JD3 - Business Components - DB connection

1- I am using the Oracle JDBC thin driver, named host (I also
tryed with TNS)
in Step 3 of the wizard when I click anyx of the check boxes
(tables, views ,etc..) appear the following message
SQL error
ORA-03115: unsoported network datatype or representation
Java.Sql.SQLException
2- I also tryed using a JDBC - ODBC connection but the wizard
doesn't provide the next button (all the fiels in step 2 appear
empty or with (?) ).
Any idea?
Thanks

The thin driver should work. Are you able to get a simple JDBC
example working?
* This sample shows how to list all the names from the EMP table
* It uses the JDBC THIN driver. See the same program in the
* oci7 or oci8 samples directories to see how to use the other
drivers.
// You need to import the java.sql package to use JDBC
import java.sql.*;
class Employee
public static void main (String args [])
throws SQLException
// Load the Oracle JDBC driver
DriverManager.registerDriver(new
oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleDriver());
// Connect to the database
// You must put a database name after the @ sign in the
connection URL.
// You can use either the fully specified SQL*net syntax or
a short cut
// syntax as <host>:<port>:<sid>. The example uses the
short cut syntax.
Connection conn =
DriverManager.getConnection
("jdbc:oracle:thin:@dlsun511:1721:dbms733",
"scott", "tiger");
// Create a Statement
Statement stmt = conn.createStatement ();
// Select the ENAME column from the EMP table
ResultSet rset = stmt.executeQuery ("select ENAME from EMP");
// Iterate through the result and print the employee names
while (rset.next ())
System.out.println (rset.getString (1));

The JDBC-ODBC bridge is not yet supported by BC4J. This is in
the works...

  • ADF Business Components with SQLITE db connection

    Dear Experts,
    I just started exploring JDev+ADF. I tried to create business components from a SQLITE db connection, but it seems that the Wizard windows stuck at the first steps even though I have successfully tested the SQLITE db connection.
    Has anyone tried to create ADF Business Components from sqlite db connection using the wizard windows? Do I have to code this manually?
    JDev: 11.1.1.6
    JDBC Driver: sqlitejdbc-v056.jar
    SQLite: 3.6.0
    Thanks

    Since ADF BC are just java classes and jars - I don't see a reason why not.
    But I would be interested to know what specifically are you going to build with velocity.

  • Associations and Links does not load when creating Business Components

    Hi guys,
    I am having a problem when I create my business components from table. Let's say that I start a new fusion web application. I then create my business components, enter the proper database connection settings. After everything is done, I am only getting my entities and my views, without any associations and links.
    The thing is that it worked the first time. Everything loaded as it should. I then asked a collegue of mine to try on his computer. Surprise, everything loads perfectly just like it did the first time I did it.
    I then tried on one of my linux virtual machine, via the same PC that I am having the problem. Again, the same problem, even if this is another JDeveloper instance (vm).
    I have read the thread 2187263 that mentions to re-create the DB connection. Again, it is not working.
    Associations and View Links missing in JDeveloper 11.1.1.3 and 11.1.1.4
    I saw this under the "Messages - Log" tab in JDeveloper :
    Aug 7, 2012 11:09:06 AM oracle.jdbc.driver
    SEVERE: 3F794B56 Throwing SQLException: 3
    Aug 7, 2012 11:09:06 AM oracle.jdbc.driver
    SEVERE: 6C9DD8BE Throwing SQLException: ORA-00936: missing expression
    I am using JDeveloper 11.1.1.6.
    Any help would do, since I do not want to uninstall JDeveloper and reinstall it again and again...

    Yes. In SQL Developer, when I click "Modify" on one of my tables, and then on "Foreign Keys", I can see them all.
    Like I said, it worked on a different workstation, and it worked before on my computer.

  • NO Links or Associations created with the "Business Components From Tables"

    Hello,
    I have a strange problem. I'm working on a Fusion Web Applicaiton. In the Model project, I try to create some Business Components from Tables with the help of the provided wizard.
    I select one of my IDE Connections, and I choose two of my tables as Entity Objects (*PATIENTS* and COUNTRIES - more details about them bellow), and also as Updatable View Objects. For Read-Only View Objects I select some other tables, afterwards I choose to create a default Application Module, and I press Finish without creating a Business Diagram. Everything works perfectly except of the fact that the wizzard has created everything but the Links and the Associations between my tables.
    To be more precise, COUNTRIES is a simple table, only two columns - ID and NAME, and PATIENTS has some columns like ID, NAME, ADDRESS, DATE_OF_ADMISSION, COUNTRY_ID, where COUNTRY_ID is a foreign key to the COUNTRIES table. Both columns, PATIENTS.COUNTRY_ID and COUNTRIES.ID are NUMBERs. I was expectig the wizard to create a Link and a Association for this foreign key constraint I have between this two tables.
    On the other hand, following one of the tutorials I've found, *"Developing RIA Web Applications with Oracle ADF"*, I've noticed that when I was creating Business Components from Tables based on the HR schema, all the Links and Associations were created as they were expected. I've also tried to create the same Business Components from Tables in my own project, and all the Links and Associations were in place. Somehow, it's not working for my particular schema (the one that contains PATIENTS and COUNTRIES).
    Is there something I do wrong? I've made sure that all the FK constraints are enabled, alive and kicking. From my point of view, the tables are working and behavig as they should, but I can't understand why that feature of automatically creating the Links and Associations works on the HR schema but not on mine.
    Please help!
    Bogdan.
    PS: I am using Oracle JDeveloper Studio Edition Version 11.1.1.1.0, Oracle SQL Developer Version 1.5.5, and Oracle 10g Express Edition installed on localhost.

    Hello John,
    Of course I can post the scripts.
    The schema name is "TEST". But you should know that there are some extra columns in the PATIENTS table, I've not mentioned before. As you can tell from the scripts bellow, the PATIENTS table has the following columns: ID (number), NAME (varchar2), COUNTRY (number), GENDER (number), ADMISSIONDATE (date), DIAGNOSTIC (number), FIRSTNAME (varchar2), SALARY (number). There are actually 3 FK constraints, I've only mentioned one for the simplifying the example. The first FK constraint is towards COUNTRIES, the second one is towards GENDERS, and the final one is towards DIAGNOSTICS. All this 3 tables have only two columns (ID as number, and GENDER as varchar2). I will post the scripts for all.
    Here is the output of the Export DDL to Clipboard from SQL Developer for the COUNTRIES table:

  • Integrating ADF Business Components from heterogenous data sources

    Hi all,
    has anybody experience in integrating ADF Business Components from heterogenous data sources like ViewObjects from a DB2 database as LOV in a ViewObject from a Oracle 11g?
    What is the best practice approach to integrate such different ADF Business Components in declarative and programmatic ways?
    Thank you!

    thank you for the answer! We already updated out BC according to http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/developer-tools/jdev/multidatabaseapp-085183.html
    The DB2 ViewObjects are exported as ADF Libraries and imported in the BC of the project with Oracle DB ViewObjects. In the root AM I created instances from the imported DB2-ViewObjects as well as from the Oracle-ViewObjects, but when I start AM test environment it takes the preconfigured Data Source of the root AM. So I probably will pesneed to create two AMs for the different ViewObject types and for the two connection types. My question is what will be best practices to use data from the DB2-VO of AM_DB2 in the OracleDB-VOs as part of AM_Oracle? Should it be done only programmatically or can it be done also declaratively and any suggestions how to proceed?
    Thank you!

  • Business Components and OAS 4.0.8

    I have several projects running in JDeveloper - one of them being a BC4J project, the others a mix of servlets and classes that make use of the BC4J project to interact with the database.
    I have successfully managed to deploy the Business components application to OAS, but I get stuck after that.
    How do I make use of this deployed BC4J application through a JServlet application?

    Hi,
    A colleague of mine mentioned that one may encounter problems deploying to OAS 4.0.8.
    I understand that OAS 4.0.8.1 has major bug fixes and may make deployment substantially easier. Having not attempted either, I cannot verify his statement.
    Hope you have success!

    3) In the property pallette of the InfoProducer Session object, what to give in the remote proerties for OAS EJB.
    4) It seems that no manual code change is required if they are deployed in Oracle8i or VisiBroker whether they are deployed in Local or EJB or CORBA(the deployment wizard takes care of it). Is it same for OAS EJB deployment also?

  • Business Components

    Hello:
    I am just starting to look at JDeveloper3. Does the Business Components Project Wizard allow for the selection of a non-Oracle database like MySQL through the Sun JDBC-ODBC Bridge Driver? The connection dialog appears to allow me to specify another DB, driver, and even test the connection, but will not let me select it in the Business Connection Wizard. In fact, it doesn't even include it in the list of connections.
    Thanks

    Lenny,
    The Business Component for Java framework released with JDeveloper 3.0 supports only the Oracle database(7.3 and up). A future release will support the ability to generate Business Components using a plain vanilla JDBC driver.

  • Business Components for Java - Pooling

    I need a little bit of clarification regarding business components for java...
    I would like to create a jdbc connection pool for my application to avoid the overhead of creating new jdbc connections each time a client connects.
    Since I'm using BC4J, and the jdbc connect is contained within the bc4j components, I connect to the database using:
    session.getTransaction().connect("jdbc:oracle:thin:test/test@ccmain:1521:clincare");
    Does the BC4J architecture do any connection pooling itself? My plan was to create a pool of ApplicationModules that could be easily and quickly accessed, but if bc4j already pools the jdbc connections internally, then I'm not sure I would gain any performance with my ApplicationModule pool.
    Any input would be appreciated! Thanks!

    <BLOCKQUOTE><font size="1" face="Verdana, Arial">quote:</font><HR>Originally posted by Steve Muench ([email protected]):
    [b]Does the BC4J architecture do any connection pooling itself?
    Strictly speaking, in JDev/BC4J 3.1, the answer is no. BC4J 3.1 offer Application Module pooling and since AM's are paired one to one with connections, using a pool of AM's is pretty much the same as using a pool of connections.
    However, in JDev 3.2 we've dramatically improved the features for use in a high-throughput Web application scenario and in doing so have implemented a more flexible application module pooling mechanism as well as a connection pooling mechanism that work together to allow developers to exploit application module instances to retain pending state without "pinning" that pending state to a particular AM instance and without "pinning" a dedicated database connection.
    Early customer previews we've done on our 3.2 features have been receving rave reviews, so we'll excited to get it out to a wider audience this Fall.
    For now, you're best bet is to exploit the application module pooling mechanism.<HR></BLOCKQUOTE>
    Is JDev 3.2 going to include a support for registering application module not from the property file, but using specific database username and password for the underlying connection ?

  • Business components based on Oracle views

    I am trying to create business component objects in a master-detail relationship based on Oracle views rather than on the underlying tables. The wizard does not create associations or links since the views have no foreign keys. I created the associations and links myself, but I am unable to add them to the data model. I am using the beta v5.0, but I had the same problem in v3.23. Can anyone help?
    Thanx in advance

    Here are the steps I just tried with JDevi 9i Beta:
    [list]
    [*]SQLPLUS SCOTT/TIGER
    [*]CREATE VIEW DEPT_VIEW AS SELECT * FROM DEPT;
    [*]CREATE VIEW EMP_VIEW AS SELECT * FROM EMP
    [*]On my workspace: Right-mouse / New / Empty Project
    [*]On my new project: Right-mouse / New Business Components...
    [*]Next, to the connection panel
    [*]Set the connection, and next
    [*]Pick a package name and next
    [*]Tick the [x] Views checkbox, and select EMP_VIEW and DEPT_VIEW
    [*]Uncheck the "View Objects and View Links" box, since we don't want these created automatically.
    [*]Click (Finish)
    [*]In navigator, select my "DeptView" entity and edit it (the view is called "DeptViewView").
    [*]Click on the "Attributes" tab
    [*]Select "Rowid" in the attribute list
    [*]Click the (Remove) button
    [*]Select the "Attribute Settings" tab, and select the "Deptno" attribute.
    [*]Check the [x] Primary Key checkbox for "Deptno"
    [*]Click (Ok).
    [*]Repeat steps above on "EmpView" entity to remove Rowid attribute and make "Empno" attribute the primary key. (NOTE: Since views don't have constraints, we couldn't detect the primary key constraint, so we default the ROWID to be the primary key in the wizard).
    [*]In navigator, select my "DeptView" entity, and right-mouse / New Association...
    [*]Using the wizard I create a association based on the "Deptno" attribute, and with a 1 to many cardinality.
    [*]I right-mouse on "DeptView" entity and select New Default View Object... to create the "DeptViewView" view object.
    [*]I right-mouse on "EmpView" entity and select New Default View Object... to create the "EmpViewView" view object.
    [*]I right-mouse on the DeptViewView view object and select New View Link...
    [*]I create a new view link between DeptViewView and EmpViewView
    [*]On the "Source Attributes" panel, I select the "Dept2Emp" association I created above, and click the ">" to shuttle it to the selected list.
    [*]Click next and notice that by selecting the association, it automatically picked the right attributes for both sides for the view link automatically.
    [*]click next, then (Finish)
    [*]I right-mouse on my package and select New Application Module...
    [*]On the datamodel panel, I see a tree view of "Available View Objects like this:
    + Project 3
    |
    +---[-] Package3
    |
    +---[SQL] DeptViewView
    | |
    | +--[SQL] EmpViewView via MyViewLink
    |
    +---[SQL] EmpViewView[*]I select DeptViewView in the available list and click ">" to shuttle it to the selected list in my data model
    [*]In the SELECTED list, I select the DeptViewView that I just added, to make it the current view in the selected list.
    [*]Back in the available list, I select the "EmpViewView via MyViewLink" and shuttled it to the selected list as a detail of the current view in the selected list.
    [*]I click finish
    [*]I right-mouse on my AppModule and select "Test..." to build and test my appmodule.
    [*]I click (Connect) on the tester start page
    [*]In the tester, I right mouse on "MyViewLink" and select "Show".
    [list]
    After these steps, I see data correctly.

  • Business Components diagram to Database Diagram AUTOMATICALLY Please.

    Hello,
    We are using Jdev 10.1.2 and we have a beautiful business components diagram with all the entities and associations and would like to generate automatically a database diagram from that beauty, without effectively creating the tables. We wish to have a look at the data definition language script to be sure that we get what we expect, when we generate the tables.
    Does anyone have any idea how to proceed ?
    Thanks a lot for your co-operation.
    Peace and Love to all of you !!!
    Jacques

    Jacques,
    In JDeveloper 10.1.2, you will need to generate tables from your Entity Objects to the database first and then either drag and drop the tables from the Connections Navigator to the diagram, or import them to the Offline Database, and then drag them to the diagram from the Applications Navigator.
    We are working on better integration between Business Components and the Offline Database/Database Modeling in future versions of JDeveloper.
    - John.

  • Creating Business Components from Teradata tables

    I'm trying to use the "business components from tables" wizard using a connection to a Teradata database. The business components get created without attributes. I'm getting an error where JDeveloper thinks that the Teradata table doesn't have a primary key. But I explicitly created the primary in the table (not be confused with a primary index, which is a different object from a Primary Key in Teradata). Am I really not supposed to use ADF to deal with Teradata data stores? I was hoping ADF would be able to work with databases other than Oracle. Is there maybe something special that needs to be done for the business components wizard to be able to recognize the primary key in the Teradata table? If we need to create all Teradata business objects manually then ADF isn't a goo option for Teradata.

    I'm connecting via JDBC Generic. I'm using Teradata's JDBC driver. From a connection perspective everything works fine. I have the Teradata connection both as an IDE resource as well as an Application resource. When I expand the application connection it shows all schemas. I then expand my personal schema where I created the table with which I'm testing. It shows my table, all the table's columns, and under constraints it shows the table's primary key. But when I try to create the business components is when it somehow doesn't seem to recognize the table's primary key.
