Javascript Error with Adobe's own script

My company gave me a FindChangeList.txt to use for formatting books. It is in the FindChangeSupport folder in both the JavaScript and VBS folders. When I try to run the Javascript version of FindChangeByList that shipped with InDesign CS4, I get the following error:
Error Number 25
Error String: Expected : :
File: ..FindChangeByList.jsx
Line 172
Source: app.do.Script[myString, ScriptLanguage.javascript]
Running the VBS version of FindChangeByList does nothing at all.
I don't know anything about Javascript, so could someone please tell me what to do.
I am running Windows XP and InDesign CS4.

Hi mattaca,
I didn't find a problem, so I haven't found a solution. Questions to start with:
Which version of InDesign are you using?
Which scripting language are you using?
Have you edited the FindChangeByList.txt file?
Thanks,
Ole

  • "out of memeory" error with Adobe Reader x & IE8

    Hello,
    Getting an "out of memory" error with Adobe Reader X & IE8. This is a locked down bank environment so upgrading to a higher version of Adobe is out of the question.
    I looked around on the web and noticed that many people are experiencing this "out of memory error" but no fix has been provided.
    Can you help?

    Thanks for the reply and suggestion - unfortunately, I get this error when I open Adobe Reader X itself in addition to launching a pdf within IE9 (my OS is Win7x64 Ultimate).  I can launch Adobe Reader X, but when I open any kind of PDF file (local copy, remote, web, etc...) the error dialog box pops up.  Everything seems functional with Reader, it's just a frustrating (er, irritating!) thing!  I think after the weekend I will 'give up' and remove the Reader X and go back to my 'old' (but functioning!) Reader - thanks for the comment and suggestion tho!

  • Fix for Dreamweaver CC 2014.1 JavaScript Error With All ASPX Files

    Entire morning wasted.
    Adobe's upgrade to Dreamweaver 2014 to 2014.1 on Windows 7 Professional has broken the product across the board and it no longer opens any .aspx pages correctly.  A large number of people use .NET and now we can no longer access/use these files/pages without multiple JavaScript errors.  Particularly those that have edited the MMDocumentTypes file to make the product work in the first place since they stopped supporting the users that develop in ASP.NET.
    Every time a .aspx file is now opened, the following JavaScript error is received: "While executing translateCustomControl in ExternalRenderers.html, a JavaScript error occurred.  Click 'close' and it appears again...over and over.  Our sites are all unable to open in DW because of this.  It worked fine in earlier versions of DW, including 2014.  It's only 2014.1 that broke everything.
    The fix for this:
    1. Follow instructions on this out-of-date help file: Change, add recognized file extensions | Dreamweaver
    2. (and the part that's new): The MMDocumentTypes file is located in  C:\Users\*your username*\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Dreamweaver CC\Configuration\DocumentTypes directory. Open that file and add aspx back to the <documenttype id="HTML"> declaration at the top.
    I am posting this issue here in hopes that some of the users won't waste most of the day trying to figure this out.

    Hi Ivan,
    I'm having that exact same problem now...in addition to that JavaScript error message coming back.  I submitted a bug report last week about this and received the following reply:
    Hi Chris,
    We would like to let you know that we able to reproduce this issue at our end. Thanks for reporting this.
    We will try to prioritize it for fixing. This might take some time. We thank you for your patience with us in this regard.
    Please let us know if you need help regarding anything else. We will be more than happy to help you.
    Thanks,

    Hopefully they can get this fixed soon, as it's ground my work in the software to a halt.

  • Using the JavaScript Debugger with Adobe Reader X (10.1.0) ?

    Hello all,
    Quite new to JavaScript in Acrobat I am trying to write a 4 page Form with CenoPDF and check/debug it with Adobe Reader X (10.1.0) on a Windows 7 (32bit, usually no Admin rights) PC. I realise Acrobat Professional would be a more appropriate tool, but for the moment I hope to get away with Reader.
    Following this instruction I managed to get the Javascript Debugger running with Reader X, but there is a serious issue:
    The Debugger window often crashes - and with it the whole Reader - after clicking around on a few controls (triangles in the Scripts window or others). First the font changes, then letters disappear, controls disappear and soon after the whole user interface freezes (see the two screenshots below).
    Questions:
    Do others also have problems with crashing Debuggers?
    Is there a known solution or work around to this problem?
    Many thanks for your help or some info, BobDuke

    I am having the same problem.  Win 7 or Win XP doesn't matter the problems seems to be with Adobe 10.1.0.  Works ok with Word, but not adobe reader.  Doesn't un-collate if the box is checked.  Tried to unchecked then recheck.  Use to work but now it doesn't.

  • Javascript Error with UIX Page

    Hi all,
    I am using JHeadstart 10.1.2.2.32 with JDeveloper 10.1.2.1.0 to develop UIX pages. I have run into the following problem with one of my UIX pages. We have a page with a table view which uses sortable headers. In certain situations when using the sortable headers in IE 6.0.2900.2180, a javascript error appears. This does not occur using Firefox.
    It says:
    Line: 2894
    Char: 1
    Error: 'type' is null or not an object
    Code: 0
    URL: (the URL of the page)
    I have figured out that the error is occuring in the Common2_2_20.js file on the following line, which is part of the function _multivalidate:
    var a7 = a6.type; The error only occurs in the following situation. If the user has just logged into the system and certain rows in the table are read-only and others are editable. If you click on any of the sortable headers, it will sort fine the first time. However, if you click on the sortable header again, the javascript error appears. It only happens if you click on the sortable headers twice in a row.
    I have tried taking out the line of code, but then I can not sort the headers at all.
    I read in the forum that the error can occur because of the way IE handles the compression of javascript files. We changed the setting on the app server to not compress javascript files. I then undeployed and redeployed the application. However the same error is still occuring.
    If you need any more information, please let me know. Thanks in advance.
    Susan

    We found out that we had a custom script on the page that was interfering with script in the Common2_2_20.js. By moving the script to the end of our page, it solved our problem.

    I think you are trying to run the program but you don't have the required class POP3Session.class or it's .java file which you can compile.

  • Javascript error with HTML Editor

    HI,
    I was wondering if anyone could help me with a javascript error which appears upon page load. It only appears in internet explorer,
    This person appears to have solved the problem but does not explain where abouts they made the change required.
    FCK Rich Text Editor aka HTML Editor Standard IE Error/Bug
    This problem also appears on the apex demo of new features.
    If anyone can respond with help, it would be greatly appreciated
    Regards
    Kev

    Hello Kevin,
    This is a difficult issue as the init code for the editor item is being generated internally by the APEX engine, and we don’t have any control over it. As I see it, a complete solution can only be provided by the APEX team.
    Until then I’m using a workaround, based on the original init code. The FCK Editor takes a standard textarea and convert it into the editor item, based on its init parameters.
    First I’m uploading the FCK JavaScript code, using the page HTML Header Text (If you are using the editor a lot, you can define a page template to do that for you). The code is:
    <script type="text/javascript" src="/i/fck/fckeditor.js"></script>Now I’m using a regular textarea item as the base item for the editor. I’m using a regular onload event to init this item:
    onload="initFCK('P80_MY_EDITOR');"The JavaScript function I’m using is similar to the following:
    function initFCK(pItem) {
                var oFCKeditor        = new FCKeditor(pItem) ;
                oFCKeditor.BasePath   = "/i/fck/" ;
                oFCKeditor.Width      = '760';
                oFCKeditor.Height     = '105';
                oFCKeditor.ToolbarSet = 'Basic' ;
                oFCKeditor.Config[ "AutoDetectLanguage" ] = false;
                oFCKeditor.Config[ "DefaultLanguage" ]    = "en";
                oFCKeditor.ReplaceTextarea() ;
    }Of course, the init parameters can be changed according to your specific needs.
    This code works fine on IE and FF (didn’t check other clients).
    Regards,
    Arie.

  • Error with Adobe Acrobat X "error opening the document. The file is damaged and could not recover"

    Good morning,
    I have a problem when generating PDF files with Adobe Acrobat X.
    When I give print a Word document 2003 ... 2007 ... 2010 ... and select a network drive to save the PDF file, I get the following error "error opening the document. Thefile is damaged and not could recover."
    The file is saved on your drive well ... but I always get this error.
    Any ideas???
    Thank you.

    First of all thanks for responding.
    The installed version of Adobe's Adobe OS X and Windows XP machines is thelatest patch level.
    The local system .... works well ... Open Office 2010 ... create a new Word document and save it locally ... and all good.
    The problem is though that same machine ... it enters network (not Windows network. OES2 is a network with Novell network client) ... and to open and create a new document to WORD .... when printing the PDF printer ... select a network drive... and when the document is saved well ... but it shows the error.
    I have an amount of hours lost with this ... I hope you can help me find a solution.
    Thank you very much.

  • Can't download DW5.5. Error with Adobe Download Assistant

    I am getting error 100 with the Adobe Download Assistant (ADA). The log is below. IE can connect to https://www.adobe.com/cfusion/flex2gateway so why is ADA having problem? I wish Adobe didn't take away the direct download links. Searching the forums it seems lots of people are having problems with iADA and it must be causing support headache for Adobe.
    My suggestion is for people who know what they're doing, provide the direct links. For people who don't know what to do after the download or have slow connection, they can use ADA.

    The Assistant is a Windows application which I expect it will download and install DW for me.  How is a browser involved in this scenario?
    i don't have any of the CS products installed and the cleaner didn't have any work to do.
    Sorry, I thought the Cleaner would do it.  Did another search and found these instructions to remove the download manager:
    http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/400/kb400533.html
    The browser is involved because it runs as a plugin of the browser.  Plugins are different for the browsers.  IE typically runs through ActiveX whereas other browsers run through a java enabled version.  By trying the download in another browser you can rule out where the problem lies.  Otherwise, I feel your only solution is to get in touch with Adobe support because this is a user-to-user community and there won't be much more help than KB articles.  Also with Adobe email support you can email them log files to look at.  It's along the process and will explain as you go.

  • File does not begin with '%pdf' error with adobe reader 10.1.5 onwards

      In our web application we are using activePDF toolkit (3rd party component) to fill up carrier forms on the fly which are PDF files.
    The output file processed by the above library works fine when opened with adobe reader 8, 9 and10 on end user’s browser (IE); however, it gives below error when opening with adobe reader 11.
    Till now, we have tried different settings at IIS level, Internet explorer e.t.c. suggested on different internet posts. However, we are still facing the problem.
    While analyzing this we have come across following link
    http://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/kb/pdf-error-1015-11001-update.html
    According to this adobe 10.1.5 onward file should only start with "%pdf". If file start with other than this we get file corrupted message.
    Before we can communicate this message to client we want to confirm this for experts. Please let me know my assumption is right?

    Rahti - i'm having the same issue but I not familiar with the steps outlined in the Adobe link below
    http://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/kb/pdf-error-1015-11001-update.html
    Would you be able to help with how I can navigate to this on my PC to correct it for me.

  • UIX Javascript Error with Date Picker

    Hi all,
    I am using JDeveloper 10.1.2.1.0 with JHeadstart 10.1.2.2.32 to create UIX pages. I have a page with a filter by search field. If I select the date picker on this page in IE version 6 or 7, I get the following javascript error:
    Error: 'length' is null or not an object
    I have found this in the Common2_2_20.js, which is part of the jslibs
    function _accumulateNumber(
    a0,
    a1
    var a2=a0.currIndex;
    var a3=a2;
    var a4=a0.parseString;
    ***var a5=a4.length;***
    if(a5>a3+a1)
    a5=a3+a1;
    var a6=0;
    while(a3<a5)
    var a7=parseDigit(a4.charAt(a3));
    if(!isNaN(a7))
    a6*=10;
    a6+=a7;
    a3++;
    else
    break;
    if(a2!=a3)
    a0.currIndex=a3;
    return a6;
    else
    return(void 0);
    }With Firefox 1.5.0.4, I can get the date selector window to open, but when I select a date value, I get this javascript error:
    a0.select() is not a function
    I have found this in the Common2_2_20.js also. Here is the code where the error is occuring.
    function _dfsv(
    a0,
    a1
    if((a0==(void 0))||(a1==(void 0)))
    return;
    a1+=_getTimePortion(a0);
    var a2=new Date(a1);
    var a3=_getDateFieldFormat(a0);
    var a4=a0.value;
    var a1=a3.format(a2);
    if(a0.value!=a1)
    if(a0.onchange!=(void 0))
    if(_agent.isIE)
    a0.onpropertychange=function()
    var a5=window.event;
    if(a5.propertyName=='value')
    a0.onpropertychange=function(){};
    a0.onchange(a5);
    a0.value=a1;
    else
    a0.value=a1;
    var a5=new Object();
    a5.type='change';
    a5.target=a0;
    a0.onchange(a5);
    else
    a0.value=a1;
    ***a0.select();****
    a0.focus();
    }I am able to use the date picker on other pages and even different parts of this page. The date search field is of type dateField.and is part of a switcher. Does anyone have any ideas as to why this is occuring or how I can work around it? Thanks in advance. I really appreciate all of your help.
    Susan

    Thanks for the reply. As a matter of fact, in my case the error happens in a UIX page generated by JHeadstart. I did some JavaScript debugging using the FireBug Firefox entension and I found that it is some JHeadstart JavaScript that causes this problem.
    The JHeadstart JavaScript passes on an array of input elements to the AFD JavaScript function and the problem arises when the select() method is called on the array, rather than an input element in the array.
    I will try to solve my issue by modifying the JHeadstart JavaScript code. Please see the JHeadstart forum somewhere in the near future for my post(s) about this :-)
    Thanks, Wouter

  • Insufficient Data for an Image error with Adobe CONVERT_OTFSPOOLJOB_2_PDF

    We are using the standard function module CONVERT_OTFSPOOLJOB_2_PDF to
    print a standard invoice to the spool and convert it to a PDF. This
    PDF is displayed on the web by directing the output of this function module to Adobe Reader.
    We are having a production problem where suddenly these PDFs will not
    print, and are displaying the error message "Insufficent data for an
    image" with Adobe Reader. While a partial PDF is displayed, some of
    the data is missing.  It appears that the image that is being complained about is a company logo, and the pdf also does not display some additional characters.
    We saw this data 2 years ago in production, but it suddenly went away
    after a few days. Suddenly it is back.
    The issue can be easily replicated in our Dev system and Prd system,
    but Tst is acting fine.
    Has anyone ever seen this error?  Any advice on what may be occurring would be a huge help with this production problem.
    Todd Murphy
    The Hershey Company

    Haven't seen that error before.  How are you converting the data after the function call if at all, i.e., are you moving to an XSTRING before handing it off to the web app?
    The things I would suggest which may be stating the obvious are:
    - Download the PDF locally after conversion with GUI_DOWNLOAD and check for the error
    - Does the same issue occur with program RSTXPDFT4 or fm RSPO_RETURN_SPOOLJOB or a SAPOffice (direct) conversion?
    - Remove the logo and try and/or take the original logo, reconvert it to BMP and upload it again in SE78
    - What happens if you change the destination device in the call, if anything?
    - Does OSS note 1320163 apply?

  • Runtime error with Adobe Reader 9.x and IE

    I'm getting a runtime error with any adobe reader 9.x and Internet Explorer whenever a .pdf is being viewed online.  It will pull the .pdf up and then pop up a runtime error window and close it down completely.  It is only happening with individuals that have redirected app data folders and profiles.  I have all machines running Windows XP sp3 and IE8.  I know, I know, I can always go to Firefox or Chrome, but IE is easily managed with group policy lockdowns.  I can unintall reader 9.x and then reinstall 8.x and it works perfectly.  The only problem with that is that I have to go do every machine and physically uninstall since I buildt the windows xp installer package with it.  Does anyone know a workaround or if adobe is going to get it fixed pretty soon?

    I am experiencing exactly the same problems on one of two identical machines after something happened in the registry.
    The first problem that appered was an error 1325 "Favorites is not a valid short name".
    I did find the registry key involved (%userprofile%\Favorites) and fixed it.
    So now the the next one: yours.
    I think the solution can be found in the list of registry keys that Adobe Reader is accessing.
    btw Eusing registry cleaner did not find this key to be in error.
    Problem is that the Reader does not ask for an alternative location after stumbling on the key.
    Who can gnerate a list of keys accessed?
