JDeveloper 12.c - Entity Object Transient Attribute Behavior

Hi
Just wondering if the following behaviour is the expected one for a new attribute in an Entity Object;
The only way to be allowed to write an expression as default value is if the attribute itself is persistent. If transient is selected, the only available option for default value is SQL. So I need to put as persistent momentarily while writing my expression and then change it to transient.

Hi,
no, this is not intended. If you have a support contract or internal access to the bug database, please file a bug

  • View Object Transient attribute, refresh problem.

    I have a VO which contains 3 entities joined. I added it a transient attribute with Groovy expression. My expression is : ReplyView.count("ReplyId"); , it counts two VO relationship. it counts normally but, when i insert a new reply, it doesnt refresh/update/recalculate the value. Whats the problem?

    The dependency values referred to are accessed when you edit the transient attribute in the view object. On the left hand panel select dependencies and shuttle the columns that the transient is dependent on. I don't think this matters for non-entity based views since the SQL is fixed but for entity based views this assures the dependent columns are added to the query even if they are not needed by the page.

    In my scenario i have application module A in my main application. I created another data model with Application module B. I imported AM B into my main project.
    The problem is that when i have a transient attribute based on SQL statment in AM B, it gives me error in runtime on the interface but when i run the application module it works fine ... i do not know why

  • View Object transient attribute (Calculate sum) using groovy problem

    Hi
    I have a read only view object named "ConnectionVVO". And it has database field name "points"(type is number).
    Now I need to take the sum of points.
    For this I did the following.
    Self view object added to the same view object as a view accessor named "ConnectionVVO1".
    Created a transient attribute named "TotalPoints".
    Added following groovy as the value expression of the above transient attribute.
    adf.object.ConnectionVVO1.getRowSet().sum("points")after that when I run the application module and run the view object it was extremely slow. Actually nothing was appeared. There after I modified the sql statement and added a where clouse to select few rows.
    Then it was appeared without slowness.
    The table has around 11 million records.
    Could you please provide a hint or any alternate way for doing this(getting the sum of points).
    Please help.

    Hi Timo,
    Thank you very much for the explanation and direction. I will do that way. I have found that implementing view object and view row class I could do the similar kind of thing for the transient attribute.
    public Number getTotalPoints() {
    RowIterator con= getConnectionViewImpl();
       Number sum = new Number(0);
       while (con.hasNext()) {
          sum = sum.add( (Number)con.next().getAttribute("Points"));
        }    return sum;
      } took form
    http://technology.amis.nl/blog/1295/creating-a-dynamic-ajax-column-footer-summary-in-a-table-component-using-adf-faces
    But it also slow as 1 st method
    I am wonder whether both ways behave as similarly or they are totally different implementation?

  • Validation of attribute in Entity Object with List Rule Type

    hi all
    I have an entity "currncy" and I want to make
    a validation in entity level on its attribute "Isdefaultcurrency"
    which is boolean.
    Entity Object : Currency
    attributes :
    1. Currencyid DBsequence
    2. Currencyname String
    3. Isdefaultcurrency, Boolean, CheckBox
    Rule Type : List
    Operator : In
    List Type : Query Result 'select ISDEFAULTCURRENCY from currency where ISDEFAULTCURRENCY=1'
    I want when user insert in table, validation checks the attribute 'Isdefaultcurrency'
    was true then show the error message that there was default currency and if you
    want to set it to true (or default) you must change another record that was true
    and uncheck it then back to current record and will make it true and
    there is one record in my table that its attribute 'Isdefaultcurrency' must be true
    this validation that I used , it does not work correctly and it allows to enter 2 records with
    true value for Isdefaultcurrency. In fact I want when User Enter the First record and
    set the Isdefaultcurrency to true then enter the second record and set the Isdefaultcurrency
    to true the error message will be shown.
    pleas explain it
    Edited by: Marzieh on Jan 30, 2012 9:43 PM

    Is it that you want to only allow one record in the table to have isdefaultcurrency='1'?
    yes , that is correct . I used Oracle DataBase .
    DECODE(isdefaultcurrency, 1, 1, null) please explain about it.
    isdefaultcurrency attribute has boolean Type with 0 or 1 values.
    I would like to show an error if check box was checked for the second time. The idea is that just
    one check box should be checked.
    thanks for your answer

  • Dynamic Creation of Entity Objects (ADF Business Components)

    Hi All,
    We have a requirement to create Entity Objects for the dynamically generated tables in our application and at the same time bind them to different views.
    Our product create multiple tables at runtime with some sort of naming convention, and we couldn't find a way in JDeveloper to generate entity objects for the tables created dynamically.
    Please provide some pointers if you have experienced or worked on similar requirement.
    Thanks,
    Nikhilesh

    Thanks for the help Sudipto.
    The link which you have shared, describes the creation of an entity object and then modify the operations like Delete Update and Insert etc to be performed on the entity object by creating IMPL classes and implementing certain interfaces.
    But I need to create Entity objects dynamically. My application creates new tables for some functionality at the run time and I have to create Entity objects for those new tables as soon as the new tables are created.
    I was just wondering if, there is any API available for creating the entity object from Java code instead of invoking the wizard in the Jdeveloper.

  • How I configure a default value in an entity object?

    Hi,
    1:how I configure a default value in an entity object?
    attribute type: DATE
    I want to set the current date
    ...thanks

    Override the create() action in your entity object implementation:
    protected void create(AttributeList attributeList)
    * This method should be subclassed to supply programmatic default values to
    * various attributes of a new Entity Object. For example, to create a sequence.
    * Instances of subclasses should call super.create() before performing any operations.
    System.out.println("create(AttributeList attributeList) - start");
    Date datSysdate = ( oracle.jbo.domain.Date) Date.getCurrentDate();
    super.create(attributeList);
    // set the default to today...
    setHiredate( datSysdate );
    System.out.println("create(AttributeList attributeList) - end");
    }

  • How to save transient attributes?

    Hi,
    I have a query related to saving the View Object transient attributes :-
    Following is the scenario which we want to implement:-
    1. We have a  page on which we are using a table component with 5-6 VO transient attributes and n number of rows.
    2. There is a save button on the page which allows user to save the activity which he is performing and able to resume the activity later on.
    3. As soon as he click on the save button, all the EO attributes get persisted.
    4. When he re-opens a flows, he can see a resume button which allows him to resume the activity from the point he left.
    5. So User should be able to see the changed he made on the table component on clicking the resume button which he made before saving the activity.
    Now, the question is how we can retrieve the transient attributes on resuming the activity or is there any way by which we can save the transient attributes of View object ?
    Please help !!

  • Transient Attributes in Entity object vs View Object

    Hi Everyone,
    I need some suggestion with my project. I have a vendors table based on which I created an entity object (columns: vendor_id, contract_id, so on ) but I want to display vendor_name in UI which can be read from other table. I thought of using a transient attribute to populate this vendor_name.
    It is working fine when I create a new record (where I handled this in LOV return value of vendor_id field and it return vendor_id, vendor_name values) but when there is edit/view of page, this vendor_name is null which means I need to populate it during page load /refresh time. Can someone suggest me a better way to populate this transient attributes. I also want to know when should I use transient attributes in Entity object (I saw most of the developer using VO transient attributes in these kind of situation)
    Thanks,
    Ravi

    Hi,
    also want to know when should I use transient attributes in Entity object (I saw most of the developer using VO transient attributes in these kind of situation)
    transient values in entities are saved in the entity cache and thus can be changed in the UI. If you use transient attributes on the VO then these are read-only. All transient attribute however need to be populated upon page load, which you can do in a ViewRowImpl class that checks for a null value when the getter is called to then call a setter, or by using Groovy script as a default value (just set the attribute to script)

  • Transient attribute  in viewobject and entity object

    i added a transient attribute to an entity object . Then, for the view object based on that entity object, i added this transient attribute. The attribute name is Department Description. When i display the record(s) from this view object, everything is cool. But, when i try to create/insert a new record, i get error:
    JBO-27019: Get method for attribute "DepartmentDescription" could not be resolved. What is going on here and what do i need to change to create/insert a new entity row which has a transient attribute?
    As well as i added trasient attribute in view object also ....same erroe is comming ..................

    Hello Siva,
    have you already solved your problem?
    I have a very similar error.

  • Programmatic set attribute as transient or persistent in entity object

    Hi I am using adf bc / faces 11.1.1.2.0 and have a need to be able to have a entity object that can run on different versions of a database,
    which means that on certain versions of the database some of the columns will be there and not on the other versions.
    Is that possible ? In case the columns are not there, we should just return a dummy value ! It should be possible to update the columns
    in case they are marked as persistent,
    Regards,
    Jan

    Hi Jan
    I don't know if what am going to say actually makes sense but; what if some how in your SQL query you identify whether the column exists or not? I mean, your EO is going to be based with all possible columns but your VO will be in charge to fill the attributes according to whether they actually exists or not. Maybe if you can find something at SQL level that will allows you to do something like
    SELECT exists(myAttribute) ? myAttribute : "dummy" ...
    But I am not sure if that is possible to do in SQL.

  • Passing SQL Server identity attributes values into adf entity objects

    Hi all.
    I'm using Jdeveloper 10g for developing an ADF Swing application based on MS SQL Server DB.
    Does anyone know if it is possible to pass SQL Server identity attributes values into the correspondent attrributes of adf entity objects, like we do with Oracle DB Sequence.
    The problem is that i should somhow implement cascade deleting of detail view objects, so i should use the composition association. But since i cant fill the primary key attribute with appropriate value (that is actually a ms sql server db sequence value) i always get
    the following exception: oracle.jbo.InvalidOwnerException: JBO-25030 as i try to create a new pair of master/detail objects.
    Thanks in advance.
    Alex.

    The approach is good. but i still dont understand how i can address the sql server db sequence (identity field) programmatically...
    The code offered
    SequenceImpl sequence = new SequenceImpl("PRODUCTS_SEQ",getDBTransaction());
    setProdId(sequence.getSequenceNumber());
    generates something like this:
    select deq_name.nextval from dual
    but this syntax works for oracle only... and not for sql server...

  • Entity object attribute with a list of objects

    Does anyone know how one sets up an entity object that has an attribute with a list of objects as the type? (assuming that's supported)
    as in:
    CREATE TYPE phones AS VARRAY(10) OF varchar2(10);
    Create table suppliers (supcode number(5),
    Company varchar2(20),
    ph phones);
    The SOA Suite in jDeveloper (new Entity Object/attributes etc) has an ARRAY that can point to REF or OBJECT. Neither work. When I try to Create DB Object later from the Entity Object I've created I get an invalid type.

    What you suggested about "validation codes on the VO" is not written on the ADF Documentation.
    I try to blindly/strictly follow best practices (particularly on Validations, using Declartive and/or built in validators) on most ADF documentation and blogs but there are many scenarios on coding some large ADF projects that I think must veer away from the best practices stated on the documentation or maybe add new rules on the documentation depending on how complex an ADF project would be.
    I religiously followed best practices stated on the documentation to use Entity and Attribute Validators when performing validations. What I did was i had created lots of Custom Validators (by implementing JboVAlidatorInterface interface) for each of the attributes on an Entity Object that need validated. So those validator is valid only for one attribute, its not reusable. And those validation codes either have reference to a ViewObject or call some PL/SQL procedure. So at some point are codes became messy.
    Ultimately the whole project became harder to manage when the codes became large. Now I am trying to refactor the whole application by separating it into project/package and I am hoping to do it with little Re-coding as possible.
    Hope to get your opinion on this one.
    regards,
    Anton

  • Dirty check for transient attributes in view object

    Hi,
    I am using JDeveloper 11.1.1.4 and ADF BC in my project.
    In one of my view objects,I have a transient attribute added for some business logic.
    I am doing dirty check in my project as below.
    boolean dirty = false;
    boolean amDirty = false;
    // check application module
    ApplicationModule am =
    getBindingContainer().getDataControl().getApplicationModule();
    amDirty = am.getTransaction().isDirty();
    //Check if datacontrol is dirty
    BindingContext bctx =
    oracle.adf.controller.binding.BindingUtils.getBindingContext();
    dirty =
    bctx.findDataControlFrame(bctx.getCurrentDataControlFrame()).isTransactionDirty();
    return amDirty || dirty;
    My requirement is that,I dont want the dirty check to be applied on the transient attribute in the view object.
    Is there any way to achieve this.Please advice...
    Regards,
    Praveen

    Hi Frank,
    Thanks for the suggestion.
    I followed the link.But if a transient attribute is modified,then also ((ApplicationModule)getDataProvider()).getTransaction().isDirty() is returning true and the transaction is made dirty.
    I am setting a transient attribute like this getNwOperVOIter().getCurrentRow().setAttribute("AcctNoTrans")....when I am editing a row.
    Can I get explicit handle at viewobjectimpl for this transient attribute??

    Praveen
