JDev3.0 - Creating Forms Pluggable Java Components

I am trying to create my own version of the checkbox for
deployment on web within Forms6.
From the Forms6 help it seems the best way to do this is to
subclass the oracle.forms.ui.VCheckbox item.
However, when using the JDev wizards to create this I hit a
problem. I start by doing the following:
File, New Project, Next,
'A Project containing a new...', 'Oracle Forms PJC',
Next buttons until Finish, then select the
oracle.forms.ui.VCheckbox from the Extends drop down list., OK
At this point the java file is created, but is empty.
The wizards dialog box remains up but Ok and Cancel buttons are
greyed out.
What next?
Also is there any better documentation than the Forms Help which
only really explains Beans.

Hi,
Jdeveloper 10.1.3 doesn't have the PJC wizard installed. If you want to use JDeveloper 10.1.3 for your PJC development then you need to add frmall.jar (or f90all.jar) to your project and copy and paste an existing PJC template into an empty Java source file. You can also create a code template in the JDeveloper preferences so that the PJC code is added using a keyboard shortcut

  • Can Designer10gR2 generate Forms with Pluggable Java Components and WebUtil

I know that Forms 10g supports Pluggable Java Components and WebUtil. Designer 10g R2 provides Design Capture of Forms to Modules. Can Designer capture a Form with Pluggable Java Components and WebUtil and then regenerate Form from within Designer? IF yes, would you give me more details. Thanks.

why did Java designers make it this difficult ? do people say this is something bad about Java ?

But the truth is that Oracle Forms application tie down all the components in fixed pixels. The typical Swing form can be resized and can function at different screen resolutions. So, when designing a Java form, we don't tend to work on a fixed grid but define the sizes and positions relative to other components. What's more the interface between the form elements and the data is completely flexible, and flexibility means extra effort.

Most I've tried have been a bit of a straitjacket, but I've recently been using the latest Netbeans offering and it's pretty good. I think the breakthrough was the introduction of the GroupLayout layout manager. This is a layout manager really designed for WYSIWYG form designers (pretty challenging to use hand coded).
The way these things work is that the class generated contains some methods which cannot be edited by hand, but you can add any amount of your own code without interfering with the generated code. You hook your own code snippets into the generated code, for example you can select a property of an object, say the model of a JTree, and select "user code", then type in an expression returning the TreeModel you want to use.
With listeners the designer will generate the method signature etc. but you can edit the body of the listener method.
However I would always recommend that you hand code a form or two before resorting to on of these editors because it's important you understand the code, even where a designer writes it.

  • Generated Forms and Java Components

I have seen many threads about enhancing forms with Java - including webutils.
Our application is mostly generated from Designer (near 100%) and I was wondering how to include these java calls in the repository - which may well mean this is the wrong forum!!
Basically if the code is enhanced with these java calls can it be entered in the repository for regeneration?

    Jon,
good question. As far as I know Designer does not store Java code in its repository. However, the Java code alsways is held outside of Forms in a jar file which means that if you can set the implementation for an item class in Designer or add a Bean Continer to a canvas, you can use it with Designer. I am passing this question forward to somebody who know it better than me.

  • Pluggable Java Components (PJC) / Beans in Forms

I am looking for some sources of PJCs or beans that can be used in Forms beyond those listed on OTN. Specifically, I'd like to find a much more feature rich tree control that supports drag and drop to move tree branches, and more of the windows-like native functionality.

Check the viewlets to see how to develop and deploy them and you can even get code to use them.

  • Understanding Pluggable java components

    Hello
i read several example and actually sucessfully implemeted them, however, i have not found a single document that explains the lifecycle of a java bean.
i mean, there is an init(), that seems to be called automatically , more importantly when exactly is the bean instentiated. if i make a call to set_custom_property and passed a separate property each time, is the bean instentiated twice, or it is a call to the same object. because i need to actually pass several properties to my bean

    Hello,
You are right, this kind of documentation is hardly inexistent.
From what I Observed, the Java Bean is created or initialized only when it is physically displayed on the screen, reason why you can get a Java error if you want to use the Set_Custom_Property() built-in on a Java Bean that has not been displayed yet.
I also think that the Java Bean is destroyed when the windows that holds it is destroyed too.

  • Pluggable Java Components

I just got the rollover button working. I haven't been this excited about Oracle forms for quite some time! Amazing potential here. Does anyone know of a good resource fo PJC's? I am looking fo a poplist type control which auto reduces as the user types.
    Thanks,
    Dan

    gday dan -
glad you were able to make the PJC work. Did you come across any problems or difficulties in the setup?
I'm not aware of any existing PJC component that provides the functionality you are looking for. It's a good idea.
We'll put this on the list of possible examples for the future.
We're currently working on a feature for 6i that will allow you to call out to server side Java from Forms PL/SQL..... stay tuned for more info!
    cheers!

  • How to create table in interactive form via Java Web Dynpro

    Hi,
How to create table in interactive form via Java Web Dynpro ?
Any online tutorial / example ?
    Thank you.
    Regards,
    Eric

    Hi Eric,
Just choose the UI element Table from Form Library and drag and drop it on the form. now choose the no. of rows and columns and other settings you want about table from the wizard initiated through this process. This all is what you have to do to create the table. Now to bind it to the fields of the data source bind the individual colums to individual attributes of the node in the datasource.
Hope it will solve your query.

  • Tutorial about creating java components?

Is there a good tutorial on how to create java components for stellent?
I've followed the customization course at oracle's a few weeks ago but it didn't involved any java component. We learned to create components with idoc script and learned everything about resource files.
I know want to create a java component but i don't know where to start. I read te documentation about "Working with components" but it didn't help me much.

Nevermind, I got it on FTP.

Edited by: Savio85 on Jun 10, 2010 4:07 AMSo you expect people to sign up to Google so that they can see Google docs? Why should anyone make any effort to help you if you make this little effort to create any sort of problem description?
Anyway, if you want to create an "interactive form" using Swing, there is only one thing to do: learn the Swing API. Lucky for you there is a great online resource for that:

  • ADF create form problem

Hello forum, I know - I am back again. But I am having all kinds of issues developing this ADF BC create form. Given the following scenario, can somebody please explain how he/she would set out to create the following ADF create form?
You a have a db entity call it table with fields1 through 10. During any create transaction, one of field1 or field2 or field3 must be present together with field4 through 10. That is, field1 can be entered along with fields 4 to 10 or field2 can be entered together with fields 4 to 10 or field3 and fields 4 - 10. Field10 can have four exclusive choices (say a, b, c, d) and should default to d (radio button). Field3 should store the name of an uploaded file. At no time can fields 1, 2 and 3 be entered. It is either one or the other.
Here's how I set out to develop this and have been running into all sorts of problems from Row inconsistency issues to 500 Internal errors. I created an unbound select one Radio component with three choices to display either field1 or field2 or field3 depending upon the radio button selected. I used the switcher facet to hide fields 1 and 2, show field 3 if radio button 3 was selected. So whenever radio button 1 was selected, field1 would be displayed, then fields 2 and 3 will be hidden. Initially, I used regular input components to display fields 1 to 3 and then try to map them back to the database but couldn't figure out how to do this. I then followed John's suggestion to use transient entity attributes. I did this but still couldn't figure out how to access their values so I could set the relevant db columns accordingly.
Because of the way this requirement is, I had to drag and drop field1, 2, and 3 in three different single drag and drop operations, then drag and drop the entire collection with the option to include the submit button, delete fields 1 through 3 in another operation. This created 2 different iterators in the pageDef file. I am not an expert yet on ADF but maybe this might be part of my problems. Trying to use two different iterators to insert into a single table during a single DML operation. But then again both iterators are bound to the same entity. I am not sure anymore.
Is anybody kind enough to take a look at what I have so far? John? Frank? Steve? Anybody? I am trying to make that switch from oracle forms to ADF. This is actually my first ADF form and so far it has been very frustrating. I really need help on this guys!!
    Thanks

Thanks for the suggestion Frank! Just so I understand you, the ADF Faces text component that I am adding would be in addition to the radio select one component? Then if you click on radio button 1, enter data in the text field, that action should bind it to field1 and similarly for the other fields when radio button 2 or 3 is clicked? In this case I am assuming that I do not have to display the actual db fields1 - 3 on the form?
This would be fine for fields1 and 2 (though field2 would require one to enter a substantial amount of text - on average a 1000 characters as opposed to field1 that has a maximum length of 40 characters). Field3 however is different because it should be an inputFile component in order to download OS files and store in the database. Thus the ADF Faces text component might not be able to handle this without substantial additional java code.
Thanks again for your suggestions. I really appreciate it!

Though we have configured Java in solution manager the stack file that is generated does not contain any java components
You will probably need to update Solution Manager first with a number of corrections so you can get a correctly generated stack file. Depending on your ST400 version in Solution Manager apply collective corrections from "Note 1461849 - MOpz: Collective corrections 24" or "Note 1452118 - MOpz: Collective Corrections 23". They generally deal with these kind of stack file issues.
