JDBC 10.2.0.3 and orai18n.jar

I am trying to use the JDBC thin driver 10.2.0.3 on an older version of the database (Oracle 9.2.0.6 to be precise).
The problems start when I tried to use XSU from the database's XDK to perform a "getXML" with encoding. The program requires oracle/gss/util/NLSLocale. Since JDBC 10.2 this is no longer included in JDBC's orai18n but in GDK 10.2.0.1.
This works :-), still... there are some points that are not clear :
1) Although people claim that the presence of orai18n.jar on the JDBC download page is now only a convenience for a component that is now part of GDK, the orai18n.jar from JDBC 10.2.0.3 is different in contents (file list) and seemingly more recent than that of the GDK...
2) The JDBC 11 readme says to use the orai18n.jar from the database, but :
- Oracle 9.2.0, supported by the JDBC 11 drivers, do not have this file
- no updated version of the GDK (named 11 or some such) is available. Is the older on still correct ?

Thanks for your reply.
It's true that the situation is a little confusing ;-). Glad to head that this dependency is no longer true for JDBC.
I realize that my dependency comes from XSU (from the XDK) and not JDBC itself, and perhaps even that dependency had disappeared in more recent versions. Still, I need to stick with Oracle 9.2's version of the XDK for the time being. When I omit to include one of the "good" orai18n.jar I get this exception :
Exception in thread "main" java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: oracle/gss/util/NLSLocale
at oracle.xml.sql.XSULocale.getJavaCharset(XSULocale.java:119)
at OracleXML.To_XML(OracleXML.java:1110)
at OracleXML.ExecuteGetXML(OracleXML.java:928)
at OracleXML.main(OracleXML.java:186)
So it's not JDBC after all, only the XDK. Funny thing is that I'm doing WE8ISO8859P15 to ISO-8859-15 "conversion", which is no conversion at all ;-).
I think I'll stick to running the XSU standalone with the database's versions of the JDBC and related libraries, server side.
I'll use the newer (and standalone) thin JDBC driver for my own programs, both server side and client side. That should do the trick.
Thanks for you reply.

  • JDBC 4.0 and ojdbc14.jar

    Hello everyone
    i need to know abt jdbc-4.0 api tutorial and abt ojdbc14.jar tutorial which one is better ojdbc or classes12
    Thanks

    ojdbc14.jar is for JDK 1.4 or higher. classes12.zip
    is for JDK 1.2 and 1.3.
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/tech/java/sq
    lj_jdbc/htdocs/jdbc9201.htmlYes, although only the latest version of ojdbc14.jar (10gR2, or 10.2.0.1.0) is Oracle-approved-and-supported for Java 1.5. That doesn't mean older versions don't work with newer Java, they do, at least mostly, but Oracle does not certify-and-support them. In fact, I know that the last 8.1.7 version of classes12 works very well with Java 1.4 and an 8.1.7 DB (at lease for the driver functions my company happens to use, we're pretty "plain vanilla" on that project).
    For new code, you should probably be using the latest ojdbc14.jar, unless you're using an antique version of Java.

  • JDBC access to Oracle DB - nls_charset-12.jar

    All,
    I found this jar used by an application along with the oracle 9.x JDBC driver. Obviously an upgrade is required to the latest JDBC drivers. Does anyone know what nls_charset-12.jar is used for and if the new 11g version still requires it? I would assume there is only 1 jar file which would take care of JDBC communication with Oracle DB.
    Thanks in advance!

    >
    Yes, I will have to support international characters as well. So this jar file is still required with Oracle 11g?
    >
    That file has been replaced with orai18n.jar which is clearly stated on the download page:
    http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/database/enterprise-edition/jdbc-112010-090769.html
    The driver's readme also clearly explains for which character sets you need the ora18n.jar:
    http://download.oracle.com/auth/otn/utilities_drivers/jdbc/112/Readme.txt?e=1302938175&h=f74ccdcb22412e9b88109cc11fc17b32

    The JDBC Server-side Internal Driver provides complete NLS support.
    It does not require any NLS extension jar file. Discussions in this
    section only apply to the Oracle JDBC Thin and JDBC OCI drivers.
    The basic jar files (ojdbc5.jar and ojdbc6.jar) contain all the
    necessary classes to provide complete NLS support for:
    - Oracle Character sets for CHAR/VARCHAR/LONGVARCHAR/CLOB type data
    that is not retrieved or inserted as a data member of an Oracle
    Object or Collection type.
    - NLS support for CHAR/VARCHAR data members of Objects and
    Collections for a few commonly used character sets. These
    character sets are: US7ASCII, WE8DEC, WE8ISO8859P1, WE8MSWIN1252,
    and UTF8.

  • Java Studio Enterprise 8 and mail.jar

    I have a problem with the mail.jar file being locked after a method is instantiated that actually sends a message (and invokes the mail.jar, activiation.jar, etc.) This is problematic because I can't redepoy an application from the Java Studio Enterprise 8 IDE to the application server without shutting down and restarting the application server. I have the latest versions as of today (7/26/2006) of the mail.jar and activation.jar archives. I've done everything I can think of to ensure that all references to java objects created as part of the mail send process are nullified and even called the System.gc() method to ask the JVM to clean things up. Still, the mail.jar is locked upon redeploy (I can tell because all other files, classes, web component, etc. are gone from the deploy directory except the mail.jar file, which is locked even from Operating System access.)
    I'm using:
    Sun Java(TM) Studio Enterprise 8 (Build 051011_2)
    IDE/1 spec-5.9.1 impl=200507031930
    Windows 2000 version 5.0 runningo n x86
    Java 1.5.0_04
    Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM 1.5.0_04-b05
    Any ideas on how to fix this locking problem with mail.jar?

    Huhm. Good question. I have done the following to get a good log file trace in case something is there:
    1) Stopped the server.
    2) Cleared out the server.log file (deleted it).
    3) Started the server.
    4) Deployed the application.
    5) Ran the application code such that it sends an e-mail using the Transport.send(message) code.
    6) Tried to redeploy the application (which won't because the mail.jar file is locked up).
    Here's the server.log file after all that happened....

  • Stored Proc output being truncated with latest ojdbc14 and classes12.jar

    Hello,
    I downloaded the latest ojdbc14.jar from Oracle website and used it with my Java program. I noticed a peculiar behavior. If my stored proc is returning a VARCHAR with large number of characters, the output is being truncated. This worked fine with the older ojdbc14.jar (and the older classes12.jar). It does not work properly with the new ojdbc14 and classes12.jar. Is there something that I am missing here?
    My Oracle Server version is - Oracle Database 10g Enterprise Edition Release 10.2.0.1.0.
    Below is the sample stored proc and the Java file to execute the same.
    Am I missing something here?

    Hari,
    If you think it is a bug, you can report it to Oracle Support via the MetaLink Web site.
    Good Luck,
    Avi.

  • Xdb.jar and ojdbc14.jar incompatibility ( XMLType.createXML() ) ??

    I am using the latest xdb.jar (from xdk_java_9_2_0_5_0.zip) and ojdbc14.jar
    and it appears that xdb.jar calls a method that does not exist in ojdbc14.jar.
    It happens when executing
    OPAQUE opaque = rset.getOPAQUE("value");
    XMLType xt = XMLType.createXML(opaque); // <-- here
    The exact error message is:
    java.lang.NoSuchMethodError: oracle.jdbc.internal.OracleConnection.getProtocolType()Ljava/lang/String;
         at oracle.xdb.XMLType.initConn(XMLType.java:2072)

    Hi,
    There are known problems with xdb.jat that is bundled with XDK 9205.
    As a workaround, you need to use an older version of xdb.jar from either XDK-9.2.0.3 or XDK-9.2.0.4 since the mentioned exception is generally thrown due to problems in xdb.jar that comes with XDK-9205.
    If you do not have any of these versions of XDK, you could use the xdb.jar that comes with the database 9.2.0.3. The xdb.jar is present in <oracle_home>/rdbms/jlib folder.
    Hope that helps.

  • Can't get matching xdb6.jar, xmlparserv2.jar and ojdbc6.jar

    No matter what I try, they are always somewhat different and I'm getting exceptions with JDBC on either setSQLXML or on .getString() once I retrieved the SQLXML object and want to get the content back or I'm downright getting "oracle.xdb.XMLType cannot be cast to java.sql.SQLXML"
    How is it possible that Oracle who owns Java and OracleDB can't make a working Java driver? I just want to be able to work with XML, I didn't know this was asking much. I have OracleXE installed.

    Welcome to the forum!

    All you have done is complain. That is basically the equivalent of a five year old saying 'Mommy, my tummy hurts'.

    What did you try? You haven't posted ANY information about what you are even doing, what jars, tools or code you are doing it with or HOW you are doing it.

    What exceptions? You haven't posted ANY exceptions or any of the code that caused those exceptions.
    Retrieved WHAT SQLXML object? Retrieved from where? What is the full name and version of the database you are using? For Oracle that would be the 4 digit version as returned by 'SELECT * FROM V$VERSION'. Oracle DB doesn't have any SQLXML objects; it has XMLTYPE columns. Is that what you are trying to access?

    Where did you get them from? How did you get them? How do you know that they don't match? What is the full name and version of the jars that you are using?
    Have you used this functionality before? Do you know how to use it? If you have never used it and have no expertise with it we need to know that so we can tell you how to get up to speed so you can use it successfully.
    Since you haven't provided ANY of the information needed to provide any specific suggestions all we can do is assume that you are using the last, current version of Java and all jars files and have never used the functionality. In that case you need to start at the beginning.

    SQLXML Type
    One of the most important updates in JDBC 4.0 standard is the support for the XML data type, defined by the SQL 2003 standard. Now JDBC offers a mapping interface to support the SQL/XML database data type, that is, java.sql.SQLXML. This new JDBC interface defines Java native bindings for XML, thus making handling of any database XML data easier and more efficient.
    The oracle.jdbc.getObjectReturnsXMLType Property
    In Oracle Database 10g and earlier versions of Oracle Database 11g, Oracle JDBC drivers supported the Oracle SQL XML type (XMLType) through an Oracle proprietary extension. XML values were represented by instances of the oracle.xdb.XMLType class and the SQL XMLType values were read and set through the JDBC standard getObject, setObject, and updateObject methods.
    The JDBC standard requires the getObject method to return an instance of java.sql.SQLXML type when called on a SQL XML type column. But, the earlier versions of Oracle JDBC drivers return an instance of oracle.xdb.XMLType. This does not conform to the JDBC standard.
    The current release of Oracle JDBC drivers conform to the JDBC standard with the introduction of a new connection property, oracle.jdbc.getObjectReturnsXMLType. If you set this property to false, then the getObject method returns an instance of java.sql.SQLXML type. You can achieve this by using the following command line option while compiling your program with javac:
    -Doracle.jdbc.getObjectReturnsXMLType="false"
    If you depend on the existing Oracle proprietary support for SQL XMLType using oracle.xdb.XMLType, then you can change the value of this property back to true by using the following command line option:
    -Doracle.jdbc.getObjectReturnsXMLType="true"
    The value of the oracle.jdbc.getObjectReturnsXMLType property is a String representing a boolean value of either true or false. If the value of this property is true, then the getObject method returns oracle.xdb.XMLType instances, when called for a SQL XMLType column. This is the deafault value of the oracle.jdbc.getObjectReturnsXMLType property. If the value of this property is false, then the getObject method returns java.sql.SQLXML instances. This is the standard JDBC-compliant mode.
    Note:
    The oracle.jdbc.getObjectReturnsXMLType property affects only the result of the getObject method. All other methods conform to the JDBC 4.0 standard regardless of the value of the property.

    The exception that you are getting
    >
    oracle.xdb.XMLType cannot be cast to java.sql.SQLXML
    >
    is telling that the XMLType is NOT an SQLXML type so you can't use it as one. That doc section above should tell explain that those are two DIFFERENT types. You use one or the other depending on which version of the functionality you want to use. You can use the older 'non-JDBC' standard or the new 'JDBC' standard. But you can't mix the two.
    Review that entire chapter of the doc and see if that helps.
    If not then you need to provide ALL relevant information if you need more help:
    1. Java version
    2. DB name and version

  • Orcale 11 g and classes12.jar problem

    Hello,
    I recently installed oracle 11g R2 on a windows 2003 server, I migrated a 10g (10.2.0.4) database into 11g successfully. However when I tried to install the corresponding application, I get the following message:
    "Could not find oracle jdbc library ( classes12.jar or nls_charset12.jar) in C:\oracle11\product\11.2.0\dbhome_1\jdbc\lib. Check whether the Oracle component is correctly installed".
    Could someone please advise how tis matter can be solved?? Is there a possibility the application is not supported in oracle 11g??

    You should check with your vendor to see if thier application is supported under Oracle 11g.
    While waiting for the vendor to respond you can copy the classes12.jar and nls_charset12.jar from another Oracle 10g installation to C:\oracle11\product\11.2.0\dbhome_1\jdbc\lib. If you do not have 10g install you can download the 10g JDBC drivers at the link below.

    Hi all,
    in some SAP-Notes are describe where i can download these Files.
    For Example:
    http://service.sap.com/netweaver
    SAP NetWeaver
    -> SAP Netweaver in Detail
        -> Application Platform
           -> DB and OS abstraction
              -> Platforms
                 -> Platform specific information
                    -> Microsoft
    x SQL Server
    ZIP-File: "JDBC Driver for MS SQL Server"
    But there are no ZIP-File !!!
    Can anyone tell me where i can find the base.jar and util.jar File?

    Hi Christian,
    when using a vendor's JDBC drivers, you must go to the vendor to get them. For Microsoft here is a good place to start: http://www.microsoft.com/sql/downloads/
    These JDBC files should also be included with you SQL Server CDs...
    Hope this helps!
    Cheers,
    Jeff

  • Classes12.jar and nls_charset12.jar Version

    I am running a java application that talks to 9.2.0.1 Oracle database. I am using classes12.jar,ocrs12.jar and nls_charset12.jar and neither of the jars have a manifest file with a verson number. The classes in the classes12.jar and ocrs12.jar were compiled on 5/17/2001 and the classes in nls_charset12.jar were compiled on 7/13/2000. I need to know what version these jars are, is there any way for you to tell me based on the compilation dates. I tried looking on Oracle download sites for the 9.2.0.1 jdbc jars and they all had classes that were compiled on different dates.
    thank you very much

    You can find out the version of the JDBC driver you're using by creating a DatabaseMetaData object and querying it. The snippet below should work:
        DatabaseMetaData meta = conn.getMetaData();
        // gets driver info:
        System.out.println("\n=============\nDatabase Product Name is ... " +
                           meta.getDatabaseProductName());
        System.out.println("\nDatabase Product Version is " +
                           meta.getDatabaseProductVersion());
        System.out.println("\n=============\nJDBC Driver Name is ........ " +
                           meta.getDriverName());
        System.out.println("\nJDBC Driver Version is ..... " +
                           meta.getDriverVersion());
        System.out.println("\nJDBC Driver Major Version is " +
                           meta.getDriverMajorVersion());
        System.out.println("\nJDBC Driver Minor Version is " +
                           meta.getDriverMinorVersion());
        System.out.println("\n=============");I know of no way, however, to get this information based on the compilation dates of the files.

  • Old versions of aqapi.jar and xsu12.jar in 10.2 for Windows

    I found out that oc4j in 10.2 for Windows contains old versions (1.2) of aqapi.jar and xsu12.jar in oracle_home\oc4j\rdbms\jlib. It was not a problem but when I tried to implement an AQ servlet that interact with a typed XMLType queue I got the java exception during dequeuing:
    java.sql.SQLException: XMLTypeFactory can only work with OPAQUE
    at oracle.xdb.XMLTypeFactory.create(XMLTypeFactory.java:75)
    at oracle.jdbc.driver.Accessor.getORAData(Accessor.java:1387)

    at oracle.AQ.xml.AQxmlProcessor.processMessage(AQxmlProcessor.java:381)
    at oracle.AQ.xml.AQxmlServlet.doPost(AQxmlServlet.java:238)
    The solution is to replace the old versions of these files with new or somehow to remove references to these jars from classpath.

    I've been able to find someone willing to do some testing that I can't do without installing old versions of Reader on my computer.  The surprising (to me) result is that the Submit button causes the problem.  By simply removing the Submit button, Reader 10 is now able to print page 1.  The Submit button was set up to do a "mailto".  I don't know whether other destinations also cause the problem of the page not printing with old versions of Reader.

  • Classes12.jar and Classes111.jar

    Can anyone please update me Classes12.jar and Classes111.jar are which JDBC driver types?
    What's the difference between Classes12.jar and Classes111.jar?

    Oracle provides 2 major drivers, the "thin" and "thick"(or "oci" )
    As the name implies, the "thin" drivers is light weight (1.9 MB) and 100% written in java. Wheareas the "thick" driver is written in native language such as C. You need a Oracle Client or Database installtion to use the thick driver.
    "Thin" driver is packaged as classes12.jar (for use with JDK 1.2 or 1.3) [use classes111.jar for JDK 1.1] and is placed in ORACLE_HOME/jdbc/lib directory.
    So classes111 and classes12 each contain a thick OCI(type2) and thin(type4) driver.
    I've also heard it said that if your connecting to Oracle9 then you should use
    classes12 (along with jdk1.2/1.3), but I've seen it work with classes111 and jdk1.1.

  • Splash screen with progress bar and multiple jar files to load

    Hello,
    I have been looking to the new features in java 6 for splash screens. I haven't implemented this never before and i was wondering how i could do the following with java 1.5 or 6:
    I would like to see a splash screen with a progress bar that "grows" when every jar file has been read.
    At this time i call my application like this from a shell script:
    exec "$JAVA_BIN" -Djava.library.path=$LIBRARIES_J3D -classpath xxxx.jar yyyy.jar zzzz.jar ...
    where xxx.jar, yyy.jar and zzz.jar are very heavy jars.
    So i would like to see in the progress bar 33% 66% and 100% when they are loaded.
    I do not know if this is the right forum to ask for this. If no, please point me which would be the ideal one.
    Any help will be very useful. Thanks to all!

  • Including a .jad and a .jar file in presentations

    Hi:
    I did an application using the last version of the Sun Java Wirelless Toolkit 2.5. And now I have a .jad file and a .jar file. I need to include both in a power point presentation to be able to show the application. I dont want to do a link because I'm not gonna use my computer to do the presentation. Do I need to do something special in the deployment step to be able to do this ?
    I have tried to include the program this;
    Insert --> Object
    But it doesn't work.

    Hey listen what you want to do is possible but not in the way you want to do...
    if you want to demonstrate the functionality of your application or how it works then you can use use
    any screen recording software such as: Screen Recorder Gold, Qarbon's Viewlet Builder or ViewletCam
    such software help you to record the activity of screen then you can export the recorded screen shots to multiple formats and include them to your PP presentation...

  • Standard.jar and jstl.jar directory

    First off I probably should apologize in advance because my problem might be an eclipse config issue.
    I created a simple servlet and I tried to include a jstl library import javax.servlet.jsp.jstl.sql.Result;. It compiled cleanly but, when I ran the application (through a browser accessing tomcat through eclipse) I was getting this error...
    The absolute uri: http://java.sun.com/jsp/jstl/core cannot be resolved in either web.xml or the jar files deployed with this application
    I eventually found out what was wrong but I don't understand why it was wrong and that's my question. Originally I had jstl.jar and standard.jar in the projectHome/lib directory. When I moved those 2 files to the projectHome]/WEB-INF/lib directory, however, things ran correctly. Is this a setting somewhere within my tomcat config on eclipse perhaps? Or can someone point me in the right direction about this issue in general?
    Thanks in advance!

    Tomcat and Eclipse have different ideas of classpath.
    In Eclipse you set the classpath as part of the project properties: Java Build Path.
    Tomcat uses:
    - web-inf/classes directory
    - jar files in web-inf/lib
    - jar files in /shared/lib
    - jar files in /common/lib
    So in order to run on Tomcat, they need to be in the web-inf/lib directory.
