JDBC URL or not JDBC URL

Hello experts,
I have two WLS 10.3.5.0 running in dev mode: WLS_A and WLS_B.
They both have the same database resource, with the same name, and the same JNDI as well. Each WLS resides on a different Linux machine.
If I set, in the Applictation properties in Jdeveloper, the database properties as JDBC Datasource, I can only deploy on WLS_A, while If I set the database properties as JDBC URL, I can only deploy on WLS_B.
Why on hearth I get this different behavior, even if the WLS servers do have the same version, and the database is declared in the same way on both ?
Is there any other setting on the WLS I'm missing ? I would like to have the same behavior for both server..
Regards,
Sergio.

Yeah sorry, I try to give a more detailed explanation:
- The deployment are in both cases successful, but I get for both server, in the log file - the one generated by startWebLogic.sh - the following warning message:
<17.02.2012 07:21 Uhr MEZ> <Warning> <oracle.adf.share.jndi.ReferenceStoreHelper> <BEA-000000> <Incomplete connection reference object for connection:myConn>
After this message, on the WLS_A the application runs and continue without connection problems, while on WLS_B, after this message the application does not start, and the WLS complains that it can not resolve the JNDI connection.
I have the same connection description on both servers, with the same JNDI name.
From within JDeveloper, where I have the application, I set in the AppModule.xml the values for the configurations: AppModuleShared and AppModuleLocal.
If I set AppModuleShared and AppModuleLocal to JDBC Datasource, I can deploy on both servers, and the application works on both WLS_A and WLS_B.
If I set AppModuleShared and AppModuleLocal to JDBC URL, I can still deploy on both servers, but the application works only on WLS_A.
Thanks so far for the answers, but I'm still baffled by this WLS behavior..
Sergio.

  • REDIRECT JDBC URL WHEN USING DYNAMIC JDBC CREDENTIALS SO NOT HARDCODED

    I have taken over an application that uses row-level security and ADF (using
    dynamic JDBC Credentials). I have been able to set the internal_connection to
    a JDBCDatasource, but cannot set the Connection Type in the Oracle Business
    Component Configuration to a JDBCDatasource. When I do, I receive errors that
    tables are not found. When I set the value back to a JDBC URL, everything
    works fine again.
    I am looking for a solution where the userid and password are not hardcoded in
    the BC4J.xcfg or a way to redirect this information, as we change our system
    passwords every nighty days. Otherwise, I will have to redeploy the
    application every nighty days.
    I did not create this application, but I am sure that you could simply follow
    the "How to Support Dynamic JDBC Credentials" article. From that point, you
    will probably be where I am, where I have the internal_connection set to a
    JDBCDataSource and working properly, but cannot set the Connection Type to
    anything where the userid and password will not be hardcoded or cause failure.
    I wanted to let you know that I have
    found the updated How to Support Dynamic JDBC Credentials
    (http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/jdev/howtos/bc4j/howto_dynamic_jdbc.h
    tml) and was going to run through the "Advanced: Supporting Dynamic JDBC URLs",
    but once I was done keying in
    env.remove(ConnectionStrategy.DB_CONNECT_STRING_PROPERTY); I received a
    depreciation message on the DB_CONNECT_STRING_PROPERTY. (Note: I am coding in
    JDeveloper 10.1.3, so this may be depreciated as of then, but the ADF Libraries
    for JDeveloper 10.1.3 are on our Oracle 10gAS 10.1.2 server.)
    I thought maybe this would resolve my issue, but I can't be sure as the
    deprecation message leads me to believe that this solution may not be viable in
    the future.
    UPDATE
    =======
    The article you are referencing is definitely an older version.
    There is a newer article for 10g at:
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/jdev/howtos/10g/dynamicjdbchowto.html
    Please see if that helps.
    I have already reviewed this article.
    In fact, I have reviewed many versions of this document. I have not seen one
    created yet for 10.1.3 though (especially without JSF as our 10.1.2 AS server
    will not support it). I need to find an example or documentation that shows
    how we can keep from having the JDBC URL stored in the BC4J.xcfg or a way to
    use dynamic JDBC credentials with a JDBCDataSource. We do not want to store
    the userid and password in the application, rather, we would like to setup
    something that can be configurable from the application server.
    I think we need to use the dynamic JDBC credentials because we are using the
    row-level security, where we setup a database context for the user and only
    allow certain records of a database table to be returned to the browser based
    on that context.
    Might there be a way to still use the JDBCDataSource?

    I understand that the user provides the userid and password and that these values are setup using the Configuration class.
    However, when I am to deploy the ADF Business Module with my application, I have to specify either a JDBC URL or a JDBC DataSource in the Oracle Business Component Configuration.
    When I use JDBC DataSource, the code does not work properly, almost like the user's credentials are not used for the connection (I get errors like table or view does not exist).
    When I use the JDBC URL, the bc4j.xcfg stores a reference in the JDBCName attribute to a ConnectionDefinition in the same file. It is in this tag of the bc4j.xcfg where the userid, sid, and password (encrypted) is stored and used when retrieving the initial context of the ADF business components.
    It is these values that I want to have stored else where so that the application does not have to be redeployed in order for the password (or sid, or other connection information) to be change.

  • Deployment using JDBC DataSource instead of JDBC URL

    Hello,
    I've noticed some strange behaviour when deploying an ADF application (11g, latest release) to a WLS (integrated or stand-alone), when using JDBC DataSource as a connection type for the application module.
    Normally, when you create your Business Components, a Database Connection is added to the Application Resources panel, eg MyConnection. If you then set your AM to JDBC DataSource instead of JDBC URL, the default datasource would be jdbc/MyConnectionDS. To make the application use the DataSource defined on the WLS, I then uncheck "Auto Generate and Synchronize weblogic-jdbc.xml Descriptors during deployment" in the Application Properties > Deployment tab.
    So far so good: after deployment to the WLS, the application uses the DataSource defined on the WLS server (jdbc/MyConnectionDS). When changing it on the server to another database, the application indeed uses this other database. Also, the following is automatically added to the web.xml during deployment to .ear file:
      <resource-ref>
        <res-ref-name>jdbc/MyConnectionDS</res-ref-name>
        <res-type>javax.sql.DataSource</res-type>
        <res-auth>Container</res-auth>
      </resource-ref>Now the part that doens't make sense to me: if I delete the password in the Database Connection under Application Resources, I can still deploy the application, but the jdbc/MyConnectionDS on the WLS is not found anymore. While it is still there. I get the following error message:
    Unable to lookup Data Source at context java:comp/env/jdbc/MyConnectionDS
    oracle.jbo.DMLException: JBO-27200: JNDI failure. Unable to lookup Data Source at context java:comp/env/jdbc/MyConnectionDS
    I made the JDev connection (used at development) invalid, and the deployed application stops working (at runtime). While it should just be using the JDBC DataSource defined on the WLS, that is still there. The reason appears to be that when there is no password in the Database Connection in JDev, the entry in the web.xml (see above) is not made during deployment.
    I am doing something wrong? Or is this "expected" behaviour?
    The reason why it bothers me: I have made a reusable component (a Data Control, let's call it A) from a model project, by deploying it to a ADF library JAR. I've set the AM of this project to use a certain jdbc datasource, which will be defined on the WLS.
    When importing the library JAR of A inside another application (B), the connection of the A is added to B. But ofcourse, without the password for security reasons, so we're in the situation described above: When I deploy the new application B, the web.xml is not updated with the DataSource of A, and the application doens't work. And what I would like to avoid, is that whenever someone uses component A, that they have to update the connection details of component A in application B. Because when I fill in the password of application A's Database Connection in application B, all works well again.
    I hope this question makes sense. :-)
    Thanks in advance,
    Chris

    Arun and Krithika,
    Thanks for your replies. I have already done what both of you suggested:
    Chris Schryvers wrote:
    I then uncheck "Auto Generate and Synchronize weblogic-jdbc.xml Descriptors during deployment" in the Application Properties > Deployment tab.I can get it to work, both for deployment on the internal WLS as on a stand-alone WLS.
    My only question is: why does a property at development time (the empty password of the JDev connection) influence the runtime behaviour (the JDBC DataSource not being found after deployment).
    Ofcourse, setting the password for the connection in JDev "solves" the problem. But I want to avoid that everyone who uses the reusable component needs to fill in the password for its database connection. In my opinion, that's the whole point of using a JDBC datasource instead of a JDBC URL: the reusable component just states that there needs to be a jdbc/MyConnectionDS on the server and it can be used as is. Wihtout any modifications at development time.
    What's more:
    Suppose I import the reusable JAR and its connection is added to JDev, without password.
    *) Leaving the password empty: DS not found after deployment (web.xml not adjusted, as mentioned in my original post)
    *) Entering the correct password: DS found, web.xml adjusted at deploy time.
    *) Entering an incorrect password: DS found, web.xml adjusted at deploy time.
    It even works when I enter an incorrect password, which proves that the JDBC DataSource on the server is used, instead of the JDev connection. Then why is the web.xml not adjusted when the password remains empty?
    Arun, I'll check the documention that you linked to, but this just seems like an weird decision in the implementation of JDev/ADF. :-)

  • JDBC Adapter configuration not initialized Error

    Hi,
    I am doing a RFC to JDBC scenario in PI 7.1. I am getting the following error:

    Is the problem related to deployment of JDBC driver or something else? How can i ensure that the JDBC driver deployment is succesful in PI 7.1?

    Hi Senthil,
    Your drivers are not installed properly. Please re-deploy them through SDM.

  • Error oracle.sql.* and oracle.jdbc.driver.* not found when using oracle as a database

    I am using oracle as database and weblogic 4.5. I have copied the classes12.zip file in lib directory of weblogic. I am getting the error that oracle.sql.* and oracle.jdbc.driver.* not found when i am importing these packages in a jsp file. what i need to do to import oracle driver packages?I put it in the classpath also.
    Please Advice!
    Thanks in advance
    AnuPama

    Hi Anupama,
    First of all I would be surprised if you would not like to use the connection pooling feature of weblogic (in which case you might not be needing the import the classes directly), and would like to open direct connections to your database. Anyways for doing that I would recommend you to check out the readme doc that ships
    along with the jdbc oracle (classes12.zip etc). I am giving an excerpt over here:
    These are a few simple things that you should do in your JDBC program:
    1. Import the necessary JDBC classes in your programs that use JDBC.
    For example:
    import java.sql.*;
    import java.math.*;
    2. Register the Oracle driver before before calling other JDBC APIs.
    (This is not needed if you are using the JDBC Server-side Internal
    Driver because registration is done automatically in the server.)
    To register the Oracle driver, make sure the following statement
    is executed at least once in your Java session:
    DriverManager.registerDriver(
    new oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleDriver());
    3. Open a connection to the database with the getConnection call.
    Different connection URLs should be used for different JDBC
    drivers. The following examples demonstrate the different URLs.
    For the JDBC OCI8 Driver:
    Connection conn = DriverManager.getConnection(
    "jdbc:oracle:oci8:@<database>",
    "scott", "tiger");
    where <database> is either an entry in tnsnames.ora or a SQL*net
    name-value pair.
    For the JDBC Thin Driver, or Server-side Thin Driver:
    Connection conn = DriverManager.getConnection(
    "jdbc:oracle:thin:@<database>",
    "scott", "tiger");
    where <database> is either a string of the form
    <host>:<port>:<sid> or a SQL*net name-value pair.
    For the JDBC Server-side Internal Driver:
    Connection conn = DriverManager.getConnection(
    "jdbc:oracle:kprb:");
    Note that the trailing ':' character is necessary. When you use
    the Server-side Internal Driver, you always connect to the
    database you are executing in. You can also do this:
    Connection conn
    = new oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleDriver().defaultConnection();
    Hope this helps,
    Thanks,

    with thanx abd rgds
    Sayed
    so can u tell me

    1. Copy classes12.zip to %TOMCAT_HOME\common\lib

  • JDBC driver - Class oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleDriver not found.

    Greetings:
    When I tried to compile an test script (as attached below) to test the driver, I always ended up with the following error message:
    ....java:17: Class oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleDriver not found.
    DriverManager.registerDriver(new oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleDriver());
    Could somebody shine some light on it? I would very much appreciate it.
    By the way, I have an Oracle DBMS (8.1.7) with jre1.1.7. My Java is jdk1.2 and the driver is ocijdbc8.dll
    Wil
    *************** The test script *************
    import java.sql.*;
    class Users
    public static void main (String args [])
    throws SQLException, ClassNotFoundException
    // Load the Oracle JDBC driver
    Class.forName ("oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleDriver");
    // Connect to the database
    // You can put a database name after the @ sign in the connection URL.
    Connection conn =
    DriverManager.getConnection ("jdbc:oracle:oci8:@US10", "QM24202E", "QM24202E");
    // Create a Statement
    Statement stmt = conn.createStatement ();
    // Select ... table
    ResultSet rset = stmt.executeQuery ("select USERID from USERS");
    // Iterate through the result and print the ... names
    while (rset.next ())
    System.out.println (rset.getString (1));

    check out what thomas Fly wrote on another discussion forum about connection with JDBC, i tried it and i haven't gotten it
    to work yet but at least i don't have the "... not found" error,
    you should try it too, and i think it's good to tell you that i
    still haven't installed the oracle client on my windows Me PC.
    Hope this help you
    This may help also... I have Oracle installed on a Linux PC at 192.168.1.4 on my LAN, listening on port 1521. I can connect from another PC (Linux / Windows ME dual boot, though running Windows at the time of this experiment) using the following program:
    import java.sql.*;
    public class sqlLookup {
    public static void main(String[] args) throws SQLException, ClassNotFoundException {
    String dbUrl = "jdbc:oracle:thin:@192.168.1.4:1521:ORA8";
    String user = "thomasfly";
    String password = "maverick";
    DriverManager.registerDriver(new oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleDriver());
    Connection c = DriverManager.getConnection(dbUrl, user, password);
    Statement s = c.createStatement();
    // SQL code:
    ResultSet r = s.executeQuery("select * from members");
    while(r.next()) {
    // Capitalization doesn't matter:
    System.out.println(r.getString("Name") + ", " + r.getString("id") + ": " + r.getString("email") );
    s.close(); // Also closes ResultSet
    I downloaded classes12.zip for Oracle 8.1.7 and put it into the C:\Windows directory, and mounted C:\Windows\classes12.zip in Forte for Java (equivalent to adding it to the classpath if I were running the program from a DOS window, rather than in Forte).
    ORA8... capitalization may be important... is the name of my database, which may be found in the tnsnames.ora file in $ORACLE_HOME/resources.
    The query gets the Name, id, and email fields from the table "members" in the database.
    This is just a barebones program, and each time it's run, the Oracle listener has to be stopped and restarted before the program can be successfully run again.

  • My iphone wont let me play songs that I bought from iTunes. It says "The requested URL was not found on this server" How can i play my music also my music videos again?

    I bought a few songs and music videos from iTunes, then all of a sudden it wouldn't play and would just skip to the next song. With the music videos it would do the same. Also, this message would show up " The Requested URL could not be found on this server" What does that exactly mean? And what do I need to do to play my music/videos again?

    Running Windows XP service pack 3. Updated Firefox from 8.0 to 9.0. Now when Firefox opens "The URL is not valid and cannot be loaded" is displayed in a window and no home page appears. What's wrong?

    That issue can be caused by an extension that isn't working properly.
    Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).
    *Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.

    Why do i keep getting an Alert message saying "The URL is not valid and cannot be loaded "?
    This happens a lot regardless of the web page. I continually have to restart FF and it persists still

    Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of the add-ons is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).
    * Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.
    See:
    * [[Troubleshooting extensions and themes]]
    * [[Troubleshooting plugins]]
    If it does work in Safe-mode then disable all extensions and then try to find which is causing it by enabling one at a time until the problem reappears.
    * Use "Disable all add-ons" on the [[Safe mode]] start window to disable all extensions.
    * Close and restart Firefox after each change via "File > Exit" (Mac: "Firefox > Quit"; Linux: "File > Quit")

    I receive the error "requested URL is not supported on this network" when trying to play videos on my iPhone. Can you please advise how to fix this problem?

    Hi,
    You will need to re-instal iCal as an optional install from your OSX installer DVDs. Then run the Mac OS X 10.5.8 Combo Update.

  • How to configure SharePoint HNSC with a reverse proxy server so that HNSC Share Point URLs are not exposed to end users.

    Could you please let me know how SharePoint HNSC can be configured with a reverse proxy server so that HNSC Share Point URLs are not exposed to end users.
    In normal path based site collections/web applications, reverse proxy configuration can be done using alternate access mappings with  Public URL = "proxy URL", internal = "HNSC Share Point URL" so that share point sends response back
    to Public URL = "proxy URL".
    In Host Named Site Collections,  alternate access mappings  are not supported. Each HNSC is designed to have only one URL in each zone. Zone is one of the five zones(Default,Intranet,Internet,Custom,Extranet) with each of which only one alternate
    URL is associated.  This is what we are able to get using power shell command "Set-SPSiteUrl", but this will not help us to get the response back to proxy URL after a request sent to share point because we could not find any mechanism in share
    point HNSC to respond  to a different URL(proxy URL). Consequently, Share Point URLs are exposed to  external users.
    Below share point article in MSDN blog is symmetrical to what we are observing with Share Point 2013 and Proxy Server. It mentions that internal HNSC URLs can’t be hidden using any proxy server. If  hiding the internal Share Point URLS is a requirement,
    it suggests to use a web application instead of host named site collections.
    Though I’m also observing the same behavior with Share Point 2013 HNSC, Could you please confirm my understanding is correct.
    http://blogs.msdn.com/b/kaevans/archive/2012/03/27/what-every-sharepoint-admin-needs-to-know-about-host-named-site-collections.aspx
    Excerpt from above article-
    "Host Named Site Collections Only Use One Host Name
    Continuing on the discussion on AAMs and host named site collections, you cannot use multiple host names to address a site collection in SharePoint 2010. Because host-named site collections have a single URL, they do not support alternate access mappings and
    are always considered to be in the Default zone.  This is important if you are using a reverse proxy to provide access to external users. Products like Unified Access Gateway 2010 allow external users to authenticate to your gateway and access a site
    as http://uag.sharepoint.com and forward the call to http://portal.sharepoint.com. Remember that URL rewriting is not permitted. Further, a site collection can only respond to one host name. This means if you are using a reverse proxy, it must forward the
    calls to the same URL.  If your networking team has a policy against exposing internal URLs externally, you must instead use web applications and extend the web application using an alternate access mapping."<u5:p></u5:p>

    Hi Satish,
    You are right that only one URL is allowed for each zone of the host-name site collections in both SharePoint 2010 and SharePoint 2013.
    It is by design that each host-name site collection only support one URL for each zone.
    The article below is about RTM version of SharePoint, and it is the same for SharePoint 2013 with the latest CU.
    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2826457
    So to make the URL of HNSC not exposed to external users is not supported, you need to use path-based sites instead.
    Best regards.

  • Recorded Videos after Sync: The requested URL was not found on this server.

    A few days ago, i recorded a couple of videos. They were saved properly and i could watch them after it in the Camera Roll of my iPhone. Because my memory was almost full, i connected my iPhone to my MacBook and synchronized about 900 old pictures with iPhoto and selected to delete the pictures after the sync. I did not select the recently recorded videos.
    After the sync, i opened the Camera Roll on my iPhone and tried to watch the videos again. But now, they all have a grey icon and it says the duration is 0:00 minutes. When i click on a video, it shows me the following error message:
    The requested URL was not found on this server.
    When i connect my iPhone to iTunes, it says that there is about 350 MB of "Documents and Data" on my phone that I have no idea where it is coming from. Do you think it is possible that the videos are still saved on my phone but my phone doesn't recognize it as videos and can't assign it to the icons in the Camera Roll? Do you have any tips how I can access the videos in case they are still saved somewhere on my iPhone?
    Thank you very much in advance for your help and tips!

    I have the same problem too!! I was deleting some photos and videos in my phone when the next picture I swiped to was a blank picture with JPG in the middle~ after I closed camera roll and reopened it my photos and videos after that picture are all gone~ and I'm left with 3 videos I took about 30 mins before with 0:00 and when I tried to play them the message popped up saying "requested URL cannot be found on this server" T^T does anyone have a solution to this problem?
