Javaupdate=0 is a joke

I am trying to deploy java 5.0 update 9. In an enterprise environment I would think everyone else would be on the same page with me and wouldn't want 1000 computers setup to autoupdate and downlod from sun. Our current installs have autoupdate turned off. but no matter what I do with jre switches it decides to turn itself back on in the control panel after opening a webpage that starts the applet.
jre-1_5_0_09-windows-i586-p-s.exe /s ADDLOCAL=ALL IEXPLORER=1 REBOOT=Suppress JAVAUPDATE=0
jre-1_5_0_09-windows-i586-p-s.exe /s IEXPLORER=1 JAVAUPDATE=0
jre-1_5_0_09-windows-i586-p-s.exe /s ADDLOCAL=ALL IEXPLORER=1 REBOOT=Suppress JAVAUPDATE=0 SlapSunInFace=99

Unfortunately, you selected the wrong forum for your post.
This isn't for questions about Java or JRE when used on desktop computers.
Glance at the top of the forum page, where it describes the Java Desktop Syatem:

  • 3 months left with Verizon. Eligable upgrade is a joke & 'm sick of Verizon & its lies & pricing

First of all, I was a happy Alltel customer. Happy with my plan, my service, my reception etc. Then Verizon took over my reception became mediocre, and then I accepted a job offer in New Bern, NC. From the day I got here, I had problems with my reception and service. I could not have a conversation with my family 4 hours away with out multiple dropped calls or poor reception. Both areas were in the red areas which meant that there was coverage and plenty of it. Finally after numerous calls to Customer Service and numerous visits to the New Bern Verizon store we were told by Verizon that the only way we could solve this problem was to upgrade to a Verizon brand phone. We upgraded from a Samsung Hue to a LG ENV 3. We were also told that we could not keep our Alltel plan family share 1000 minutes and unlimited text. We had to upgrade to a 1400 family share plan with unlimited text which was about a $30.00 a month increase. But it was the lowest plan we could get and keep our 10 friends & family plan. We also added a phone for our son, since we were in a new area and felt he needed to have one in the event of an emergency. Okay so we thought our dilemma was over.
Then shortly after wards we were getting charged for data usage. I would talk to Verizon customer service and question why there were multiple data charges when we did not use data. I was basically shrugged off by customer service every time I brought it up. Finally I called when I noticed that there was a data charge on my phone that I did not make, I remembered that day clearly and I hadn't used my phone all day. Even the bill reflected that day no calls were made or received. Long story short after a year of being charged here and there on each of the phones I finally totaled my bills up and took it to the New Bern Corporate store. The store employees were not helpful and frankly didn't want to waste their time with me. I asked to speak to the manager, Kendall Greenhill, who blatantly asked why I waited a year to come to them. I told him that I had been complaining for year and no one, no one was taking care of it. He was unhelpful and didn't want to hear it. I asked why there were people who were in the same boat as me not using data, but being charged that I read this and heard this on the news and why was I different? After several hours of my time and being talked down to, I walked out without any resolution. It took another week and I did finally get a 40.00 credit from Customer Service, so.. another dilemma finally after a year of complaining.. finally over.
NOW... here is the new problem with Verizon. I have a little over 3 months to go on my 2 year contract, I have been flooded with text messages, emails etc regarding upgrading our phones. I wasn't planning on upgrading, but I unfortunately left my cell phone on the shelve in the bathroom and on vibrate, and when my alarm went off, it vibrated itself right into the toilet this past weekend. SO- I figure okay.. time to upgrade, and if I am going to do one, I might as well do 2 if not all 3 phones. EXCEPT.. all the feature phones that are offered to me are not in the same league as the ENV 3 they are a downgrade in quality.. and so I look at the Smart phones, well they require a 30.00 data package for each one. OMG. I am already paying 155.00 a month for 3 phones 1400 family share & unlimited text . That would clearly make my bill well over 250.00 a month. In this economy, I really need a phone that is decent and the plan cost to be affordable. That being said, I have also seen the need for the usage of internet on the phone at times. And if we are going to upgrade why do a lateral switch on a phone when all the normal cell phones are being phased out and smart phones and androids are becoming more common?
Why get a phone just to replace what I lost and be locked into another 2 years and not be able to take advantage of the newer phones?
Well after my unfortunate accident with my phone, I had decided to check in the offers I have received recently and in past months, I normally keep all my emails from Verizon and put them in my Verizon Mail Folder, or if I have a offer that we find appealing or information that is useful we will just bookmark it to our Verizon Folder. I had such an offer back during the winter, and at the time we were not eligible for an phone upgrade, it is the Talk and Text Plus Data Promo. There were 2 plans, one was the for Single lines the other Family SharePlans.

Basically you get for $139.00 for the first two lines : 1400 anytime minutes, unlimited text; unlimited vzw m2m, unlimited data, then $19.99 per extra line. Great. I double checked, there is no expiration no offer ends date. My husband called both customer service and the New Bern Corporate store, no one had heard of this promotion, and after researching it after he tried to explain it to everyone he spoke to, the response then then was "oh", that promotion has expired. But why is the link still active? The ad clearly has no offer ends date, no expiration date..regardless, again my husband called both the Customer Service and then Kendall Greenhill the manager at the New Bern store. Both were very unhelpful and acted as if they cared less.
My husband was directed to call the loyalty department who basically twisted what my husband said and called him liar and round about ways and accused him of just now opening up old Verizon Emails. That we could not get that promo it was expired.... All this when my husband was trying to make the sarcastic rep understand that this was a offer we have saved in our bookmarks and there was NO experation date at all. The Loyalty rep again was making my husband out to be a liar by saying there was 3 pages with detail information of it's experation date.

Do you see a experation date or a 3rd page Verizon???????????????????????????
After a heated conversation, in front of the Verizon authorized dealer in New Bern, we went in and spoke to a representative Tammy (who was helpful and nice). She looked at our promo and called customer service and spoke to a supervisor named Sharon, who after researching the information told her to direct us back to the Verizon Corp Store, that they were authorized to give us the promo andthat she would note our account and have them check it and they would take care of us.
We did as we were told, we drove to the store, and Scott (bad problems before with him) was the salesperson who talked to us. We told him about the conversation with Tammy and what the supervisor Sharon told us and he remembered over hearing Kendall Greenhill's conversation earlier that day and checked our account and claimed there were no notes and that they couldn't authorize this promotion even if they were told to. My husband immediately called customer service from his cell phone and the person he spoke to saw the notes on the computer. We asked Scott to call Customer Service and double check. Lets just say, the store again was unhelpful and would not go one blink out of their way to try to resolve this. We drove back to the authorized dealer, and spoke to Tammy again, who called again, and after a lengthy conversation with a woman named Martina Williams,(who is the only Verizon Rep on the phone that seemed to care and was nice) she has put in a request to accept this offer. So we have to wait to see if our offer is “acceptable”. And that is where I stand right now. I am so upset at the lengths my husband and I have to go through with Verizon. My thing is that if you go the store, and the loaf bread has a sale sign on it for 99 cents and the cashier rings it up at 3.00 shouldn't she honor the price of 99 cents? The sticker has no end date, no offer expires...
Tomorrow night we might go to the Verizon store but if we do it will be in Morehead City or Greenville NC which is 45 minutes away(More gas $ and time). Why? Because Every since we have lived here in New Bern. The reps at the New Bern Corporate Store has always been unhelpful or rude. And I'll be D%MM if we will deal with them anymore!!! Our quality of customer service experience with Verizon since day one has been awful and to deal with the local New Bern store just amplifies the pain. Since Saturday we have put in countless hours on the phone & internet and multiple trips to Verizon. Who pays us for our time and troubles? Yet Verizon , all they care about is the $$$ and not customer service.
Maybe I should just order a crap used phone from ebay. Finish our contract with Verizon and when October comes switch to ATT and get 3 (better selection) smart phones with just enough data on each phone, the same 1400.00 minutes and unlimited text and all calls (ALL) to cellphones are free for 160.00 a month plus tax...
The ball is in your court Verizon.
YOUR CUSTOMER LOYALTY IS A JOKE!!!!!

I have been having issues with my phone. The problems started after only having my brand new phone for 2 months. I called customer service and they tried resetting my phone. Unfortunately, that didn't fix it. I thought I could live with the phone with its problems until it got worse. I am having to take out the battery several times daily to restart the phone. My phone charger suddenly stopped working and my text messages would not come through without taking out the battery. It reboots when I unlock my phone. It randomly shuts off. The battery life does not last even when it's fully charged. I took my phone to my local Verizon store looking for help. The representative was disrespectful, refused to talk to the Verizon customer service rep on the phone, and threatened me. I left the store crying. When I got home, I called Verizon customer service and after 2 days I still don't have a solution. They don't have the replacement phone in stock. I was told it could be up to 6 months before the new shipment. I have never seen such horrible customer service. My contract with Verizon has over a year left and I just want a working smartphone (which is what I paid for). My boyfriend wants to cancel our contract because we can't get any satisfaction from Verizon.

Seems pretty clear to me. Even though they do not give an expiration date, it is certainly implied that it will expire at some point. If they give you the deal, then great. If they don't give you the deal, though, it seems that you are just crying for something that you don't deserve and that Verizon has no obligation to provide for you.

iTunes 7 is a joke stop trying to fix what isn't broken

Between being still wet, and energized multiple times, it almost certainly has suffered permanent damage from shorting circuits.  I would just get a replacement at this point and be done with it.
As mentioned, either an AppleCare+ accidental damage claim, if you can do so, or pay the out of warranty replacement for a like new service unit.

As stated in your first post - this phone was given to you by your brother.  So no you actually haven't spent any money on the iphone or Apple.
    You can't quit trolling now.

  • :D The Joker Challenge

    <b>UPDATED: Date extended to 10th October!</b>
The last few weeks have been interesting. Twice, during discussions with customers (minor problem handling in OSS) we were told that they are going live with their own developed BSP application, rollout always to more than 10000 users! We only hear about this when an OSS problem ticket is opened. Seldom do we know about the projects being done with BSP. Real life "war" stories are always the best!
This afternoon, while watching the Three Musketeers with my daughter, Mark was penning the <a href="/people/mark.finnern/blog/2004/09/17/the-three-sdn-musketeers version</a> of this epic story. One thing led to another. Doing some back of the envelope calculations with the input <a href="https://www.sdn.sap.com/sdn/index.sdn?page=crp_prize2.htm">cool geeky prizes</a> and my position as <a href="https://www.sdn.sap.com/sdn/index.sdn?content=http://www.sdn.sap.comhttp://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/servlet/prt/portal/prtroot/pcd!3aportal_content!2fSDN!2fiViews!2fcom.sap.sdn.folders.pointsrewardsystem!2fcom.sap.sdn.crp.iviews.topcontributors&contenttype=url">Top Contributors</a>, gave the output anything from an iPod up to a <b>HP iPAQ!</b>
Let us use this joker card!
In the next week I will work very hard to answer questions in the BSP forum (and beg for points earned!). In addition, I will try to complete one more weblog (even although Thomas snagged my next topic!). With this, I am gunning to have one prize at the end of the week.
With this prize, I would like to sponsor the joker challenge. I am interested to know what people are doing with BSP. I am asking for people to write weblogs about the work they have done with BSP. <b>I will transfer my prize to the best weblog!</b> See rules below.
This means, that you can start today with zero points, write one weblog, and be catapulted right to the top prize (assuming I can hold the position one more week)! An HP iPAQ is winking.
    The game is on!
    regards, brian
<u><b>RULES</b></u> (To ensure a fair challenge!)
    o) I am offering a prize which I do not yet have. I can not guarantee that I will get any prize, or which one. All I can say is that I will in this week work very hard to stay at the top. This will require that everyone in the forum take the time to review answered questions and assign the marks. However, the final risk is (unfortunately) with you.
    o) <b>The deadline for submissions is the 10th of October</b> [updated!](we accept all weblogs with this date stamp). Yes, this is after the SDN competition close. If you wish to also earn marks with the SDN challenge, then the deadline is still upcoming Friday. Important is just that I earn points until this Friday to get the prize. Then you know what prize is up for grabs and have more time to write!
    o) Speaking of writing, here is expectations (and the mininal requirements):
-- Must be written in English.
-- You must have permission from the company owning the BSP application to write the weblog
-- The title must be of the form "BSP In Action: ...". The "..." can be any sub-title of your choosing.
-- In the introduction section, the company must be explicitly named, including geographical data and a company logo. This is important so that we see that these are real world stories! (If this is not acceptable for your company, email me, and we can negotiate to remove this contraint!)
-- It must be a weblog of a minimum two A4 pages (when printed)
-- Very important: it must contain a minimum of three screenshots. Grey out any confidential information.
-- The text should give an high level overview of the problem (vaguely if confidential),  should discussion some sizing numbers (number of users, number of BSPs, developers,  application servers, etc). The most important section will be decisions taken section. Typical examples: "we used MVC, because..."; "we decided to go stateless as..."; "we did not use HTMLB, but our own HTML to achieve...."; "interesting aspects are the use of IGS, ...". If you were not a developer of the BSP application, we will accept as alternative a section describing in some detail the functionality of the application. Typical examples: "allows us to enter weekly data...", "give good statistic information..."; "have this nice feature ... that  ....", etc.
-- Code samples are not required
-- We do not require a life demo or link.
    o) Judging: Only weblogs with the title "BSP in Action: ..." dated between today and maximum 3rd October will be accepted. If you have difficulty to quickly get your weblog online, email me ([email protected]) a Word document in time to place it online for you. The actual winning decision will be made by three colleagues that are real BSP experts. I will not decide! In addition, any remarks on this thread (and this thread only) about any of these weblogs will also be included into making a final decision. So getting as many other people as possible to give favourable comments on your weblog in this thread is definitely going to help you! Please understand that I do not have the infrastructure to handle an online voting, etc. I trust in the opinion of my three colleagues and the noise here! The decision is final and not negotiable!
    o) What/how will be judged: the size/importance of the project will play no role. The quality of the writing will not be judged. The most important criteria will be the detail of the information presented. The more you tell, with the more detail, the higher your chances are. Screenshots will also be weight heavily! Both positive and negative aspects will be weighted equally. We are interested in the true "war" stories, and can handle the heat in the kitchen. A happy end would be nice
    o) Who can participate? Effectively anyone. What is <b>NOT</b> allowed, is to write about BSP applications developed at SAP. Also <b>NOT</b> acceptable are weblogs
about modifications to such SAP developed BSP apps. Accepted will be weblogs about any BSP applications developed done by or for customers. As author of the weblog, it is not required that you actually participated in the BSP developed. You can be an user of the application, a tester, someone that helped in the design, anyone! We are interested in the scope of the developments. What is also perfectly acceptable, is that (SAP) consultants write about BSP applications developed at/for customers (only with their express permission!). It is also quite acceptable that more than one person write about the same BSP development (just don't spoil the working atmosphere with your colleagues:). It would be nice if those people already on track to win a price not participate, but this is only asked and not explicitly prohibted.
    o) What to do if I just stumbled into this forum and we have never before developed any BSP applications? For this, we will also accept all weblogs that write about development using other SAP technologies. For example applications developed in SAP Enterprise Portal, or using Web Dynpro for Java, or even acceptable is an application developed in SAPGUI. However, this must be an application developed at and for a customer, and not any SAP development! The above rules for judging still apply! Most important is that you still use the title format "BSP In Action: ...".  We leave the "...." open for your imagination and will see how you bend it to fit:)
    o) Finally, please accept that I have exactly this one prize (which I must still earn!) for the challenge. Unfortunately only one person can win. However, in the end everyone will win, as there is nothing more interesting than reading how other people tackled problems and made a success!
<b><i>So start writing today: given that at least three screenshots are required, it should not be difficult to fill at least two pages!</i></b>

Last night the Joker Challenge quietly came to an end. This morning I peeked into SDN and into my mailbox.
At a first glance, it does not seem that all that many weblogs made it into SDN. But looks can be slightly deceiving in this case. Officially three articles were published, over which I am very happy. In addition, I have received two additional descriptions by email, which can unfortunately not be shared. One text was rejected by the "owning" company (all top secret, I was not even told the name!). For one project, the consultant gave me a live demo, and then I could quickly help with some debugging. One or two were promised, but I suspect exchanged for a good holiday stateside (would have been my decision as well!). So, even if it has not been possible to share everything, I have definitely learned a lot about what is been done with BSP out there. Which makes me achieve my goals.
Three "BSP in Action" weblogs have been published. Each one has been excellent to read, and has shown the time and effort that was invested into both the BSP development, and the writing of these weblogs.
Thomas Jung opened the dance with <a href="/people/thomas.jung3/blog/2004/09/20/bsp-in-action-kimball-international">BSP in Action: Kimball International</a>. This was a very impressive piece of writing and especially that "will code ABAP for food" photo made me wonder whether it is time to learn Java. Gracefully, Thomas has declined to participate, as he had <a href="https://www.sdn.sap.comhttp://www.sdn.sap.comhttp://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/servlet/prt/portal/prtroot/com.sap.km.cm.docs/documents/a1-8-4/sdn%20at%20sap%20teched%2004%20san%20diego%20_%20a%20new%20experience.article">already hauled away a 21" LCD flat-screen monitor</a>. The final <a href="/people/mark.finnern/blog/2004/10/06/well-deserved was given by Mark!
Days later, Stefan Riedel-Seifert followed this up with <a href="/people/stefan.riedel-seifert/blog/2004/09/23/bsp-in-action-mmmendresshauser">BSP in Action: MMM@Endress+Hauser</a>. And although we have known about this project for a long time, this was the first time that we have actually "seen" it. We spend hours ogling at the screenshots. A few emails later, and we were richer a number of bits and pieces of coding. We actually learned a thing or two! Hopefully soon, Stefan will write a new weblog, to show us a few more of his tips and tricks (handling of Excel!).
About the last entry, <a href="/people/ulli.hoffmann2/blog/2004/10/11/bsp-in-action-strategic-freight-procurement-with-basf-epilog">BSP in Action: Strategic Freight Procurement with BASF EPILOG</a>, which reached my mailbox last night, I was also very happy. We have known Ulli already a very long, probably since his and our first BSP days. As external consultant he has even worked a while for the BSP-team and certainly knows his stuff! (About that new 640 logon application he did, we must still write a weblog. It has many new features and should soon replace the old SYSTEM application as standard. Unfortunately only in 640.) The EPILOG project has everything in it that a good B2B application should have. Write once, save money every day.
I would not like to write to much about each weblog, more than to say I have thoroughly enjoyed reading them. And I also hope that the rest of the forum did share the pleasure (even although comments have been rare?). Each of these three weblogs have shown beyond doubt that BSP is an enabling technology with which to develop industrial strength applications.
This morning I have requested the three judges to make the final call. At least, with Thomas already happy with his 21" screen, it reduced to only two excellent weblogs in the running. I am glad that I did not have to make the final call. And as was expected, it took hours of deliberation (hopefully they did not had to flip a coin:).
And the winner is: .....Stefan Riedel-Seifert!
A thorough interrogation of the judges showed that it was a close call. In the end, they were swayed by the "work of love" (their words). The E+H development was done using only hand-written HTML (started in 610 days before the HTMLB library), and really shows the BSP power to achieve pixel-perfect rendering!
To everyone that has participated, both in the weblogs published and the private ones received, I wish to say thank you! I have enjoyed these "war" stories to the maximum.
    regards, brian

  • Why is the 4G Network such a joke?

Every week it seems there is another outage and nobody at Verizon cares. Customer service is a joke now. All you do it is get transferred to some under educated feeb that tells you everything is fine and to reboot your phone!! IT IS NOT THE PHONE. Get it yet Verizon? Your network is failing, ALOT. I have yet to meet anyone who says 4G is worth anything. Now, today again, 3G and 4G are suddenly dead. Not shocking seeing as how they have been robbing Americans blind for years with poorly performing devices, an over subscribed network, poor customer service and outrageous prices. Short Verizon stock. 2012 will be a rough year for them if this continues.

    Hmm...
I can't decide, based on your recent posts and including this new topic as well, if you are here to get help or to just bash Verizon Wireless.
    If you want help, here:
    What phone do you have?
Do you EVER get 4g (honestly) or does it just say 3G?  I realize you are only getting 1X now.
Have you had VZW file a ticket for your phone number to see if there is a problem with your area?  What did they say?
Where are you having service issues?
What phone did you have before?
Did you have service with Verizon Wireless before your current phone?
What was the service like then?
What exactly is the problem?  Meaning this, yes you are losing signal but what are trying to do that you cannot accomplish right now?
Every phone is different, do you have the following installed on your phone:  Juice Defender or any battery saver, a task killer, a network managing application, have you changed any settings on your own in the phone?  Has a representative changed any settings in your phone?  Do you have an anti-virus application?
How many miles are you from Canada?

  • Apple Mail is a joke, isn't it?

    Apple Mail is totally unreliable.
It loses connection with the mail server, and you have no idea when or why, but the Connection Doctor says "everything is working perfectly!"
Sent messages get stuck in the Outbox; sometimes they've actually been sent, sometimes not, no way to know unless you send a follow-up email (from a separate email client, asking the person if it was received or not -- it really enhances your professionalism).
Moving an email to a different folder causes the email to disappear until you either close/open Mail or rebuild the mailbox or clap your hands 28,000 times.
Image attachments are conveniently ruined when they reach the recipient, unless they prefer their images to be completely unviewable.
    Apple Mail is a joke.
I have spent hours on Support Communities looking for real answers.  99% of the answers are Apple fanboys giving worn-out unhelpful answers to people looking for real help (for example, "Maybe you shouldn't be using Yahoo mail, get a real email address" or the infamous "Maybe you should get a different ISP, because it's definitely not your infallible Mac" and a treasure trove of other completely useless troll-worthy nonsense).
I cannot believe that EMAIL, which even AMERICA ONLINE figured out, CANNOT be handled by Apple's Mail application. **** are you kidding me?  This POS email application needs attention, Apple.  I don't care how pretty you make it, make it work!  I mean for GOD's SAKE even LOTUS NOTES can handle email properly.
    Thanks,
    Me

    > I can confirm that iCloud, Gmail, and Office365 Exchange works without any issue in Yosemite.
I doubt that. Since upgrading to Yosemite, Mail with Office365 does not work for me. I have provided a detailed description here:
Exchange email is invisible in Mail app, rebuild doesn't help
Email that absolutely is present in the inbox, and that all other email programs show, are simply not visible in Mail. Rebuilding the inbox doesn't help, instead it makes things worse. The connection is fine, because I can send and receive new mail.

  • Apple TV and NBA - WHAT A JOKE

I purchased Apple TV mainly to watch NBA games using my league pass. What a joke. Constant buffering!. Instead of saying the game is live it should give the score of the game and say "buffering" I hope I can sell this thing on eBay because is nothing more than a glorified coaster in my opinion.

Although I loved hearing your rant, we really don't want it here.

  • Apple's 10.6 software compatibility kb document a total joke.

    Umm...
have people looked at this doc http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3258 ?
would i be forgiven for suggesting this article was a joke?
    I hardly need say why...
(it has not even been modified since Aug 28!)
    really quite extraordinary.

    is there anything missing?!
    now i think you're joking!
look for every piece of software in this list which does not have an OK status http://snowleopard.wikidot.com/
Presumably almost every one you find should be in Apple's list of incompatible software. Is it?

A friend of mine sent 2000  texts as a joke. Now my phone reads his phone not as an iPhone. I was able to send iMessages before untill he did his prank. How do I get it back to where we can send iMessages again?

Firstly, slap your friend across the back of the head. Secondly, Remove his number as "iphone" save the contact.
have him send another iMessage (make sure it sends as iMessage not text) and it should register as his full number (XXX)XXX-XXXX. add that to "existing contact" as iphone, reply as imessage. should work.

Can't find de option "NONE" on Payment Type... is this tutorial a joke?

I've just tried it and it shows 'none' as an option for me.  You are creating a new account and have followed the instructions exactly e.g. you've selected a free app in the store and clicked on 'create Apple ID' when 'buying' it ?

  • Joker characters in the search and replace function

    Hello everyone,
    Just a quick question :
I was wondering what character can be used as a joker character in the search and replace function (I did a research in the site, but didn't find any thread)
To be clear, I have misspelled a word, for example «trouser».
I know I didn't make any mistake with the first and last letter, but sometimes I wrote it «tourser», «turoser»
(sorry if there is a weird meaning, i'm french, and for me it won't mean anything, so don't take it personally)
I would like to be able te replace all the versions of «trouser», even the good ones, using «t*****r» in the search and replace function.
I tried the «*» character, but it's not the jocker.
Thank you for your help !

As I can't edit my first message, just wanted to let you know it's also called «wildcard» characters
Like here (Careful, it's… Ms Office)
