dropped their own Java 1.6 implementation and Oracle's Java 7 is now installed by default. An here the misery begins...
    My app started to report the known "***WARNING: Display must be created on main thread due to Cocoa restrictions. / org.eclipse.swt.SWTException: Invalid thread access" issue. Okay, it seems that -XstartOnFirstThread works for Apple's 1.6 but not for Oracle's java 7?
    After digging into it i found out that Oracle's implementation didn't do a restart with -XstartOnFirstThread during javaws init. The cause was that i've dropped signing the application's jnlp file due to some issues on the Microsoft platform. Don't care, i signed it again and next try - and i got one step further:
    Java is now restarted with -XstartOnFirstThread, but then everything freezes up. It seems there is a massive problem bringing up the AWT/Swing subsystem because javaws launcher is sitting on the main thread and AWT also want's the main thread because of the same cause we want it for SWT...
    My next try was to add an additional -Djava.awt.headless=true parameter, and at least everything comes up into my app - but i'm dying on the "Invalid thread access" issue again. I think the javaws starter or maybe AWT is still fooling around with the threads...
    BTW: i just tried it with swt-4.2.1.
    Anyone out there having the same issue or idea's what else i can try?
    Thanks & Bye,
    Chris

    I have made some progress in my RCP application. Inside my implementation of IApplication.start(), I have (ignore the sloppy error handling for now):
    if (SystemHelpers.isOSMac()) {
    private boolean isDisplayBuilt = false;
    try {
    try {
    Class<?> comAppleConcurrentDispatch = Class.forName("com.apple.concurrent.Dispatch");
    Method getInstance = comAppleConcurrentDispatch.getMethod("getInstance", (Class<?>[]) null);
    Object dispatchInstance = getInstance.invoke(null, (Object[]) null);
    Method getNonBlockingMainQueueExecutor = dispatchInstance.getClass().getMethod("getNonBlockingMainQueueExecutor",(Class<?>[]) null);
    Executor executor = (Executor) getNonBlockingMainQueueExecutor.invoke(dispatchInstance, (Object[]) null);
    executor.execute(new Runnable() {
    public void run() {
    try {
    if (display == null) {
    display = PlatformUI.createDisplay();
    PlatformUI.createAndRunWorkbench(display,
    new MyWorkbenchAdvisor()); //my implementation of WorkbenchAdvisor
    isDisplayBuilt = true;
    } catch (Throwable t) {
    //log error
    } catch (Throwable t) {
    //log error
    SwingUtilities.invokeAndWait(new Runnable() {
    @Override
    public void run() {
    while (isDisplayBuilt == false) {
    try {
    Thread.sleep(100);
    } catch (InterruptedException e) {
    //log error
    } catch (Throwable t) {
    //log error
    Putting the AWT EventQueue thread to sleep was a pretty brutal way to go, but it was the only way I could figure out to wait to get the Display object initialized and b) get the non-blocking main queue executor to actually fire the run method.
    But now I'm up against the next issue, which is that my application also uses the AWT_SWT bridge. The first time I try and get an AWT/Swing class running, I get the following:
    (AppKit Thread) A org.eclipse.swt.SWTError object with a message of:

  • My Java has unexpectedly stopped working.

    I installed what I think is the newest version, but it didn't help.
    Suggestions?!

    Assuming you are using Safari ...
    Make sure Java is enabled in Safari > Preferences > Security

    For some reason make has never worked. I've tried installing UnrealIRCd, eggdrop, and now tor, but every single time when I get to make it says "command not found". The Makefile's are there, too. Also, in case this helps, gcc is: gcc (GCC) 4.2.2
