Javascript value to hidden itterated HTML field

How can I write a javascript variable to a hidden input field in a struts page where the hidden field is part of an object in an ArrayList that is shown using logic iterate tag?
My Struts code is:
<logic:iterate name="ManageEntryPointForm" property="entrypoints" id="list" type="org.oclc.da.ndiipp.struts.domain.util.EntryPointBean" indexId="ii" >
     <% String changeCommand = "setChangeFlag('" + ii + "')"; %>
     <tr><html:hidden name="list" indexed="true" property="changeFlag" />
<logic:equal name="ManageEntryPointForm" property="editToken" value="Yes" >
<td><html:radio name="list" indexed="true" property="include" value="true" onchange="<%=changeCommand%>" /></td>
<td><html:radio name="list" indexed="true" property="include" value="false" onchange="<%=changeCommand%>" /></td>
</logic:equal>
     </tr>
</logic:iterate>
and my current javascript is:
function setChangeFlag(recNum)
alert("Record number " + recNum + " has been changed.");
document.ManageEntryPointForm.list[recNum].changeFlag="true";
alert("Record number " + recNum + " has been changed.");
This isn't working...
Help Please!

1. Does the javascript alert get called or not?
2. Do you get Javascript error?
Can you paste the output html by doing view source in the browser that will help.

  • How is URL encoding done by Agentry for HTML Fields ?

    Hello All!
    I have an HTML Field that has a few url parameters defined and one of the values for a parameter contains a pipe delimiter i.e. " | ".
    When agentry constructs the final url for iPad platforms, the HTML field is not rendered at all and a page error shows up.
    If I manually encode | to %7C as per URL encoding rules Agentry in turn encodes the escape character '%'  to %25 by itself!
    How can I turn off encoding in value attribute of a html field ?
    Any help is appreciated
    Cheers
    Shaunak

    Hey Kevin,
    Nope. This would be a limitation in how Agentry handles urls.
    No workaround possible here so we had to make do with limited functionality.

  • Javascript: set value of hidden item

    Hi,
    I have a select list and a hidden item on my page, after select a value, I want to write this value (and a little bit more) to the hidden item.
    So I have done the following...
    applied to page html header:
    <script language="JavaScript" type="text/javascript">
    function setExpress(item_id)
    html_GetElement('P230_HIDDEN').value = 'Test ' + html_GetElement(item_id).value;
    </script>
    and in selection list I set the HTML Form Element Attributes to onChange="setExpress(this.id); .
    But nothing is written to the hidden item. When I make it a text field it works correct.
    Isn't it possible to set a value of hidden item by javascript? Is there another way to do this (without computation)?
    Thanks for help
    chrissy

    Hello chrissy,
    I don't see the connection between the item being Hidden or Text. The item id stays the same, and so the JavaScript reference to it.
    It is possible to assign values to hidden items using JavaScript, just as you did. In the following page - http://htmldb.oracle.com/pls/otn/f?p=22814:8
    -you can see a working example of your situation – select list populate a hidden item, then display by using alert.
    After selecting from the list you should TAB out, so it will fire the JavaScript event. In your example, you were using onChange. I think that could be problematic in cases were the default value (first value) of the select list is the one chosen – no change there. In my example, I'm using onBlur.
    You can see the JavaScript on the source page.
    Hope this help,
    Arie.

  • When i hide some fields from the Editform using javascript, what will happen to the fields that hve been hidden

    I am working on an EnterpriseWiki site collection, and when users edit the page properties as follow:-
    then will get all the fields inside the EnterpriseWiki content type as follow:-
    now i want to hide all the fields except the ; Title & Name, so i edit the EditForm and i add the following script:-
    <script>
    $('#formTbl tr').filter(function ()
    return !$(".ms-standardheader", this).text().match(/Name|Title/i);
    }).remove();
    </script>
    so currently when users edit the wiki page properties they can only edit the Name & Title, because the script hide the other fields.
    My question is what will happen to the other values such as the page content, assign to , etc that have been hidden.. I test this and seems that when editing the name and title the other values will not get effected which is what i need, but not sure how
    did SharePoint handle this, i was afraid that hiding the other columns will set their values as null or empty if the user save the editform with only the title and name inside it ? can anyone adivce on this ?

    Hi John,
    From your description, my understanding is that you are worried about the values of some fields
     will been saved as empty if you hide them in EditForm.
    If you hide some fields in EditForm, it means that you could not edit them. These fields’ values will not be changed after editing Title field or Name field. When you click Save button, they will be still the values before changing the Title field or Name
    field.

    i found this very critical issue with hiding the fields from the edit form, now i wrote the following script inside the edit form , to hide all the fields except the Name
    <script>
    $(document).ready(function(){
    $('#formTbl tr').filter(function () {
    return !$(".ms-standardheader", this).text().match(/Name/i); }).hide();
    $('#ctl00_ctl40_g_6c7d849e_da6b_4138_be9f_b99bde542065_ctl00_ctl02_ctl00_ctl04_c‌ tl00_WebPartMaintenancePageLink').hide(); });
    </script>"
    . and now if I submit the editform (which only contain the Name) all the html tables inside the wiki page content will be removed.

  • Passing values to hidden fields in screens

    Hi ,
    I have designed a screen which has i field which is output only, and two fields which are hidden.. the output only field gets populated when i select value from an alv tht pops up on the screen based on certain conditions.. the hidden fields should also be populated than.. but the hidden fields are not getting populated i think..
    i have assigned a t-code to this screen,
    and i need to call this transaction from another program passing values to all the fields.. i used parameter id for all teh fields, but values are not getting populated in the hidden and display fields. i gets in when i make it input enabled.. but i cannot let users enter values in 1 field, and i do not want users to see the other field.. What do i do???? please give your valuable suggestions. .a ny idea how to correct the issue?
    Regards,
    Suzie

    Hi,
    If you want one of the fields to be grey mode you can do that statically in the screen painter or dynamically in the progarm
    in PBO
    loop at screen
    if screen-name = 'TO_BE_GREY_MODE'.
    SCREEN-INPUT = 0
    ENDIF
    endloop
    for hidden fields if the screen name and the variable name in the program are same the data transfer takes place but the users cannot see this.

  • HTML/Javascript etc being ran via text fields

    Hello everyone,
    I was just wondering what the implications of a user inputting javascript and other tags are on fields. Is this something to be worried about?
    I realise that it's perfectly possible to insert hyperlinks and what not into a database table this way, so that when they are reported back through Apex, they will appear as the link. But could it be possible to run javascript and other code just from a text field on a screen which also contains a submit button?
    I just want to know how far I need to be careful with such things.
    Thanks in advance for your help!
    Robin
    Edit: Also, what implications do pages with submit functions have on validations created in Apex? If javascript was input into a text field to run on submit, would the validation pick it up, as they seem to run after the page has been submitted?

    Thanks for your help, guys!
    Basically, I've already got a function set up using regular expressions to filter out anything bar spaces inside any <> brackets, so it will return an error.
    I wish I could use a generic escape special characters builtin, but users will sometimes wish to use these characters, so I have to get a bit more detailed.
    What I'm worried about are apex validations...they appear to work after a submit...surely if a page is submitted, then any XSS will run and the effects be carried out?
    Are apex validations for pages and items to be relied upon in these cases? For the most part, when it comes to inserting into a table, I have a js script on a button that fires before the page is submitted in order to prevent anything in <> being inserted into a table. Validations don't have this effect though, and only seem to run on a submit. Isn't running on a submit too late?
    Thanks for your help.
    Robin
    Edit: Just to let you know that I've done my own testing on it, and think that validations do prevent the code running on submit, but just want to be sure, as I know they'll be people who know more than me on the subject.
    I input this
    &lt;script&gt;onsubmit="alert('Hello world');"&lt;/script&gt;
    into a text field and clicked submit with and without a validation attached to the text item, but both didn't interpret the javascript; is this because there's some kind of builtin in Apex that prevents this happening, or is it that other examples of code would be interpreted?

    JSP/Java runs at the server side, produces a HTML page, sends it to the client side and then stops running.
    HTML, containing under each CSS and JS, arrives at the client side and runs at the client side only.
    To invoke JSP/Java using HTML you need to fire a request to the server side. That can be either a plain vanilla <a> link, a <form> to be submitted or an asynchronous Ajaxical request.
    That said, the use of ActiveX in web applications is discouraged. It's a Microsoft IE proprietaty. With other words, it isn't and won't be supported by all alternative browsers which the other half of the world is using.

  • SPD Workflow - Update a hidden/read only field

    Hi there,
    I have a list with a hidden/read only field (ie Status).  So the user cannot update this field using the form or datasheet ...etc.
    I have an SPD workflow that I was hoping would modify the value of the Status field.  But it appears as though the option to modify it is not available as long as it is hidden and/or read-only.  Aka, the field doesn't show up in the list of fields
    to modify for the "Set field on current item" action.
    I was hoping to avoid importing this into a visual studio project and adding in code, which I believe would do the trick; so are there any solutions that I can do within SPD itself?
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi Eirc,
                       as i understand you question  you want to update hidden filed from workflow ?
     solution 1 when workflow started it change field read only to false and after completing workflow
    change it again true.  by code.
    Solution 2 Use javascript to make the field read only on presentation.
    http://sputility.codeplex.com/ check this lib that might help you to manage readonly field on runtime
    Solution 3 : you achieve by setting column level permission

    Thank you for your reply,,,
    I think then the only way to do it is to post the
    value on the server and then use request.getParameter
    method in jsp code
    but the question now how can I post values to the
    server using JavaScript without reloading the pageyes... you can to it by create a new popup window which will submit the value to server after page was loaded... then, server return a value to the same window in html/jsp page which then using javascript to set it back to the opener and close up the window... however, this is not a good choice unless you have no other alternative...
    >
    There is other possible solution
    if I can get the text field value from the same page
    without reloading it that would work fine and will
    solve my problem, is it possible?yes... you can get the value from the textfield...
    for example :
    function showValueInTextField()
        alert(document.forms[0].elements["mytextfieldname"].value);
    >
    My final question> can jsp change things on the same
    page without reloading it. I mean can it work like
    JavaScript so that I can use it's internal functions
    instead of using java script :S
    not really know what you trying to say here...

  • Problem with Html field naming and java script

    Java Script which references html fields uses the
    notation "document.form[0].field". JATO generates field names which
    include the page (view bean). A dot is placed between viewbean name and
    field name(viewbean.field). However "document.form[0].viewbean.field"
    doesn't work as a reference. I'm not a java script person. Am I
    missing something?

    that's correct. You can use the below code for AJAX request.
    <script type="text/javascript">
    var httpObject = getHTTPObject();
    //create XMLHttpRequest object
    function getHTTPObject() {
         var xmlhttp;

              catch ( e ){
                   try{
                        xmlhttp = new ActiveXObject("Microsoft.XMLHTTP");
                   catch ( e ){}
         return xmlhttp;
    //define the function to send the request
    function sendRequest(){
        var currDesc = document.getElementById("description").value;
        var URL =  "manageMaintAction.do"; //action mapping in your struts-config
        var queryString = "currDesc="+escape(currDesc); //get the currDesc value in your action class like request.getParameter("currDesc")
        httpObject.open( "Post", URL, true );
        httpObject.onreadystatechange = cbFn;
        httpObject.setRequestHeader( "Content-Type", "application/x-www-form-urlencoded");
        httpObject.send(queryString);
    //callback fn
    function cbFn() {
        if (httpObject.readyState == 4)
             if (httpObject.status == 200)
              var result = httpObject.responseText;
              alert(result);

  • How Can I Set a Javascript Value into an Attribute of BSP PAGE

    Hi
    Can anyone tell me.
    How Can I Set a Javascript Value into an Attribute of BSP PAGE

    Hi Mithlesh,
    javascript runs on client side and you cannot assign the value to a Page attribute directly.
    As a workaround,you can use an Inputfield,hidden if required,and set the value using javascript.Then the form will have to be submit to be able to read the value in onInputProcessing and then can be assigned to any variable.
    In Layout
    <head>
    <script language="javascript">
    function pass()
       txt1 = document.getElementById("ip_mrf");
       txt.value = "hello" ;
    </script>
    </head>
    <htmlb:inputField  id="ip_mrf"
                               value="<%=mrf_number%>"
                               visible="FALSE"/>
    in onInputProcessing
    cha1 = request->get_form_field( 'ip_mrf' ).
    where cha1 is the page attribute
    hope this helps,

    Thanks in advance...

    You can't. As is stated here about 3 times a day, Java, the JSP code, and servlets run on the Server, while javascript runs on the client (in the browser). By the time javascript begins to run, the JSP is compiled, run, the response generated and sent to the browser as HTML.
    The only means to do this is to send the variable back to the browser by requesting the same or another page and including the javascript value as a parameter to that page.
