JDeveloper - Project Mirgation

Hello all,
I have some trouble migrating a project created with an older version of JDeveloper to the latest version 10.3.2.0.xxx on my windows machine. The project was created with JDeveloper 9.xxx on a Linux box. It is till over there. While I fetched all files through CVS, no error occurred.
Afterwards I had to add some of the custom libraries to my JDeveloper, but that's fine.
The point I have trouble with, is, that the JSTL libraries which are very common to use, are not installed in JDeveloper. After a little while of research, I figured, that the files are in the root directory of JDeveloper in the jakarta package. They are even called from JDeveloper. The problem is, I am not able to add the tags to JDeveloper in the Component Pallet to enable using the components in a drag and drop way.
Maybe someone of you had a similar problem before and can help me a little.
Best regards,
Christoph

This is the list of origin->target JDeveloper versions for which we support and test migration:
http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/jdev/collateral/others/migration_matrix.html
To get from 9.0.X to 10.1.3.2, you need to do an interim migration step.

  • Can I use more than one database connections in a jdeveloper project?

    I use jdeveloper version 9.0.4.0 (build 1407),Can I use more than one database connections in one jdeveloper project?

    9.0.4 is a fairly old version, so you may only find a few people who know how it worked.
    Assuming you're using ADF BC, once known as BC4J, once know as JBO, in the project, and that the architecture hasn't changed much, then the answer is only 1 connection per project.
    Programmatically you're free to use as many connections via JEE as you see fit, but ADF BC is limited to one connection.

  • Multiple Web Services in one Jdeveloper project

    Hi all,
    I'm currently trying to implement a series of web services, all relating to one application. I'm using the top-down approach, where I generate the web service from a WSDL file, and add my implementation to the generated classes. The WSDL file imports all sorts of XML Schemas (xsd-files) and Jdeveloper correctly generates all the necessary java-classes for me. Lets call the first web service I create WS-1.
    This all works fine and I'm a happy panda. I can call the web service, it works, I can modif the wsdl and regenerate the web service to e.g. change the input etc. All this works.
    Just until the point where I want to create a second web service (lets call this WS-2). This new web service doesn't use all the XML Schemas that the first web service does, it is more simple with regards to in-/output. The problem arises when I modify WS-2 and Jdeveloper regenerates the Web service files (.java and the files in the WEB-INF/wsdl-directory). When I do this, it deletes the imported xsd-files that WS-1 uses (removes them from WEB-INF/wsdl).
    And when I regenerate WS-1 to get my xsd-files in again, then when I regenerate WS-2 it imports all the unnecessary xsd-files into the wsdl for WS-2.
    Something tells me, that there is a connection or shared library between all web services in one Jdeveloper project. That they all imports and uses the xsd-files in WEB-INF/wsdl.
    Is this true? Can't I have multiple web services (and wsdl-files) using different types (schema definitions) in the the same Jdeveloper project?
    One solution I can think of, is to have all my web services in different projects under the same application. But is this really necessary?
    I'm using Jdeveloper 10.1.3.3.0.

    Hi,
    pure from a coder instinct I think I would prefer them to be in separate projects for better reuse and clean separation. If I need project 1 to access aclass from Project 2, I can check the dependency check box in the project properties. Is there any business requirement that makes you think having all of these in a single project will help ?

    Btw.: I agree that JDeveloper shouldn't constraint developers from doing what they want and if this is a limitation the feel free to file a bug

    Same composite we were able to deploy successfully without any error, from Monday onward we are experiencing this issue.
    We checked in Installation Guide provided by oracle. Oracle has suggested few memory related changes in ant-sca-compile.xml file.
    Increasing Memory to avoid Compilation Errors
    To avoid out-of-memory errors during compilation of a SOA composite application, you need to
    increase the following memory settings.
    To increase memory settings:
    1. Open the ant-sca-compile.xml file in the SOA_HOME/bin directory.
    2. Under the scac element, increase the following memory settings.
    <jvmarg value="-Xms2048m"/>
    <jvmarg value="-Xmx2048m"/>
    <jvmarg value="-XX:PermSize=32m"/>
    <jvmarg value="-XX:MaxPermSize=256m"/>
    3. For Windows change the following memory settings to.
    <jvmarg value="-Xms1536m"/>
    <jvmarg value="-Xmx1536m"/>
    <jvmarg value="-XX:PermSize=32m"/>
    <jvmarg value="-XX:MaxPermSize=256m"/>
    We did those changes but still experiencing same error. I checked H:\AIASOAProject\AIAReceiptInterface\ReceiptListEbizProvider\SCA-INF\classes\scac.log ; file its showing Could not create the Java virtual machine.

    (1) This seems to severely limit the options to share such a JDeveloper project file between developers in a team (e.g. using Subversion), because they would need their Maven repository and their JDeveloper project to be in the same (relative) location. Is this intended? Are there any options to work around these limitations?
    (2) If a project evolves, and additional libraries need to be configured in a JDeveloper project, what would be the preferred approach to keep these in sync with Maven dependency configurations?

    Jan Vervecken

    Hi Jan,
    Yes, some of the current approach is not ideal.
    +"Maven's primary goal is to allow a developer to comprehend the complete state of a development effort in the shortest period of time."+ - By having the pom.xml define for the project, I get the ability to run site goals, junit tests and other maven reports - get a feel for the project state. Even with a very basic pom.xml file containing the groupId, ArtifactId, version, SVN repository definition and the release plugin you gain the ability to use "mvn release:clean release:prepare" to help with tagging the source in SVN. These represent progress as up to this point the team has not had access to this.
    +"Making the build process easy".+ - The approach does make the build part easier for JDeveloper 10.1.2. As a maven build, it is now possible to check the project into SVN and have it built by Bamboo, without having to include an installation of JDeveloper 10.1.2 (for library access) on the CI server.
    +"If I understand correctly, in your approach, you are trying to keep both pom.xml and JDeveloper project files up-to-date manually?"+ - The only reason for keeping the JPR in sync with the pom.xml file is to allow the developers to still make use of features such as selecting run from the right click menu. At present, I am still slowly getting up to speed on how JDeveloper works and interacts with OC4J. Ultimately, you would want a maven plugin that will deploy the packaged WAR or EAR to the OC4J stand-alone or remote instance. This plugin would probably wrap the commands that the IDE uses, e.g.
    If you right click on the deployment profile for a project (JDeveloper 10.1.2) and select the Platform > Standalone OC4J options, you find:
    Deploying Ear+
    ${java} ${jvm.max.heap.size} -jar ${admin.jar}
    ${oc4j.url} ${username} ${password}
    -deploy -file ${ear.file}
    -deploymentName ${j2ee.app.name}
    Binding Web Apps+
    ${java} -jar ${admin.jar}
    ${oc4j.url} ${username} ${password}
    -bindWebApp ${j2ee.app.name} ${j2ee.web.app.name}
    ${oc4j.web.site} ${j2ee.context.root}
    And for Platform > OracleAS Remote DCM:
    ${java} -Djava.protocol.handler.pkgs=HTTPClient
    -jar ${Oc4jDcmClient.jar}
    ${dcm.servlet.url} ${username} ${password}
    redeploy ${remote.oracle.home}
    ${ear.file} ${j2ee.app.name} ${oc4j.instance.name}
    With a maven plugin- wrapping the deployment (possible even to the embedded OC4J) you could then look at get away without maintaining the libraries in the JPR. The JPR the becomes the configuration file for the IDE interaction only without affecting the build. For debugging, you can deploy to a standalone instance and start it using:
    java -server -Xdebug -Xrunjdwp:transport=dt_socket,server=y,suspend=n,address=4000 -jar oc4j.jar
    Then connect to the port specified. The primary project I was working on was developed in Netbeans and deployed to SJSAS. I have since switch this project to working with JDeveloper 11.1.1 as the IDE and doing remote debugging from the IDE connecting to the SJSAS debug port.
    Note, that the maven plugin development for the managing of these aspects should be easier with JDeveloper 11.1.1 and the integrated WLS.
    Have you used this approach in a project that uses ADF Business Components? - Yes, I have used it on one of the smaller ADF projects that had already been produced by the team. This project has all the maven features and ability to deploy to the remotes AS via ant scripts. The approach worked in both the dev and test environments. However, for final deployment, I still used the deployment profile to be consistent with the rest of the team.
    Regards,
    Graeme.

  • Import jdeveloper project to workshop

    Is thwere a way to import jdeveloper project into oracle workshop
    taking into consideartion that i need to run on oc4j

    There is no special support for importing JDeveloper projects into Eclipse or Workshop, but you can always create a new project of the appropriate type and copy the source code over into the new project. Workshop has support for versions 10.1.3 and 10.1.3.1 of OC4J.

  • Impoting Jdeveloper project into Eclipse 4.7 juno

    can i impot Jdeveloper project into Eclipse 4.7 juno????please help me.

    You can manually configure a JDeveloper project to use in Eclipse. The process depends on the type of project and technologies being used.
    Is it an "EJB Project" and if so, are you using JPA? Or is it a "Web Project"? Are you using ADF?
    Eclipse and Oracle Enterprise Pack for Eclipse (OEPE) have corresponding project types that you can use to set up your Eclipse environment for the JDeveloper project. There are multiple way you could configure an Eclipse project with the source from your JDeveloper project. You could just create a new Eclipse project then copy your JDeveloper source files into the src folder of the new Eclipse project and "refresh" the project.
    If you are trying to maintain the same project structure and some level of interoperability, you can create an Eclipse project with the same folder structure as the existing project. For example, using OEPE and following the steps below would help to configure a JDeveloper Web Project that uses JSF as a "Dynamic Web Project" in Eclipse. Basically, you'll create a new project to overlay your existing project, modifying the default Eclipse project structure to map it to the underlying structure of the JDeveloper project. The process will read/import the existing source files and add Eclipse metadata to the project.
    - Copy your JDeveloper project to your Eclipse workspace or a location where you want to maintain the project as an Eclipse project.
    - With OEPE, create a new "Dynamic Web Project" and use the name/location of the JSF web project from JDev.
    - In the "New Dynamic Web Project" wizard,...
    - click "modify" to update the configuration and include the desired "JavaServer Faces" version, and project facets for other technologies such as JSTL and "Oracle ADF Web".
    - you can create an EAR project and select a configuration option to add your Dynamic Web Project to the EAR.
    - change the "Default output folder" from "build\classes" to "classes" which is what the default output directory is in JDev.
    - in the "Web Module" page of the wizard, change the "Content directory" field from 'WebContent' to 'public_html' to match the default value in JDeveloper.
    - I think there's an option to generate the web.xml deployment descriptor that is selected by default and you can override to so that it is not selected and the process will not overwrite your existing web.xml.
    After completing the remaining pages of the wizard, the process will generate the required Eclipse metadata to the project and will refresh the project so that it now contains all the src and web content files from the underlying sub folders.
    This is just a rough example and you may have to do some additional configurations for dependent libraries or hand edits of some descriptor files, etc.

    Hi,
    first recommendation is to not use Eclipse natively but use OEPE that ships with Eclispse Juno. This way you have the IDE prepared for ADF projects. However, still the JDeveloper workspace structure does not fit the Eclipse structure.

  • Audit and Standard Javadoc applied to all Jdeveloper project java classes

    Hi,
    I want to apply standard Javadoc to all the java classes I have written. Is there a quick way of doing it in 11.1.1.3
    I have already done the following but the code editor rules are not getting enforced.
    1) Go to 'Tools' and then choose 'Preferences
    2) Go to the 'Code Editor' and under it 'Java' and then 'Javadoc'
    3) Select all the tags like @author @version @param etc and modify the Tag properties to be required and then click OK
    4) Next I create a new Java class but the code editor rules are not enforced.
    Questions:
    a) How to enforce the code editor preferences?
    b) How to automatically generate the missing javadocs in the existing classes in Jdeveloper?
    c) How to audit and setup a coding standard, so that it's easier to monitor what everybody in the project does and adheres to the coding guidelines.
    Bottomline - Are these possible in JDeveloper 11.1.1.3
    Thanks

    Have a look at the JDeveloper code audit feature.
    Under tools->preferences->audit->profiles
    You can either modify or add a new profile and check the JavaDoc Comments rules.
    You can switch the Missing Comment rule to have a more serious severity.
    Then you can audit your file (or the complete project).
    In the audit window you'll see an option to automatically fix error that the Audit flagged - this can include adding the missing Javadoc.

  • Problems using CVS with Jdeveloper - Project

    I have Jdeveloper on Windows 2000 and CVS repository on unix.
    I am using wincvs.
    In the documentation it mentions that I have to create a new project on JDeveloper and then import that project in CVS.
    But if I already have files in CVS then how can I get that in JDeveloper ?
    When I do a CVS checkout I get the files on my local PC. However I get a message which says that project could not be checked out ..
    Now when I do a cvs update JDeveloper tries to update all the files ..
    Any suggestions ?

    Unfortunately there is no way to do this in 9.0.4. This has been fixed in the 10.1.3 preview release, in 9.0.4 you will need to create your session broker in code to work around the problem.
    If you require sessions.xml support for this in 9.0.4, please contact Oracle support.

  • Suggestion on source safe directories structures for JDeveloper project

    Hello,
    We created our VSS directories by mapping JDeveloper's structure, eg.
    +Workspace
    +Project
    +Sources
    +HTML Sources
    +Deployment
    By this way, people can get the latest - the whole workspace easily. But one thing seems problematic with the multi-user development environment is the .jpr file.
    The .jpr file stores the references to all of the items in the project. Pretty much very changes made to the project will change the .jpr. Developers need to working on the project simultaneously. That means the .jpr will be changed all the time. It's not possible for people keep checking out and in, and others waiting for them. Is there a smart way to control the .jpr in a team environment so that the .jpr will always be up to date?
    Thanks,
    kz

    Hi,
    One option that might make it easier to version control .jpr files is the "Scan Source Paths to Determine Project Contents". This makes your project "dynamic", i.e. it no longer needs to contain a list of all the files in the project - instead it just shows you all files under your Sourcepath / HTML root.
    There are some caveats with this option:
    1) It works best on a new project. If you want to use it on an existing project, it's best to remove all the files from the project first (otherwise, the list of files continues to be stored in the project file).
    2) It may not help you if you have certain types of object in your project (e.g. BC4J / EJB files), because these objects store a lot of file specific data in the .jpr file itself.
    3) It doesn't help at all when two developers concurrently change settings in the .jpr file, e.g. two developers use a different remote debug host / port etc.
    We're aware that there are a number of team development issues with project files, and are actively working to improve the situation in future releases.
    Thanks,
    Brian

  • JDeveloper project dependency

    I have noticed a bug in JDeveloper that is stopping me from creating a war with an ejb client jar file. Within the ejb project I have created a deployment profile for the client that includes only the shared classes such as interfaces and models. This successfully deploys to a jar. Within the war project I add a dependency on the ejb project client deployment jar file. The issue is the classes within the jar are not available within the classpath and the war will not compile.
    If I change the war project dependency to be at the project level of the ear I can compile the java code. In order to correct the war deployment to include the ejb client jar I remove the project dependencies from the WEB-INF/classes. I then add the ejb client jar within the profile dependencies. Unfortunately the ejb client jar is not included within the WEB-INF/lib directory of the war.
    Does anyone know how to correct this or is there a workaround?
    Regards
    Neil

    I worked this out. The ejb client jar must be included within the 'libraries and classpath' as well as the dependencies. This is different from the 10g JDeveloper where you did not need to add the jar within the 'libraries and classpath'.

    Hi,
    there must be more in the stack trace than just that. My impression is that it cannot connect to the database. Do you use JDBC URL or JDBC data sources? Also, your approach only make sense if you don't use ADF. If you use ADF then you could access the current AM to avoid the penalty of an extra database connection
