JavaHelp Installation

Hi,
I'd like to use javahelp in my application but im pretty much clueless. I just downloaded the 2.0_05 release and extracted it but i can't make any sense of these directions:
* Create the JHHOME environment variable that contains the path to the folder in which you installed the JavaHelp software.
* Make sure that the JDK\bin folder or JRE executable is in your execution path.
* The latest changes to JavaHelp 2.0_05 are documented in the README contained within the download
Once i get those steps down how would i encorporate it into my program?
thanks

Hi,
Please write which operating system (Windows, Solaris, Linux) you are using.
In order to add JavaHelp system to your application:
Place jhall.jar archive somewhere in the CLASSPATH of your application.
This is a very simple code that launch JavaHelp Viewer:
public static void main(String[] args) {
     HelpSet hs;
     HelpBroker hb;
         //Create a URL for the location of the help set
         try {
           URL hsURL = HelpSet.findHelpSet(null, "javahelpfiles/jhelpset.hs");
             hs = new HelpSet(null, hsURL);
         } catch (Exception ee) {
             // Print info to the console if there is an exception
             System.out.println( "HelpSet " + ee.getMessage());
             return;
         // Create a HelpBroker object for manipulating the help set
         hb = hs.createHelpBroker();
         //Display help set
         hb.setDisplayed(true);
     }Regards,
Stanley

  • JavaHelp installer is broken!

    Ok, I've noticed a few other posts on this topic, so I can only conclude that there are problems with the JavaHelp installer, as I'm experiencing them as well.
    I'm running windows 2000, and have downloaded the file "javahelp1_1-win-no_rt.exe".
    When I do the install, first it has a very strange default location (somewhere in my personal temp folder).
    Then, it never finds my installed JDK, I always have to enter it myself.
    Next, if I want to change the program group icon that it's installed under, it won't let me do that either.
    MOST IMPORTANTLY, the install doesn't work. Sure, the files are written, but there's no icons anywhere, and no file associations are set up for me (I can't double-click the .jh files to view them). When I try to run the help system by double-clicking the .bat file, it simply does nothing (very quick exit).
    And finally (least important but most annoying), when "finished" it says "Click the Done button", but I can't click the Done button (it appears to be ignoring mouse-clicks or something)..
    Has anyone run into these problems before? I could use some help in doing a proper install (i.e. what do I need to do to get this working that the installer should've done for me in the first place?)...
    Dave

    Hi,
    I also had serious problems with the installer from javahelp1_1-win-no_rt.exe on Windows 2000 server. The installer extracts the files in the temp folder and then generates an error and exits - leaving 9 megabytes of its trash behind in my temp folder.
    My solution was to install javahelp1_1-win-rt.exe, which installs properly.
    You can then remove the jre if you want to. Delete the folder C:\Program Files\jh1.1\jre, and then change the path to your other runtime environment in 8 files with extension .lax (2 located in C:\Program Files\jh1.1\javahelp\bin and 6 located in C:\Program Files\jh1.1\demos\bin). The parameter is called lax.nl.current.vm.

  • How can I do the load test for EBS 11i

    Dear Suport
    I start to try OATS.
    I have used a Openscript to record the functional test and it works fine for EBS 11i.
    However, I cannot directly use the script from Functional Test. Is there have any ways to convert the Functional Testing script to Load Testing script?
    Since the fail of using functional script, I create a new Load Testing script in Openscript and record what I do in functional test. However, I got the below error when I record the script.

  • Need JavaHelp Solaris package to go with JDK 1.5 installation

    [Sorry - I had posted this in another forum before finding this forum...  Hope someone here can help...  Thanks!]
    Hi,
    I've installed the JRE component of JDK 1.5.0_20 on a Solaris 9 SPARC system, but it looks like that broke SMC. I think I found a solution here:
    http://forums-beta.sun.com/thread.jspa?threadID=559144&tstart=105
    but the problem is that I cannot find the JavaHelp package that is correct for JDK 1.5.
    Apparently the older tar.Z was on some CDs previously, but I downloaded the JavaHelp 2.0.5 tar.Z, but when I try to pkgadd the SUNWjhrt package from that, it says that it has a prerequisite of "JS2E 1.6 Runtime" (whereas I've installed J2SE 1.5).
    I've searched various places, but I cannot find a tar.Z with the correct JavaHelp packages.
    Does anyone know where I might be able to download that?
    Thanks,
    Jim

    Hi,
    I think that I was able to figure out what to do. When I did the pkgadd for SUNWjhrt, I just responded "y" to the warning about 1.6, and that pkgadd and the other 3 pkgadds seemed to work ok.

    I think you may have gotten confused with the installation guide.
    If you're installing GRC, you should not be installing SOA or other components. There are 2 applications you can install from that distribution, GRCC or EGRCM. EGRCM is the one that refers to SOA's if needed, so even then you shouldn't need to install it for testing out the product.
    I hope that helps!

  • Problem in viewing a converted JavaHelp (jar) file (created using RH2002 to RoboHelp X5)

    Hi,
    I have a javahelp project (compressed javahelp) created using
    RoboHelp 2002. The output files are jar files.
    The source files are .mpj. When I view the existing jar files
    without converting the project to .xpj I am able to view the jar
    files.
    However, this project needs to be upgraded to RHx5. During
    conversion(.mpj to .xpj) everything seems to be working fine and
    the javahelp files are generated. But when I try to view the jar
    files nothing is diplayed.
    I get the following error. Please see below.
    Has anybody come across anything similar? Is there anything I
    need to take care of before I upgrade to .xpj? I cannot locate the
    glo.xml file in RH.

    Hi Colum,
    Thanks for your reply.
    Yes, I have gone through the Peter Grainge's article. It is
    indeed very informative and I have installed the JDK and the JH
    according to the instructions given therein. My installation seems
    complete as the viewer works fine. The JDK version is 1.4.2_18 and
    the JH version is 2.0. The environment variables have also been set
    accordingly.
    All this while I was thinking it is a Java issue so I have
    tried out with different JDK versions.
    But now I think it can be a tool issue because :
    I can view the existing JavaHelp file with the current Java
    viewer.(if I do not open the project in X5)
    I can view Sun supplied sample jar files with the viewer.
    I can create new JavaHelp files with RHX5 and the current JDK
    and JH installation and view those files.
    I cannot view the JavaHelp file if I convert the .mpj to .xpj
    (the generate dialog works fine and says compilation is complete).
    The Display button does not display the file. The view
    command line command throws up the error mentioned in my earlier
    mail.
    Would appreciate any pointers.
    Best regards,
    Urmi

  • Where  tag libs related to JavaHelp can be downloaded?

    Where the JSP tag libs related to JavaHelp can be downloaded? .It was not available as part of JH2.0 downloadable.

    Thanks Ingo! I realized (while following your link) that my access profile was not containing enough roles to download the packages from the Marketplace. So, I have downloaded the installation package and installed the BusinessObjects SAP Integration Kit XI3.1. However, during the installation process I received the following error message (sorry if it is alredy the n-th time it is mentioned in this forum): "Error 1904. Module C:\Program Files\Business Objects\BusinessObjects Enterprise 12.0\win32_x86\CrystalExtension.dll failed to register. HRESULT -2147024769. Contact your support personnlel." And the buttons - Abort, Retry, Ignore. I have chosen Ignore and the installation has finished "successfully".
    But when I start Crystal Reports now, and I am trying to use the Open command on the SAP menu, Crystal Reports shuts down (and Windows starts looking for a "solution of the problem" - without any result, of course).
    Could this Crystal Reports shutdown be the result of that .dll registration error during the installation, or it is other known issue of the Integration Kit? Thanks a lot for any idea.

  • Installing JavaHelp in Websphere

    Hi!
    I'm trying to install a javahelp web application in websphere application server 5 and somehow it doesn't work!
    It's supposed to be a server based Javahelp, invoked by a JSP in a web application. I tried to call Javahelp using the following code:
    <jh:validate helpBroker="<%= helpBroker %>"
    helpSetName="/Help/PT/CpyProd.hs"/>
    <body onload="location='JavaHelp/help.jsp'">
    It works fine on Websphere test environment and on Tomcat4.1 but it can't compile the JSP on WAS!
    I supposed that it was a problem while finding the helpset and so, I tried to do this manually using the following code also in the JSP:
    <%
    java.net.URL hsURL = new java.net.URL("http://i2sseg.i2s.local:9080/I2SHelp/Help/PT/CpyProd.hs");
    javax.help.HelpSet hs = new javax.help.HelpSet(null, hsURL);
    helpBroker.setHelpSet(hs);
    %>
    I created manually the Helpset's URL but I have a problem creating the HelpSet. I get the folowing exception:
    [17-06-2004 14:39:16:909 UTC] 25e50d5f WebGroup E SRVE0026E: [Servlet Error]-[Could not parse]: javax.help.HelpSetException: Could not parse
    java/lang/Throwable.<init>(Ljava/lang/String;)V+4 (Throwable.java:85)
    java/lang/Exception.<init>(Ljava/lang/String;)V+1 (Exception.java:33)
    Once again, this works fine on websphere test environment and on tomcat... (and I used the exact same WAR fine on tomcat)
    I'm also using the same .hs in all installations so, there is no problem there
    I'm running out of ideas... can anyone help me with this?
    Thanx in advance
    Filipe Teixeira

    got rid of this exception for javahelp on websphere.
    Nested Exception is java.lang.RuntimeException: Could not parse
    Got an IOException (http://localhost:9081/http://localhost:9081/.ContextName/TaxCalculatorHelp/TaxCalculatorHelpSet.hs)
    Parsing failed for null
    I noted a few things in my scenario :
    If code below is used to get the URL of helpsetName with context ,
    response.encodeURL(request.getContextPath() + "/somefolder/hsName.hs") then it creates problem with jh:validate tag
    Using 'jh:validate' tag appends servername:portnumber to the fully formed helpset name, causes the wrongly formed URL of the helpset.
    So what we need is ONLY the 'context' name, which we don't get from request.getContextPath()  (cos it returns protocol, servername, portnumber , .. ) ..
    As I am doing it in Portlets , used renderRequest.getContextPath() that solves the purpose.
    hope it helps .
    have a good day !

  • How to install JavaHelp??

    Dear all,
    After compiling JavaHelp with RoboHelp for Word I get the
    following message:
    'Please install the latest version of JavaHelp'
    I tried a lot of things but I didn't succeeded.
    -copying the JH2.0 folder to many related dir's.
    -copying the content of JH.2.0 (BIN/LIB) to related dir's.
    -installing/reinstalling JDK, SDK, JRE...
    -reÔnstalling robohelp
    -attempt to define the necessary variables (PATH, JHHOME,...)
    Can someone tell me how to install JavaHelp properly?
    (PS I use word 2003)

    Hi Peter,
    Thank you for your quick response.
    Your website is not new for me. I tried to solve the problem
    by executing the 9 steps you describe:
    http://www.grainge.org/pages/authoring/javahelp/javahelp.htm...
    But unfortunately, without any luck.
    I don't know what the problem is, I guess maybe something
    with:
    -The location of the JavaHelp BIN and LIB folder. There is no
    executable, no installer? Where do I need to save these folders? Do
    I need to add them to another folder?
    -The environment variables: I created two new variables
    (JHHOME and JAVA_HOME). I added both of them to the PATH variable
    by adding something like: "%JHHOME%C:\SUN;" Is that correct?
    -Installation of the SDK folder?
    -Versions of the Java software? I installed: JDK1.6.0_03,
    JH2.0, JRE1.6.0_03

  • Distributing standard java extensions (i.e. Javahelp's jhall.jar)

    Hi,
    I wonder if anyone would be able to tell me how to distribute this jhall.jar file with my application (it is neccessary in order for my javahelp system to be viewed) . It needs to be installed in the jre/lib/ext directory in order to be effective.
    This must be a common occurance for developers as any extension must be dealt with like this, however, I am only a beginner in things such as deployment.
    I have been looking into Java Web Start...is this the way to go? If so, I wonder if someone could tell me (simply) how to go about this.
    Is there another way that might be easier to implement? All of the users should be on some form of UNIX, not Windows.
    Any clue and I would be over the moon,
    Thanks in advance,
    Clodagh

    Hi Clodagh,
    to add jhall.jar to the jar containing the application won't work. You could make a jar for your application and zip this jar together with jhall.jar into another zip file, so that the resulting zip file has two files:
    distribution.zip (contains...)
    yourApp.jar
    jhall.jar
    If you let a user download this zip the only requirement (apart from having java installed on the client) would be
    1. to unzip the zip file to an arbitrary directory and
    2. to start yourApp.jar
    With web start all this can be automated so that the user really just has to press a single link and all the rest is done by web start. You are right, the user has to have web start installed but web start is part of the JRE by default and a requirement for your app might be just to have JRE 1.4.1 or later...
    Certainly for web start a user needs a browser and a connection to the internet.
    If you would like to distribute an application without the above you still could use InstallAnywhere from ZeroG and build a setup package having your application and jhall.jar. With InstallAnywhere it is possible to even move jhall.jar to jre/lib/ext on the client upon installation.
    However, it takes much more effort to build such an installer package and it takes more maintenance effort later on too. As well, installer packages make up more cases on the client to take care of (all of which web start already deals with).
    I personally prefer the web start distribution and just require a user to have java installed (and certainly a browser). However, just to provide a zip file or an installer package might do as well.

Then had a problem with Google search, restored default values and re-tooled Firefox. At this point all worked fine. Then my url, address bar changed color to the same color as the program shell, a grey brown as opposed to the white it was before. With the change in color it no longer allows me to change the data showing in the bar. I can not delete or add data. I used to add a url and navigate to the domain. Now I can not

    Greetings,
    TY for the reply, the information was enlightening to be sure. I never knew safe mode was an option with Firefox. I have so many tasks running that I didn't want to shut things down. What I did is turn off some of the last plug-ins I installed. That did not fix the problem at least in the first look. What happened next was very interesting none the less. I had a moment of mouse spastic wrist syndrome and accidentally moved a tab in such a way that it opened in a new window. The URL bar was white and editable. So I moved all my tabs to the new window and everything works as it should. I have restarted Firefox this morning and it came back with the bar editable and I am speechless to understand what I may have done to correct the problem if anything ??

  • Installation problem with NW'04 SR1: database connection failed

    Hi all,
    while installing NW '04 SR1 on Windows Server 2003 SP1 and MS SQL Server 2000 SP4 I ran into an error related to the database connection. While performing the step "Load Java Database content" SAPinst crashes with the message
    com.sap.sql.log.OpenSQLException: Could not load class com.ddtek.jdbc.sqlserver.SQLServerDriver.
    The connection to the SLQ Server with e.g. the Query Analyzer is OK. I had a problem with this installation setup before (have a look at the corresponding <a href="https://forums.sdn.sap.com/thread.jspa?threadID=338638&tstart=0">thread</a> ), the JDBC drivers where missing on the installation master but after copying them in the right direction the installation went on with no problem up to this point...
    Has anybody an idea what could have happened here? Is this maybe a problem connected to the one I recently had
