JDK 64k byte code limitation for methods

Concerning the JDK 64k byte code limitation for methods (actually 65535 bytes): While the Java compiler doesnt care for that problem, the Java VM does. Hence, an violation of the 64k limit is dedected at run time, too late, of cource. Is it possible to detect the violation at (or immetiately after) compile time? Are there any tools that support the perception of the violations as early as possible?

Thanks to the authors of the answers. I agree to you as far as hand-written code is concerned. However, we generate our java classes, thousands of files, each java class with a lot of methods. We do have rules to keep things as smal as possible. Nevertheless, some methods become very large. Thus the problem is to detect such methods. Once the methods are known, we are able to modify our generator. We implemented a small program that looks for large methods in terms of source code, but there is just a week correlation between source code and byte code. Hence, again the question: Is there a tool that supports the detection of methods larger than 64k byte code before installation?

    Hi Friends
While Configuring EP system with SOLMAN 7.1 SP12 it is giving below message in self Diagnosis Phase.
    1. Solman system is already having ISAGENT version 8 and 9 installed (but Managed system is having 8)
    2. I have followed the automatic Process as below
    ==========================================
Automated Installation of the Introscope Agent via SMD
The Solution Manager provides an application that performs the setup of the Introscope
byte code agent for Java automatically. This section explains the steps to run the setup.
Before you can run the Introscope agent setup, the setup wizard for the managed system
    must have been executed.
    1.
    2.
    3.
    4. Launch the Introscope Setup application: SAP Solution Manager Configuration 
Managed Systems Configuration  Step 7 Configure Automatically  Automatic
Activity “Byte Code Adapter Installation”  “Open Java URL” (only available in edit
mode). Your screen will look similar to the image below:
    5. Check the Enterprise Manager Settings at the top of the screen. These are the
connection parameters that will be used by the agent to connect to the Enterprise
    Manager.
    6. In the pane Introscope Agent Setttings, select the system that you want to instrument
with the agent. Check “select all” and click “Retrieve Current Settings”. This will display
the current status of the agent setup.
    7. To initially setup or update the agents, click Setup Introscope Agent …. This will open
the setup dialog as shown below. Select the desired agent version (by default only one
available) and choose the profile. Next, check the desired instrumentation areas, and,
in the case of AIX, review the AIX settings to match your environment (J9 or classic
    mode).
    8. Finally, hit Apply to perform the necessary changes in the agent configuration. Agent
config files will be adapted and the Java VM parameters will be set as required for the
    managed system.

  • Code of a method longer than 65536 bytes

I just moved my web application (jsp/servlets, no EJB) from apache tomcat to Oracle 9iAs Container for J2EE (OC4J). Everything is working fine except one jsp file, called "EditTmpForm.jsp". Basically, this jsp file is used to update existing records, so it needs to first retrieve the data from the database by using the primary keys. I used a java bean to handle the JDBC/SQL code and plugged that bean into the jsp file. The jsp works fine on tomcat, but when I run it on OC4J, I got the following error:
    500 Internal Server Error
    Error parsing JSP page /pirs/jsp/EditTmpForm.jsp
Error creating jsp-page instance: java.lang.ClassFormatError: jspPage19jsp_EditTmpForm.jsp (code of a method longer than 65536 bytes)
Why does it give me this error? 65536 bytes is only 64k, which can be stored in a floppy disk.
Thank you very much if you can give me some idea why this occurs.
    James

I looked at the code after a jsp compiled to a servlet. The
jspService method of "EditTmpForm.jsp" is about 801 KB. But for another jsp "EditOperation.jsp", the  jspService method is about 236 KB.
Both are much greater than 64 K, but why it runs okay for "EditOperation.jsp" but gives me error for "EditTmpForm.jsp"?
Furthermore, since the HTML form is long, so the HTML code itself is bigger than 64 K, how can you prevent your _jspService method so that is is shorter than 64K?
    Thanks for your help!

  • Solution for Visual composer error: 32k span and 64k byte limit

    Dear friends,
I am getting the error in visual composer 32k span and 64k byte limit since last half year,
some time error will get resolved by adding layer in to model OR adding some table and form to model OR reduce the animation effect OR even by doing tab strip view for layer model, doing nested ivew.
but this solution not usefull for every time.
what should we do for this error(32k span and 64k byte limit),
is it solved by updating EP version or by EP java stack or any other updates which will solve the This VC error.
64k error i am getting is:

    Hi,
I think it's better to post this question into the Visual Composer forum. Anyway, the 32k/64k bug is solved with the flex2 server which is already released.
Also have a look into the [Wiki page|https://wiki.sdn.sap.com/wiki/display/VC/64Kbytelimit].
    Hope that helps!

  • Can we invoke a method using BCEL(byte code engineering library)

Hi i am new in Java bcel,So can anyone guide me in this problem.
I am searching for some techniques in BCEL to invoke a method of some class just like we use to invoke methods using Java Reflection.I have also tried a Java Assembler named "Jasmin" that used to interact with Operand Stack,Local variable array & Constant Pool etc so i guess this is the same containers with which our BCEL also interact with so then i am wondering why not then there exists a way through which we can invoke a method using BCEL IF this will happen in any case then kindly point it out some direction of help.
    thanks in advance

    856989 wrote:
I think i have clearly mentioned that "Tell me any way in doing this invocation in BCEL not in Reflection."
Why i not want to use reflection because it have "invocation overhead"Wrong.
If I dynamically load a class and reference it via a interface there is absolutely no difference in that and if I referenced the class statically and used it via an interface. The load and use process is exactly the same.
    And the first uses "reflection".
If you use a proxy interface via something like java.lang.reflect.Method
then of course there is some overhead because there is in fact more classes involved. Just as if you had any other layer in any other code.
And even so unless you have actually profiled the application and found an actual bottleneck (and not just a measured impact) then even looking at it is a waste of time.
If it was me I would be far more concerned that inserting byte codes was correct for all cases.

  • Code of a method longer than 65535 bytes...

I am working with Tomcat32. I made a taglibrary(that includes just one tag, for testing) and implemented the tag in java (a simple one, it's just writing a text). I put that tag into a JSP page and when I go to that page, the tag displays a text on the screen. Everything works just fine, but if I have a greater number of tags inside the JSP(about 170), then I get an error message. Tomcat makes the .java -file, compiles it to the .class file, and then just before displaying the text, I get the following err.msg: "Code of a method longer than 65535 bytes..." Thanks for any help I get ! Bye, Nico

The code of a method cannot longer than 65535 bytes, but note that in
    http://java.sun.com/docs/books/vmspec/2nd-edition/html/ClassFile.doc.html
the attribute length field is specified as four bytes:
    u4 attribute_length;
You can demonstrate this for yourself with a program I recently posted here
    http://forum.java.sun.com/thread.jspa?threadID=603213
    by changing the num_calls from 5000 to 50000 .
    The error will look like:
Exception in thread "main" java.lang.ClassFormatError: a1000000000 (Code of a me
    thod longer than 65535 bytes)
    at java.lang.ClassLoader.defineClass0(Native Method)
    at java.lang.ClassLoader.defineClass(ClassLoader.java:539)
    at java.lang.ClassLoader.defineClass(ClassLoader.java:448)
    at maxperm_cltest$MyLoader.doClass(maxperm_cltest.java:303)
    at maxperm_cltest.main(maxperm_cltest.java:282)
I note that repeatedly calling a no-arg void method is only four bytes per call. Your example, compiled by Sun's javac, would only consume about 50 bytes for the code and 100 bytes in the class file overall.

    Hello Steve,
Firstly, you cannot install Outlook with Exchange because they share certain dll files.
About the EMS question, I suggest we try rebuilding the powershell virtual directory. If it still does not work, check the application log for more referernce.

    Hi,
From your description, I know you get an issue with IE 10 in SharePoint 2013 when you use SharePoint REST API to retrieve data from SharePoint list.
I am not quite sure what cause your issue. Could you provide your code, so I could test it in my environment and troubleshoot for you.
In addition, you could test your issue in another computer or another version of IE.

The above code will produce a "error saving Pixel Bender Byte Code file" error when exporting for flash player in Pixel Bender Toolkit 2.5.449694.
"dst = (sampleNearest(src, outCoord()));" works fine. And anything like "float4 a= float4(b);" will give same error.

Thank you for the error report.  I'll put it into our bug database.  We're bottling things up for the current version.  Gven the workaround, it is unlikely we'll be addressing this bug soon.  Please accept my apologies for the annoyance this will cause.
In your second example, float4 a = float4(b), does it return an error if b is only a float4 or regardless of what b is?  If b is a scalar float, for example, is the conversion performed correctly? If so, this could be an error that only crops up when using constructor/conversion syntax when the thing being converted is already the correct type.
    Thanks,
    Chuck.

  • Increase UDP sending size over 64k bytes and get error -113,sending buffer not enough

    Dear all,
I have a case that I must send a data over 64k bytes in a socket with UDP . I got a error-113 shows "A message sent on a datagram socket was larger than the internal message buffer or some other network limit, or the buffer used to receive a datagram was smaller than the datagram itself.".I searched for this issue and got the closest answer as below:
    http://digital.ni.com/public.nsf/allkb/D5AC7E8AE545322D8625730100604F2D?OpenDocument
It said I have to change buffer size with Wsock.dll. I used the same mathod to increaes the send buffer to 131072 bytes by choice optionname to so_sndbuf (x1001) and give it value with 131072 and it worked fine without error. However I still got an error 113 while sending data with " UDP Write.vi ". It seems UDP write.vi reset the buffer size? Are there any other things cause the error?
I attached example code. In UDP Sender.vi you can see I change send buffer size to 131072 and send date included a 65536 bytes data. There is also a UDP receiver.vi and there is some missing VI which you can get from the LINK. But it's not necessary.

The header for a UDP packet includes a 16 bit field that defines the size of the UDP message (HEADER AND DATA)
16 bits limits you to a total size of 65635 bytes, minus the header sizes; a minimum of 20 bytes are required to define an IP packet and 8 bytes for UDP leaving an effective data payload of 65507
     bytes.

You have to remove few components from your model to decrease the compiler generated LOC.
Check the following link for detailed solution:
    https://websmp130.sap-ag.de/sap(bD1lbiZjPTAwMQ==)/bc/bsp/spn/sapnotes/index2.htm?numm=936390
    Taken from SAP Notes:
    <i>Solution
    Doing the following may help:
1.Divide problematic iViews into a number of nested iViews.
2.Optimize each model to reduce the number of elements that it
      contains:
a.Reduce the number of signals by merging signals of the same name.
b.When your application updates forms with read-only fields, use
expression boxes and a data store instead of signals.
c.Minimize the use of animations in your models, including form
        sliding and chart animation effects
d.Use a data store to store variables, instead of invisible forms.
To display messages, use a simple text rather than a static dynamic
        expression.
3.For on-the-spot, temporary workarounds, you can try dragging an empty
layer onto the Design board. This sometimes solves the problem ad
hoc, but is not recommended as a best practice.
