JavaScript in Creator-projects

Hello,
I have a question about JavaScript. I have a page with two textfields, each 10 characters in length and below of each other.
What I would like to achieve is the following:
If a user enters one (or more) characters in one field, then the other field should be filled automatically with corresponding (but other) characters (it has to do with DNA-analysis).
For example, if a user enters a 'C' in one field, then the other field should be updated with a 'G' and the other way round.
Because the logic is quite simple, I think using JavaScript would be better than using AJAX. So does anybody know how to do this or where I can find some tutorial about JavaScript in Creator (I already searched the Creater-homepage and the blogs and couldn't find anything...)
Thank you!
Felix

Can you further explain "did not work"? What are your symptoms, error messages? Is the browser not seeing your JavaScript or is there an error in your JavaScript that prevents the browser from executing it.
Have you tried using your browser's debugger to determine where the problem is? Have you seeded the JavaScript with alert statements to find out what is working and what isn't?
Not knowing exactly where you are running into trouble, I can only give out a couple of solutions. They may or may not fit your situation.
o One way to insert JavaScript into a JSP file is to wrap it in
start and end tags. This ensures that the script makes it to the browser intact.
o Here is one way to add a .js file and reference it from your page:
# Assuming that your .js file doesn'ty already exist in the web folder...From the main menu choose File > Add Existing Item > Other (All Files).
# Navigate to and select your .js file
# Click Add.
The IDE puts the file under he Source Packages > <project> folder. In the next step, you move the file to the web folder.
# In the Projects window, right-click the Source Packages > <project> > <your file>.js node and choose Cut from the pop-up menu.
# Right-click the Web Pages node and choose Paste from the pop-up menu.
# View your page in the Visual Designer.
# Drag the Script node from the Advanced section of the Palette window and drop it on a blank spot on the page.
# In the Properties window for the Script, click the url property's ellipsis (...) button, select your .js file and click OK.
The .js will now be included in the JSP file for the page.

• How to wrap up C++ Qt Creator project into ABS/AUR?

Hi,
Is there a more or less standard/streamlined procedure to create a deployable package from a Qt Creator project?

You mean create a PKGBUILD file? You just use the same build commands in the PKGBUILD that you would do in a console. eg. most Qt programs are built with a simple
> qmake
> make
Check out a few pkgbuilds from aur/abs for Qt apps for examples.

I don't believe that you can run the AS that way.
But, anyway, this questions should have been askeed in the JSC forum:

• Cannot create a Sun Java Studio Creator project

After successfully installing Sun Studio Creator on a machine running Fedora Core 7 I find that I am unable to create a JSF Web Application.
Studio Creator will create an initial project in the home/john/Creator subdirectory and then create a project.xml file there. The application then hangs while showing the mouse cursor in a wait state that never ends.
Studio Creator was installed using a config file called "creator-2_1-linux-ml.sp" while running in the -silent mode.
Why you might ask? Because that is the only way it would install.
The .sp file contains the following:
installDir=/home/john/StudioCreator
jdkHome=/usr/java/jdk1.6.0_02
serialNumber=trial
is.debug=1
The app was installed using the command ./creator-2_1-linux-ml.bin -silent
It would not install using xhost + localhost/export DISPLAY=localhost:.0.0
Any ideas?

I am having the same issue. I have kubuntu linux ; downloaded the creator install file "*creator-2_1-linux-ml.bin*" and installed the creator. When studio creator runs, it is unable to create initial project and I see only xml file.
Eventhough Netbeans works good; but creator has integrated database provided; so it is easy to follow tutorials given on sun website.
Any clues...

• How to integrate different creator projects

We have 3 diff creators installed on 3 diff machines we are developing diff modules on these 3 creators. Now we want to integrate all the modules in 1 project(my creator). we cant move classes from 1 project to another as it is time consuming (less RAM)
I have tried copying all jsps on my web folder, added managed beans.xml,navigation rules tags frm 2 diff machines on my managed-beans.xml, navigation rules
also copied respective java packages frm 2 diff creator in my src.
when i deployed my prj then my module is running fine but other modules are giving errors as "error getting property from xxx.Button"

• Saving Lens Profile Creator Project Files-advantage?

Dear Lens Profile Creators,
I have been saving my LPCP project files for every set of images for my profiles(all the same aperture is how I manage my sets). Is there an advantage to saving these project files? I have looked at these files in "notepad" and it does list each image file used in a given set, so I guess that would be the only advantage, to be able to go back in the future to se what images you had used. (note I am not talking of the actual profile files, the LCP files).
Thanks, Debra

Thanks Simon.
Yes, I do create my profiles in multiple sessions and append each resulting sub-profile to the profile itself. You do not have to save each "project", which is the LPCP file that I mentioned which contains the image file names for each set, but you do "Save" the profile results first to the main profile and then choose "Append" and after that, you could if you desire, invoke the "Save project as" command and then specify a LPCP file name, such as "Set1_17_55_D2X", and go on, or, you can simply "Save" to the appropriate profile name, the LCP file, and then append, and go on to the next set(without saving an LPCP file) to continue in processing your image sets and saving and appending to the main profile.

• Need Help Deploying Creator Project with Derby as Embedded

HI,
I have developed a web app using creator and the derby database instance that runs within creator. Now I want to war up the app and include the derby db as an embedded database. I have included the derby jar file in my lib directory and have created a new datasource with the derby embedded driver for testing. I cannot seem to get the db to run as embedded. My data source is setup as follows:
dataSource name="DerbyTest3"
driverClassName="org.apache.derby.jdbc.EmbeddedDriver"
url="jdbc:derby:../sample"
validationQuery="select * from "
username="dbadmin"
password="7237EACC50DB74EF"
/>
The sample database was copied from the creator source tree and inserted under WEB-INF
When I try to connect I get the following error:

One of our developers mentioned this, but it's also in the derby ref manual for the SQLException you're getting:
http://db.apache.org/derby/docs/10.2/ref/rrefattrib26867.html
sounds like you needed to append
;create=true
to the JDBC Url...

• How to Use Mobile Service in HTML/JavaScript Application

The Windows Azure Mobile Service is a back end tool for mobile applications. It supports various platforms, such as Windows Store, Windows Phone 8, iOS and Android. The Windows Azure
Mobile service can also support HTML/JavaScript. This article helps you to get a basic idea of how to use the Windows Azure Mobile Service in HTML/JavaScript applications.
Let us start with a Quick startup project provided by Microsoft. A Quick startup is a simple demo project that can help us to understand how to use the Windows Azure Mobile Service with HTML/JavaScript. So let's start from the Quick startup project.
Login into in the Windows Azure portal and use the following procedure.
This article assumes you already have a Windows Azure account and the mobile service is enabled in your account.
1. Create a new Windows Azure Mobile Service
Click on the +New button from the left corner and select Compute -> Mobile Service and then click on the "Create" button.
The Windows Azure portal popup creates a mobile service wizard when you click the Create button. Windows Azure asks you to enter the mobile service name as shown in the following image:
Select the database options and region for your mobile service and click on the "Next" button.
Once your mobile service is successfully created, the portal will show all your mobile services as shown in the following images.
Ok! We have created a new mobile service successfully. Let's move to our subsequent steps.
1. Quick startup Project
As we all know, the Windows Azure Mobile Service can support many platforms such as Windows Store, Windows Phone 8, iOS, Android and HTML/JavaScript. This article only tells us about the new HTML/JavaScript platform that is recently added to the Windows Azure
Mobile Service.
In the image above, we are in the quick startup page where the Windows Azure Mobile Service allows the user to choose their platform. I have selected the HTML/JavaScript Platform.
In the image above, we found 3 quick steps that can allow us to run <g class="gr_ gr_74 gr-alert gr_gramm Grammar" data-gr-id="74" id="74">a HTML/JavaScript</g> sample project.
1. Create Table: In this step the user needs to create a table that can used by the sample project, once you hit the create TodoItem Table button. The Portal will create a TodoItem table in your mobile service. You
can check this table by clicking on the data tab(menu).
2. Download and run your app: In this step the user needs to download the Quick startup project that is provided by the Windows Azure portal. Click on the "Download" button and download the project. You will
see the following files in the quick startup project.
The Server folder contains some files to setup this project locally. The user should run the file from the server folder corresponding to their OS. I am using Windows OS so I ran the <g class="gr_ gr_80 gr-alert gr_spell ContextualSpelling ins-del multiReplace"
data-gr-id="80" id="80">lanch</g>-<g class="gr_ gr_79 gr-alert gr_spell ContextualSpelling ins-del multiReplace" data-gr-id="79" id="79">windwos</g> file to setup this project locally in
IISExpress.
Press r and enter the key, you will see IISExpress started. Do not close this Windows and open your browser and request the http://localhost:8000/ page.
Enter the Item name and click on the add button. Your Item will be added to the TodoItem table.
3. Configure your host name: This step is a very important step for any HTML/JavaScript application that uses the Windows Azure Mobile Service. In this <g class="gr_ gr_83 gr-alert gr_gramm Punctuation only-ins
replaceWithoutSep" data-gr-id="83" id="83">step</g> the user must register their website name in the Cross-origin resource sharing (CORS). By default, "localhost" is added by the Windows Azure Mobile Service
so your quick startup project can run without making any CORS setting changes. The user can add their website domain name by clicking on the configure tab (menu).
The user can add as many website domain names as needed.

are you asking a question or did you just post a tutorial here? you might want to post it as a blog post or wiki entry instead.

• How can I hide a button with javascript in Captivate 8?

I need to run some javascript in my project and at the same time I want to hide a button, so I can't use advanced actions.

It is very strange, most users who have focus on JS try to do everything with it, whereas lot of simple actions can easily be done with advanced/shared actions. I will only go to JS when it is not possible with advanced/shared actions.
You are lucky, I was just restarting to work on an advanced training for next week when your question showed up.

• Javascript not working in swf output

I am working on a project where the quiz requirements are quite unique and not all that logical, but it's what the client requires...
I have a lot of courses ("lessons") for this project. I'm using a fully custom quiz for each lesson. Because of the sheer number of courses, and the unique requirements, I am trying to leverage javascript for this project as much as possible.
I must publish both HTML5 and Flash versions. While not contractually required to publish a swf version, I am pretty certain that having both formats available will avoid having to deal with all of the browser issues down the road (already seeing issues in IE 11 on the client's PC).
So for each quiz question slide I have smartshapes which are acting as clickable text captions, like this:
Question text....
A. Answer choice a
B. Answer choice b
C. Answer choice c
D. Answer choice d
Each of the above answer choices is a smartshape button that is set to 'Execute Javascript' on click. In the javascript panel for each I have the following:
CORRECT_ANSWER = 'q1b';
ANSWER_CHOICE = (event.target) ? event.target.id : event.srcElement.id;
evaluate_answer(ANSWER_CHOICE, CORRECT_ANSWER);
In an external 'quiz.js' file I have the evaluate_answer function, which looks like this:
*********** quiz.js *************
var evaluate_answer = function (answerChoice, correctAnswer) {
var answerChoice = window.cpAPIInterface.getVariableValue("ANSWER_CHOICE");
var correctAnswer = window.cpAPIInterface.getVariableValue("CORRECT_ANSWER");
if (answerChoice == correctAnswer) {
cp.show('fb_q1_correct');
cp.show('fb_q1_correct_next');
cp.show('q1_answer_disabler');
} else {
cp.show('fb_q1_incorrect');
cp.show('fb_q1_incorrect_next');
cp.show('fb_q1_incorrect_remediate');
cp.show('q1_answer_disabler');
*********** END quiz.js *************
The above works great in HTML5 output but not in the swf version. It looks like the swf version can't handle/pass the event.target, but that's just a guess.
Any ideas?

Hey again all,
The specific code importing the username isn't actually all that important, it's more of test to make sure that Javascript will actually work. I have a lot more code that needs to be processed as well, I'm using this as an example before I tackle the actual interworkings of the script. Therefore, I can't use a workaround, such as a system variable in the hyperlink, to pass the username.
I've now tried countless variations of methods of trying to run the JavaScript so far, including the ways that all of you have recommended. The only way the script will run is by my saving the file as a .htm and including an alert within the script in either the .htm file or in the .js file and calling from within the .htm. I haven't been able to get the process to run at all by including as an On Enter page action or as a .swf or by excluding the alert(). Can any of you get a Captivate 8 project with JavaScript to work as .swf alone on your server? Why does that alert have to before the setVariable in order for it to work in htm? I've changed the global security for Flash; is there another setting that I'm maybe missing?
Thank you all again for help. I'm completely stumped by this one!

• JavaScript load problem

Hi.
I want to add the bootstrap Js files in my project.
methods used for it was not successful.
<af:resource type="javascript" source="/resources/js/bootstrap.js"/>
Or
<afh:script type="javascript" src="resources/js/bootstrap.js"/>
Or

The project directory structure: http://i49.tinypic.com/ofuayx.png
After these operations of functions in Javascript does not work as expected, in fact, not work at all. (For example, of functions in alert and Popove)
What could be the reason for this?

User, please always tell us the jdev version you are using.
The af:resource tag should work. Check if you added the tag as a direct child of the af:document tag
<af:document>
<af:resource type="javascript" source="/customJsCode.js"/>
</af:document>More info can be found here http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/developer-tools/jdev/1-2011-javascript-302460.pdf
