JDev 10g Developer's Guide....

Is there any Oracle e-book (free) guiding a developer to develop forms (of all types) in Jdev 10g (10.1.2. or 10.1.3)...???

Humm, thats kinda like walking into a car dealership and telling the salesperson "I want to buy a car"...
Fundamentally speaking, JDeveloper is just another IDE and there are many others like it, JBuilder, Eclipse, emacs (thats right I went there!) etc.. Its hard to distinguish these tools if you are just starting out on the arduous and humble path of software engineering. They can all more or less accommodate various n-tier technologies and allows you to build simple "hello world" examples to complex enterprise level applications. My advice is to pick first pick a technology then a simple project to start off. I'm not sure of your technical background, but speaking personally I got bit by the programming bug when I started using emacs to build a Swing based board game back in college, I didn’t read too many books, just lots of online tutorials (probably explains why all the code went into 2 or 3 files). Anyhow, I'm not sure if that was too helpful, but the point is you need to have a starting point, pick a couple of technologies first, then lets take it from there.

Creating BC4J Package in Jdev 10g ( EBS R12)

According to the tutorial attached with Jdev 10g, In order to create BC4J package for Client (UI) Object, you have to right client and select New Business Components Package....from the contact menu. But in Jdev 10g, I do not see that option. How do I create the BC4J package for Client (UI) Object ?

OA Framework Forum would be a better place to ask.
At any rate, I know that the developer's guide for OA Framework hasn't really been updated for R12, and that a lot of the instructions are a bit difficult to follow due to the change from JDev 9i to 10g.

Migration from J Dev9.034 to Jdev 10g

What are the series of steps involed in converting a BC4J-STRUTS-JSP application developed in Jdev 9.034 to Jdev 10g.
All our Actions extend Struts action and Form Bean Extend ActionForm. Will this be an issue when we need to migrate to Jdev 10g.
Please share the experiences.

But what we are looking for is a migration guide from 9.034 to 10g. This is where the new ADF concept has been added.
Do we need to change all the actions if we migrate to 10g or not??

Slightly off topic: JDev + 10g + recommended laptop

Hi gang
This is a slightly off-topic post in the forum. Apologies to the forum moderators up front.
I'm in the process of purchasing a new laptop for development. Among other things I need to run Oracle 10g, + JDev + Solitaire.
My assumption for such a laptop is I'll need a fast hd (7200rpm+) for builds, and lots of memory to run Oracle 10g and memory hogging Java JDev. Also extra screen real-estate would be ideal with the multi-pane JDev.
However without the ability to walk into a laptop supplier, load up the software and do some tests, I'm not sure what would be sufficient. I don't want to go overboard on features in order to save $s, but I don't want something that wont run fast enough without bugging the Hell out of me either.
Does anybody have any recommendations on what laptop they are currently running or what they would buy to run Oracle 10g + JDev? Are my assumptions correct or does anybody run this config with less, happily?
Any help appreciated.

I have been doing all of my jdev + oracle development exclusively on my PowerBook G4 for over a year now. JDev 9.0.5.2 runs great, and so does the new 10.1.3 preview. I have upgraded the memory on it to 1.5 GB, but even with the stock 512 it ran well. Plus, there are all of the productivity benefits from running Mac OS X. I was skeptical about it at first, as you might be, but once I switched over, I haven't even looked back. The 17 inch screen is beautiful, it works just fine on the Windows network at work, has all of the Unix tools underneath, and for the very few times a windows machine is needed, Virtual PC helps out. Do yourself a favor and check it out.

I have done some jDev 10g tutorials for jsp, j2ee, struts. When i started to write some code on my one many problems appeared. So i am interested, where to get info, documentation or how to work with jdev 10g.
To get questions like :
-What is diferent between struts action and action data?
-How to develop with modules? If i'd like to have login, forum, calendar modules and use them in difrent application.
- ...what can be done with jdev 10g an also how
Any links or book titles would be fine or suggestions how to learn developing j2ee applications with jdev 10g.
By the way I am studen who'd like to learn as much as possible to be a good developer for j2ee applications.

I have to create a simple login page to my application.
I created fusion web application.
based on table data(username, password) i need to give authentication to application.
I have employee table with level (developer,TL,Manger,Vp,Ed) based on level i need to give page,button access.
if a low level employee logins should not allow to edit, create.
or is there any in-build functionality or need to write coding.

with Oracle Developer 10g 9.0.4 is no problem to connect to Oracle 8i.
with Oracle Developer 10g 10.1.2. you need the Patch 8.1.7.4 for 8i, i think.

Jdev 10g with 9iAS

I have seen that others have ask about a whitepaper in metalink on hoe to get a project developed in JDev 10g to work with 9iAS(9.0.2). But i can not find any answers!!!
Can anyone direct me to the link? Or does anyone know the list of Libraries need to install to get this to work.

Running jdev 10g from server

I have a strange (or not so strange) question. My application providers want to make jdev 10g available via a novell application launcher meaning that instead of installing, they want to run it form the server -> one install image -> need to set jdev_user_dir for everyone uniquely. Has anyone tried this? Is there a document on how or why one should or should not do this? I did some searches, but maybe I'm not searching on the right keywords. I assumed that installs to the developers workstations would be best, but what do I know? :-)

Error while installing oracle 10g developer suite on windows xp

I am getting following error when i am trying to install the oracle 10g developer suite windows xp with sp3

Even i have enough space of my C drive plus i m the administrator on my PC. I changed the temp location as well and download the zip files(installation) again but it doesn't work. Kindly provide some solution for this error.

Error Code: 502 Proxy Error. The ISA Server denied the specified Uniform Resource Locator (URL). (12202) This means you already have ISA configured as proxy server. Disable the proxy from the browser and you should be able to access the application. Or simply add the application URL to the list of the proxy exceptions.
