JDEVELOPER TP Reponse Time - extremely slow

I am new to Jdeveloper and my first install is TP 4 (4.11.1.1.0.0) and it is basically unusable. When I click on New Application it takes at least 3 minutes to bring up the New Application window. If I highlight the name it takes another 3 minutes to allow me to enter one character. I have a high powered windows XP box with 4 Gig of memory and the app is only using 180Meg.
All I did to install it was unzip the download and execute the jdeveloper.exe.
Thanks

Shay Shmeltzer blogged about making JDev faster sometime ago which you may find useful.
In addition I also blogged that McAfee's disk-hog, ah, I mean Virus-Scanner also kills JDeveloper performance thanks to McAfee's lousy JAR file scanning. I can confirm this is still an issue for McAfee with the latest release as we've hit it at our current client's site.
Both these articles are indexed at the Oracle Wiki.
Hope this helps.

  • Response time Extremely slow on MS Translator API

    Hi,
I am now using Translator API to translate input data from users in real time.
But I found that the response time from the API is sometimes extremely slow.
--- It takes 1 to 2 minute to translate only 5 to 6 characters and it certainly slow down my application
(it normally takes only a few seconds)
--- I am sure that I have enough quota.
I wonder if there is request limit in a minute and if so, how can I upgrade the limit so
I can keep my service work perfectly?
    Thanks

    Hi,
This is totally unsusual. For strings in the two to three thousands characters it should not take more than a few 100ms. Can you try again and tell us if you still see this behavior?
Our service is up and running (just go to bing.com/translator and you'll be able to test for yourself the speed of translation for a several hundreds characters sentence) so I'm not sure how to help you out here if it is still the case and your internet
    connection is working fine.

  • Forum load time extremely slow

    Hi,
One of my biggest concerns with the forum is that it takes really long time to load a web page!!! I visit various forums everyday, and even with a lot more ads and scripts and applets, they load much faster than this forum. It puzzles me what is so complex about this forum that it requires so much time to load a page. I've tried browsing here on Internet Explorer 6, Opera 9.62 and Google Chrome and it is slow on ALL of them! This is a serious concern, and should be taken care of ASAP.
Also, the graphical editor of posts is a little buggy on Opera, which i mainly use. So hopefully it can be taken care of in the future. and the addition of a 'Quick Reply' option like in other forums will be much appreciated.

  • Build/Complie times extremely slow Sun WorkShopTM 6 C++ Update 1

    Hi,
We've moved code from WIN32 (NT/2000) to Soalris 8. We are using Sun WorkShopTM 6 C++ Update 1 to build. The problem is that the same code base takes twice as long to build.
    The WIN2K box config:
    863 Mhz, 512MB, P-III
    Solaris 8:
    Processor: Netra t 1400/1405 (4 X UltraSPARC-II 440MHz)
    CPU Frequency: 4 x 440MHz
I looked at the various performance counters and figured that the process is CPU bound.
The compile flags that we are using:
    FW_CXXFLAGS = -g \
    -features=%all,no%iddollar,no%altspell \
    -xildoff \
    -i \
    -library=iostream,no%Cstd \
    -R. \
    -KPIC \
    -mt
    1. Is there a concept of pre-compiled headers?
    2. Anything we can do to speed up the compile?
    3. Product uses ORBIX2000, 2.0 - ORB.
    Thanks in advance

Is there a possibility of a memory crunch? How much RAM is on the
    machine?

    1. Is there a concept of pre-compiled headers? No, not at this time.
    2. Anything we can do to speed up the compile?A couple of possibilities if you have not tried them already. Are you
using parallel make? (dmake or GNU make w/-j flag) If you are CPU
bound, I assume you have already tried this.
You may want to upgrade to the 6.0 Update 2 compilers. There have
been a number of enhancements to compiler performance.

  • I have a 1st generation time capsule and an extreme b/g. Is the extreme slowing the network down

I have a 1st generation time capsule and an appe extreme b/g. Is the extreme slowing the network down? Should I dump it an get the new n version?

yes it is likely to be slowing down the network because you are using 802.11b/g
from what i recall with b/g a slow client can slow down the entire network to that clients speed.
this was the major improvement with 802.11n and Mimo. each client can be connected to the access point without affecting your speed to the rest of the network
its reccomended to get all new "N" equipment if you have the budget for it. some of those old airports and time capsules can still be worth something on amazon marketplace so you might be able to sell them
if you want to create / join / extend a netwowrk your going to probably need all "n" based equipment.
buy the new 4th generation time capsule or the new 5th generation airport they have better stronger radios
in the mean time configure your base station router to a high multicast rate, so it will prevent devices connecting to it at 1-2 mbps speeds and slowing down your network
if you have an apple care covered mac remember the airport / time capsule rule. all airports and time capsules purchased 2 years before you bought your mac to the 3 years of apple care covers them. if you do not have apple care then the standard warranty applies

my final cut is running extremely slow after having for 6 months.  I use external hard drives and save nothing on my computer.  it takes a long time to render now. do you think something is wrong with computer. took it to mac store but they fail to help me.  I have a 13 inch mac book pro 10.6.8 8gb 2.3 gfz intel core i5

What did Apple tell you about what they did (or did not) find here?
See if working on the main disk is any faster.
USB2 is glacial, as I/O interconnects go.  And USB2 disks have been known to fail, or sometimes to drop back to USB1 speeds, too.  FireWire 800 is substantially faster than USB2, but still not as fast as the internal drive connections can provide.
Put another way, start varying your configuration, and see which configuration changes (still) have the problem, and which don't.

  • Initial Time Machine Backup - Extremely Slow/Freeze

    Hello,
I recently switched my external HDDs and began utilizing a different HDD in conjunction with Time Machine. I have used this HDD in the past with Time Machine and never had a problem. The initial backup is proceeding at an extremely slow rate and often freezes - as of writing, it is currently standing at 125.3MB of 1.07TB - About 1,172 days. I have erased and reformatted the drive (Mac OS Extended (Journaled)), tested data transfer rates to it by transferring files myself (normal rate), repaired permissions, verified my disks, tried the initial backup while spotlight was off and have forced a spotlight re-index, allowing it to go to completion before attemtping a backup - however, no solution has thus far worked. I have not made any large changes to my computer since I switched the HDDs either.
Does anybody know what could be causing such a problem and how to fix this? Many thanks for any help,
    - Cptbigt

If you have more than one user account, these instructions must be carried out as an administrator.
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
    View ▹ Show Log List
    from the menu bar.
Enter the word "Starting" (without the quotes) in the String Matching text field. You should now see log messages with the words "Starting * backup," where * represents any of the words "automatic," "manual," or "standard." Note the timestamp of the last such message. Clear the text field and scroll back in the log to that time. Select the messages timestamped from then until the end of the backup, or the end of the log if that's not clear. Copy them (command-C) to the Clipboard. Paste (command-V) into a reply to this message.
If there are runs of repeated messages, post only one example of each. Don't post many repetitions of the same message.
When posting a log extract, be selective. Don't post more than is requested.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.

  • Time Capsule extremely slow recover

    Hi and tnxs for reading.
Since my iPhoto Library has been corrupted, I am trying to test some old versions/backup by restoring them from my Time Capsule (2TB last version on the Apple Store), but unfortunately the process is extremely slow. My iPhoto Library is 35GB and the required time for the transfer is about 5 days!!
I did some tests: no prob with the WiFi: if I try to manually transfer a 1GB file on WiFi in the finder from my Mac to the TC disk it takes a few minutes. However, the iPhoto Library recover from TC is taking ages... any idea??

The iphoto library is a huge number of small files.. not one big file.
Wireless is extremely inefficient at handling the data stream plus all the back and forth file info required .. please use ethernet.
Simply plug in ethernet.. make sure you have a connection then turn wireless off.. If it stops the file transfer I am very sorry. You will need to start over most likely.
IPv6 can also help but you need it set correctly to link local only .. auto is not good enough.

  • Illustrator CS4 is extremely slow, color wheel rotating all the time

Illustrator CS4 (14.0.0) is running extremely slow on my MacBook Pro. The color wheel is rotating and keeps me waiting almost after every click, although everything is working fine, no crashes or whatsoever.
I have no other application running at the same time, I chose "performance" over battery lifetime in the system preferences, deleted the "Adobe Illustrator CS4 Settings" in the preferences folder for a fresh start, work only from my local HD, have only 60 fonts installed - but no improvement.
Even if I have a new document with only one object in it, this goes very slow.
Does anyone have an idea what I could do - that would be appreciated very much.
    MacBook Pro 15" 2010, 4GB, GeForce 9400M+9600M GT, HD 500GB (7200rpm)

That are 2 very good leads, but unfortunately I already tested that: I uninstalled all fonts, so there are only system fonts left - no improvement. I also started the admin account without any start elements (pressing "shift" during boot) - no improvement. The processes (all of them) except Illustrator are all at 0%, some can reach 0,7% - only Illustrator itself is at 100,4% for these few seconds. There is no difference between the admin account and the second user account regarding the Activity Monitor.
But the solution must be somewhere in the difeerence between the two accounts - user preferences, application support files, ???

    Do you have current backups?
Those symptoms could indicate a failing Hard drive. If it dies, all your documents go with it unless you have Backups.
I have had very good luck with physical and battery problem diagnosis at the Genius Bar. Those guys put their hands (and their ears) to these machines, all day every day, and they know immediately what all those sounds mean.

  • Time Machine is extremely slow in Yosemite

Hello all. Anyone else having extreme slowness with backups to Time Machine in OS X Yosemite? I started a backup after I did the upgrade (and changed a few things like app installs) and it's backed up about 5.6MB of data in 30 minutes. It still says "Calculating time remaining..." in system preferences for Time Machine.
Is anyone else seeing this slowness when making backups?
    Thanks

  • Extremely slow time machine backup

    Hi,
I tried my first backup on snow leopard and I found it extremely slow compared to leopard. What used to take 20 minutes in leopard now takes 3 to 4 hours.
This was my first backup on snow leopard.
Is there any known issue for slow TM backup? If not, this must be a bug in this new OS.
If there is any assistance needed (i.e. logs etc) do let me know.
    Thanks,
    Apurva

Hi every one had the same problem for a while and had tried everything but discovered a solution that has helped me out and hope that it helps others as hours have been burnt trying to get this running.
    so here we go.
Restart your Mac with the boot up media/ CD/ DVD
    open disk utility
    repair back up drive
    repair local disk
    repair permission local disk
    boot back in to SL
go to your back up drive
    open Backups.backupdb folder
find your back up folder (it will be named the same as your machine)
locate your current backup temporary file (this is not a folder but a file that is used to store and create your latest backup of your system it will look different so don't remove the wrong one)
    move it to the trash
empty the trash (this will take a while depending on the size of temp file)
once completed run time machine again.
this time time machine will run a lot faster in determining the backup required, the the actual back up process will be a lot quicker once the first back up is created.
I went from waiting over 24 hours for a backup which ended up either failing or crashing my system to a 1st time complete back up in less than an hour and the incremental backups are much quicker.
for some reason the temp file gets corrupted no idea why but this has seemed to fix it for me.
I am backing up over 150 GB on my local disk and about 350GB on another external disk drive to my back up drive.
Drives is connected by Firewire 800
let me know if I can b of further assistance.
    ""Cheers

  • Time Machine Backup EXTREMELY SLOW

I've recently noticed that my Time Machine backups from my Mid 2009 iMac 3.06 to a WD 1tb MYBook take an incredibly long time.  For example, an hourly backup where nothing has really changed (350k according to a TM log) takes over 30 minutes.  I've been working with applecare and they can't pin it down.  I've tried the following and nothing has changed-
    - creating a back to a brand new drive
    - disabling or deleting every startup program and launch agent
    - Created another new user and backed up from there
    - Reinstalled OSX to repair Time Machine
    - Created a new boot partition on my HD and installed OSX
    - I used the same backup disc on my laptop and it worked fine
The strange thing is hat everything seems to work fine.  I ran a verify on my disks.  I Boot my original OS disc in and ran the hardware test.  NOthing finds a problem.  I tried writing large files to and from my HD to see if that could be the problem.  MY HD reads and writes quickly (2.5gb copies to/from an external drive in less than 2 minutes).
The only thing that has changed in the past 6 month s is that I updated my ram from 4 to 8GB with Kingston ram.  Could it be a bad piece of RAM or my logic board?  Everything else seems to be working fine.
    Anybody experience anything likes this???

    kieranroy wrote:
Hey - apologize if this has been covered, but despite much searching, I haven't found a solution to my problem...
After a hard drive crash, I restored using a Time Machine backup. I figured it would be a good idea to start a fresh Time Machine backup going forward.
Does that mean you erased or reformatted the drive?
If you deleted some or all of the backups via the Finder, cancel the backup, reformat the drive, and start over.
Using a LaCie 500GB Firewire 800 drive (formatted MacOS Extended Journaled), after one hour, only 5GB has been backed up. As my MacBook Pro has 165GB of data, at this rate, it will take almost two days.
Does that hour include the "Preparing" phase? If so, nothing at all was backed-up during that time, so the actual rate is probably much faster.
Also note that the first items backed-up contain a very large number of mostly small files; there are things that must be done for each item, so that sort of backup will be longer than saving a few large files that total the same amount of space. The speed of the backup will increase and decrease during the backup; initial estimates are almost always quite high.
I've removed the Time Machine drive from Spotlight indexing. I have ensured Norton AntiVirus is not running. What else can I do to speed this up? It seems extremely slow by all comparisons I've read.
First, be sure the *Partition Map Scheme* of the LaCie is correct. Use the procedure in item #C1 of the Time Machine - Troubleshooting *User Tip* at the top of this forum.
Also see item #D2 of the same post (you've already done the first two things). Don't try the +*Repair Disk+* while the backup is running, or if you erased or reformatted it before starting this backup.

  • Nano first sync'ed extremely slow, now crashes all the time

My Nano worked fine until a few days ago. It then suddenly started to sync extremely slow. Because of this, I canceled the sync, but the Nano stayed in Sync-Mode anyway. So I reseted it. That seems to have messed it up completely: now it crashes every time I connect it to my Macbook. When I try it, the Apple logo appears shortly, then the connect screen, after which it crashes again... Also when I try to play anything, the Nano just crashes...
Resetting the iPod (Center+Menu) didn't work... Is there anything else I can do?
Btw, my other iPods (1G Nano + Touch) seem to work fine. So iTunes probably is not the problem...

Problem solved: I had to put the Nano into hard disk mode, so that the software doesn't get booted once it connect it to a Mac. That way it can't crash. Then I could reset it and now it works again.
Btw, Apple Service didn't want to tell me how to do it. Luckily Google did:
