JDIC with NetBeans: Anyone have any experience?

I am trying to use SimpleBrowser.java itself and I am running into problems trying to install the package org.jdesktop.jdic.* within my NetBeans framework alongside this following error:
C:\Documents and Settings\me\classes\GUI\src\org\src\incubator\fileutil\src\mac_os_x\classes\org\jdesktop\jdic\fileutil\MacOSXNativeFileUtil.java:55: not a statement

                                                                                                                                         ^I have no experience with JDIC before, furthermore, there is no "easy button" on http://java.net, so could someone hold my hand and guide me through the dense forest of confusion regarding JDIC and how to use SimpleBrowser.java so it will work within NetBeans?
Thanx
Phil

FYI for those interested in JDIC within NetBeans:
Installing JDIC using NetBeans:
1) Download latest release (min recommendation: 0.9.1) from https://jdic.dev.java.net/servlets/ProjectDocumentList?folderID=3606&expandFolder=3606&folderID=3606
2) In NetBeans use CVS to embed within NetBeans:
     a) Go to CVS -> Checkout
     b) CVS Root will be: :pserver:[email protected]:/cvs
     c) No password required
     d) Module to Checkout: jdic
3) Go to project, right click onto Properties and click "OK" (that will cause an important update)
4) Using the example SimpleBrowser.java:
     a) import org.jdesktop.jdic.Globals.JDICGlobals
     b) import com.ppowell.tools.SystemTools.SystemFunctionality
     c) Include this static block within the script (remember that this is a static block that is not meant to be within any method!):
          static /** Go to <a href="http://forums.java.net/jive/thread.jspa?forumID=72&threadID=15129&messageID=113723">here</a> for more info **/ {
                  BrowserEngineManager engineManager = BrowserEngineManager.instance();
                  engineManager.setActiveEngine(BrowserEngineManager.IE);
     This static block will autoset IE as the default browser engine.  Currently as of version 0.9.1 no other browser is supported within org.jdesktop.jdic.browser.* packaged classes
     d) Have SimpleBrowser implement RemoteURLExtractable as a custom wrapper
        e) Include this block within your main or initializing method:
                try {
                    SystemFunctionality.add("java.library.path", JDICGlobals.JDIC_EXECUTABLE_FILE_PATH, "jdic");
                } catch (Exception e) {
                    e.printStackTrace();
     f) compile and build using NetBeans
5) Make sure that you add as library the JAR file "Win32.jar" within the accessible libraries within the project that has the classes such as SimpleBrowser.java
     a) Go to Libraries
     b) right click to "Add new JAR File"
     c) Find the JAR file "Win32.jar" within ../dist and click OK
6) Make sure your .dll files are found (custom distribution will have them in "../java_library_path_requirements")
7) ISEmbed.exe is distribution in the archive (.zip or .tar) file.  That file must be copied into whatever path is defined as your classpathMessage was edited by:

    Do I need to run and anti virus program with MAC OSX Lion? Have heard different opinions!
    You will continue to hear different opinions here, where thoughts range everywhere between "anti-virus software is the evil spawn of Satan" to "anyone not running anti-virus software is a fool."
    Truth is, this is still a very personal decision on a Mac. Depending on circumstances, it is still very easily possible to stay safe without using anti-virus software, but circumstances and personal preferences vary widely. Besides which, anti-virus software cannot even remotely provide you a guarantee of protection!
    To learn how to stay safe (with or without anti-virus software), and how to decide whether to use anti-virus software, see my Mac Malware Guide.

    Always backup your important data before upgrading to a new Mac OS X.
    Lion doesn't erase the drive but better to be safe than sorry.
    And run Disk Utility  (Applications/Utilities). Verify and if necessary repair the startup disk before upgrading.

    I am trying open 'mv' files.  I found a program called Flip4mac MWV Player Pro.  Does anyone have experience with this or is there a different way to open these type of files?

    It works quite well, but is only useful for playing .wmv files such as those made on older PCs. MPlayer 1.0 rc2 is a free utility that should also play .wmv files.

    Hi,
    I have the Norco DS-500 and the FirmTek SeriTek/5PM. In my use, the SeriTek/5PM is quieter and provides a much cooler environment for the hard disks. Occasionally, I will hear the Norco rattle while the SeriTek/5PM is built like a tank and never has this issue.
    The SeriTek/5PM is the only 5PM on the market with user selectable fan controls. In addition, the advanced cooling system allows it to keep the warmest running hard disks cool. I would much rather have the SeriTek/5PM than any other 4 or 5-bay port multiplier enclosure on the market. It is quiet, cool and built to last.

  • TS3048 My Bluetooth keyboard is working partially. Mainly the Q W E R T and caps lock keys are not. Anyone have any experience with this ??

    Hi people. I am getting increasingly frustrated with this. I do not understand why only a certain few keys in a certain spot have stopped working.
    Anyone out there encountered similar problems to mine ??

    Hello danieloysius,
    I would be concerned too some of the keys on my keyboard were not working.  I found an article that can assist with troubleshooting issues with your keyboard.  I recommend following the steps under the section titled, "Some keys don't work as expected" in the following article:

  • Does anyone have any experience of using an Aperture library on a Drobo or Promise Pegasus? If so any problems or tips?

    My intention is to place my Aperture library a Thunderbolt Raid device and access via my Macbook Pro SSD Retina. The thinking is that I would have the capability of having a large library and wouldn't run out of space for some time - I understand that the library would also need to be backed up.
    If anyone could share their experience positive or negative I'd be very grateful.

    I have Aperture installed on a three month old Drobo 5D ( containing five WD 3 TB RED NAS hard drives) attached via Thunderbolt to my Macbook Pro with Retina Display, and Aperture is beautifully responsive with this setup.  I do have a 60 GB mSATA card installed in the Drobo 5D, but I find it makes a real difference only when you are trying to acess a lot of small files, e.g. Aperture thumbnails.  The Drobo 5D and Aperture make a good combination.
    With a folder containning a mix of large and small size files, I find that it often looks like it is going to take a long time to copy the files with the Drobo 5D, and then after a short period of time the Drobo 5D really takes off and copies files at a very high rate of speed.  In other words, don't form too hasty an opinion of how fast a group of files is going to be copied.  Also, measured speeds with the Drobo 5D are not as impressive as you might expect, but the real-world performance is quite remarkable and fully in line with my expectations.

  • Anyone have any experience using this Geil Ultra Platinum PC4000/DDR500

    When I purchased  my motherboard i did so from Mwave as an bundle package, AMD 64 3000+/MSI Neo4 NF4/SLi/ and basically I choose the only ram they offered cause I wanted them to test everything  out before sending it off to me and yeah I was trying to save some money too, stupid me....now I'm buying the memmory I should have and I have 2 sticks I paid for unecessarily and Ill be lucky to recoupe 75% of what I paid for them, the ram I bought with this bundle package was just the plain vanilla Crucial pc3200/ddr400, cl3....actually I was surprized because I was able to get the fsb to 220mhz before it satrted logging errors, this effectively clocked my cpu from stock 1808mhz to 1998mhz, anyway after a suggestion from one of the Msi forum mods here, I went shopping for some pc4000, in a couple of days I will get it, who of you out there run the same ram in a similar system? and what performance( i.e. 260mhz fsb) from your experience can I expect to get from it , my rigs specs are in my sig btw and thanks for any input

    The AMD64 memory controller seems to like Samsung TCCD / TCCx and some do not like Hynix (which is used in the GeIL Ultra Platinum PC4000).  Winbond generally needs higher vdimm voltage which the Neo boards are not good at (mine is max 2.85v).

  • Can't present through a Projector with lion - anyone have any suggestions or experienced the same issue?

    Ever since i hae installed lion, we cannot project through a pretty new Epson projector.  I have downloaded all the latest drivers from Epson and that does not work but it seems it would just recognize the projector as another screen as it normally does and that Lion would not have an affect on that.
    Any thoughts or solutions?
    Thank you!

    Yes, I had this same problem.
    I downloaded version 2.77 of easymp display and 1.50 of usb display from the epson website.
    It did not work at first but then I plugged and unplugged the usb cable and all of a sudden it worked fine. I have a 2009 13 inch macbook with an epson 825+ projector.

  • Does anyone have any experience, knowledge, suggestions or warning even, about CleanMyMac2 by MacPaw?  Thanks!

    Saw an ad for this app on line, and don't want to download without getting some input from the community.
    Here's a portion of what the ad says:
    All junk files, little and big, add up to slow down your Mac. CleanMyMac 2 removes only the files that are safe to delete.
    It knows what to clean and where to clean, saving you time and frustration. With Automatic Cleanup, you can clean
    your Mac in just two clicks: Click once to scan, and once to remove. Mac cleaning has never been easier.
    Any thoughts are appreciated.

    How to maintain a Mac
    1. Make two or more backups of all your files, keeping at least one off site at all times in case of disaster. One backup is not enough to be safe. Don’t back up your backups; all should be made directly from the original data. Don’t rely completely on any single backup method, such as Time Machine. If you get an indication that a backup has failed, don't ignore it.
    2. Keep your software up to date. In the App Store or Software Update preference pane (depending on the OS version), you can configure automatic notifications of updates to OS X and other Mac App Store products. Some third-party applications from other sources have a similar feature, if you don’t mind letting them phone home. Otherwise you have to check yourself on a regular basis.
    Keeping up to date is especially important for complex software that modifies the operating system, such as device drivers. Before installing any Apple update, you must check that all such modifications that you use are compatible. Incompatibility with third-party software is by far the most common cause of trouble with system updates.
    3. Don't install crapware, such as “themes,” "haxies," “add-ons,” “toolbars,” “enhancers," “optimizers,” “accelerators,” "boosters," “extenders,” “cleaners,” "doctors," "tune-ups," “defragmenters,” “firewalls,” "barriers," “guardians,” “defenders,” “protectors,” most “plugins,” commercial "virus scanners,” "disk tools," or "utilities." With very few exceptions, such stuff is useless or worse than useless. Above all, avoid any software that purports to change the look and feel of the user interface.
    It's not much of an exaggeration to say that the whole "utility" software industry for the Mac is a fraud on consumers. The most extreme examples are the "CleanMyMac," "TuneUpMyMac," and “MacKeeper” scams, but there are many others.
    As a rule, you should avoid software that changes the way other software works. Plugins for Photoshop and similar programs are an obvious exception to this rule. Safari extensions, and perhaps the equivalent for other web browsers, are a partial exception. Most are safe, and they're easy to get rid of if they don't work. Some may cause the browser to crash or otherwise malfunction. Some are malicious. Use with caution, and install only well-known extensions from relatively trustworthy sources, such as the Safari Extensions Gallery.
    The only software you should install is that which directly enables you to do whatever you bought the computer to do. For example, a word processor is useful for writing. A video editor is useful for making movies. A game is useful for having fun. But a "cache cleaner" isn't useful for anything. You didn't buy the computer to clean caches.
    Never install any third-party software unless you know how to uninstall it. Otherwise you may create problems that are very hard to solve. Do not rely on "utilities" such as "AppCleaner" and the like that purport to remove software.
    4. Don't install bad, conflicting, or unnecessary fonts. Whenever you install new fonts, use the validation feature of the built-in Font Book application to make sure the fonts aren't defective and don't conflict with each other or with others that you already have. See the built-in help and this support article for instructions. Deactivate or remove fonts that you don't really need to speed up application launching.
    5. Avoid malware. Malware is malicious software that circulates on the Internet. This kind of attack on OS X was once so rare that it was hardly a concern, but malware is now increasingly common, and increasingly dangerous.
    There is some built-in protection against malware, but you can’t rely on it—the attackers are always at least one day ahead of the defense. You can’t rely on third-party protection either. What you can rely on is common-sense awareness—not paranoia, which only makes you more vulnerable.
    Never install software from an untrustworthy or unknown source. If in doubt, do some research. Any website that prompts you to install a “codec” or “plugin” that comes from the same site, or an unknown site, is untrustworthy. Software with a corporate brand, such as Adobe Flash Player, must come directly from the developer's website. No intermediary is acceptable, and don’t trust links unless you know how to parse them. Any file that is automatically downloaded from the web, without your having requested it, should go straight into the Trash. A web page that tells you that your computer has a “virus,” or that anything else is wrong with it, is a scam.
    In OS X 10.7.5 or later, downloaded applications and Installer packages that have not been digitally signed by a developer registered with Apple are blocked from loading by default. The block can be overridden, but think carefully before you do so.
    Because of recurring security issues in Java, it’s best to disable it in your web browsers, if it’s installed. Few websites have Java content nowadays, so you won’t be missing much. This action is mandatory if you’re running any version of OS X older than 10.6.8 with the latest Java update. Note: Java has nothing to do with JavaScript, despite the similar names. Don't install Java unless you're sure you need it. Most people don't.
    6. Don't fill up your disk/SSD. A common mistake is adding more and more large files to your home folder until you start to get warnings that you're out of space, which may be followed in short order by a startup failure. This is more prone to happen on the newer Macs that come with an internal SSD instead of the traditional hard drive. The drive can be very nearly full before you become aware of the problem.
    While it's not true that you should or must keep any particular percentage of space free, you should monitor your storage use and make sure you're not in immediate danger of using it up. According to Apple documentation, you need at least 9 GB of free space on the startup volume for normal operation.
    If storage space is running low, use a tool such as OmniDiskSweeper to explore the volume and find out what's taking up the most space. Move seldom-used large files to secondary storage.
    7. Relax, don’t do it. Besides the above, no routine maintenance is necessary or beneficial for the vast majority of users; specifically not “cleaning caches,” “zapping the PRAM,” "resetting the SMC," “rebuilding the directory,” "defragmenting the drive," “running periodic scripts,” “dumping logs,” "deleting temp files," “scanning for viruses,” "purging memory," "checking for bad blocks," "testing the hardware," or “repairing permissions.” Such measures are either completely pointless or are useful only for solving problems, not for prevention.
    To use a Mac effectively, you have to free yourself from the Windows mindset that every computer needs regular downtime maintenance such as "defragging" and "registry cleaning." Those concepts do not apply to the Mac platform.
    A well-designed computing device is not something you should have to think about much. It should be an almost transparent medium through which you communicate, work, and play. If you want a machine that needs a lot of attention, use a PC.
    The very height of futility is running an expensive third-party application called “Disk Warrior” when nothing is wrong, or even when something is wrong and you have backups, which you must have. Disk Warrior is a data-salvage tool, not a maintenance tool, and you will never need it if your backups are adequate. Don’t waste money on it or anything like it.

  • Anyone have any trouble getting a Promise Pegasus R4 drive to install/optimize?

    I just purchased an R4 Pegasus w/ Thunderbolt cable to go with my brand new iMac 27".
    The Pegasus paperwork says it can take up to 10-hours for the R4 to fully optimize/synchronize.
    Well, the blue "LED Drive Activity" light has been flashing for well over 24 hours.
    Instructions read "don't unplug the unit" during optimization process...
    Anyone have any experience with the R4 Pegasus (with Thunderbolt).

    I just connected a Pegasus R6 for the first time.  It's been running 8 hours now (with a little whirring sound) and I am willing to wait for it to optimize/synchronize but I am concerned because the blue switch is not flashing as advertised--it has been steady since I plugged it in (it actually started that way--I did not press it to start it).  There is no icon on my screen.  I would appreciate any observations/advice.  Thank you!

    I keep saying this over and over, in the hope that people who do a search will find it.  Apple cannot possibly test for or be reponsible for the bazillion combinations of adapter, cables, and TV's out there.  The only monitors that are 100% guaranteed to work with the MacBook Pro are the Cinema Displays and Thunderbolt Displays, because, they're made by Apple.  They're expensive, but they work perfectly.
    My guess is that you bought a cheap MDP to HDMI cable, or have a defective one.  From my reading of these boards over the past few months, cheap cables have a high failure rate.  And the regular priced ones have only a slightly less of one.  Try a new one.  Make sure you do not damage the Thunderbolt port.
