Jdev in Linux

So I asked this question earlier and someone told me 10g works just fine through Linux, even though the site says it is only supported by Windows. I downloaded it onto my Linux machine, and now I am stuck. The jdevw.exe of course doesnt work (least not double clicking, and I am still learning Linux) so Im not sure where to go next. Is it true JDev works through Linux?

I have gotten JDev10g to work but the design diagrams do not work. I have included the basic Stack trace of the problem.
Here is the message I recieve.
The application has tried to de-reference an invalid pointer. This exception should have been dealt with programatically. The current activity may fail and the system may have been left in an unstable state. The following is a stack trace.

As you use a version of jdev which is not available to the public, you should better ask your question on an internal forum.

• Problem with german characters (Umlaute) when working with JDev for Linux

Hallo ...,
i have a site in uix code under Linux. When i want to use ... confirm("...löschen...?") the JDeveloper can't handle the ö. When i want to use ö i've got an error. It's only when i work under Linux. When i make the same under Windows i can use ä, ö, ü. What can i do?
Any help is appreciated.

What do you mean by that? The problem being talked about here is an inability to make French accented characters on a German keyboard. What is your problem exactly?
I've posted here because I guess it may be the same bug.
After upgrading I wasn't able to do special characters, including some accented vocals, like "ì", very common in italian language.
Then I've added an english keyboard, removed the italian one and added it again, so the problem with missing accented vocals was solved.
I still have the same problem with special consonants, like "z" and "c": if I hold my thumb on such letters, I have no options like, say, "ż" (such characters are very important for my field (linguistics) and if Apple won't solve this problem I'll be forced to look elsewhere).

• Problem with installation on LINUX

Hi,
i´m trying install jdev on linux (suse 9.0). I set path for jdk a jvm and when run jdev.exe, i get this exception:
java.lang.InternalError: Can't connect to X11 window server using ':0.0' as the value of the DISPLAY variable.
Can you help with this problem?
Thanks

Try executing "xhost +" before running JDeveloper. Did you login via XDM as a different user than you are using to run JDev? That's normally the cause for these X permission issues.
Hope this helps,

• Cut and paste not working on linux?

Hi,
I am a beginning user of Jdeveloper. I noticed that I can cut and paste to and from my windows applications to my Jdev on linux, but is unable to cut and paste from emacs or xterm to and from Jdev on the same linux box. Is there a simple configuration somewhere that I forgot to set?
Now, I must use my windows notepad as a middleman to do cut and paste...really inconvenient.
Thanks,

1. Open Disk Utility and repair the permissions

Please let me know what is the solution/work around/suggestion, thanks in advance.

I run into this problem today and since there is no solution posted for it, I will post my solution to it for future reference:
This problem appeared all of a sudden - I was able to deploy before - when deploying from JDeveloper 11.1.1.4 onto WLS (standalone version shipped with JDeveloper 11.1.1.4). The solution that worked for me was to copy the needed library - sunjce_provider.jar - from the java jre/lib/ext directory to the domain's lib directory. This will add the needed jar to the server's classpath during startup and allow you to deploy.

• PMD in JDeveloper 10.1.3.

Hi,
I am trying to install the PMD extension tool in my Jdev (10.1.3.1.0.3926). I tried using the Check for Updates feature in the Help menu. That does not work as it says "No update available" . I also tried through "Open Source and Partners Extensions" site from the same dialog. Here PMD 1.8 is shown as one of the available downloads. But on selecting it I get a connection timeout.
I downloaded the latest PMD binary release from the sourceforge site and unzipped it and put the contents in my jdev/lib/ext directory. PMD option does not come up in the Tools->Preferences dialog in JDev even after restarting. And if I try to add the extension manually by selecting "Install from Local File" radio button in the Update Center dialog and then selecting the JAR files from the unzipped binary, I get an error saying "....zip does not contain a bundle manifest in META-INF/bundle.xml".
Note please, I am running my JDev on Linux.
I have used PMD earlier in Eclipse on Windows XP where just putting the JAR in the extensions folder worked. How do I do the same in this setting? TIA.
Cheers,
Rahul

Was wondering if there is some GUI based tool to customise PMD rulesets.Try asking on the PMD forum: http://pmd.sourceforge.net/
is there any way that the Checkstyle extension can be used in JDev? It should be easy to set this up with the tools->External Tools menu option and just invoking the command line for the utility.
One more options it to use the Ant task for this.
Note is that JDeveloper has a built in audit framework that does a similar functionality to what you are describing.
See the tools->preferences->audit and the Run->Audit menu options.
You can add audit rules and even automatic fixes to the framework:

• Connect from JDeveloper 11g TP4 to Weblogic 10.3

Hi,
Did anybody manage to connect to Weblogic 10.3 from JDeveloper 11.1 TP4 ?
I looks different from the tutorial provided by Shay Shmeltzer on how to connect JDev 10g to Weblogic. With 11.1 TP4, I create the an Application server connection, I've put the path to the weblogic.jar in the field named "Path to Weblogic containing Weblogic Client" but when I test the connection, I get "Cannot instantiate class: weblogic.jndi.WLInitialContextFactory" which suggest the jar is not loaded. I run JDev on Linux, I've copied the file in "JDEV_HOME/jdev/lib/ext (I've created the directory)", "JDEV_HOME/jdev/extensions" and "JDEV_HOME/jdev/lib" and bounce Jdev. Same error.
The online doc doesn't say more that what I've guess. Obviously I'm doing something wrong. Can anybody help me, it may be obvious because nobody seems to have asked that question in this forum.
Thank you very much for your help. Best Regards
Gregory

Gregory,
an EAR file deployment will always work ;-) However, then you don't have the ADF libraries installed on WebLogic 10.3 wich will cause the next problem. So unless you deploy the whole ADF libraries with your application (appr. 70 MB) you need to enable the WLS 10.3 instance for ADF running the ADF installer from the production version. This adf installer is part of the JDeveloper / WLS installer that you can obtain from otn.oracle.com/products/jdev
At the end of the day the TP4 turns out to be what it is: a technology preview that gets you started but not more

what might be wrong?

It seems there is a problem with one of the JDev JAR files (extraction problem, privilege, ...)
In your <JDEVELOPER_HOME>\jdev\lib directory, could you execute the command ls -l jdev.jar ?
What's the outcome?

• Jdev 11g pre3 Preforms on Windows contra Linux

Have been working a lot with the Jdev 11g, think it is nice and easy to work with.
Except after a little time (or bigger project) it gets really slow, takes like 30sec, when changing a property and tabbing out. (If you look a the memory usage it runs around 2-4 GB, with only Jdev running plus standard Windows stuff)
Have now been trying on:
XP prod on a Dual Core Pc with 2 GB ram
Win 2003 Server – server with 8 gb ram
Now I tried to work a little with it on a Kubuntu (running on a virtual Pc 2007 (1 GB ram), and here it seem to a much small issue with the slowdown and with the memory usage.
Should there be a different between running Jdev 11g on a Window or Linux PC?
Have anyone tried to work a longer period on a Linux PC with JDev?

Hi,
note that the IDE performance issue is mentioned in the release notes of JDeveloper 11. It also mentions that this is an area that developers are looking at in a release version TP3. Performance should not vary too much between OS.

• Linux Diff tool as External tool in Jdev to compare two files

Hi, I was looking for adding any diff tool to compare two files in Jdev. I added the usual Linux "diff <file1> <file2>" to compare two files. The way I have provided arguments compares a file against itself.
Program: diff
Arguments: ${file.name} ${file.name}
Directory: ${file.dir}
My requirement to to right click on the two files which I want to compare and the open them in any diff tool.
Any ideas?
Regards,

Which jdev version?
