JDBC with mysql server

I installed mysql on windows 2000 pro.
and run mysql as standalone (mysqld --standalone).
so what is the default url address of mysql?
is it localhost:3306?
the following is my coding:
public String validateUser(String inputUserid, String inputPwd)
     String returnString = null;
     String dbUserid = "userid"; // Your Database user id
     String dbPassword = "password" ; // Your Database password
     Connection con=null;
     ResultSet rs=null;
     Statement stmt=null;
     try {
     Class.forName("org.gjt.mm.mysql");
     con = DriverManager.getConnection("192.168.0.4:3306",
                              dbUserid ,dbPassword );
     stmt = con.createStatement();
     String sql= "select USERID from USERTABLE where USERID = '"+inputUserid+"' and PASSWORD = '"+inputPwd+"';";
     rs = stmt.executeQuery(sql);
     if (rs.next())
     returnString = rs.getString("USERID");
     stmt.close();
     catch (ClassNotFoundException e){}
     catch (SQLException eee) {}
     try{
     if (con!=null)
                         {con.close();}
     catch (SQLException ee) {}
     return returnString ;
Got the error : not Suitable Driver!
why? please help!

try {
Class.forName("org.gjt.mm.mysql");
con = DriverManager.getConnection(
"192.168.0.4:3306",
dbUserid ,dbPassword );Try replacing 'org'gjt.mm.mysql' with
'sun.jdbc.mysql.Driver'i don't have the driver of 'sun.jdbc.mysql.Driver, in which package or where to download?
but the driver of org.gjt.mm.mysql is what i downloaded from mysql.com, which should be suitable for jdbc! and I also try Class.forName("org.gjt.mm.mysql.Driver"). it doesn't work as well.!!
please help!!
and what is the default url address of mysql server?

  • JDBC with SQL Server

    Hi,
    I am trying to connect to a SQL server database by giving table name in (SPVC) database as spvc.dbo.tablename.. If i want to access another database (SPVC_D), how can i do it without changing my java code?? Can i be able to add the database name to the connection string and i can remove the hard coding (spvc.dbo.) from my java code?? How shall i be able to do that..
    Please let me know.. I am very new with JDBC with SQL server..
    Thanks
    Praveen Padala

    In the MS SQL Server that I use, the following syntax
    spvc.dbo.tablename
    Breaks done as follows...
    <database>.<user>.<tablename>
    However connections are always to a database. Thus when one uses the above syntax it basically runs 'in' the one database and accesses another.
    Depending on various attributes of the tables, if and only if, a table called 'tablename' exists in a database called 'spvc_d' then if you connect to 'spvc_d' then you can access 'tablename' just by using 'tablename'.
    So if that is what you are doing you will not have a problem.

  • Need help setting up JDBC with mySQL and Netbeans

    I've successfully got mySQL up and running and created a few simple test databases. I've been following the instructions on this website (http://www.stardeveloper.com/articles/display.html?article=2003090401&page=1 ) to get JDBC working but have had little luck.
    I've downloaded JDBC from mySQL website, extracted the mysql-connector-java-3.1.13-bin.jar file and changed the class path to :
    C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.5.0_06\lib\ext\mysql-connector-java-3.1.13-bin
    which is where I placed the .jar file.
    I then used the following code provided on stardeveloper.com to test a connection with the test database.
    import java.sql.Connection;
    import java.sql.DriverManager;
    import java.sql.SQLException;
    public class JdbcExample2 {
      public static void main(String args[]) {
        Connection con = null;
        try {
          Class.forName("com.mysql.jdbc.Driver").newInstance();
          con = DriverManager.getConnection("jdbc:mysql:///test",
            "root", "secret");
          if(!con.isClosed())
            System.out.println("Successfully connected to " +
              "MySQL server using TCP/IP...");
        } catch(Exception e) {
          System.err.println("Exception: " + e.getMessage());
        } finally {
          try {
            if(con != null)
              con.close();
          } catch(SQLException e) {}
    }It compiles but when run I get the error message :
    java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: testdatabase/JdbcExample2
    Exception in thread "main"I assume this means that my classpath isn't setup correctly but I have no idea what's up and how to correct it.
    Can someone PLEASE tell me how to setup jdbc and what I've done wrong.
    Thanks in advance :)

    Thanks for your reply. I've made some progress but I'm still having problems.
    In mySQL I created a new user called uraknai with password n0121429 and granted them access to a test database I created called pet.
    Then, in netbeans, I clicked the Runtime tab, clicked Databases and rightclicked Drivers and clicked Add Driver. I then added the driver mysql-connector-java-3.1.13-bin.jar. I then right clicked the newly added driver and selected the connect using option. I filled in the appropriate boxes clicked ok and it connected successfully.
    Then, under the project tab, I right clicked the project name, clicked properties then clicked Libraries and added the .jar file mysql-connector-java-3.1.13-bin.jar
    I then ran the following code to test the connection to the database:
    import java.sql.*;
    public class ConnectionTest {
        public ConnectionTest() {
        public static void main(String[] args)
            System.out.println("BEGIN CONNECTION TEST");
            Connection conn = null;
            try
                   String userName = "uraknai";
                   String password = "n0121429";
                   String url = "jdbc:mysql://localhost/pet";
                   Class.forName ("com.mysql.jdbc.Driver").newInstance ();
                   conn = DriverManager.getConnection (url, userName, password);
                   System.out.println ("Database connection established");
             catch (Exception e)
                   System.err.println ("Cannot connect to database server");
             finally
                   if (conn != null)
                       try
                           conn.close ();
                           System.out.println ("Database connection terminated");
                       catch (Exception e) { /* ignore close errors */ }
    }and get the message:
    java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: math/ConnectionTest
    Exception in thread "main"
    Java Result: 1when I run the code.
    Can someone explin what I've done wrong and how to fix the problem.
    Cheers.

    Well there is something wrong with your database URL you are giving to the driver. You should lookup the documentation for the driver and see what format the URL should be in.
    Here is an open source driver you could try too -- http://jtds.sourceforge.net/

  • JDBC with Sql Server 2005 Express

    Hi,
    I need some help on this. I have a java web application that ran on Tomcat using sql server 2000 db. In my configuration file the driver and server url were
    dbDriver="com.inet.tds.TdsDriver"
    dbServerUrl="jdbc:inetdae7:ECCOLWXPSDE:1433?database=eclife"
    Now this worked fine.
    Now i am using Sql server 2005 express, so i changed the configurations to the following
    dbDriver="com.inet.tds.TdsDriver"
    dbServerUrl="jdbc:inetdae7:ECCOLWXPSDE\\SQLEXPRESS:1433?
    database=eclife"
    But it doesnt work. It doesnt create a connection. Gives a No Connection Exception when trying to use
    connection = DriverManager.getConnection(dbServerUrl, username, password);
    Please tell me what else needs to be done. Or is there a problem connecting to express via jdbc and sprinta.
    Thankyou for your time
    Shirantha.

    Both my Tomcat and Express 2005 are in the local machine. There is not networking involved. What i want to know is what is the different thing that is to be done from sql server 2000 to express 2005.
    In sql server 2000, i have it like :
    theDbDriver=com.inet.tds.TdsDriver
    theDbServer=jdbc:inetdae7:ECCOLWXPSDE:1433?database=eclife
    and this works FINE
    Now i have uninstalled it and installed sql server 2005 EXPRESS, i have it like :
    theDbDriver=com.inet.tds.TdsDriver
    theDbServer=jdbc:inetdae7:ECCOLWXPSDE\\SQLEXPRESS:1433?database=eclife
    and connection is not happening.

    Your code seems ok, you probably end up in another Database than you expect.
    Not sure about the the UseDatabaseName=supermarket clause in your connection string.
    You can confirm that get a connection to another database by changing your query to:
    SELECT * FROM supermarket.dbo.customers
    if this works you probably get a connection to master and should look closer at the UseDatabaseName=supermarket clause.
    You did try to run the query in the Query Analyzer i take it?

    yes, you can do this via the admin gui by modifying the http listener port.
    You can also do this via the cli commandline as well http-listener-1 is the one you want to change the port for.

    I think you should give a username and password. How can it look up a password without a username? Better GRANT the right permissions, too.
    Read the MySQL docs a bit more closely. Your path isn't the way to go.

  • How use Tomcat with MySQL

    Can anybody suggest me as how to use Tomcat with MySQL server.
    Thanks in advance.
    Khiz_eng

    add the classpath to the JDBC-driver to the tomcat-
    environment (I did it in tomcat.sh)
    Then put your code accessing MySQL into a servlet....
    You can put the user-ID and the password into a session-
    object or read them in as parameters.
    The book 'core Servlets and Java Server Pages' from
    Marty Hall gave me a lot information.

  • How to monitor MySQL Server installed in Windows Server using Nagios

    You can do this via NSClient as Gary posted. The NSClient is a communications system that allows nagios to send commands to a target system over the nsclient protocol and they are executed on the remote system. You will still have to build some kind of vbscript or plugin to run on the target system to do the actual query to check on mysql.There are other options to. If you enable snmp on your target computer you can use a few nagios plugins to query the snmp agent on the target computer to see if a service is running. To do this via snmp you will need this plugin "check_snmp_process.pl" fromthis site.Your check command will look something like this:check_win_process:= check_snmp_process.pl -H $HOSTADDRESS$ -C "$USER6$" -n "$ARG1$" -w $ARG2$ -c $ARG3$The service definition will be like this:check_win_process!sqlservr!0!0This will check...

    I installed Nagios Core in my Ubuntu workstation 10.04 for me to learn something new in my craft. I use this now to monitor our Windows Server 2008 with MySQL server installed as well as our Datalink Switch (DGS-1210-24). I searched on google on how to monitor a MYSQL server installed in Windows server using Nagios Core but i could not seem to find any. Could anybody who's expert in Nagios give me steps on how to do so. Thanks. All i found in google were steps in monitoring mysql installed in linux and nothing in windows server.

    Did you check to see that the MySQL database was indeed up and running, and accepting connections when you started Tomcat? Did you make sure that your firewall permits connections to the database?
    Timeout errors generally occur when you send a request to a server and the server does nothing with it - i.e., it doesn't respond to it in any way. Most firewalls are configured this way. If I telnet to your machine and I get "connection refused", I know your machine exists and I can try hacking into it. If I telnet and get nothing at all, then I will either assume either there's no actual machine at that address or it's unresponsive.

  • Can I use Oracle app server with mysql

    Can I use Oracle app server with mysql. I seem to have the following error when trying to create a datastore. I have mysql.jar in my classpath. Can any one tell me what's wrong.
    Error initializing data-source 'jdbc/topup': DriverManagerDataSource driver 'org.gjt.mm.mysql.Driver' not found

    Yes you can forward requests from your own apache to the iAS. This can be done using mod_proxy. Some hints about how to do this are availlable on this forum.
    mod_oc4j is not a standard apache module, and therefore is not availlable when you download apache. There is no apparent reason to use mod_oc4j on a "regular" webserver (unless you want to build your own iAS). Also there might be some licenseing issues with using mod_oc4j module on a standard apache.
    You can encrypt data that is passed from a random Apache to you iAS.
