Java update cannot be installed..
I'm having a problem and can't seem to find anyone else with the same issue. Hopefully, someone can point out what the problem is.
I'm trying to silent install jre-1_5_0_02-windows-i586-p.exe with instructions I found here:
http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4.2/docs/guide/plugin/developer_guide/silent.html
In my batch file I'm using the following syntax:
Start /w C:\Drivers\Software\Java\jre-1_5_0_02-windows-i586-p.exe /s /v"/qn ADDLOCAL=ALL IEXPLORER=1 NETSCAPE6=1 MOZILLA=1 REBOOT=Suppress JAVAUPDATE=0 WEBSTARTICON=0"During the install process I receive this error:
Java update cannot be installed on this machine because the directory you have chosen to install is locked.
Please close and browser or application that is using the directory you have chosen for installation. If I hit the 'RETRY' button it continues installation just fine. Any ideas what is causing this error?
As a long shot I removed the JAVAUPDATE=0 but, it still had the same problem.
TIA
-Kirk
I got the same problem when I was just doing a regular install. After struggling for a few days and following the idea that something else must be using an older JVM, I tried this:
I closed all the non-native windows applications. Some of these were running in the background. The culprit was Google desktop search!!
Once I closed google (by right clicking the icon and exit-ing), the Java installation process went smoothly.
I think this concept would work for you. It is either google desktop or some other application that is running in the background that is using an older JVM.

Java Update Cannot be installed, directory locked
When attempting to install J2SE SDK 1.5.0 on my WINNT4 SP6a sustem,
it appears to almost complete, and then, when Finishing Installation, shows
a Retry/Cancel window saying, "Java Update cannot be installed on this machine
because the directory your have chosen is locked. Please close any browsers or
applications that are using the directory you chose for installation", or words very
close to those quoted. Nothing else is running. I rebooted the machine prior to
beginning the install.I too have the same error after an systray auto update came up and I said yes to install v5.0 or something, and said the above locked message, I closed all apps, and pressed retry, didn't install.
I am running winxp with ALL latest windowsupdate patches.
At least microsoft installers don't have any weird problems like this, and I now dont know how to reinstall it, because it appeared from my system tray as an update notification. -
I have a Toshiba laptop, Windows & Home Premium Edition operating system. I had FF 3.6.3 installed and up until 6:00 today it was sort of working properly. I find out later that my huasband cannot even open the browser, as every time he does, a dialog box opens up whcih says "UPdate cannot be installed. Please make sure no other copies of FF are running on computer, then restart FF to try again." But I do not have any other copies of FF. I really do not like it when FF auto installs stuff without my permission. Many times this stuff is downloaded and installed, only to raise havoc with my computer.

Hi.
When trying to install "JUnit Integration 11.1.2.1.38.60.81" I got this message:
"The JUnit Integration update cannot be installed because it has a required licence agreement that could not be read. Click Back to remove this update."
I want to install from a local file junit_bundle.zip.
Thanks for help
Stefan PongratzStefan, I guess you have to have an internet connection if you want to install it from the local junit_bundle.zip. During the install it loads the licence from the web. If it can't access the file you get the error you see.
You can try to download the licence into the same directory where you have stored the bundle, but I'm not sure jdev looks for it there.

I keep getting an error, and the Java Update will not install. What can I do?
Never mind. I kept trying, and finally when I opened "About This Mac" and clicked the software update from there (as opposed to the "Software Update" just below), the Java update finally worked.

I just downloaded the newest update for mountain lion. After downloading any restarting for installation, I got a message stating that the update cannot be installed due to an error. Yet when I check I have version 10..8.3 and safari version 6.0.3, which the update was for. Does this mean that the update is iinstalled and the message was incorrect?

Good timing! Oh well, at least you shouldn't have to update again for a while. It will be nice kickstarting your Mac with the very latest System Update knowing any hiccups from 10.8.2 would have been ironed out if they were going to affect your workflow at all.
Cheers and Happy Computing

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad and start typing the name.
The title of the Console window should be All Messages. If it isn't, select
SYSTEM LOG QUERIES ▹ All Messages
from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar at the top of the screen.
Click the Clear Display icon in the toolbar. Then try the installation again. Select any messages that appear in the Console window. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-V.

Using JDeveloper 11.1.1.6.0 when trying to install "JUnit Integration 11.1.1.6.38.61.92" I got this message:
"The JUnit Integration update cannot be installed because it has a required licence agreement that could not be read. Click Back to remove this update.
Details: Got status code 400 from URL http://htmldb.oracle.com/pls/otn/META-INF/ibmcpl.html "
see also the screenshot

In the Check for Update wizard in JDeveloper the Update Center "Official Oracle Extension and Updates"
mentions http://htmldb.oracle.com/pls/otn/f?p=updatecenter:uc
that redirected to http://www.oracle.com/ocom/groups/public/@otn/documents/webcontent/131167.xml
where at http://www.oracle.com/ocom/groups/public/@otn/documents/webcontent/131167.xml#oracle.jdeveloper.junit
there is a link to

download at http://download.oracle.com/otn-pub/jdeveloper/11.1.1.6.0/extensions/junit_bundle.zip
But it seems possible to use the junit_bundle.zip file to Install From Local File (using the Check for Update wizard in JDeveloper 11.1.1.6.0 ).

Looking into it right now and should have it fixed in less then an hour

HI
I had installed mountain lion on my MBP 13" early 2012, but it has lots of issue, when i tryed to up date to 10.8.1 it shows the error "OS X update cannot be installed on this disk. This volume does not meet the requirements for this update"
if i run the software update nothis is showing, current os version is 10.8This did not work for me.
Note, that at one point the Apple developer knew exactly what the problem was and decided not to let us know. If we were tole what the problem was we woud have an idea of how to proceed. -

Java Update - After deployed install and settings
Hi there,
In our managed Windows 2000 environment with Windows XP Pro clienst (SP2) we use Active directory to deploy software packages.
We are currently trying to install J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 5, which works perfectly. We have made a transform file for giving answers to the MSI file of the Runtime Environment.
In the tranform file we have specified as wel that "Java Update" will be disabled after installation. This works well, too. After deploying the package, however, we notice that when a user logs on onto the workstation, a message is diplayed on screen, asking the user whether or not he want to re-enable the Java Update mechanism.
Is there a way (e.g. by a registry key, or another MST adaptation) to prevent this message?
Another question: is it possible to set the "Temporary Files", "Jar compression" level and several security settings like "Warn if certificate authority can not be verified" via registry keys or within a transform file?
Any help would be kindly appreciated.
Regards,
Sander.I don't know what happened, but AFAICT, you did the job wrongly. I suggest redoing it this way (TM help files) and not worrying about fixing the mucked up system:
+*To revert to a previous version of Mac OS X:*+
+1. Insert the Mac OS X installation disc in your computer’s optical drive (or an optical drive connected to your computer).+
+2. Double-click on Install Mac OS X+
+3. When the Language Chooser appears, select your language, and then click the Continue button (looks like an arrow).+
+4. Choose Utilities->Restore System From Backup.+
+5. In the Restore Your System dialog, click Continue.+
+6. Select your Time Machine backup disk.+
+7. Select the Time Machine backup you want to restore. To restore your computer to the state it was in before you erased it, choose the most recent backup.+
+8. Follow the onscreen instructions.+
Alternatively, if the SuperDuper! backup was a bootable one of your previous installation, restore it. That's better and faster than mucking with the TM restoration procedure above. -
Java Update does not install latest build
Kind of an odd bug I suppose: Java Update only installs up to build 6, even though build 7 is listed on the site. It's possible that the latest build hasn't been placed on the update servers yet, though personally I think there's a problem with Java update itself. It doesn't seem to need to sequentially install the builds either (though, what developer does that anymore?) as after updating to build 6, Java Update stated that it was the latest version.
A month is too long to have failed updates, ellencav. I know you mentioned you have a Samsung Galaxy 3. Can you clarify if you have the Note 3 or galaxy S 3? Was a warranty replacement offered through Verizon tech support? This way, as long as you met the terms of the warranty, a replacement would be shipped to you and the defective device would be shipped back.
