JdbcOdbc Bridge and Access

Any insights to this problem would be greatly appreciated:
I had developed an application that reads from a text file consisting of millions of INSERT statements and writing them into an Access database. The application uses the JdbcOdbc Bridge. I know that I should be using a more trustworthy DB and JDBC Driver, but assume that I'm just stuck with what I have and can't really do anything about the environment. So anyway the problem I'm experiencing is a memory issue. I'm reading from a text file that is almost .5 Gig (the content are all INSERT and other Update statements), writing the results to a text file which will equal to the size of the read file, then doing the DB transactions. Assume that I properly closed all of my statements, resultsets, connections, would their be anything in the JdbcOdbc driver that could cause a memory leak due to the sheer number of DB inserts? It certainly isn't the writing of the results to a text file as I wrote a separate test that wrote over a gig of data without a memory problem. And it isn't opening the .5 gig file for reading as I also tested that separately without any problems.
I've tried executing the statements that I read from the text file as batches, and it didn't solve the problem. I've tried to manually garbage collect every so often, and that didn't solve the problem. So I decided to use JProbe to help out, but the results didn't show any significant memory usage on my part (or application). Then I decided painstakingly monitor the memory usage via Windows Performance monitor from the Task Manager. It seems that the java.exe (my application) doesn't change much in its memory usage (Processes Tab), but yet the Physical Memory Availability under the Performance Tab steadily decreases as time passes.
So the my hypothesis on the problem rest on the JdbcOdbc Bridge driver and how it might mishandle memory usage. Can anyone help confirm that the JdbcOdbc bridge is not capable of handling such a large amount of database transactions?

Interesting problem. One of the unique aspects of using Access as a database is that when you using the JDBC-ODBC bridge, it must start and use the Access (Jet) database engine in order to read/write to and from the database. There is an excellent chance that the Access/Jet work is being done on the same computer that's running your Java program. I would suggest that since you have ruled out the other components of your architecture, I think you are left with the possibility that Access is eating up the memory.
You mention writing out transactions, but I am curious what you mean by that. When running a batch style program, you need to make a decsion how many updates make up a transaction, where a transaction is defined as all the updates prior to a commit. It wouldn't be abnormal to have 100+ updates per commit. So a question: What is the frequency of your commit? If it's too low, you create inefficiences, if it is to high, you risk running out of memory, or on failure having a very slow recovery / backout process.
Are you using PreparedStatements to do the inserts? This is faster, and uses less resources.
Try not to reuse JDBC objects when using the JDBC-ODBC bridge, or delete and recreate the objects on every commit. I have had problems with the JDBC-ODBC bridge when reusing objects.

And there is the problem. Your pictures are opening up in Mac's own Preview app.
Do you want all your jpegs to open in Photoshop, or only when you are in Bridge?
Selecting a program to open a certain file is called: File Type Association.
You can choose this at the MacOS level or the Bridge level.
Here's how to do both:
Either MacOS or Bridge has the wrong app associated with the jpeg. Let's start with MacOS
Close Bridge and Preview. Select one of your jpegs, and press Cmd i, That will bring up the file info window.
Go down to the "Open with" section of File Info.
Choose Photoshop CS4 and click on the Change All... button to apply this choice to every jpeg on your Mac.
Then open Bridge and see if double-clicking opens it in Photoshop.
Now that means all jpegs on your Mac will open in Photoshop. Maybe you don't want that.
You can set your jpegs to open in Preview when Bridge is closed.
When you open Bridge, there is Preferences > File Type Associations where you can direct Bridge to open the jpegs in Photoshop when you are viewing in Bridge.

here;s my topology i am trying to configure. i have a router whose ethernet is connected to a bridge.this bridge 1 is connected to a bridge 2 via wireless. now i am trying to connect a access-point via wireless to this bridge2. is it possible for bridge 2 to support connectivity to the bridge1 and the access-point both of them via wireless.

You can set up each radio in the access point for different functionality. Considering the scenario, this can be done by setting up the SSID for the G radio and another SSID for the A radio. Then, set the role in the radio network parameter for the G radio to access point and for the A radio to the root bridge role.
ou can prevent unauthorized users from reconfiguring your access point/bridge and viewing configuration information. Typically, you want network administrators to have access to the access point/bridge while you restrict access to users who connect through a terminal or workstation from within the local network.
To prevent unauthorized access to your access point/bridge, you should configure one of these security features:
Username and password pairs, which are locally stored on the access point/bridge. These pairs authenticate each user before that user can access the access point/bridge. You can also assign a specific privilege level (read only or read/write) to each username and password pair.

PS4 rendering very "hot" compared to Bridge and LR2- HELP I am stuck

Have done all kinds of tests and still get a difference nearly equal to setting the vibrance to +50 and the saturation to +6 in LR2 to somewhat equal the look of the imported image in PS2.
Here are the facts:
I have used Bridge to convert the NEFs into DNGs using Camera Standard for the D700 with no other changes;
Lightroom 2 and Bridge give the same rederings in terms of colors and relationships of color to each other. PS4 however, adds lots of yelow, brightens reds and blows highlights. I have opened the file three ways in PS4, three attempts through Bridge with Save and convert, another time with Save and option click, another time with Open. All three methods look equally bad. I have opened the file directly through PS4, not using Bridge. Just as bad.
Now here is the interesting part: when I take spot readings for the image in Bridge and the image in PS4, I get the same numbers.
For example: R,G,B for Bridge: 232,205,162 PS4: 232,205,163.
Should look the same, right?
PS4 Color Settings: Prophoto RGB, Gray gamma 2.2,Dot gain 10%,Convert to working profile, ask for mismatch, Engine: Adobe ACE, all other options not checked.
If I desturate monitor colors by about 15% the image looks closer to Bridge and LR2, but is still more yellow. This is not a good solution for printing reasons, however.
PS4 version 11.0.1 Mac OS/X version: 10.5.8 (not using the latest which is SnowLeopard.)
I have sent the query to Adobe Support, but suspect they'll tell me I don't have support and then there is a time lag, also.

Yes, sorry, you did mention that the Zoom has replaced the Netgear. Regardless, if the Zoom is providing the NAT & DHCP services ... which I would assume that it is by default, the AEBSn should be reconfigured as a bridge.
With AEBSn still configured as a bridge, please try the following:
o Power-down the Zoom, AEBSn, and computer(s); wait at least 10-15 minutes.
o While the equipment is powered-down, connect one of your computers directly to any available LAN port on the AEBSn using an Ethernet cable.
o Power-up the Zoom; wait at least 10-15 minutes.
o Power-up (plug-into power) the AEBSn; wait at least 5-10 minutes.
o Power-up the computer connected by Ethernet.
The computer should now be able to gain Internet access. Please post back your results.

I had to reinstall CS4 and now have error messages when opening bridge and photoshop

The error message is "The specified module could not be found. C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Adobe\Adobe Version Cue CS4\Client\4.0.1\Version Cue.DLL

I tried what you suggested and it did not help. whenever I try to open either photoshop or bridge, I get a message saying that there was a problem loading scripts the last time that Bridge was open and do I want to try loading them again? If I click yes, I get that same error message that I reported in my original question and photoshop/bridge will immediately close. If I click no, photoshop and bridge will open but it will not let me open a raw format document. It seems like Adobe Camera Raw is not being recognized.   One of the updates I downloaded was an update to Adobe Camera Raw so the functionality is there, it just can't be accessed. do you think I should try to uninstall and re-install Photoshop again?

Issue with CS3 Bridge and Flash 10?

Im not finding any help and Im trying to trouble shoot this myself, since I updated to Firefox 3.0.8 apparently the latest version of flash was updated at the same time?
My computer shows Flash 10.0.22.87 (running XP) as being installed in programs but tools>addons> plugins shows 10.0 r22. Is this how it is supposed to be? I've removed and reinstalled this a few times but they never match up.
I've tried back dating to older versions of FF when things ran smoothly as this is the only issue Ive ever had with FF in the years I've used it, but that doesn't seem to help because its still the same flash plugin. Ever since this update I haven't been able to use some other programs such as Adobe Bridge and even AOL since they both have flash components I guess?
I've done a forums search and I keep thinking it has to be something simple like a setting that needs to be changed but I cannot find it. I did delete the old flash folder as suggested in some of the other threads but no change. If anyone has even a decent lead please reply as I've been working on this for 3 days in and out of safe mode but even then I cant run any programs with flash. I have no crash logs because the entire system locks up and I have to do a hard reset. Thank you.

               Actually, I am new to Flash platform. I have developed a flash file and (.fla and .swf files are created) this .swf file I need to use within our project(based on Java) which is to be run in localhost. So, I had followed these steps as I saw in Google Help:
1.) I had opened .fla file(First.fla) and goto File -> PublishSettings -> Formats tab.
2.) In this tab, I had selected .html and .swf checkboxes and deselected remaining all.
3.) Click on "Publish" button and then "OK" button.
So, a html file with same name as that of .fla/.swf file is created in the same folder beside thes .fla and .swf files.
I think it is clear upto this point.
                 Now,
                            If I open my .swf file simply in a browser window(Mozilla), I can view the contents. But, the Buttons, checkboxes, Combo-boxes etc., controls have no access(i.e., any animation, tweening works well but there is no user interaction).
                           Else, When I open my project in localhost(Java project), here somewhere i call my flash file(i.e.,First.swf file). But, the contents of .swf file are not viewed in the case of Mozilla Firefox. But, it works well in InternetExplorer browser including my whole project(i.e., all localhost). Hence, no problems when opened in IE.
Please reply me as soon as possible. It is the only issue to end up my project.

Form Layer 2 to Layer 3 on Distribution and Access

Hi,
Our LAN topology have Core "L3" , Ditribution "L2" and Access "L2". We want to get rid of spanning tree by moving from layer 2 to layer 3 on Access and Distribution layers.
My questions is:
1) Any advice/document on this?
2) in the access switches did I have to configure each interface on 3750 as routed port by issueing "ip routing" and giving an IP address of each port ????. if this is the case than I will need huge amount of IP addresses.

Much of this has already been covered off.
Just to add, I have implemented both routed access-layer and L2 access-layer and each has advantages and disadvantages.
Major advantages for L3
1) STP contained with wiring closet. Yes you can use RPVST+ but you still are extending L2 links between the distribution and access-layer with all that implies eg broadcast traffic. In addtion to utilise both uplinks at the same time requires a lot of extra configuration ie. setting root bridges for odd and even vlans and matching that to active HSRP gateways etc.
2) Automatic equal cost load-balancing (see previous point )
3) Easier troubleshooting. As previous poster said this is a matter of opinion and i have more experience with switching to be honest but i think troubleshooting L3 routing problems is generally easier than L2 STP problems.
Disadvantages
1) Vlan's cannot be extended across floors. May or may not be a problem for you.
2) If your distribution layer utilises 6500's with service modules eg the Firewall Service Module then layer 2 links give you more flexibility in deployment.
3) Cost can be an issue although your 3750's would support EIGRP stub functionality with only the base image.
As another poster pointed out, STP has come a long way from it's 50 seconds failover and with the correct setup it is nowhere near as important that you try and remove it.
I am just as much in favour of L2 access as L3 and most of major sites utilise L2 from the access-layer but with the speed/performance and cost of L3 switching you can get nowadays using L3 is a viable alternative.

1300 Root-Bridge and Non-Root Bridge setup

I have two 1300s that I am trying to set up as Root Bridge and Non-Root Bridge, however, everytime i specify one of them as a Non-Root bridge, the radio0 interface becomes disabled. The only option that i am able to pick that enables the radio0 interface is "Access Point", which is what am trying to avoid it being.
Can anybody help me figure out how to go about this

A non-root's radio will show as disabled if it cannot find the root AP to associate to. Make sure you have "infrastructure-ssid" configured under the SSID on both the root and non-root bridges. Also depending on code versions you may have to configure the distance command under the radio interface on the root.

Aironet 1300 Bridge and AP simultaneously

Hello Everybody I`ll like to use the Aironet 1300 in a Bridge and AP operation simultaneously and I`ll use a Omnidirectional Antenna ANT-2506 to cover clientes. The question is if in this design the non root AP/bridge operate like repeaters and what about the Bandwith. does this anntena work for a AP application? What is the coverage with this anntena for clients and others bridges.
My scenario is a Root 1300 with Antenna ANT-2506 for clients and bridges and 5 1300 (non root) with Antenna ANT-2506 for clients and bridges.

User management and Access Control in HCM Cloud

Information is scarce about User management and Access Control in Oracle Cloud generally. Today, I have two questions :
- How can I bridge HCM Cloud user store with my on-premise IDM or security repository in order to allow identty governance to flow to HCM Cloud service ?
The only information I got was that you can declare manually and by bulk import through files my users. This is not really interresting as I have an automatic IDM with workflows and identity control on provisioning and de-provisioning.
Is there a SPML or proprietary endpoint to do it automatically ? What are the prerequisites ? Do I have to implement OIM on my side ?
- Once my users are created, how can I do webSSO from my internal security repositories to the HCM Cloud service ?
I do not want to distribute new set of login / passwords to my users. Is it possible to do Identity Federation (SAML 2.0 or WS-Fed) with HCM Cloud service ? What are the prerequisites ? Do I have to implement OAM on my side ?
I accept all pieces of information you can give me on this topic to help me understand the funcitonalites, limits and options offered by Oracle Cloud and more precisely by HCM Cloud service.

OIDDAS has limited capability of access control and information hiding. Presently, the permissions and privileges can be set at a realm level, and fine grained access control / information hiding cannot be done.
At present, the only way to restrict view and access control is by appplying ACLs (which is not the safest bet).

CS4 Bridge and Photoshop crash when closing

I am experiencing regular crashes with both Bridge and PS when I attempt to close them. Everything works until that time. I am using an iMac running 10.5.6. This is more nuisance than worry. Any suggestions?

I've seen random crashes on closing and random freezes with a new box and 10.5.6. There are a couple posts here about stability issues, I'm not sure where the problem is, PS, OS, fonts, who knows, but there's something going on.
And, since we (end users) don't have access to a bug list or known problems list with the exception of posts here on the forum, it seems that we are destined to revisit the same problems.

Plug in Issue with Bridge and Photoshop

When attempting to access Bridge in Photoshop (CS5 Extended) I received the following message: "Could not complete the browse in Bridge command because Photoshop was unable to find the JavaScript Plug-in". I have never received this message when using Bridge. I do not know how to access the plug in file. I am not sure how to correct this issue. Any help would be sincerely appreciated. Thanks, DanOmaha

Seems unbelievable that I previously had no problem and now I do. Have you any suggestions to overcome this? Do you think I can go back further in Firefox history to get a version that will make it possible to access this. Many thanks! Lynn

Bridge and AP, using a 1200 series bridge.

I would like to bridge from an AP1131 to an AP1262 using the 5.8 ghz radios then allow access via the 2.4 ghz radio on the 1260. I will use a directional antenna for the 1260 bridge to optimize performance. The 5ghz radio will only be used for bridging. The ap 1131 is an AP right now but only offers access on 2.4 ghz. There are only a few clients.
The 1130 will be sitting in a window with the ant5160 outdoor mounted and pointed at it from ~200 feet away.
Does anyone see an issue? Maybe suggest a better parts list. I was originally thinking of using a 1310 as the bridge and a 1140 as the AP but that configuration is not as flexiable and the 1310 part is very old... I understand I will not get N throughput since the 1130 is not N capable, it is already installed. I need autonomous AP and can upgrade to 1140 in the future to improve performance.
I plan to upgrade to WCS next year, does it support this type of configuration? I am assuming that IOS does...
So here are the part numbers that I plan to use.

I am a little confused by your post but can offer some answers.
First of all I assume your intending to purt the external antennas on the 1262 not the 1130.
In terms of configuration you will need to configure 1 of the 802.11a radios in either the 1130 or the 1262 as a station role of root and the other in station role of non-root, that will enable them to connect to each other and bridge, then you can configure the 802.11b/g radios any way you choose and everythign should work as I think your intending,
over this distance you may get decent speeds. I'd be more inclined to use 1262's on each side with appropriate antennas; depending on what exactly your trying to accomplish on each side as far as coverage goes..
In terms of moving to WCS and lightweight mode it really doesn't support this configuration.
