JDBC ODBC MSAccess crash

Hello !
I have a very serious problem with an application which uses a multithreading access to a ms-access 2000 DB.
I am using the jdbc-odbc-driver from sun to read and write infomration into/ from the db in several threads. This works fine for about an hour or so and then without any kind of exception or other message the programm crahes! No stacktrace or something else ocurs. There isn't any kind of regularity in this behaviour like a certain number of accesses, a certain time period, etc.
Funny is, that this works fine for more than 36 hours using a MySQL-DB which then uses a native JDBC-Driver and no ODBC-JDBC-Driber !
Does anyone knows a solution or has some helpful other information for me ?

Is there any reason you have to use access? I noticed that when I was using access if I opened and closed a number of connection objects it would cause my application to crash. I went with another database that had it's own native jdbc-driver.

My application, which runs off an access database, works fine on english versions of NT.
The database is accessed using the following URL syntax:
"jdbc:odbc:Driver={Microsoft Access Driver *.mdb)};DBQ=c:/application/app.mdb"
The application uses the internationalized version of the jre.
However, on Japanese NT machines, it crashes.

c:/application/app.mdb
...use the 'short' name

I know the code is ok,
i am running this on win2k with java 1.3 and java1.4.0_01 run time,

actually i got this working by downloading the latest sdk for java
j2se 4.01.
So if anyone has a similar problem, thats what you should do!!!
I think there was a problem with the hotspot runtime environment before, but its all sorted now.

How to append records in MSAccess through Java using JDBC:ODBC

Hello,
I was able to retrieve records from MSAccess database through JAVA over the JDBC-ODBC bridge.
If I want to append records to a table (for eg. photo1 table containing photono., length, breadth, area as
columns) I could not able to do so through JAVA.
I am using JTable with the above fields. The user is displayed with the JTable and he has to enter
data inside the JTable and press a button titled "Append". Then the JAVA program should append
whatever the user has entered in the JTable as a single record inside the MSAccess database.
Can anyone help me please?

hi i too am having similar problem. i am able to create a table in ms access through java but when i insert values i get a msg that it has inserted the values but when i check the table by opening ms-access there are no values in the table.
the insert statement i am using is
" insert into tk1 values(3,'tarun')"
further i tried using the methods commit, setAutoCommit etc with the connection object. -NO GO.
can you help me ?

hmmm..... ntdll.dll
i would try the following.
1) reinstall the JVM
2) reinstall the MDAC (M$ data access components)
3) re-install NT.
if you get errors of this type with code that worked before and you haven't changed anything it may just be that some windows files are corrupted and need to be replaced or in the worst case the whole system needs to be re-installed.
you might want to consider not using the jdbc-odbc driver in future to eliminate MDAC and ODBC as possible causes of problems and errors.
otherwise welcome to windows. generally i find NT systems need to be re-installed once every 3 to four months on average if you use them heavily.

JDBC:ODBC Crashes in driver when doing update

I am getting a crash in the native code when trying to update a record through an updateable record set using the JDBC:ODBC bridge. I have appended the crash information at the bottom of this message gotten from the Forte output window. This is going to SQL Server 2000. Through the Beta JDBC driver everything works fine, but through ODBC it always crashes no matter what columns I pick so it doesn't seem to be data type related. I would just use the JDBC driver, but that is not a option for some of our clients. I have used Insert statements without a problem, but one of the fields in one table is a BLOB field and I don't know of any way to access it except through an updatable record set.
Does anyone have any ideas about how I might get around this?

Help! Crashing JVM while doing SELECT statement through JDBC-ODBC bridge

Help please. I am working on a project on my own computer using the jdk version 1.5.0_04.
The project involves running a select on a Microsoft Access 2003 database via the JDBC-ODBC bridge. The database is registered in the ODBC database sources, and it works fine in those other projects.

The code that is causing the problem is in the class shown below. It is in the method getBoxScoreFromDB. When it attempts to run the first select statement, it causes the crash that I showed above.
The connection is set up by the calling class. The calling class constructs a LUDatabaseWorker, sets the necessary parameters (dbURL, driver class, username and password), and calls the openDBConnection().

its because you use hungarian notation - that was the hollywood squares answer.
It looks like a bug in either the ntdll or the JdbcOdbc dll, so I'd see if you can't isolate the problem (like using a smaller bit of code) and file a bug report. Find out exacty what your sql statement is which causes this to crash - hint : line 215

Wierd behavior of jdbc:odbc using MSACCESS 2002

I'm using msaccess 2002, java version 1.4.0, Windows XP.
I configured ODBC driver for my database "MailDB" using "odbcad32".
I have no problem retrieving data from my database to my program, however I can't insert data to my database.
I've checked my SQL syntax, it works fine within Access.
Does anyone have an idea what could be the problem?

1. Remove the semi-colon.
2. Close the connection
3. Do something with the exceptions - don't just discard them.

Slow performance of JDBC - ODBC MS ACCESS

I experience a very slow performance for jdbc-odbc using ms access as the database. This program works fine with other computer (in term of performance). However, the harddrive is cranking big time with this computer (this is the fastest one among the computers I tested, and also has many gigabytes left to be used). The database is very small. Other computer use exactly the same java version and msaccess driver version. If anyone found the same problem, or have any suggestion please help. Thank you.

I am having the same problem with one machine as well. Running MS Access 2000 (unfortunately), and all machines run well with one exception. DB reads take about 10 seconds each. If a solution has been found, please report.

be something wrong with how I've entered the database

RobI think you've misunderstood me. This has nothing to do with unusually large data entries, but rather the opposite. You are wrongly expecting data that is shorter than you think. When you call rs.getString(i) to retrieve a column value of a field, and you only want the first 5 characters in the column (instead of 10 or whatever the column size is), you would do something similar to the following:
String column_value = rs.getString(1).subtstring(0,5);The above expects a String that is at least 5 characters. Your problem is when your column value returned is less than the specified substring index ( in this case 5 ) it will throw an exception. If you changed your code to this, the error will not occur:
String column_value = rs.getString( 1 ).subtstring( 0, 5);
if ( column_value.length() > 5 )
column_value = column_value.substring( 0, 5 );

while i Try to access the msaccess database using sun.jdbc.odbc.JdbcOdbcDriver,the server is giving the error class not found....sun.jdbc.odbc.JdbcOdbcDriver......
I have already rt.jar containing this class in my jre...
The same thing i tried in wsad5.0 and it is working abs fine....

1)Can anybody tell me the compatibilities of JDBC-ODBC bridge versions,oracle and ODBC drivers?
2)And can u tell me how to connect to oracle through a pure Java JDBC drivers (type 4 drivers) on a standalone system?
But u advise me not to use JDBC-ODBC bridge without studying the other part.

Jdbc-odbc-bridge connection pool

I got a problem with odbc connection pool in my Sun App Server 7.
When i try to connect to the odbc database (msaccess or conzept16), i got a SQLException : com.sun.enterprise.repository.J2EEResourceException
java.lang.NoSuchMethodException: setdatabaseName .....
It seems that i cant set any propertys like url, user or password. The exception throws every time NoSuchMethodException: setURL or ... NoSuchMethodException: setUser
I tried this with pointbase database and pointbase drivers and there was no problem. Also when i connect direct from jsp page to the odbc database without connection pool it works.
How can i set a propper connection pool with the jdbc-odbc-bridge? Please Help. There is no jdbc driver for that database available.
Is that right using sun.jdbc.odbc.JdbcOdbcDriver for that?

AFAIK the bridge driver does not support multipleopen
connections (which is what connection pooling
requires).Wrong.
It might be the case that the bridge AND ms access
does not support that but I seriously doubt that as
well.
Yesterday I didn't want to test this. Today I did.
So I can state that it is completely wrong.
There might be some other reason preventing the usage in a pool, but it isn't the number of open connections.

Latest JDBC-ODBC-Bridge

we are using JDK1.2 and dont want to change. We are extensively using jdbc:odbc - but it seems it is not really stable. Where can I find the latest jdbc-odbc-Bridge as a separate package? Can it be used with jdk1.2?

I am not sure if this will fix my problem. But I am looking hard for a reason. What me made suspicious is the following: I just tried jdk1.2.2 and there the system crashed immediately. So I read in the bug-database and there I found a likely reason, which caused the bridge to crash. So I thought there might be a similar bug in 1.2.
Anyhow: how do I find out why the jvm is crashing? this might help me a lot.
I used jdbc-odbc in 1.1.4 with a 24x7 system with 200+
users, 3000+ reports a night and a 250 gigabyte
database growing at a rate of 400meg a day.
And I never traced a single problem to the jdbc-odbc
bridge.
How sure are you that a new driver will fix your
problem?

MS access,servlets and jdbc-odbc

when i try to connect to ms access database using servlet i get unable to open registry key DriverId problem.
servlet successfully extracts the form data.Even jdbc code alone works fine, but when jdbc code is embeded in servlet I get the above error.I am using java web server 2.0 and a jdbc-odbc(type 1) driver.
Please help me.................!

You have not specified the exception class.
If it is java.security, try peeping into jws security directory, and set the access to your servlet directory.
