Wierd behavior of jdbc:odbc using MSACCESS 2002

I'm using msaccess 2002, java version 1.4.0, Windows XP.
I configured ODBC driver for my database "MailDB" using "odbcad32".
I have no problem retrieving data from my database to my program, however I can't insert data to my database.
I've checked my SQL syntax, it works fine within Access.
Does anyone have an idea what could be the problem?
Code:
import java.sql.*;
public class AccessConnection
     public static void main(String[] args){
          try {
               //Connecting to database
               Class.forName("sun.jdbc.odbc.JdbcOdbcDriver");
               Connection conn = DriverManager.getConnection("jdbc:odbc:MailDB");
               //Select Query - WORKS FINE!!!
               ResultSet rS = conn.createStatement().executeQuery("Select * from MAIL" );
               while (rS.next())
                    System.out.println(rS.getString("A"));
               rS.close();
               //Insert Query - DOESNT WORK!!!!!!!!!!
               conn.createStatement().executeUpdate("Insert Into MAIL (A,B,C) VALUES ('a','b','c') ;");
          catch (ClassNotFoundException e1){}
          catch (SQLException e){}

1. Remove the semi-colon.
2. Close the connection
3. Do something with the exceptions - don't just discard them.

  • Slow performance of JDBC - ODBC MS ACCESS

    I experience a very slow performance for jdbc-odbc using ms access as the database. This program works fine with other computer (in term of performance). However, the harddrive is cranking big time with this computer (this is the fastest one among the computers I tested, and also has many gigabytes left to be used). The database is very small. Other computer use exactly the same java version and msaccess driver version. If anyone found the same problem, or have any suggestion please help. Thank you.

    I am having the same problem with one machine as well. Running MS Access 2000 (unfortunately), and all machines run well with one exception. DB reads take about 10 seconds each. If a solution has been found, please report.

  • Wierd behavior of LikeFilter

    It seem LikeFilter has wierd behavior, or am I used it incorrectly?
    I test used 2 objects in cache and with key name "TEST_1" and "TEST12"
    ValueExtractor extractor = new KeyExtractor(IdentityExtractor.INSTANCE);
    Filter filter = new LikeFilter(extractor, "TEST\\_1", '\\', true);
    I would expect above code to return me only the object with key "TEST_1",
    but I got nothing return back.
    But if I use "TEST_1" as pattern string, I got both object back.
    Looks like the escape character is not working?

    Hi,
    I doubt that you would get both keys (i.e. the TEST12 key as well) for the pattern TEST_1, but I can confirm that the "TEST\\_1" pattern indeed returns an empty result set instead of the TEST_1 key it by all expectations should.

  • How to append records in MSAccess through Java using JDBC:ODBC

    Hello,
    I was able to retrieve records from MSAccess database through JAVA over the JDBC-ODBC bridge.
    If I want to append records to a table (for eg. photo1 table containing photono., length, breadth, area as
    columns) I could not able to do so through JAVA.
    I am using JTable with the above fields. The user is displayed with the JTable and he has to enter
    data inside the JTable and press a button titled "Append". Then the JAVA program should append
    whatever the user has entered in the JTable as a single record inside the MSAccess database.
    Can anyone help me please?

    hi i too am having similar problem. i am able to create a table in ms access through java but when i insert values i get a msg that it has inserted the values but when i check the table by opening ms-access there are no values in the table.
    the insert statement i am using is
    " insert into tk1 values(3,'tarun')"
    further i tried using the methods commit, setAutoCommit etc with the connection object. -NO GO.

    Regards,
    Ramanan

    Hello Ramanan,
    Report Builder : connect JDBC Query in Report Builder is to through Connection Dialog in JDBC Query Editor. User can use a Sign on parameter (can use, default : P_JDBCPDS or can create new) to connect to JDBC Data Source. Connection once made will be mentioned and will be reused through out Reports Builder.
    JDBC PDS allows user to connect one or more same or different kind of databases.
    While running report through runtime or Server, user can pass the sign on parameter(connection string) value, like any other user parameter.
    Syntax for connection string : <username>/<password>@databaseURL . The syntax of database part of connection string depend on the type of JDBC Driver used to connect to Data Source while designing the JDBC Query. databaseURL refer to the location of the database and its format depend on the JDBCPDS river selected in design time while creating the JDBC Query.
    rwrun eg :
    rwrun report=jdbc_odbc.rdf destype=file desname=output.html desformat=html P_JDBCPDS=scott/tiger@database
    Server eg :

    Hi
    i tried to put a file into blob , but got a problem.....

    Later i used (ResultSet)getBinaryStream() to solve it. but getBinaryStream() only return a InputStream,so that i can make blob to a file,but i can't make a file to blob using jdbc.....
    I am very stupid that installing sun java, oracle jdbc driver etc....(because i must set a lot of thing such as classpath,java_home etc), Can i only use JBuilder to do that ?
    Or i must install oracle jdbc driver ?
    Thanks.

    My guess here is that Sun's JDBC-ODBC bridge doesn't handle the BLOB datatype. Most ODBC drivers don't support that datatype, so I wouldn't expect the bridge to.
    Is there a reason that you can't use the Oracle driver?

  • Problem using Jdbc-Odbc Bridge

    Hi,
    I am using Java 2 SDK and I am trying to access MS Access database on my machine using Jdbc-Odbc bridge. I have set up the DSN in ODBC. But I get the following error when I run my program -
    'No Suitable Driver'
    Here's my code snippet-
    Class.forName ("sun.jdbc.odbc.JdbcOdbcDriver");
    String dsn = "jdbc:odbc:DriverInfoDB";
    Connection con = DriverManager.getConnection(dsn,"","");
    con.setAutoCommit(false);
    Statement stmt;
    String query = null; // SQL select string
    ResultSet rs; // SQL query results
    stmt = con.createStatement();
    .....etc etc...
    Where is the error in this code??
    Help Needed!!
    Thanks
    Vivek.

    try
    Class.forName("sun.jdbc.odbc.JdbcOdbcDriver");
    Connection con = DriverManager.getConnection(dsn,"guest","guest");
    OR DriverManager.getConnection(dsn);
    System.out.println("Conection's opened");
    catch(ClassNotFoundException cnfe)
    System.err.println(cnfe);
    catch(SQLException sqle)
    System.err.println(sqle);
    try that code and double check you DSN Name . it's a good practice to greate a system DSN.
    i hope that helps.

  • Cannot access remote FoxPro dbf file using jdbc-odbc and system DSN

    Hi all,
    I have a foxpro database sitting on remote server (netware server). the dbf folder is shared and I can access it using windows explore on my weblogic server (windows 2003). I created a system dsn for that. I can access the database from the a stand alone java program using

    But when I use the same thing in my weblogic 8.1 application, I cannot access the database. I didn't config any data source in weblogic 8.1
    Why?
    When I try this on my own computer - windows 2000, weblogic 8.1 workshop. remote foxpro database dbf folder. it works.

  • Jdbc-odbc java error using SQL adapter in o9iASWireless

    I've used the SQL adapter in the previous releases of wireless without any problem. Most of the time I would use it for all the wireless PLSQL applications in the Oracle database and it works very OK.
    I have also used it to connect with a SQLserver database to try out some queries. In this case I would use the standard JDBC/ODBC bridge driver from SUN.
    In release 2.0 I can't connect with this SQL Server database anymore.
    I've added a system DSN to the ODBC configuration of the Windows 2000 server. This will give access to a internal SQL server database via TCP. A password username is required.
    When I try to add a SQLservice in the service designer using the SQL adapter I will use the following parameters:
    JDBC connect string: JDBC:ODBC:<DSNNAME>
    JDBC driver: sun.jdbc.odbc.JdbcOdbcDriver
    un: <username>
    pw: password>
    Query (without ';'): select count(*) from <tablename>
    Minimum number of Database connections in the pool 5
    Maximum number of Database connections in the pool 100
    Increment size for the connection pool 1
    Idle Timeout (in minutes) 30
    Now I get the following error:

    I got the error 'java.lang.ClassCastException: sun.jdbc.odbc.JdbcOdbcConnection' in my log and tried to find out the meaning of this error at java.sun.com. It's stil not clear what exactly causes the error but it looks like a data formatting error.
    java.lang.ClassCastException
    (Thrown to indicate that the code has attempted to cast an object to a subclass of which it is not an instance. For example, the following code generates a ClassCastException:
    Object x = new Integer(0);
    System.out.println((String)x); )
    Is it just a data formatting problem or has it something to do with the JDBC/ODBC driver version of the JDK from the appliction server release 2.0.
    I remember that I was always able to connect to the SQL server database with previous releases also with a count query. I've also used JDK 1.3.1 with o9iAS release 1.0.2.1.
    Any suggestions for a solution?

    Yes, you can do that. For testing purposes you can also create simple files (with mkfile) and add these to ASM. That way you could also experiment with deleting files and see what happens in ASM

  • JSP connected to MS Access using JDBC-ODBC

    If I want to run a jsp file connected to a MS Access database using jdbc-odbc bridge.
    I thought that I should use the following code to make the connection:
    Class.forName("sun.jdbc.odbc.JdbcOdbcDriver");
    String database = "jdbc:odbc:Driver={Microsoft Access Driver(*.mdb)}; DBQ=http://myComputerName:8080/examples/jsp/DatabaseTest/mydatabase.mdb;DriverID=22;READONLY=fals";
    sqlca = DriverManager.getConnection(database, "dba","sql");
    but Tomcat 4.1 produces many errors.
    The file runs fine when I determine the complete path and include the local drive (C://) of the database Like the following:
    Class.forName("sun.jdbc.odbc.JdbcOdbcDriver");
    String database = "jdbc:odbc:Driver={Microsoft Access Driver(*.mdb)};
    DBQ=C:/Tomcat4.1/webapps/examples/jsp/DatabaseTest/mydatabase.mdb;DriverID=22;READONLY=fals";
    sqlca = DriverManager.getConnection(database, "dba","sql");
    Of course I do not want to use the second code because I want to use my computer as a host.
    I will appreciate any answer!

    Yes, using the DSN, it works fine.
    But, I think it will run from the drive C.
    I want to use my computer as a host. So, I think that I should include the name of the computer in the path.
    I do not know may I am confused.
    I appreciate your reply. Thanks!

    Hi,
    We are trying to configure a communication channel using the JDBC adapter. We are setting the driver to the JDBC-ODBC bridge driver and trying to access an MS Acess database from the PI server(sun amd64). When we set the driver to the JDBC-ODBC bridge, the J2EE engine tries to restart immediately and does not start. The std_server.out contains the following error:

    Has anybody been able to configure the JDBC-ODBC bridge driver for MS Access? Also, has anybody used the database vendor(MS) drivers? If so, where are they available.
