Javamail application throws java.lang.OutOfMemoryError

Hi,
ive made and javamail application, whenever i attach an attachment of around 600 kb or more the weblogic server throws an java.lang.OutOfMemoryError . Shouldnt the server be able to handle attachments of around 600 kb-2 mb ?
I'm using bea weblogic server 6.1 patch 4 with jdk 1.3.1 . Someone got a clue?, plz help, thanx.
here is a part of the code:
ByteArrayOutputStream buffer =
new ByteArrayOutputStream();
String name = null,
value = null,
filename = null,
contentType = null;
Dictionary fields = new Hashtable();
int i = in.readLine(bytes, 0, 512);
String st = null;
while ( -1 != i) {
st = new String(bytes, 0, i);
//memoryerror is thrown here after looping a while
if (st.startsWith(boundary)) {
state = 0;
if (null != name) {
if (value != null) {
fields.put(name,
value.substring(0,
// -2 to remove CR/LF
value.length() - 2));
else if (buffer.size() > 2) {
InternetHeaders headers =
new InternetHeaders();
MimeBodyPart bodyPart =
new MimeBodyPart();
DataSource ds =
new ByteArrayDataSource(
buffer.toByteArray(),
contentType, filename);
bodyPart.setDataHandler(
new DataHandler(ds));
bodyPart.setDisposition(
"attachment; filename=\"" +
filename + "\"");
bodyPart.setFileName(filename);

Hi Dan,
of course I can increase JVM memory, but that is not a right solution to hold whole network model in memory. You wrote that Release 2 brings some better approach that does not require loading of whole network into RAM. What I need to test it? I've 10.2 already installed. Do I need also new SDOAPI jars? If yes, where can be downloaded?
Thanks
Ondrej

  • ODISftpPut Tool Throwing "java.lang.OutOfMemoryError"

    I am creating this ODI Interface that will create a CSV file and then copy this file to an SFTP server and I am using the ODISftpPut tool to accomplish this.
    I was able to transfer files with sizes of 75MB and 110MB but when I tried to do it on a 270MB file I got the error below. I encountered this error below before trying to create a big file and we increased the ODI MAX HEAP size appropriately. Is the error below has something to do with this parameter? If yes, then does that mean that the ODISftpPut tool cannot transfer really big files like 2GB file for example unless you increase the ODI MAX HEAP size parameter?

  • IOS packager throws java.lang.OutOfMemoryError when packaging large projects

    Crosspost from stackoverflow, I figured this forum might have some insights too!
    I've been porting a Flex 4 codebase to iOS using the adobe packager, but have run into a snag when trying to package our whole codebase. The packager runs for a while and then throws an OutOfMemoryError - even if I increase the java heap size to 4GB.
    No single piece of code seems to be causing the problem, as it compiles successfully if I cut out large chunks of code, and I can change which chunks I'm omitting. It might be related to the size of the code itself.
    I've logged a very detailed bug report with adobe here: http://bugs.adobe.com/jira/browse/FB-32192 . It includes an AIRI file that you can package to reproduce the issue, a ruby script that generates actionscript code to generate that AIRI file, and a summary of all of the things I tried before logging the bug.
    Has anyone else tried compiling large projects with the iOS packager? Are there any known workarounds?

    Thanks for reporting the issue, we are working on it, hopefully it will be available in next major version of AIR.
    To know more about it, you might want nominate yourself for our prerelease program at this link.

  • Embedded WLS and JDev 12.1.2: java.lang.OutOfMemoryError: PermGen space

    This problem happens after about 10-15 application restarts during development phase. I have read somewhere that this was a known bug in 11g versions of JDev and its integrated WLS (10.3.5 or 10.3.6?). I have then increased memory parameters in configuration file. The only thing I achieved is that this crash now occurs later then sooner. Still very frustrating. When this happens I have to restart WLS and sometimes kill frozen JDeveloper.
    Any other idea/workaround?

    I heard that by changing some configuration values, we can resolve the problem (like adjusting -Xms & - Xmx parameters as well as the Max threads). But i don't know in which script/ tool should i find these settings to change.
    Could you please share your knowledge in this regard,
    Best regards,

    Hi
    You can change the XMX and thread  parameter in the Visual Administrator.

    Hi,
    Now as you can see that you are getting *"java.lang.OutOfMemoryError: PermGen space"* during the activation on an application it means that you are application needs more space in the non-heap part of the JVM which is PermGen to create the Classes, Class Structures, Methods and Reflection Objects of this applications hence you are getting this issue.
    Now how to solve this issue you try the following check list which would help you resolve this issue and overcome same type of issue in future
    Point-1). Make Sure that the PermGen Area is not set to a very less value.
    Point-2). Usually if an Application has Many JSP Pages in that case every JSP will be converted to a *.class file before JSP Request Process. So a large number of JSPs causes generation of a Large number of *.class files all these classes gets loaded in the PermGen area.
    Point-3). While allocating the -XX:MaxPermSize make sure that you follow a rough Formula… which works in most of the Application Servers.
    MaxPermSize = (Xmx/3) —- Very Special Cases (One Third of maximum Heap Size)
    MaxPermSize = (Xmx/4) —- Recommended (One Fourth Of maximum Heap Size
    To get more information on this I would suggest you to have look at the below link which would surely help you in this case

  • Big ANE causes java.lang.OutOfMemoryError when packaging Air application

    Hi,
    I'm working on an Air mobile game that uses ANE on iOS and Android. I'm in the process of creating a new ANE and face a problem on the Android side.
    My ANE requires an external framework (Burstly, http://burstly.com). If I just link the Android project to Burstly's .jar file, I get errors in "adb logcat", like:
    I/dalvikvm(16074): Could not find method com.burstly.lib.BurstlySdk.init, referenced from method com.freshplanet.burstly.functions.InitBurstlyFunction.call
    In order to include Burstly's files in my own .jar, I unzip Burstly's .jar file and repackage them with my compiled code in a unique .jar (following advice on http://stackoverflow.com/questions/7732742/air-3-native-extensions-for-android-can-i-how-t o-include-3rd-party-libraries).
    Problem: Burstly's SDK includes thousands of files. It doesn't create any trouble when packaging the ANE, but when I try to package the Air application, I get the following error:

    I read that the solution to eliminate this error is to give Java the parameters "-Xms...M -Xmx...M", with "..." being a high-enough number. Note that I'm working on a machine with 8GB of RAM. I tried to package the app in command line to be able to pass these parameters:
    /usr/bin/java -Xms512M -Xmx4096M -jar "/Applications/Adobe Flash Builder 4.6/sdks/4.6.0air31/lib/adt.jar" -package -target apk -storetype pkcs12 -keystore [...].p12 Main.apk Main-app.xml Main.swf -extdir "/Users/alex/Documents/Adobe Flash Builder 4.6/.metadata/.plugins/com.adobe.flexbuilder.project.ui/ANEFiles/front-end-mobile/com.ado be.flexide.multiplatform.ios.platform"
    But when I run a "ps -ef | grep java", I can see that adt runs another Java program (dx) without transmitting my -Xms -Xmx parameters:
    /usr/bin/java -jar /Applications/Adobe Flash Builder 4.6/sdks/4.6.0air31/lib/android/bin/dx.jar --dex --output=/private/var/folders/t9/3kw74cx14nv2xg9tgmx9m1jc0000gp/T/b5757d93-1e93-439c-8f6d -c93e4933f6f1/outputDEX.dex [... bunch of jars]
    Any idea to solve this issue?
    Thanks
    Alex

    I solved my issue by setting the _JAVA_OPTIONS environment variable. (Note: there are two underscores)
    I added the following line to my .bash_profile:
    export _JAVA_OPTIONS="-Xms1024m -Xmx4096m -XX:MaxPermSize=512m"
    Now everytime a Java program is launched from the command line, I see the following message:
    Picked up _JAVA_OPTIONS: -Xms1024m -Xmx4096m -XX:MaxPermSize=512m
    And my application packaging runs just fine now.
    I still have an issue though: this trick solved the problem for packaging the app from the command line, but the _JAVA_OPTIONS are not picked up when packaging from Flash Builder, so it still crashes there.
    Note that my Adobe Flash Builder 4.6.ini contains the following options:
    -Xms512m
    -Xmx1676m
    -XX:MaxPermSize=512m
    -XX:PermSize=64m
    1676m is the highest number I can put before Flash Builder refuses to launch. I'm not sure if these parameters are actually passed to the VM that runs de dx.jar program, or if it's just for the ActionScript compiler. But anyway my app packaging still crashes in Flash Builder.
    If someone knows a way to force Flash Builder to pickup the _JAVA_OPTIONS set in the command line, let me know :-)
    Thanks
    Alex

  • "java.lang.OutOfMemoryError: Java heap space"  while trying to read Excel.

    Hi Experts,
    Here is my query. I'm trying to upload excel data into database table. This excel contains more than 20000 records. I'm storing this data in a vector after reading it & passing this vector as a parameter to another method(not mentioned in the below code) which writes into the database. The code works for records <4000, but fails to read beyond that & throws exception as below.

    HOW did you increase the heap space? As that is the only solution you have in this case really.
    It is a known fact that POI can use up a lot of memory for big spreadsheets. If at all possible, I would try to switch to plain text comma separated files / tab delimited files. If you cannot do that, I would try to put a size restriction on the sheets that your application will process to get rid of the heap space risk. A sheet can contain 20000 records, or four sheets can contain 5000 records; in both cases you process the exact same data, but at only 25% of the total memory usage.

  • Error: java.lang.OutOfMemoryError when uploading CSV files to web server

    Hi experts,
    I have made a JSP page from which clients load csv files to web server. I am using Tomca 4.1 as my web server and JDK 1.3.1_09.
    The system works fine when uploadiing small csv files, but it crashes when uploading large CSV files.
    It gives me the following error:

    Thanx...
    Deepak

    I know it may be hard to throw away all this code, but consider using the jakarta fileupload component.
    I think it would simplify your code down to
    // Create a factory for disk-based file items
    FileItemFactory factory = new DiskFileItemFactory();
    // Create a new file upload handler
    ServletFileUpload upload = new ServletFileUpload(factory);
    // Parse the request
    List /* FileItem */ items = upload.parseRequest(request);
    // Process the uploaded items
    Iterator iter = items.iterator();
    while (iter.hasNext()) {
        FileItem item = (FileItem) iter.next();
        if (item.isFormField()) {
            processFormField(item);
        } else {
            // item is a file.  write it
            File saveFolder = application.getRealPath("/file");
            File uploadedFile = new File(saveFolder, item.getName());
            item.write(uploadedFile);
    }Most of this code was hijacked from http://jakarta.apache.org/commons/fileupload/using.html
    Check it out. It will solve your memory problem by writing the file to disk temporarily if necessary.
    Cheers,

  • Java.lang.OutOfMemoryError

    Hi all, can anybody help me?
    I am getting in production environment the error below. We have jboss 4.0.4 in virtual machine and 2 tomcat (apache-tomcat-5.5.17) servers in 2 different virtual machines. Between we have load balance also to send the request in 2 tomcats.
    Jboss is running in \jrockit-R27.3.1-jdk1.5.0_11 and tomcat 1 in \jrockit-R27.3.1-jdk1.5.0_11 and the other in \jrockit-R27.3.5-jdk1.5.0_14. Jboss deployment is build in jre6 and tomcat deployment (*.war files) in jdk 1.6.0_22. We have the same environment for test. In test env everything works fine and we did also stress test
    for 50 users and works fine. When we go live we are getting the error bellow, many times and in many screens. I couldn't find any pattern or something similar. Every time is different when tomcat communicated with jboss and also in both tomcats I am getting the same. The out of memory error it is throwing in tomcat. Jboss works fine.
    The strange think is that in the old version of production is working fine, and we did not make a lot of changes. The only thing is that in old version the deployment of the jboss is build in jdk 1.5.0_18 but now it is in jre6. Could someone give me a solution of that? I am thinking that the problwm maybe is that jboss deployment it is in jre6 and jboss is running with jrockit.

    Hi again,
    This is the situation:
    We have virtual machine in jrockitR27 for jboss 4.04 and 2 virtual machines for tomcat 5.5.17 clustering. The deployment in jboss was compile in java 1.5 using jdk1.5.0_18 and tomcat compile in java 1.5 using jdk1.6. This version is working fine.
    After some changes in the code and many test in UAT environment(which is the same with production) and also after stress test, we went live but we got OutOfMemoryError. The only different in the new version is that we had some changes in the code and we compile in java 1.5 using jre6 for jboss and for tomcat compile in java 1.5 using jdk1.6. The outOfMemoryError is throwing in communication of jboss and tomcat. When jboss send hasmap object to tomcat, then tomcat throws outOfMemoryError allocLargeObjectOrArray.
    The only different is that new version compile in java 1.5 using jre6. Is there is a problem for that? So tomcat throws outOfMemoryError allocLargeObjectOrArray. I cannot replicate the error in UAT. But I cannot go live just to test again that it is going to work if I make the build in java 1.5 using jdk 1.5. What else information do you want?
    Do you have experience in jrockitR27 and outOfMemoryError and compatibility issues?
    If I make again the deployment using jdk1.5 it will work?

  • Java.lang.OutOfMemoryError - jrockitR27

    Both tomcat java options:

    Hi,
    By default, the JVM will use up to 16Mb of RAM. If your program allocates a lot of memory, you may need to increase this value to give more room to the garbage collector.
    When starting the JVM, two parameters can be adjusted to suit your memory needs :
    -mx n Sets the maximum size of the memory allocation pool where n is in bytes, appending "m" to n will
    specified the number in megabytes, for example to set the maximum at 20Mb : java -mx 20m myApp
    . -ms n Sets the startup size of the memory allocation pool, where n is in bytes, appending "m" to n will
    specified the number in megabytes. The default is 1Mb.
    With JDK1.2, that syntax have changed, no space between ms/mx and the value : java -mx20m yourApplication
    And for your your code you can take ehodges suggestion and try profiling your application for memory
    usage and then proceed to change your code so that the memory allocation is better and you are also not
    creating objects unnecessarily
    Hope this helps

  • Error "java.lang.OutOfMemoryError" When Returning Large Number of Docs

    In our SES implementation, we have a custom search interface that allows users to search for documents and then add them to a "shopping cart". Users add then to their shopping cart from search results, by adding docs one-by-one or an Add All option. Once they are done "shopping" they create a report.
    Here is the scenario...
    Users are saerching for documents and seeing that on page 1, there is 1 - 10 of about 300 results. They clicked Add All and want all 300 docs added to their cart.
    What we do under the covers is we execute another search and set the docs requested to 200. We get the array of docs, iterate over them and add the keys to a list. We found 200 docs at a time to be a safe number. However, there are still 100 docs that were not added to their cart and users want all 300 added. In other words, when they click Add All, they want to add all docs, 300, 500, 5000, etc.
    I set the "Maximum Number of Results" to 500 and found that I can safely add up to ~ 350 docs at one time. However, going past this point throws the following error:
    [SOAPException: faultCode=SOAP-ENV:Server; msg= [java.lang.OutOfMemoryError]]
         at oracle.search.query.webservice.client.OracleSearchService.makeSOAPCallRPC(OracleSearchService.java:941)
         at oracle.search.query.webservice.client.OracleSearchService.doOracleSearch(OracleSearchService.java:469)
    After this error is thrown, SES was unable to recover and searching would not work anymore, even return 10 docs at a time. We had to restart SES to resolve the issue.
    1. What is throwing this error? Is it the amount of XML being returned?
    2. What is the maximum number of results we can get back at any one time? Is it based on the amount of data being returned or the number of attributes?
    We are running 10.1.8 with plans to upgrade soon.
    Thanks in advance.

    I know it may be hard to throw away all this code, but consider using the jakarta fileupload component.
    I think it would simplify your code down to
    // Create a factory for disk-based file items
    FileItemFactory factory = new DiskFileItemFactory();
    // Create a new file upload handler
    ServletFileUpload upload = new ServletFileUpload(factory);
    // Parse the request
    List /* FileItem */ items = upload.parseRequest(request);
    // Process the uploaded items
    Iterator iter = items.iterator();
    while (iter.hasNext()) {
        FileItem item = (FileItem) iter.next();
        if (item.isFormField()) {
            processFormField(item);
        } else {
            // item is a file.  write it
            File saveFolder = application.getRealPath("/file");
            File uploadedFile = new File(saveFolder, item.getName());
            item.write(uploadedFile);
    }Most of this code was hijacked from http://jakarta.apache.org/commons/fileupload/using.html
    Check it out. It will solve your memory problem by writing the file to disk temporarily if necessary.
    Cheers,
    evnafets

    Then I try with a single level network but I got the same error.
    Please can samebody help me?

    I find the solution to this problem.
    In the LODConfig.xml file I have:
    <readPartitionFromBlob>true</readPartitionFromBlob>
                   <partitionBlobTranslator>oracle.spatial.network.lod.PartitionBlobTranslator11g</partitionBlobTranslator>
    but when I change it to
    <readPartitionFromBlob>true</readPartitionFromBlob>
                   <partitionBlobTranslator>oracle.spatial.network.lod.PartitionBlobTranslator11gR2</partitionBlobTranslator>
    The application starts without the obove mentioned error.

    Hi,
    Yes,René van Wijk has said rite..
    Just open the Weblogic console,
    expand Environment-->Server-->(ur managed server)-->Server Start tab
    Just enter the below lines in Arguments:
    -Xms1024m -Xmx1024m -XX:MaxPermSize=256m
    Then bounce your managed server
    This should solve your problem
    Regards
