Java system properties in the command line...

Is it possible to know (at run-time) which system properties have been specified in the command line (using the -Dprop=value argument)?
Actually I would like to avoid people running the JVM and using my program overwriting the user.name property.
Thanks
Lionel

Why use JNI? That's a little overkill. Just use args[] in main.
public static void main( String args[] ) {
for( int i = 0; i < args.length; i++ ) {
if( args.startsWith("-Duser.name=") ) {
System.out.println( "Well " + args[i].substring("-Duser.name=".length) + " you're not who you say you are!" );
System.exit(-1);

    I've put the appsborg2.zip file in my classpath. I've also copied the entire (1 GB) worth of Java .class files for Oracle apps onto my computer and placed it on my classpath. Is there something that prevents me from testing out my Java concurrent program on my Windows machine from the command line?

    i think if u run the ap in the command line then it has to stay open, you could try writing a .bat file then when that is executed it will only open the command line for the program execution (i think)

  • How can I start System Preferences from the command line?

    Hello All,
    I have an issue I'm not quite sure how to solve. I have been tasked within my business environment  with tightening security on a Mac Leopard system and I've been granted Admin Rights to do this on a temporary basis.
    The problem is as follows:
    1) The original Sys Admin that set up this system is gone, no longer available.
    2) He was a Dvorak Keyboard fan and set up the system for a Dvorak Keyboard.
    3) The system actually has a standard Apple keyboard and is marked accordingly, i.e., qwerty (Most Users in the building have stopped using this system altogether - a terrible waste of a good system - even though some of their apps can be run normally (US style qwerty settings). The command line is useless, as is texteditor.app and a few others unless you know Dvorak layout)
    5) When I open System Preferences, the Dvorak keyboard checkbox is grayed out and I cannot change it. There is no lock at the bottom of that particular screen for me to unlock.
    6) Even though I select the US Keyboard at Login, and some apps work accordingly (like MatLab for example) the terminal is borderline useless. I spent over 2 hrs yesterday doing what should have been able to be done in about 30 minutes. I estimate a frustrating and mistake prone additional 8 to 10 hours to do what is normally a a 4 hour job at the command-line.
    7) I do not have the time or desire to re-mark all the keys on the keyboard, particularly since it is not my call to do so, nor do I have the time to re-learn Dvorak touch-typing, and finally I do not want to re-load the entire system. I just want to change the darn keyboard to a standard qwerty keyboard that is somewhat useful in a terminal environment with vi, command line, etc. It's either that or I go mildly insane
    This is frustrating as all get-out. The new Admin logged in and was able to uncheck his Dvorak settings (he is not a UNIX guy, nor is he comfortable om Macs), and we were hoping this was a system wide setting, but No. We re-booted the system, I logged in, still Dvorak, and the checkbox was still grayed out.
    So I figure, short of re-loading the entre system and all the applications necesary, I can either start the Systems Preferences GUI using sudo and hopefully that will change system-wide settings, or I can delete the .AppleSetupDone file and resetup the system (if the keyboard settings are part of the setup) without spending a couple of days reloading everything and re-setting up users, networks, etc.
    Needless to say, I am hoping for the easiest and quickest solution to this extremely frustrating and  aggravating problem.
    Thanks.

    For my situation the following C# code does the job:
        Process.Start(
           @"c:\Program Files\National Instruments\CVI71\cvi.exe",
           @"c:\temp\experiment.c" );
    The file must already exist.

  • How to enable Rosetta at the system level using the command line?

    I need to find a way to enable Rosetta at the system level (e.g. all users) using the command line. When Rosetta is enabled, the following entry is created in ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.LaunchServices (run defaults read com.apple.LaunchServices)

    Does anyone know what the data shown here is? It doesn't change when Rosetta is turned off and then back on. It also doesn't change between user accounts (e.g. joe's com.apple.LaunchServices.plist has the same value as jane's).
    Will it be possible to run defaults in a way that makes this change work for all users of the computer?

    I am asking about the option to run in non-interactive modeIt cannot be done. Check "Oracle® Applications Maintenance Utilities Release 11i (11.5.10.2)" manual for more details.

  • Can I change computer client agent properties using the command line ?

    I need to make a script that will change some settings in several configuration manager 2007.
    The settings I have to change are:

    Is it possible to use cmdlets or WMI classes to change these settings in configuration manager 2007 ?

    I've personally been unsuccessful in trying to attempt this, but I am also not too command line savvy. There may be a creative workaround out there somewhere though.

    When you start WebLogic, you can pass system properties via the command

  • Configtool: Java System properties not customizable under Services

    Hi SDN'ers,
    We have a CE 7.11.5 environment.
    When trying to change Java system porperties under Services for example, "com.sap.security.core.ume.service" and property "ume.ldap.access.multidomain.enabled" it is not mofifiable. The custom value can't be changed.
    Also via the web interface via SAP NetWeaver Administrator > Configuration Management > Infrastructure and via Java System Properties, then  the properties are not modifiable via the web.
    The following properties show the same problem:
    ume.ldap.access.additional_password.1
    ume.ldap.access.additional_password.2
    ume.ldap.access.additional_password.3
    ume.ldap.access.additional_password.4
    ume.ldap.access.additional_password.5
    On other CE version's I have seen it is modifiable...
    Can someone help?

  • Problem with running a java program from the command line

    I have this code:
    package pkg;

                   System.out.println(s);
              }catch (Exception e){System.err.println(e);}
    }I've wrote it in Eclipse, added jxl.jar to the buildpath, and it works fine.
    Then I tried to run it from the command line and I did it like this:
    D:\testWorkspace\testProject\bin> java -cp \jxl.jar pkg.TestClassThe result was:
    Exception in thread "main" java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: pkg/TestClass
    Caused by: java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: pkg.TestClass
    ...but the file TestClass.class DOES exist in the folder d:\testWorkspace\testProject\bin\pkg\ and the file jxl.jar IS on the root of drive D (like I already wrote, it worked fine inside the Eclipse).
    So, my question is: How to run this code from the command line?
    I have no idea what went wrong.
    Can someone help me, please?

    The current directory is not implied in the classpath.
    D:\testWorkspace\testProject\bin> java -cp .;d:\ pkg.TestClassor
    D:\testWorkspace\testProject\bin> java -cp .;d:\jxl.jar pkg.TestClassI always forget which is right since I never work with jars...

  • How are the java system properties loaded into the Oracle 8.1.7

    I have listed the java system properties both standalone and in the Oracle database. The standard list of system properties is quite extensive and informative. But the list of system properties from the Oracle database is severely truncated.
    I expect these properties are initialized on database startup.
    If that is the case, I expect there to be a file and initialization parameters that define where the information is kept and there values.
    Can anyone give me some guidance?

    Hi Gurus,
    We are facing a very intriguing issue and want to find out the way self service pages shows information in tab "Java System Properties" on clicking "About This Page" link ( bottom left corner of any EBSO selef service page)

    Hi Peddi,
    Thanks but let me give some more details on our problem.
    It is a EBSO environment.
    On Private MT we do not have any proxies set in context file or any other configuration files.
    <proxyhost oa_var="s_proxyhost"> </proxyhost>
    <proxyport oa_var="s_proxyport"> </proxyport>
    The standard all standard OAF pages ( no customization or personalization ) show via link I mentioned before show these variables set
    http.proxyHost

    Any idea how these get populated ?
    Are these values fetched dynamically via some DB table?

  • Question about reading a string or integer at the command line.

    Now I know java doesn't have something like scanf/readln buillt into it, but I was wondering what's the easiest, and what's the most robust way to add this functionality? (This may require two separate answers, sorry).
    The reason I ask is because I've been learning java via self study for the SCJA, and last night was the first time I ever attempted to do this and it was just hellish. I was trying to make a simple guessing game at the command line, I didn't realize there wasn't a command read keyboard input.
    After fighting with the code for an hour trying to figure it out, I finally got it to read the line via a buffered reader and InputStreamReader(System.in), and ran a try block that threw an exception. Then I just used parseInt to get the integer value for the guess.
    Another question: To take command line input, do you have to throw an exception? And is there an easier way to make this work? It seems awfully complicated to take user input without a jframe and calling swing.

    1. Does scanner still work in JDK1.6?Try it and see. (Hint: the 1.6 documentation for the class says "Since: 1.5")
    If you get behaviour that doesn't fit with what you expect it to do, post your code and a description of our expectations.
    2. Are scanner and console essentially the same thing?No.
    Scanner is a class that provides methods to break up its input into pieces and return them as strings and primitive values. The input can be a variety of things: File InputStream, String etc (see the Scanner constructor documentation). The emphasis is on the scanning methods, not the input source.
    Console, on the other hand, is for working with ... the console. What the "console" is (and whether it is anything) depends on the JVM. It doesn't provide a lot of functionality (although the "masked" password input can't be obtained easily any other way). In terms of your task it will provide a reader associated with the console from which you can create a BufferedReader and proceed as you are at the moment. The emphasis with this class is the particular input source (and output destination), not the scanning.

    do anyone had any idea on this.
    Thanks a lot,
    RR.

    try checking relevant environment variables like the CLASSPATH.... a major source of failures in Windows is when in the classpath there is a path containing SPACES.... also enabling some "debug" or "verbose" flag (not sure how to do it) would provide more insight...

  • How to display the contents of a text file on the command line?

    I realize I need to utilize classes from the java.io.* package, but I don't know which ones to use exactly. This is what I would like to do in a nutshell:
    public static void main(String[] args) throws IOException {
    File inputFile = new File( <path to the file>);
    // code that reads data from the above file and is able to
    // append it to  a string object or display it on the command
    // line (System.out.println)
    }Thanks for your time!

    It's pretty easy. Here's a little example that reads a file, stores it in a string, and prints it to the command line.
    import java.io.*;
    public class OpenFile {
         public static void main(String args[]) {
              try {
                   File fileToOpen = new File("something.txt");
                   FileReader fileIn = new FileReader(fileToOpen);
                   BufferedReader br = new BufferedReader(fileIn);
                   String fileContent = new String();
                   String line;
                   while ((line = br.readLine()) != null) {
                        fileContent += line + "\n";
                   System.out.println(fileContent);
                   br.close();
              catch (IOException e) {
                   System.out.println("Exception: " + e);
    }Good luck,

    I tried accessing the ExecuteQueueRuntime mbean from the command line but nothing ever comes back.I am able to retrieve configuration mbeans without errors.
    Do I need to create the runtime mbeans before I can use them ?
    Or I need to invoke these commands via server code only?
    Thanks.

    Can you post the command you are using? I just tried this and seems to work.
