JavaHelp preventing java shutdown...

I have a pretty strange problem. I have an application that uses SWT for all GUI stuff, except for JavaHelp which, of course, uses AWT/Swing.
As soon as I have had a JavaHelp window open, the application won't exit, the AWT thread hangs on exit.
If i start the app without opening help (even though i have created the help dialog, just not called setVisible(true) for it) it exits just fine, even though the AWT threads are running.
If I comment out the help dialog action (and therefore don't create any JavaHelp window) no AWT thread is created at all, so the only AWT components created are those created by JavaHelp.
Is there any good way to just force all java help components to die? I have tried to loop over all Windows gotten from Window.getWindows(), calling dispose on each and every one, but that didn't help. Also, since I have a lot of threads that need to stop gracefully, calling System.exit isn't really a good option...
Primary window gets never disposed (according to jhug.pdf), this is the reason. See here to check Swing behaviour.
You should find a way to get it and dispose it.
Otherwise adding a new event to the EventQueue to just stop the EDT may suffice (I never had such a problem).
If you can't figure out a JH solution you might try to ask in the Swing forum (I'd suggest waiting a couple of days in order to avoid cross-posting).

How to prevent java.util.logging from displaying pop-up dialog on SEVERE?

I'm new to using java.util.logging. I notice that whenever I try to make a call to logger.SEVERE(msg) or logger.WARNING(msg), not only does it write the output to file (which I want), but it also pops up a dialog box displaying the exception. I don't want this pop up to appear. How do I prevent the logger from doing this?What are you talking about?

How to prevent java mapping from reloading before each message?
Hi!!!
I've written a simple java mapping (XI 2.0): "Content Enricher" transformation
(source system doesn't send some key information required by target system).
It works fine.
Then I wanted to put some parametrization data into the database.
I added some code to load this data only once into my data structures in the memory.
I also works fine.
But the problem is that SAP XI uses MappingLoader/MappingResolver
to load jar file during transformation of every message.
In a such situation I lose all data and my code has to connect
to the database again (what is not good because of performance).
The question is:
how to configure SAP XI/where to put my code
to achieve a such behaviour: only once my code would load
parametrization from db and then "normal" java mapping could
use it during messages transformation without impact
on the performance?

Thanks for your answer, but I'm afraid that your solution: singleton pattern doesn't solve my problem.
When XI reload my java mapping classes, all loaded and kept data are lost. Singleton pattern can't prevent it.
I asked SAP about this problem: in XI 3.0 the classes will only be reloaded when a cache refresh has really taken place. But they won't implement this improved behaviour in XI 2.0.

Preventing java.lang.IllegalStateException

I get an IllegalStateException when I'm constructing a List component in my midlet class. In the middle of the List construction, another thread calls switchDisplayable(null, getAnotherWindow()) on the midlet.
What is the best way to prevent this? I was thinking of using a boolean "busy", which I'll set to true when entering the constructor and false when leaving it. Now on the other thread, before calling switchDisplay(null, getAnotherWindow()); it will do a while(busy) { thread.sleep(500)}.
What are your recommendations?

Bittorrent not closing down and preventing mac shutdown
Bittorrent is not closing down and when I try to shut down my mac it is prevented because bittorrent is still running. Does anyone know how I can over come this problem?
Press COMMAND-OPTION-ESC to open the Task Manager. Select BitTorrent in the list and click the Force Quit button. If that doesn't work. Open Activity Monitor in the Utilities folder, select the BitTorrent process in the process list then click on the Quit icon in the toolbar, then click on the Force Quit button.
If none of this works then hold down the Power button for 5-10 seconds and the computer will shutdown. Then you can restart. Running down the battery is not a good solution. -
Preventing Java updating and phonong home ?
I have been tasked with upgrading an existing working setup of many machines all with XP & Java 6u45, with new machines running Windows 7 Pro & Java 8. This will be a completely managed setup, which may or may net (depending on deployment) be connected to the Internet and Java versions that are deployed must be fixed and not updated. Currently testing with V8u21.
I have cracked and got working the fact the some of the Java apps, in this closed environment, are not signed or are self signed, and they work fine under Java 8u21.
I have been able to suppress IE 11 preventing "out of data active controls" being disabled and thus can install any version of Java without IE 11 blocking it.
But have not been able to suppress the "java needs updating" dialogue box occurring is say 6 months time.....I moved all the clocks on 6 months, 1 year, 2 years to test this. Java may or may not be updated at a later date, but needs to be fixed at deployment (and any later date system reimaging).
Is there a way to suppress this dialogue box ? In this closed setup, maybe not being connected to the internet and running with non-administrative privileges, there is no way to the upgrade can occur. Also we are using a "stateless" session, so that any changes, like user selecting "later" will be forgotten next reboot and dialogue box reappears. Not very profession in such a controlled environment.
I have tried "deployment.expiration.check.enabled=false" & "deployment.expiration.decision.suppression=false" in deployment.properties file and can see these being copied into the registry by Java, but clearly ignored as the dialogue box comes back....
Any thoughts please, as I don't really want to deploy nice new Windows 7 & IE11 boxes with Java 6u45

How to prevent java.io.exception when someone enters a bogus page in theURL
Say i have a page called Test.jsp. The user goes to it and everything is fine. If the user happens to play with the url and changes it to Tes.jsp, i get java.io.exception. Is there anyway to catch this?

AdamMost JSP servers have a configuration option to serve
up an error page in situations like this. Yours
probably does too.Once you find that, make it your error page with a page directive of isErrorPage="true". Then you have access to the implicit exception variable name to determine if it is really a 404 exception. -
Preventing java.util.logging.Logger from writing to STD ERR.

I'm currently writing a program which uses the java.util.logging package for logging. For some reason it writes ALL logging to std err (as well as to the designated (file) handlers). From what I gather, this is probably done via a ConsoleHandler, but I certainly haven't added any ConsoleHandler. I've also tried printing all registered handlers, which only returns one FileHandler (i.e. the one I added :)).
The following is a simplification of the code I use:

Prevent Instance Shutdown When Control File Can't Be Written To
Our instance keeps shutting down when the system's backup utility backs up the control file (and once an index file) and locks the file. This also occurs when virus scanning. I was wondering if there was a parameter to set to have DB Writer try more than once to write to a file before aborting (and shutting down our instance).

How can I prevent sudden shutdown of my BlackBerry Bold 9780 during cmaera usage?
My BlackBerry shuts down after taking 2 or 3 photos. Don't think battery is the issue as there's no problem with normal usage for calling or texting. Can usually last a few days without charging.

Running webservices prevents clean shutdown ?
We're using OC4J with eclipse and the development team has to go through the pain of restarting the appserver twice each time we stop/start. After fixing the localhost/127.0.0.1 problem (see *1), things worked smoothly until we started developing webservices. I didn't put it together until the following email arrived in my inbox this morning..
Notice how you have to restart OC4J twice since it won’t entirely remove the application the first time?
This is caused by our super sweet JAXP web services. If you don’t really care about deploying those there is an ugly hack to work around this problem – delete the webservices folder (from your disk not SVN) and the PublicAccessServiceBean which really belongs in the web services folder along with it’s test case. In fact if the web services were in a separate project/jar that the developer could optionally deploy we would have a better solution to this problem.
There must be a way to disable the deployment of the webservices in OC4J which would be a much more sane approach to fixing this problem, but it’s not apparent to the casual user as how that would be done.
I've search the forums and haven't been able to find a direct reference to the webservice problem. Anyone have any ideas ?

For those of you encountering the annoying need to restart your OC4J server within eclipse there is an alternative to removing the webservices folder. It’s a bit of a hack but a bit nicer (especially if you have to modify the web services!) It involves modifying the ant script used by eclipse to deploy to oracle. This script is located in your eclipse plugins folder under:
..\org.eclipse.jst.server.generic.oc4j_1.5.0.v200606130315\buildfiles
and it is called oracle.10.1.3.xml.
Open it up and add the target “undeploy.j2ee.module” to the start of the depends attribute of the target “deploy.j2ee.ear”. If you do this the application will always be undeployed before deployment and should correct the web services deployment issue. The modified node should look like…
<target name="deploy.j2ee.ear" depends="undeploy.j2ee.module,check.skip.ear.deploy" unless="skip.deploy">
The only problem with this hack is that the application has to be deployed already before you modify the script because otherwise the undeploy will fail. -
K9MMV BIOS question (goal to prevent random shutdowns)
My k9mmv shuts down during any graphics intensive game (and I don't think that the GPU is the cause, because there are no artifacts and I can turn the GPU fun on full speed). I believe the cause is an overactive temperature defense mechanism that attempts to shut down the computer. How do I disable this? I don't understand the bios. I understand such a function is good if it is accurate, but in my case it is shutting down on many false flags where the temperature was reasonable, so I need to disable it. If there is a hack or mod, I'll use that. The only other explanation would be hardware related, but I'm hoping this can be solved by manipulating software alone.

Guess I was in the wrong place to ask question. So here it is, in PSE 11, I was downloading photos from Sony's Play Memories program, got a news Sony camera and they push this program, knew I shouldn't of used it, but to late. While downloading photos from this into PSE organizer, it gets to 49% and freezes. Must manually shut off computer to close out of Elements. A small window appears stating "closing 1 app and shutting down, this app is preventing a shutdown".
My back up is on an external hard drive, Made sure I had the back-up for I was going to uninstall PSE 11 and Sony's Play Memories then re-install PSE 11 from hard drive. Before I knew it, the back up started to down load and picked up the faulty portion from the Organizer. So now they are both useless as I see iut. Any thoughts?
gulp...As you can see below, when I right click, I have no such option. In the User Account Settings, I'm operating as the "System Administrator".
