JDBC Sender Polling Interval

Hi All,
What is the maximum limit of the poll interval to be specified in JDBC sender.
We had faced some problem when we give a 9 or 10 digit polling interval.
But when we give something near to 6 7 digits, its working fine
Any such practical situations handled by any1?
Thanks,
Greg

Hi Greg,
give a small number (minute or so) and schedule the adapter via RWB
to start it once a day or once a week
/people/shabarish.vijayakumar/blog/2006/11/26/adapter-scheduling--hail-sp-19-
this approach will have much better performance

  • Problem with Polling interval at sender side in JDBC adapter

    Hello,
I have some problem in investigating one serious issue using this polling interval,
I am using the sender JDBC adapter where i used polling interval as
    60(in secs) and 1(in Msecs).
So it comes upto 60.001 secs of polling interval.
There are nearly lots of threads which are in sleeping state on one particular sender channel making the J2EE hang. When i went to look inside the CPA cache i saw that the polling interval was mentioned as only 1Msec rather than 60.001 Secs because of which with in some seconds all the threads are blocked and J2EE hangs due to lack of threads.
Can you please provide some solution to this problem as soon as possible?
Here are few questions which i got when i am doing this process,
    1. Is that the polling interval is sum of 60(secs) and 1(msec)?
    2. Which value is been read either secs or msecs?
    3. Will there be any precedence among those two values(secs and msecs)?
    THanks,
    Soorya

    Poll Interval (secs)
Number of seconds that the adapter must wait if no files are found for processing.
    ●      Poll Interval (msecs)
    Additional waiting time in milliseconds.
If you set Poll Interval (secs) to null, processing times will be short and close to real time.
If you set Poll Interval (secs) and Poll Interval (msecs) to null, the adapter is only called once.
    ●      Retry Interval (secs)
Specify the number of seconds that the adapter is to wait before a file processed with errors is processed again.
If the value is set to null, then the adapter is canceled if an error occurs, even if a value greater than null is specified for Poll Interval (secs).

  • JDBC sender adapter polling data more than once within one polling interval

    Hi,
Our sender communciation channel is polling data twice in one polling interval, hence triggering the corresponding BPM twice.
The polling interval for the channel is set to 30 mins.
We dont have an update query and use <test> instead. Currently there is no provision to use an update query in the source system.
Intermitently the polling happens within an interval of few milliseconds, because of which we are in doubt whether the use of Update query will solve our problem
Additionaly in the BPM, we have one channel which deletes the data from source system after the processing is complete by the BPM, but the second BPM is getting triggered before the deletion step is being executed in the first BPM.
Please Advise how we can stop the channel from polling data twice.
    Thanks,
    Merrilly.

    Hi Merrilly,
Please ty to set an advanced mode option in the table(for sender
    channel configurations) as follows:
Key name is "clusterSyncMode" and its values are either "scheduler" or
"none".(both are without quotes and case-sensitive)
Default value is "scheduler", this means it prevents 2
messages being generated regardless of 2 server nodes. This is true,
even if you do not add anything in advanced options table.
Also are more information about this parameter of file adapter, what
    is the same for jdbc:

  • JDBC Sender Channel polling before polling interval is complete

    Hi all,
On our Production Server, we have found that a few JDBC Sender Channels are polling multiple times within one polling interval.
Eg: Suppose for one channel, the polling interval is 7200 secs. It polls once and the polling interval starts. But it polls again 1 or 2 times more maybe just 5 secs later before its next scheduled poll in 7200 secs.
Unfortunately, our scenarios are such that when there are multiple polls within a short span of time, there are data anomolies, causing inconsistancies on Receiver side DB. Hence this is a serious uissue.
Please Help. FYI, all the affected channels run on the same schedule. I am not sure if that can be causing this abnormality.

    H Varun
I have not come across this behavior earlier. But if you are polling same data base using multiple channel at same time data inconsistency can be there. We always prefer to poll the same data base tables with different timings. Setting up poll timings always consider peak loads. Try to change the polls and see if the same behavior exists.

  • JDBC Sender Error: Incorrect Pollin Interval

    Hi,
I have a problem with my JDBC Sender. It used to work perfectly. Then, it got an error. After that, I tried to re-start the CC in RWB. Here is the result in RWB after i restart.
    http://www.imagecross.com/02/image-hosting-view-03.php?id=4564sample1.png
The time is incorrect. I set polling interval in my ID as 5 seconds and retry interval as 10 seconds but in RWB it shows that polling interval is 12 seconds which I don't know where it comes from. Moreover, in RWB my CC show only message "Processing started" which is different from the time it worked that it also has a message showing interval time like this http://www.imagecross.com/02/image-hosting-view-03.php?id=5434sample2.png
Besides, No data in my database can be retrieved by SAP XI.
Have anyone experience this before? Any suggestion please?
    Thanks,
    Pavin

    Hi
Once Deactivate and again Activate your CC.
Check your generated SQL query format is correct
At runtime you can find the genereated sql statements by doing configuraitons in Receiver JDBC adapter.
In the JDBC Receiver adapter you have the Advanced Properties .
    Over there enter the following
    left column logSQLStatement
    right column true
To see the query created ..
Login to adapter monitoring ..select the relevant jdbc adapter.
Now when any message is processed by the jdbc adapter in adapter monitoring at that time you will see a message link. When you click on that link a new window will open. In that window if you click on page down you will get to see the sql statement generated by the jdbc adapter.

  • Assigning an exact time to poll data using JDBC Sender?

    Hi,
Can I set an exact time to poll data from DB table?
I means, I want to poll data every 6 pm.
But I cannot find fields to set starting time.
There exist only poll interval fields in JDBC Sender.
    Regards,
    hiyoung.

    Hi,
    This might help you out.
To run a scenario exactly once in a specific time every day    / schedule a adapter
Note:You will need to have the authorizations of the user group SAP_XI_ADMINISTRATOR with the role modify.
Go to Runtime Workbench -> Component Monitoring -> Communication Channel Monitoring
Locate the link Availability Time Planning on the top right corner of your Communication Channel Monitoring page.
In your case, the requirement is to schedule the Sender file adapter daily once at 12:00 at midnight.
In Availability Time Planning, choose the Availability time as daily and say create.
Provide the details like the time 12:00
Then select the communication channel , goto the Communication Channels tab and filter and add the respective channel (File Sender).
Once all the above has been done 'Save' the changes.

  • Sender File Adapter always "Polling interval started" without complete

    Hi,
I have problem with sender file adapter suddenlty the status from Communication Channel Log monitoring always with polling started without completed.
4/25/11 11:40:33 AM   Polling interval started. Length: 10.0 seconds
4/25/11 11:40:23 AM   Polling interval started. Length: 10.0 seconds
4/25/11 11:40:13 AM   Polling interval started. Length: 10.0 seconds
4/25/11 11:40:03 AM   Polling interval started. Length: 10.0 seconds
    Normal :
4/25/11 11:41:50 AM   Polling interval started. Length: 10.0 seconds
4/25/11 11:41:50 AM   Processing finished successfully
    4/25/11 11:41:50 AM   Processing started
4/25/11 11:41:40 AM   Polling interval started. Length: 10.0 seconds
4/25/11 11:41:40 AM   Processing finished successfully
    4/25/11 11:41:40 AM   Processing started
I have tried to stop and start the channel but still no luck. This problem only happen for this particular communication channel others channel is working fine.
Please advise other solution before i need to restart the java engine since this in the production environment. The problem is some of the process was delayed because this issue. CC was delayed to pickup the file.
    Thank You in advance.

    Hi Abhistek,
Thank you for your correction. It was typo.
    Which assumption is correct ?
    1. All 3 instance running together in the same time ?  or
    2. Either 1 of the instance running once time manage by clustering setting.
    Example :
    15:01:00   ---> A
    15:02:00  -
    > A
    15:03:00  -
    > B
    15:04:00   -
    > B
    Currently :
    15:01:00   -
    > A
    15:01:00   -
    > B (lock)
    15:02:00  -
    > A
    15:02:00  -
    > B (lock)
It seems all 3 instance lose control from clustering ?

  • Sender File Adapter - Restrict number of file polled at each poll interval

    Hi all,
    PI  7.0 SPS16.
We would like to know whether it is possible to configure a sender file adapter (file conversion mode) in order to restrain the number of file taken at each poll interval and if yes how ?
    Thanks for your future answers.
    Jean-Charles

    Hi Jean
Standard adapter do not provide functionality to take an input like number of files to be taken at poll interval. But using adapter module you can achieve this.
SAP PI is having the function to set poll timings and scheduling. You can write adapter module and execute this module using File adapter type communication channel before the standard bean and you can restrict the number of files.
Check the link given above as well as this How to Guide
    https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/scn/go/portal/prtroot/docs/library/uuid/3bdc14e1-0901-0010-b5a9-a01e29d75a6a

  • Poll interval for sender file adapter.

I have a 1_sender file NFS file adapter which picks a trigger file from X location in PI application server, this trigger file initiates the unix script present in the sender file adapter.
Unix script brings all the file which starts with 25588* from bank FTP and places in Y location in PI application server then script deletes the "trigger file".
another NFS File adapter  1_receiver file adapter places the trigger file in the X location of PI.
for 1_sender file poll interval given as 86400, that means it should trigger only once a day @ 1:30pm.
But today same sender file adapter had triggered 4 times, could any one let me know the reason why it had triggered 4 times instead of single time.

    Vidya,
    There are two things :-
    1. The polling interval should be 24 hrs;
    2. The polling interval should be 24 hrs and it should poll at 1:30 pm every day.
For any reason if the channel is re-started, then with your present configuration, you will never be able to achieve # 2.
    So, better use ATP.
But today same sender file adapter had triggered 4 times, could any one let me know the reason why it had triggered 4 times instead of single time.
Might be the connection dropped / failed at the time of polling and the channel re-tried. If you give more details (what time and with how much interval it triggered), someone might be able to help.

  • JDBC Sender Adapter without polling?

    Hi,
I need pick up some data from a Oracle 8.1 Database but I don't want to use a polling from a JDBC Sender Adapter. Because this impact the XI performance and we use several BPM's.
    Any Ideas?

    Hi,
from SP19 you should be able to use
a scheduler with jdbc adapter but till then
you need to use some other solutions
maybe you can use a BPM which can be scheduled
(by any interface) and inside use receiver jdbc
    adapter to do a select
or you can start the adapter manually whenever necessary....

  • Sender JDBC - Stops polling

    Hi All,
For some of the sender jdbc channels, we face locking issue. The channel monitor keeps showing same log 'processing Started'.  Based on sdn threads, we tried to remove the jdbc lock in Netweaver Administrator. But it didnt work. As per the sap note
Note 1083488 - XI FTP/JDBC sender channel stop polling indefinitely(04/04S),  planning to try with taskTimeOut parameter.
But what is the optimal value to be given for this parameter?  Then could the Transaction Level be kept to Default? Hope it will not lead to any message loss.
The PI version is 7.1 and service pack level is 4.

    Hi Aarthi
According to JDBC Adapter Note 831162.
Q: During JDBC receiver message processing I see that some messages are in "delivering" state forever. How do I solve this?
A: Please set the receiver channel configuration Exactly Once handling parameters as "local" and "redo". The configuration setting "local" and "error" setting is some times prone to deadlock situations at the DB table level.24.
Also check question 28 in SAP JDBC Adapter Note 831162.

  • JDBC adapter - polling application - is this efficient ?

    Hi,
I have a scenario that is requesting data via the JDBC adapter from an SQL server system and sending the resultset into BW.
This is polling every 10 minutes with the following statement :
    select * from itecs_dummy.dbo.action
    where current_timestamp between
    convert(datetime, (convert(varchar(13), GETUTCDATE()) + '23:40:00.000')) and
    convert(datetime, (convert(varchar(13), GETUTCDATE()) + '23:50:00.000'))
This basically will return zero records 99% of the time as it check the system time is between 23:40 and 23:50
Eventually I will have around 30 JDBC communication channels performing the same frequency of polling but read data from different tables (the system time check will still be the same for each select)
Is this highly inefficent in XI terms ?
Would it not be better to write a simple ABAP to request the data from BW to the JDBC adapter at a fixed time each day therefore cutting out the unnecessary polling ?
    Kind regards
    Colin.

    Hi Colin,
The method you're using is really the only simple solution to workaround XI's lack of a scheduler.
We have about 10 JDBC interfaces live for a year at a large XI client using this workaround. They're polling every 5 minutes and we've never had an issue.
We decided to use this method based on the following:
    1) The load on the DB wouldn't be significant. Even if you have a complex DB select statement, the DB optimizes the call and should run fast if the 'where' clause fails. You can check this with your DBA.
    2) The load on XI would be greater if we implemented this in another way. Any other solution would likely require BPM which is much more intensive for XI then these JDBC calls.
We chose 5 minutes instead of 10 because of the following scenario which could occur although it's not likely:
    - XI polls at 23:41, message is sent
    - XI J2EE goes down at 23:42 and restarts
    - XI J2EE back up at 23:47
    - XI polls at 23:47, message is sent
So in this scenario, you could get 2 messages sent. Since our J2EE stack takes longer than 5 minutes to restart, we resolved this issue by using a 5 minute polling interval.
I think the more elegant and precise way is to make a call from ABAP, but it would be more complex, and put more load on XI due to the use of BPM. If you take into account the above items I think your current approach is the best.
    Thanks,
    Jesse

  • JDBC sender channel running but not picking up the data from sp

    Hi,
One of the jdbc sender channels in production is running at its schedule time but it is not picking up the data from the sql side, we have checked with the sp side and they are saying that sp is running fine. No changes have been done in its configuration. Last message coming in RWB  is Retry interval started but that is of 1 day and its already been 3 days. I tried by starting and stopping the channel but of no use. The channel was re activated but that also didn't help.
Please help, what can be the reason for the same.
    thanks.

    Hi,
The JDBCadapter ( The respective channel) is definitely locked in PI . Ideally for each polling interval a lock is being created and once the processing is over , the lock should be released/deleted automatically to allow further polling interval. If the lock is not released by the system automatically, further polling will not happen as expected. ( This may affect all sender JDBC adapters as well. I would recommend to do a check in all sender JDBC communication channels)
You can see/delete the locks in Visual admin.
Go to Server>Services->Locking adapter and click refresh
The entries for JDBC adapter ( with name $XIDBAD.JDBC2XI) should be deleted by selecting those particilar entries and click delete selected locks.
If you have more than one node, then same should be done in all server nodes.
The temprory solution would be creating/copy the existing channel in ID with same properties and assign it into particular sender agreement.
But, the lock may be created again which potentailly stops all your database interfaces. Hence i would suggest to use Disconnect From Database After processing of Each messages in Advanced tab in the sender JDBC adapter.
    Hope this solves your issue.
PS: The same bahaviour would expected for all file adapter as well

  • JDBC sender adapter outofmemory error

    Dear friends,
We are getting following error on JDBC sender Adapter: Error during conversion of query result to XML: java.lang.OutOfMemoryError: Java heap space (failed to allocate 1073741848 bytes)
I have read blogs where there have been suggestions to limit the amount of data picked by using WHERE condition and not using SELECT *
In our scenario we are creating GL IDOCs . In SQL when PI picks it up it needs to get all the corresponding Header and line items together. We cannot randomly pick 1000 records at a time. The SQL table has 500,000 rows in the following format
    H H H  L1 L1 L1
    H H H L2 L2 L2
    H H H  L3 L3 L3
    H1 H1 H1 L1 L1 L1
    H1 H1 H1 L2 L2 L2
    H1 H1 H1 L3 L3 L3
Please let me know how can we solve this issue?
    Thank you,
    Teresa

If you are using oracle database, uses ROWNUM field to fetch first set of records and you can update those records with the flag as true.
similarly If you are using MS SQL database, uses SELECT TOP command to fetch first set of records and you can update those records with the flag as true.
Like File/FTP adapter, the next poll interval would be as scheduled. The Administrator can then alter the table contents, to ensure lesser no of records are picked up.
Here You need to limit the no of rows if you again face the problem. Please chec the SAP Note
