Java to SAP career prospects

Hi Experts,
I need small suggestion from you all regarding my Career . I  am a programmer in Java having around 6 years of experience. I want to step into SAP for better career prospects and survival in volatile market condition. Will it be worthwhile to learn any SAP module and will there be any better prospects because of that. I worked on Java, JSP, EJB, Struts.. etc, in financial domain. Which module in SAP should I get into. I have also come to know about Enterprise Portal. Would it be better to learn EP or to switch to some module in SAP and what would be the career prospects if I learn some SAP module.
I would also like to know what would be the career prospects for Java Professionals ?
Would learning of some SAP module benefits me ?
Thanks in advance. Waiting for your valuable suggestions.

  • Career Prospects in SAP xMII

    Hi All,
    I want few suggestions from you guys. I am basically a Java Professional. I have 2 years experience in Java, and now, I have been working in SAP xMII for only 1 n half months. I find xMII very interesting. Can anybody please tell me about the career prospects in xMII? I am thinking of proceeding in this line. Do you people find this as a sensible decision? If yes, then how should I proceed? Any kind of suggestion or information regarding this is most welcome.
    Thanks in Advance,
    Lipsa.

    I agree with Ryan - I see lots of demand for xMII skills, and the product is pushed considerably by SAP - I see a reference to xMII in every second SAP PowerPoint presentation (ok, maybe that's a slight exaggeration...)
    I also think that some knowledge/proficiency in the technologies surrounding xMII will be very useful. Some examples of this in the SAP space could include XI/PI, Enterprise Portal, ERP, CAF, Visual Composer, etc. Some understanding of MES concepts and products would also be useful.
    In my opinion, a broad knowledge of the above would help since xMII is an integration product and thus has touch points to a variety of other (non-SAP) systems...
    But I guess a lot depends on how xMII is implemented...

  • Career prospects in SAP SD

    Hi, after a long and tiring career of around 12 years in teaching as associate professor, I'm thinking of taking up more challenging careers in industry. I'm considering doing SAP SD and I'm worried about career prospects. Would anyone advise me if I'm correct in this kind of thinking...i.e., doing SAP at this age and time, would it be like risking or OK for me to move ahead? What things should I keep in mind in selection of course, institute etc for doing SAP. Pl. advise keeping my profile in picture.

    Hi Sandeep,
    I would like to give you some brief of SAP job market in India. It will help you to do further analysis and take a decision.
    For a job as an SAP SD consultant, the requirments are 2 yrs(minimum) of domain (sales) experience and some good (may be 3 yrs of hands on with SAP SD.
    The domain exp part is not important if you are applying as a fresher (the fresher needs to be SAP certified , else no chance in India)
    Am afraid, your teaching exp, even if its in marketing or sales, may not be considered (even financial product sales/ or sales in banking industry is not attractive here).
    Coming to hand on exp in SAP, its very important to have it may be as a trainee, some project work, end user etc..
    So now, you can analyse the situation and decide on what you have to do. Age may not be a constraint in this field, but you have to consider how much time, money and efort u can spend.

  • Career Prospects In SAP SCM

    Hi everybody,
    I am working in freight forwarding industry and having experience of more then 10 Years in various department right from documentation to sales. I have worked with shipping lines, Inland Container depot and freight forwarders. To enhance my skills and giving it a technical edge i want to do a training in SAP SCM. As I don't have any exposure to SAP except doing some documentation work on SAP based Shipping Lines.
    I need your valuable suggestions on how should I go about it. Can I go for classroom learning directly or i need to have some experience with SAP based organizations prior to that.
    What are the career prospects in SAP SCM.
    Regards
    Akanksha

    Hi Akanksha,
    i have done my Engineering from L.N.C.T . Indore. I know indore and its market, i don't think you will get any good training at Indore, so you have to move either Bangaluru, Pune/Mumbai or at Delhi NCR.
    As at Bengaluru you will get tough competition with fellow SCM employee, so not suggested.
    SCM market is good but its a domain specific , as i don't know much more about SCM , so just posting some useful links, from where you can gain knowledge. SCM market is consistent as far as i know, so take a foot ahead for a new begining, you will surely get what you wants .

  • Career Prospect for SAP IS OIL

    Hi Dear Community Members,
    I need your valuable suggestions and insight before I move on to the Oil & Gas Industry.
    I had a IT Degree and I am in the IT industry for 10 years. I am now planning to venture into the Oil & Gas Industry as this industry has an overall promising career & a job security. Therefore I had the initiative to take on the SAP IS OIL Module hoping to break into the O&G Industries, however I am unsure how SAP IS OIL has an overall impact to the Oil & Gas Sector, like :
    What is the current market share for Oil Companies using SAP Solutions and SAP IS Module?
    What are the career prospects for a SAP OIL Consultant? In terms of job stability and future career path
    What are the markets in the US, UK and Europe for SAP IS OIL? As I am planning to migrate there.
    I am looking forward to your kind advice and input. Thank you very much in advance.
    Cheers,
    Gary

    Hi Gary,
    Overall if you want to be in SAP IS-Oil, one or more of the following skill is required:
    SAP PRA
    SAP JVA
    SAP PSA/PSE
    SAP Controlling
    SAP Finance
    Second: Its always good if you have process experience in Oil & Gas - Upstream, Downstream or Midstream comanies. If you have not then its desirable that you have some process experience as you will feel the need of it when you are learing the above module. Without knowing the modules it is a challenge.
    Third: Demand of IS- Oil is good and not bad however this is focussed in specific locations around the world like : US-Texas- Houston (Energy Hub), Canada, Middle east etc.
    Fourth: Considering the fact that oil prices are down now, it will probably take 6 months to 1 year time for the boom to come. so probably this is not same time to venture immediately but learning this for near futute might prove beneficial.
    Thanks & Regards
    Subhasish

  • I am planning to have career change from JAVA to SAP

    I am having 4+ yrs experience in JAVA.Now i thought of shifting to SAP.
    Is it apt to shift to SAP?If yes which module is recommended in SAP.

    Kalpana,
    You're in luck. SAP has it's own JAVA programming environment. Your programming skills are directly transferable. You just need to take a class on SAP's programming environment and get certified. See the link below to see the courses offered
    https://training3.sap.com/us/en/curriculum/nw_java_dev_na-development-associateprofessional-java-with-sap-netweaver-70-g-en
    There's a more detailed curriculum at the following link, but it's probably overkill
    https://training3.sap.com/us/en/curriculum/java_na-java-programming-courses-g-en
    The links above are for the US, but the classes/information should be the same in India. The only problem is that in India, you have to go through a authorized training center and they're going to want you to pay for all of the training up front. Also, they're probably going to want to run you through the ABAP programming curriculum first, which you don't need if you're happy being a JAVA programmer.
    Hope that helps!
    Best regards,
      --Tom

  • What is BW and how is the career prospect for BW?

    Hi All I am Navin and I am in the BPO sector and decided to shift to SAP BW and I don't know anything about programming. I am interested in joining in BW and want to know about the career prospects in that. Experts please advice me!!!!!!

    Hi  Navin,
    Unfortunately, as I found out, everything in SAP requires coding to solve problems which are unique to each customer requirement.
    The applications are configurable by clicking. But these are always limited by the functionality of configurability. Coding is always necessary for any bw consultant. In fact, many customer requirements can only be met by coding. So if you are thinking of clicking here and there to work as bw consultant, then I am afraid I have bad news for you.
    Its all about coding.
    You can still be a bw consultant not doing any coding and leave it to a developer to do that but then, you will soon become obsolete as the developer will learn what you know as you tell them your requirement. Learning to click here and there is simple.
    To make yourself a valuable consultant , you must do the coding like BAPIs and Start Routines and Update Rules and Function modules and ..... in fact, BW developer is about an Abapper + BW configuration + functional consultant + BPX.
    Come to think of it, BW consultants should be valued more.
    Hope this helps a bit.

  • Error while connecting for Java to SAP

    Hi All,
    I am encountering the following error while connecting from Java to SAP through JCO:

  • What contents we can include under JAVA with SAP NetWeaver 7.0?

    hi friends,
    i want to know about JAVA with SAP NetWeaver 7.0.
    whether it covers only java programming or java-WebDynpro,portal and many more?
    can somebody give details on this?
    i have worked on java-WebDynpro,portal.is that enough to get certification on JAVA with SAP NetWeaver 7.0-Associate  C_JAVA_70?
    please provide me details.
    thanks
    Nutan.

    Hi Rajesh,
    I cleared this certification last year. Go through the syllabus mentioned. In our time there were 13 different sections e.g NWDI, EJBs, WD etc which had multiple choice qs and u need to click on the radio button for that.
    How to prepare.
    Go through the topics and course books mentioned in the syllabus well. U should be clear with all the basics especially EJBs and NWDI, lot many qs asked from these. WedDynpro qs are basically easy.if u dnt have books chk sdn and help site fot the topics.Qs chk your understanding of the content. They come from syllabus but are not direct and multiple choice make it difficult to answer.
    How to answer the questions.
    Chk every option in case of mutiple choice. Mark only those options which u are full confident and den if more than 50% confident bcoz we heard there were -ve markings although not sure how they calculated marks.
    Is any sample test program is there?
    There are no sample test program for this.
    All D Best for the certification.
    Regards
    Priyanka

  • IDOC data transfer SAP to Java using SAP JCo

    Dear Experts,
              The challenging requirement we are having is, we need to create the interface for data transfer between SAP system and the Java system. The data will be transferred from SAP to java and similarly once some processing done in Java again the details needs to be transferred from Java to SAP.
                 For this data transferred we are planning to use IDOC process and for interface "SAP Java connector" we are planning to use. In this case we are having some doubts.
    1. The data from SAP is going to be transfered from one Custom transaction (Z tcode). Once  "Outbound IDOC" will get triggered and will carry the details. Now the doubt is, whether the data / details will get transfered to JAVA system automatically or we need to perform any other steps from SAP ABAP coding...(like converting in to flat file, XML file and etc) ??
    2. We are planning to install "SAP Jco" in Java server. Is this correct...??
    3. Other than SAP Jco any other softwares needs to be installed or not..??
    4. Since we are going to trigger the "outbound IDOC" from custom transaction, we are planning to develope one program in SE37. Other than this any other program we need to develop or not..??
    If anybody has detailed steps or explanation please share it with us.
    Warm Regards,
    VEL

    Hi All,
      For the above mentioned issue, we implemented JCo software in JAVA system and created the JAVA program including SAP logon credential details like Client, User name, password and Language details.
    When this JAVA program was compiled successfully then, that non SAP system will appear in SAP gateway Tcode.
    Once non SAP system started appearing in SAP gateway that means, both SAP & Non SAP are connected automatically.

  • XML data file links java and sap

    Hi ,
    Please help me this
    How to connect xml file to java into sap
    please send me sample scenario.
    in java i call the this sap function module  'BAPI_MAT_BOM_EXISTENCE_CHECK'.
    1. Check BOM existence with BAPI_MAT_BOM_EXISTENCE_CHECK
    2. Exit BOM diff if BOM doesn’t exist
    3. Read BOM structure with CSAP_MAT_BOM_READ
    4. Compare SAP BOM items incl. subitems to XML BOM items and subitems

    currently I use following methods tu opload and to transfor the xml into a string.
    * Method to create XML from data file
      CALL METHOD instance->import_from_file
        EXPORTING
          filename = gf_filename
        RECEIVING
          retcode  = ch_retcode.
    * Convert into XML-Stream
      CALL METHOD instance->render_2_string
    *  EXPORTING
    *    pretty_print = 'X'
        IMPORTING
        retcode      = ch_retcode
          stream       = lf_string .
    *    size         = .
    When I use read dataset the output of the xml is into an internal table where I have many lines depending on the XML data file, this means if my xml has 10lines the internal table of read dataset has also 10 lines but I need a string to make the transformation of the xml.

  • Java and SAP in the next years ?

    Hello,
    Is it a good thing to begin to develop around SAP in Java currently ?
    It has been said that it will not be supported if i'm not mistake.
    Thanks,
    Smoltok

    Hi
    Java is a Platform independent technology so that it can be used by all the system, ERP like SAP need to communicate with
    different type of system and nedd to handle huge set of data. For this Java is a power full language hence Java is used in SAP. J2ee has a huge number of Design patters wich will help to solve the archeture problem easily.
    SAP netweaver is mostly build on Java engine only. So the combination of SAP and Java will be success for next Years
    but People say ABAP  is going to replace JAVA in SAP, But as of its quite impossibel because ABAP is mainly ment for Data processing.
