Java - Windows API

Hi, I'm new to Java. I have little experience with C/C++. I'm interesting is it possible to call functions such as
LineTo and MoveToEx which are specific to Microsoft Windows. I've written recently program that uses MFC and basically calculates points and then display on the screen. Now I want to make same program as Java Applet and put it on web site.
Do you have and advices how to "translate" my existing program to Java applet in minimum time. What is equivalents of LineTo, MoveToEx and other API functions in Java.
Thanks for help!

Here are some resources on applets and Swing:

  • About Java Communication API for Windows

    hi
    I'm studying Serial Communication in university.
    I'd like to know the reason why we can't downlaod Java Communication API for Windows.
    I confirmed Comm for Linux and Soralis, but I can't find Comm for Win.
    Please tell me the reason if someone know.

    For no particular reason Sun stopped supporting the windows version
    of that package. I use rxtx which happens to allow for much faster
    communication too.
    The interface is identical to Sun's version, just the package differs: "gnu.io".
    kind regards,

    Is there a way to invoke Windows APIs in Java??? Please help......Thankx

    Short answer, you don't. However, you should look at Java Native Interface (JNI) very closely. It will allow you to wrap the Win32 API calls so that Java can call your wrapper methods. Another side to it, although not necessarily related to your question is a JavaBeans to COM bridge that you may want to look into as well, though it's probably not going to be a solution for what you're wanting to do right now.

  • String "iso-8859-1" found in subject line of java mail API(when German char

    We have written a mail client using java mail API and it works fine. Some body sends the email with subject line contains German chars(using some other mail client like outlook)
    and our mail client is running on the machine whose Local has been set 'German'.
    Now, while getting the subject line
    Javax.mail.Message email; //local variable
    // some how I am intializing email.
    String str = email.getSubject();
    the value of str returns "Bitte die 4 Items Ischen. Kein Bedarf. Ich kann die=?iso-8859-1?Q?_L=F6schung_nic?="
    but actual value subject line was "Bitte die 4 Items Ischen. Kein Bedarf. Ich kann die Lschung nic"
    So '' char was repalced by some arbit chars.
    Moreover, Charset.defaultCharset().name() returns 'windows-1252'
    Please suggest me how I can get the actual subject line

  • Java Communications API and Java SDK 1.4.2

    I just installed the Java Communications API 2.0 on my Windows XP system, with JDK 1.4.2. As per the install instructions, I copied files from the zip into my /lib and /bin directories and set the classpath. However, when I attempt to compile any of the samples, the compiler displays a large number of errors. I know the API documentation only references JDK1.2 -- are there any special tricks to installing on newer JDKs, or will I need to acquire an older JDK to develop?

    My path variable is still not being set! Here is the content of my autoexec.bat located on the root directory of C:\
    rem - By Groove Setup
    PATH=%PATH%;"C:\Program Files\Groove Networks\Groove\Bin"
    PATH=%PATH%;C:\PROGRAM FILES\J2SDK1.4.2_07\BIN
    /code]
    When I type 'path' at the MSDOS C:\ prompt, I receive the following in the get the following:C:\WINDOWS;C:\WINDOWS\COMMAND;\C:\PROGRAM FILES\GROOVE NETWORKS\GROOVE\BIN
    As an aside, I noticed that when I perform a search of the my hard drive (c:\), I find two autoexec.bat files. One at the root, and the other in C:\Windows\Command\EBD.
    I believe the instructions stated to modify the autoexec.bat at the root directory.
    TIA for any assistance. This is really becoming a nusance and taking up quite a bit of my time trying to resolve this problem.

  • Practical use of Java Logging API

    There was a recent technical tip about the Java Logging API, but after reading it I still don't understand how to use it in a real situation.
    Can anyone help me with this with a practical example?
    At the moment I have try-catch clauses that catch exceptions and print a message in a System.err log that I can consult if there's a specific problem.
    How should I be using the Logging API? I feel sure that it can help me, but can't see how.
    Thanks for any practical information.

    What if you don't want to write to system.err anymore? What if you need to write something to the windows event log? What if system.err is irrelevant (nt service), ...
    Btw, lots of examples on the JDK1.4 logging api:

  • Java Preferences api jndi / jdbc implementations?

    We have a requirement to save users gui layout preferences (swing client) in a central location (through a j2ee ejb container). the users should be allowed to log into any company workstation, and have the gui client come up with the users preferences restored.
    does anyone know of commercial or open source implementations of the java preferences api that might accomplish this? (hoping not to re-invent...)
    Thanks
    Joe e.

    I am sure this is not a difficult thing to implement, you might actually spend more time looking for open source implementations rather than do it on your own. I am sure you want to save things like window/frame positions, size, colours, look and feel etc. You can simply save this information in a property file/object. Just any idea...

  • Deploying Java Comm API

    Hi,
    I am developing an applet which uses Java Comm API. I'm running into some deployment issue. My understanding is that Java Comm API needs to have win32com.dll and javax.comm.properties files installed on the client machine for my applet to use Comm API. Is there a way around this? The ideal way will be to have everything (win32com.dll and javax.comm.properties) in a jar file so that it doesn't need to install any file on the client machine. However looking at previous posts, I don't think that's possible with Java Plug-in. Will I be able to utilize Java WebStart to accomplish this? I'll be interested to find how other people deploy Java Comm API. Thanks in advance.
    Regards,
    Joy

    Ive developed a solution to this problem. I created a class that creates the javax.comm.properties file where the comm.jar lib looks for it. The trick is to run the method that creates the file before the lib looks for it.
    I show you the example of my code:
    import java.io.BufferedWriter;
    import java.io.File;
    import java.io.FileWriter;
    import java.io.IOException;
    public final class PrinterInit {
        public static void printerInit(){
            String archivoConf =
                System.getProperty("java.home") + File.separator + "lib" +
                File.separator + "javax.comm.properties";
            try {
                BufferedWriter out = new BufferedWriter(new FileWriter(archivoConf));
                out.write(
                    "#"+ "\n" +
                    "# Drivers loaded by the Java Communications API standard extension"+ "\n" +
                    "# at initialization time "+ "\n" +
                    "# "+ "\n" +
                    "# Format: "+ "\n" +
                    "#   Each line must contain ONE driver definition only "+ "\n" +
                    "#   Each line must be of the form: "+ "\n" +
                    "#           driver=<ClassName> "+ "\n" +
                    "#       No spaces or tabs in the line. "+ "\n" +
                    "#       ClassName must implement the interface javax.comm.CommDriver "+ "\n" +
                    "#           example: driver=Win32Serial"+ "\n" +
                    "#   "+ "\n" +
                    "#"+ "\n" +
                    "# The hash(#) character indicates comment till end of line."+ "\n" +
                    "#"+ "\n" +
                    "# Windows Serial Driver"+ "\n" +
                    "Driver=com.sun.comm.Win32Driver" + "\n");
                out.close();
            } catch (IOException e) {
                System.err.println("No se pudo crear el archivo:" + "javax.comm.properties");
                System.err.println("Ruta completa:" + archivoConf);
    }Before opening the port I call
    PrinterInit.printerInit();This example writes de javax.comm.properties file needed for a windows implementation. You can change the value of the Driver property for the system you are using.
    Good Luck!

  • Java - Windows communication

    Hi everyone,
    I am a newbie for Sun. I have assigned to research the way for Windows - Java communication.
    Our project has been developed by C++. Now, we need to build a component by Java and this component is accessible by C++. I search in the internet and find that I need to use Java Communication API and RxTx as the bridge between Java Communication API <-> RxTx <-> Windows.
    In .NET, there is an option to allow a .NET dll compiled as COM visible. I wonder whether Java supports the same functionality as .NET. If yes, could anyone give me some tips to do?
    Thanks, for your help.

    In .NET, there is an option to allow a .NET dll compiled as COM visible. I wonder whether Java supports the same functionality as .NET. If yes, could anyone give me some tips to do?The official (Sun specified) way for communicating between Java and native code is called JNI (Java Native Interface). Check it out. You may also want to take a look at JNA.
    They both allow calls between Java and native, but nothing to do with COM.

  • How to use Java Mail API in Unix

    I am trying to write some code using Java mail API. I want to execute it in Unix. I downloaded the mail API to windows machine and ftped the mail.jar file to a Unix machine. Then I set the class path as below:
    export CLASSPATH=$CLASSPATH:/home.../mail.jar
    Then I tried to compile my Java program. The output is as below:
    error: error reading /home.../mail.jar; invalid END header (bad central directory offset)
    mail.java:1: package javax.mail does not exist
    import javax.mail.*;
    Can any one please help me out.

    You should also include the "activation.jar" file that you obtained from
    downloading the Java Activation Framework, in your CLASSPATH.
    For example:
    export CLASSPATH=$CLASSPATH:/urPath/activation/activation.jar
    Besides, assuming you unzipped javamail-1_4_1.zip in home/download the following should work
    export CLASSPATH=$CLASSPATH:home/download/javamail-1.4.1/mail.jar:.

    yes, the command created .keystore file, but how to specify a command known by the java control panel?
    or how to make known the keystore to the java control panel?
