Javascript array in global variables

Hi,
In my form, I created a global variable called MyArray. Then in my form's initialization script, I've set:
myform.variables.MyArray = new Array(5);
and I initialized each value.
In one of my button's click event, I try to access my global array, without success. I tried:
myform.variables.MyArray[0], myform.variables.MyArray.value[0]... has anyone managed to create a global variable and use it as an array?
Thank you!

Hello.
I have used the "global." to get global variables. It works fine. I have code like this that works:
// Initialize global array.
global.chVArray = new Array(4);
for (i = 1; i <= 4; i++){
   global.chVArray[i] = false;
// Somewhere else...
for (i = 1; i <= 4; i++){
   xfa.host.messageBox (global.chVArray[i].toString());

  • Global variables to share data between separate programs.

    Hi guys and gals,
    On the advice of a lv consultant, we've used an array of global
    variables to share data (about 100 variables) between an acquisition/control
    program and a consumer program (datalogging) running on the same PC. This
    worked fine in the development environment. However it no longer works when
    the two programs are compiled. Is there a trick to get this to work or do
    we have to use datasockets or DDE to move the data.
    In case you're wondering the idea of two separate programs is to
    separate the critical control and data acquisition functions from the less
    critical but more likely to error datalogging functions.
    Regards,
    Alf Katz,
    [email protected]

    There are several solutions:
    1.) Use VI Server available in LabVIEW 5.1 and Up to provide a communication
    path between the two executables.
    2.) Use a data file to transfer the data between the two executables.
    3.) Use a TCP/IP connection there are several examples included with LabVIEW
    showing the mechanics of this.
    The simplest method is Number 1. Using the VI server, you open the
    connection and then retrieve the data form the Global VI based on the
    Parameter Name. It is very fast and requires very little processor
    overhead. Make a driver to Open the connection then a Read to get the data.
    Do not open and close the connection everytime, there is a lot of overhead
    in the Open connection call.
    Make sure you configure the VI Server within the development environmen
    t.
    Also you must include a few statements in the Executables INI file to
    correctly enable the VI server capabilities.

  • Global Variable as an array

    Hi All,
    Culd you please tell me where I can declare a global variable as an array in PI 7.1.
    In PI 7.O we used to store global variables in java sections and it was recognized across mapping in message mapping
    In PI 7.1 I have declared a variable in init function in functions tab in message mapping but its not recognized in my mapping.
    Could you please help me with this?
    Where I have to declare a global variable so that I can use it anywhere in mapping?
    Thanks in advance

  • Jsp variables to javascript array, for loop dont work.

    This works fine. con.getmake passes a different variable each time to the javascript array using a manual index.
    <script>
    make[0] = "<%= con.getmake() %>" ;
    document.write(make[0]);
    make[1] = "<%= con.getmake() %>" ;
    document.write(make[1]);
    make[2] = "<%= con.getmake() %>" ;
    document.write(make[2]);
    make[3] = "<%= con.getmake() %>" ;
    document.write(make[3]);
    </script>
    If I try and do the same with a for loop, It seems as though all the elements hold the same first variable retrieved from con.getmake, I am not getting the next variable from my java class.
    <script>
    for (var i= 0; i <= 2; i++)
    make[i] = "<%= con.getmake() %>" ;
    document.write(make);
    </script>

    Hi,
    Java is parsed once on the server which creates a HTML page, then it is passed to the client's browser where the javascript is executed. So con.getmake() is only executed once in java. You've got to execute your loop in java not javascript :
    <script>
    <%
    for (int i= 0; i <= 2; i++)
    %>
    document.write("<%= con.getmake() %>");
    <%
    %>
    </script>

  • Acrobat javascript global variable

    what is the step by step procedure on how to define your global variable and where to declare it?

    You can create a global variable anytime you want, so when you do it really depends on when and where it needs to be accessible. If you provide more details about how you intend to use it, we can provide more guidance. Here's the basics:
    http://livedocs.adobe.com/acrobat_sdk/9.1/Acrobat9_1_HTMLHelp/JS_Dev_AcrobatForms.76.38.ht ml
    http://livedocs.adobe.com/acrobat_sdk/9.1/Acrobat9_1_HTMLHelp/JS_API_AcroJS.88.774.html
    The other important issue is whether it needs to be stored so it can be accessed the next time Acrobat is started. That's what the global.setPersistent method is for: http://livedocs.adobe.com/acrobat_sdk/9.1/Acrobat9_1_HTMLHelp/JS_API_AcroJS.88.778.html

  • Control global variable used in sub vi

    Hi,
    I've created a vi to read an instrument and to initiate its calibration with labview. This VI stores data in a global variable containing measurments and status of the instrument.
    Now what I'm trying to do is create a sub vi with this to read&write 2 exactly identical instruments so I can finally create a VI that read all 3 instruments simultaneously.
    How could I create a control on the global variable used by the sub VIs since it is the only thing that will change along with its COM port ?
    I included a screetshot of the current VI.
    Thanks,

    I would make an array of values and then you just pass in which value to update.  I would actually take it a step further and make an Action Engine that can update the data and return the data.

  • Loading a text file into a global variable issue - really a global var?

    From all the documentation and examples I can find, it appears that it would be
    correct to create a global array variable [outside of any functions] to load image names into,
    then use these images for a slideshow. I want to make the app dynamic, in that changing the text file gives a new set of images.
    The global variable goes null [no values] after the load event listener. Why is that?
    Isn't global, well global, and alive for the duration of the SWF?
    PARAMS.TXT:

    var mNames:Array = new Array();
    var request:URLRequest = new URLRequest("images/params.txt");
    var variables:URLLoader = new URLLoader();
    variables.dataFormat = URLLoaderDataFormat.VARIABLES;
    variables.addEventListener(Event.COMPLETE, completeHandler);

    mNames = loader.data.monthNames.split(",");
    trace(loader.data.dayNames);
    trace("1 mNames 2: " + mNames[2]);
    trace("1 dNames 3: " + dNames[3]);

    How do I access these values after loading from the external file, after the load?
    Thanks in advance.

    The statement you quoted from whatever Adobe documentation is correct.
    If you want to load the data into the arrays before anything else happens, then have anything else that happens execute via the completeHandler function... after the data is loaded and processed into the arrays.
    the command: loadFile() executes before the trace("2:" +images[4]); command.  The loadFile function is processed and the loading process BEGINS... but starting the loading does not delay the main processing from continuing down the line--the loading itself becomes a secondary/background task.  The command was to execute the loadFile function and the processing of that function was completed.  If you don't believe so, then add a trace...
    function loadFile():void
         vars.dataFormat = URLLoaderDataFormat.VARIABLES;
         vars.addEventListener(Event.COMPLETE, onComplete, false, 0, true);
         vars.load(new URLRequest("images/fnames.txt"));
         trace("started loading");
    If you add that trace, you should see that the loadFile function execution is completed and the next line in your code is then processed... trace(2....)
    The addEventlistener does not stop anything.  The addEventListener code is assigning a monitor, not a traffic controller... it is telling the monitor to indicate when the data has finished loading.  It is not telling anything to stop program execution.
    So if you want to wait until the data is loaded before you do anything else... it goes....
    function onComplete(evt:Event):void
         var urlVars:URLVariables = evt.target.data;
         images = vars.data.images.split(",");
         tnails = vars.data.thumbnails.split(",");

  • How do I add a global variable to my app?

    Hi all,
    I am building a flex app which displays data in different tabs from a mysql database and I wan't to add a sign in process to make sure only registered users of the mysql db can see the data.
    To achieve this I built a sign in component which accepts a username, password and the name of the database to connect to. My flex app then uses a php script to verify that the user can connect to the database using the details entered. If not, the sign in component displays an error message, but if sign in details are verified then the user can see the data from the database.
    How can I store the details in the flex app for that users session so that when the user queries the db for data, flex uses the details entered during the sign in process to connect to the mysql db and submit the query?
    I thought about storing the details as an array in a global variable and then accessing that global variable from anywhere in my app but I don't know if that is the correct/secure way to do what I want, nor do I know how to do it. Any help would be much appreciated.
    Thanks in advance,

    quick, dirty example, could be improved on but it'll get you rolling;
    After user login has succeeded, send off another HTTP service eg;
    ========
    <mx:Script>
             <![CDATA[
                public var whateverUserNameWasEntered:String;
                 public var whateverUserPasswordEntered:String;
         public function onLoginSuccess():void
              whateverUserNameWasEntered:String = loginbox.text;
              whateverUserPasswordEntered:String = passwordbox.text;
              storeSessionStuff.send();
         ]]>
        </mx:Script>
    <mx:HTTPService id="storeSessionStuff" showBusyCursor="true" method="POST"  url="http://localhost/store.php" useProxy="false">
            <mx:request xmlns="">
              <username>
                   {whateverUserNameWasEntered}
              </username>
              <password>
                   {whateverUserPasswordEntered}
              </password>
            </mx:request>
        </mx:HTTPService>
    ========
    direct it to the php file.....
    <?php
    session_start();
    $_SESSION['username'] = $_POST['username'];
    $_SESSION['password']   = $_POST['password'];
    ?>
    Then, whenever you want to get the information out of the Session, send off another HTTP Service...;
    <mx:HTTPService id="getSessionStuff" result="storeData(event)" showBusyCursor="true" method="POST"  url="http://localhost/get.php" useProxy="false"/>
    to the php file....
    <?php
    session_start();
    print "<details><username>".$_SESSION['username']."</username><password>".$_SESSION['password'] ."</password></details>";
    ?>
    which, you need a result function for:
    <mx:Script>
             <![CDATA[
              private function storeData(evt:ResultEvent):void
                    var username:String;
                    var password: String;
                   username = evt.result.details.username;
                   password = evt.result.details.password;
          ]]>
    </mx:Script>
    ta daa

  • Setting the value of an Application Item (setting a global variable);

    In APEX 3.2.0.00.27, I need to initialize a global variable to 0 to implement a variable for testing to see if anything on the page has changed. Will update to 1 when certain select lists on the page are changed. Have read through some similar questions and replies within the forum as well as other blogs and sites. So, I believe what I am doing is the way to go about this. Unfortunately, my initialization of an application item/global isn't happening yet. here's a rundown of what has been implemented:
    1) created an application item, G_CLASSIFICATION_ID_NEW in the shared components;
    2) created Javascript (JS) function called by addLoadEvent in the page html header region so when the page loads, the G_CLASSIFICATION_ID_NEW global/application item should get set to 0 with the following JS and using AJAX and htmldb_GET:
    <script type="text/javascript">
    function initVars()
    alert("before get initvars");
    var get = new htmldb_Get(null,$x('pFlowId').value,null,22);
    get.add('G_CLASSIFICATION_ID_NEW', 0);
    gReturn = get.get();
    if(gReturn){
    alert(gReturn.value);
    get = null;
    alert("after get initvars");
    alert("before call to initpage");
    addLoadEvent(initVars());
    </script>
    I've used the htmldb_Get with success for populating other global variables and running On Demand Processes with onchange JS calls in the html form element attributes within select lists on the page. Afterwards, I can check the globals via the Session window and searching on Application Items. Unfortunately, I'm missing something because my G_CLASSIFICATION_ID_NEW never gets populated when I load the page. The alerts all popup when the page is loaded, so I know the script is being executed when the page loads. the alert(gReturn.value) comes back undefined. And, needless to say, the G_CLASSIFICATION_ID_NEW to 0 is not occurring.
    I've tried the htmldb_Get with it calling an application process and without (set to null). From what I've read, you shouldn't need to call an on demand process to have the get.add set the global variable. Then again, this could be where I'm going wrong. however, as I've mentioned, this works for other functions called from an onchange to populate an application item, but the page has already loaded when the onchange(s) get executed. They may work because the page is already loaded when the onchange is called. My point here is that my other On demand processes are NOT setting or changing the global variables at all. The globals are getting set with the get.add(<app item>, <value>) portion of my other JS functions within the HTML Header region. So, I'm inclined to believe that I don't need the 'application_process=<some_odp>' parameter set, but if that's not true, please let me know. if so, what would need to be in the on demand process--ie, what would be the purpose of the get.add(<application item>, <value>) if I set the global variable in the on demand process because that's the only thing I could think of doing within an on demand process for this?
    If somebody can point out what I'm not understanding or failing to do here, that would be great. I'm doing fine with APEX, but wouldn't consider myself a guru with it just yet. I'm definitely not a JS/AJAX guru, and when things like this go astray, I get bogged down because I'm not sure of the problem. So, I'm hoping you gurus who monitor this forum can get me going in the right direction.
    thanks,
    bob

    Hi Jari,
    Does that javascript work if you place it some of region footer on page 22 ?Yes. I cut it out of the html header of the page, and put it in the footer of the first region on the page. It initializes the variable. Putting it into the footer of the first region on the page should work for me instead of having an extra region on the page that's being picked up from page 0.
    Is your page 22 authentication public ?No. This particular page is set for an ADMINISTRATOR only. That said, I am logged in as an administrator. So, I cannot see why setting authentication should make a difference as long as I have that authentication/authorization. Also, there will be other pages where I want to use this script or a similar script, but again, those pages will not be open to the public. the authentication will be "role" based where a user will not necessarily have to be an administrator, but they will have to have a certain role to access the page. Is there a known problem or something that precludes a html header JS script from doing an addloadevent when authentication is NOT public?
    thank you,

  • How to use a global variable for reading a query resultset in JDBC lookup?

    Hi Friends,
    Using JDBC lookup, I am trying to read from a table Emp1 using a user defined function. In PI 7.0, this function returns values of a single column only even if you fire a " Select * " query. I am planning to use a global variable(array) that stores individual column values of the records returned by a "select *" query. Need pointers on as to how a global variable can be declared and used to acheive the above scenario. Kindly explain with an example. Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Amit.

    Hi Amit,
    Sounds like a good idea but then you would need an external db and update the table in a thread safe way !.

  • Moment global variable values

    In ISF/Javascript, what are all the values for the Moment global variable?
    For example, (Moment == "ordering") can be used to check if the current moment is Ordering moment. What are the values for all other moments, specifically Service Group Review and Service Group Authorization moments?
    Thank you.

    The values for Service Group Review moment is "streviews" and Service Group Authorization moment is "stauthorizations".
    You are correct that these are not in the designer documentation.  One way you can find them is through view page or frame HTML source when the service form is in that particular moment, and look for the word "Moment".

  • What is the best way to retrive data from a Global Variable?

    Here is what I want to do,
    I have several PC's that run different types of tests. I want to use a global variable, running on a single PC, that acts like a sever that can be accessed by the other PC's in my lab. This Global variable will store the hostnames of the different PC's that are currently running each test, along with a description of the test.  Then, a user can access this Global variable to read the different values and select the PC and connect to it's desktop using Remote Desktop in Windows.
    Is it possible to write data to the Global variable that is running on the single PC?
    What is the best way to do this? Does anyone have a sample VI?
    What is the best way to then read the data from the Global variable?
    (I will probably use an array\cluster to store the hostnames.)

    Another pre-LV8 idea...
    A functional global can be accessed using VI-Server and called using "call by reference".
    This approach harnesses the TCP functionality built into the VI-Server to manage the conncetion.
    This can be pretty quick and (if the functional global is written correctly) will support buffered- mixed data types. (Try to do that with the Shared Variable  ).

  • Call function in LabView from a DLL, then access global variable from DLL

    I have created a DLL in LabWindows with a function and a structure.  I want to call the function from within LabView and then access the global structure.  I am able to call the function from the DLL with a "Call Library Function Node" and can access the return value, but I cannot figure out how to access the global structure.  The structure is declared in the DLL header file with __declspec(dllimport) struct parameters.
    Is there any way of accessing this structure without using the Network Variable Library?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    dblok wrote:
    When you say "access to" or "the address of" the global variable, do you mean to pass the variable as an argument to the function call in the DLL?  If so, then I was not really sure how to pass a cluster from LabView by using the "Call Library Function Node".
    Yes, that's exactly right.  I would include a pair of helper functions in the DLL to read and write the global variable.  Alternatively you might write separate helper functions for each field inside the global structure, depending on the number of fields and whether you want to do any validation on the values.
    You can pass a cluster by reference to a function that expects a struct by setting the parameter to Adapt to Type, so long as the cluster does not contain any variable-length elements (strings or arrays).  The cluster needs to match the struct exactly, and sometimes that involves adding extra padding bytes to make the alignment work.  Variable-length elements in LabVIEW need to be converted to clusters containing the same number of elements as the struct definition (for example, if your struct contains char name[12], you would create a cluster of 8 U8 values, and you could use String to Array of Bytes followed by Array to Cluster to convert a LabVIEW string into that format).  If the struct contains pointers it gets more complicated, and it may be easier to write functions in the DLL to access those specific elements individually.
    If you can't get this working or need help, post your code and an explanation of the error or problem you're seeing.
    EDIT: it is also possible to include a single function in the DLL that returns the address of the global variable, which LabVIEW can then use to access and modify the data, but that's more complicated and likely to lead to crashes if you don't get the memory addressing exactly right.

  • Using a global variable within a function

    Hi all,
    I'm trying to learn how to use global variables, but can't quite get it right:
    Im trying to use two buttons, named UpButton and DownButton to control one global variable, p1
    A text field, named "Value" displays p1.
    Here's my code:
    p1 = 0;
    ButtonClick("UpButton", p1, 100,"Value");
    ButtonClick("DownButton", p1,(-100),"Value");
    function ButtonClick(ButtonName,Var,Increment,TextToChange){
                        sym.$(ButtonName).click(function(){
                        Var = Var + Increment;
                        sym.$(TextToChange).html(Var);
    However, it seems to be treating p1 as two different variables.
    Here's a link to the page to show you what I mean, apologies but this link wont work in google chrome because I'm using dropbox as a server temporarily
    In other browsers you may need to click "Show all content" or similar to any security warnings...

    https://app.box.com/s/0shocivto8fl295h62uq
    Any help greatly appreciated, sorry if this is a stupid question,
    Katherine

    Hi Katherine,
    However, it seems to be treating p1 as two different variables.
    Indeed, your code created two different variables in two different scopes (I guess it as to do with JavaScript closures, but do  not ask me more, I am still a bit foggy about that idiosyncrasy ).
    In JavaScript, a primitive parameter – this is the case here with p1, a Number value –, is passed by value. In other words, a copy of the value is made. Your code handles two copies of the value stored in p1.
    This contrasts with an object parameter, which is passed by reference (address in memory), without copy. Your code would work if Numbers were passed by reference : the two Var (p1) would then point to the same address.
    The intent behind your trial is a global variable.
    1) Let us be as simple as possible :
    Stage : document.compositionReady event handler
    p1 = 0;
    buttonClick = function( Increment)
      p1 += Increment;
      sym.$( "Value").html( p1);
    Stage : DownButton.click event handler
    buttonClick(-100);
    Stage : UpButton.click event handler
    buttonClick(100);
    Without being preceded by the var keyword the variables are global.
    So the Number variable p1 can be accessed inside function buttonClick.
    And the Function variable buttonClick as well, is accessible inside click event handlers, everything (function definition +function calls) being inside the same symbol (Stage).
    2) Now, suppose this is no longer the case : you want to access a variable from another symbol.
    We create a new GraySquare symbol, instantiated both in the DownButton symbol (instance name DownSquare) and in the UpButton symbol (instance name DownSquare).
    Stage : document.compositionReady event handler
    p1 = 0;
    sym.buttonClick = function( Increment)
      p1 += Increment;
      sym.$( "Value").html( p1);
    The sym. prefix is now necessary to make the variable (here a Function, but you would proceed exactly the same with a String, Number or Boolean) accessible in other symbols.
    DownButton symbol : DownSquare.click event handler
    sym.getComposition().getStage().buttonClick( -100);
    UpButton symbol : UpSquare.click event handler
    sym.getComposition().getStage().buttonClick( 100);
    From these other symbols, the sym.getComposition().getStage(). prefix is necessary to acces to our global variable (function).
