Jerky Background Textures

Many of my textures jerk when played as LT backgrounds. I choose a Texture movie and create a new track. It appears below the line in the timeline (but the same fault occurs if it is above). I play the texture in the timeline once through (it goes slowly as it is rendered, I suppose) and then on the second pass at full speed. The background does not progress smoothley. This can be seen even more clearly if I step through the timeline frame by frame. Some parts of the image move, for example, more in one frame, less in the next, less in the next, more in the next. This is particularly well seen using the texture Geometrics > Cubes. The square outlines jerk.
Other testures that I have tried which show this include Space > Womb, Timewarp, Rocket trail, Pharos, Nebula, NDE. Smoke > Cirrus, Contrail. Geometrics > Collograph, Cubes. (I have not tested all textures.) Medley > Mirage is OK.
The jerking is also seen in the movie rendered by LT and when it is in FCE's timeline. I can get Womb to look smooth by speeding it up (at least it looks smooth to me).
I have run:
HD > Library > Application Support > LiveType > Textures > Space > Womb
in QT Player 7.1.1 at Fit to Screen and it plays smoothly.
The small movie at the top of LT's Media Browser (which demos testures) is always smooth. My FCE Easy Setup is DV PAL 48KHz Anamorphic and my video in FCE is Widescreen (16:9).
I have set my LT Project Properties in LT to each of the two settings mentioned at the end and third from the end (SteveKir & Tom) of:
http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=3009909#3009909
and there is no difference.
Could the problem be caused by the fact that the texture movies are essentially designed for 4:3 and NTSC?
Any ideas?

If you're not lengthening or shortening the textures and you see this problem I suspect it's a PAL vs. NTSC problem as you suggest. I haven't tested it myself.

  • How to Make a Background Texture Like This

    Can you please take a look at following image and let me know how I can create a background texture (pattern) like this in Adobe illustrator cs6?
    I already tried this using Texture -> Grain -> Artistic -> Film Grain  but the result is a little different as:
    Can you you please let me know how to do that? Thanks

    Actually you are close, it needs something like the light factory in photoshop to generate depth.
    The easiest way is to go to your local office supply store, by a sample pack of paper then scan a sheet into your computer, instant texture. You can then overlay any color you choose, depending on the original color of the paper though.

  • Offset filter to make background textures on IOS

    If PS touch had a way to easily create repeating background textures similar to how one would do it with PS for desktops (filter>offset>wrap, then blend or clone stamp tool the edges) I think this app would be worth it's weight in gold.

    Hi Thesmokemonster,
    You should create an idea thread for this feature request and describe why you think this functionality would be useful for yourself and others. Do you do a lot of creation of seemless backgrounds for webpages? Adobe uses the ideas threads for feature requests, having one idea per thread and have others vote on the idea if they like it.

  • How to create a background textures

    Hello,
    Are there classes in any package to create colored textures for background swing components ?
    If so, thanks to point me to URLs or samples.

    The basic packages for drawing 2D graphics are found in "java.awt.*", and for your specific needs you need the various implementations of the Paint interface, ie GradientPaint, TexturePaint, etc.
    See: http://java.sun.com/javase/6/docs/api/java/awt/Paint.html
    To paint various graphics you need a JPanel and then you need to override the "paintComponent(Graphics g)" method and do your own custom painting.

  • Where are you getting backgrounds, textures, and templates for CS6?

    I'm just curious about good web sites to download royalty free backgrounds, templates, textures, etc. for Photoshop.  I'm willing to pay a small annual fee to join the site, but of course free is always good too.  I'd rather avoid places like iStock- I'm looking more for a site that has Photoshop or other design applications in mind.
    I've found a couple of sites through Google, but they seem old and not updated as often (they still mention compatibility with CS4 and 5).
    So what are your favorite sites?
    Thanks in advance!

    Thanks, but I'm thinking more along the lines of something like cgtextures.com.  Great site with lots of stuff but the vast majority are photos.  I'd also like templates and non-photo images.
    For example, the other day I had to create a "Wanted: Dead or Alive" poster for someone.  I found some good tutorial instructions on how to do it (I'm a photographer, not a graphics artist, so I need all the help I can get when it comes to graphics).  One of the steps had me downloading some textures for the poster's background that no longer existed on the Internet, so I had to improvise a little.
    I'd love to find a template for something like that that already has all the important elements in it.  While I love learning new stuff, sometimes I have a deadline and it just has to get done.  Open template, pop in picture, do some adjustments, etc.... done.
    So I'm looking for templates along the lines of Photobacks, for example.
    And I'm looking for non-photo graphics like you'd find on, for example, a band or movie poster.
    Again, not being a graphics artist, I'm not going to go and recreate all that stuff.  I have no problem paying a small fee... I just don't want to pay $30 for a star burst or a bolt of lightning that will end of being one little tiny element in a bigger work.

  • How do I overlay to get background texture without changing color?

    I am using old wrinkled paper as my background and trying to get the texture to show through my black text.The black text just sits there over top of the paper and does not look like an authentic old letter.
    If I use overlay it gives me the background effect but changes the colour of the text to brown/orange. With multiply it doesn't do anything.
    I am using CS2
    Thx.

    Thanks for the tips, I duplicated the text layers and rasterized them, cut out a duplicated textured background with a quick select, inversed the layer, desaturated and adjusted the exposure to darken until it was as close to black as possible while keeping the detail.
    When I clicked the background layer back on the text and graphics were a tiny bit faded and textured to near perfection.
    Thanks!!!

  • How can I use a photo as a background-texture?

    I´d like to import a photo (paper- or canvas-structure for an example) as a default background for all my pages (chapter-page, regular-page etc.) in my book-project.
    Is this possible? If yes: How?

    I would make a IBA template with the photo you want on each page type (chapter, text, ect).  save it as a template. then use that to create the project.

  • How to change texture backgrounds in Keynote text box

    I want to know if its possible to change the texture background image of a text box, keeping the background textured but in a different color.
    Sequence:
    Create a text box
    Add text
    In the inspector select "image fill"
    The result is a textured background in a particular color.
    Thinking I might be able to replace the image with another textured image but of a different color I click on "Choose" and a dialog opens that is located at the "pictures" folder in the home folder.
    This makes sense but I wonder if there is a group of textured images somewhere to use as backgrounds?
    And if so where are they located?
    I've searched around and can't find same.
    Perhaps the textured background is unique to the theme.
    Thanks

    Most of the textures are unique to the theme BUT try this:
    1. Put a chart on your slide
    2. Click on the Chart Colors button in the Chart Inspector
    3. See if any of the chart options match what you're looking for and hit Apply All in the chart colors window
    4. Click once on one of the bars in the chart to select it
    5. Choose Copy Style from the format menu
    6. Click on your text box and choose Paste Style from the format menu
    7. Go to the Graphic Inspector and change the fill type from Image Fill to Tinted Image fill
    8. Play around with the color/transparency settings for the Tinted image function by clicking on the box that looks like it's sliced in half diagonally.
    no idea if that's what you're looking for, but you can come up with some fun fills I think.

  • Creating a texture for a rounded window

    Hi.
    I'm creating a simple gui on a game framework based on lwjgl and I have a problem.
    Almost every window has a solid black texture as a background. I came up with a idea to make corners rounded. At the beginning I created gif picture of a rounded square and used it as a background texture. But it wasn't a good idea, because the corners had different sizes depends on windows sizes (and how much texture was stretched). I've decided that I have to create a texture dynamically every time a window is created.
    public void makeBackground() {
            // the texture size must be multiply of 2
            int tWidth = 2;
            while (tWidth < getWidth()) {
                tWidth *= 2;
            int tHeight = 2;
            while (tHeight < getHeight()) {
                tHeight *= 2;
            Texture t = new Texture(getWidth(), getHeight()); // new texture is created with width and height same as the window size
            int px, py, ox, oy; // some variables
            final int pw = getWidth(),  ph = getHeight(),  hww = tWidth; // as above
            ByteBuffer bb = t.getData(); // blank texture is converted to a byte buffer
            Utils.startStoper(); // start timer (for a benchmark)
            try {
                for (int p = 0;; p++) {
                    px = p % hww; // get the X of the pixel
                    py = p / hww; // get the Y of the pixel
                    ox = ROUND_ANGLE - Math.min(px + 1, pw - px + 1); //  ox = <0, 32> if near corners
                    oy = ROUND_ANGLE - Math.min(py + 1, ph - py + 1); //  as above
                    bb.put((byte) 0); // r = 0
                    bb.put((byte) 0); // g = 0
                    bb.put((byte) 0); // b = 0
                    if (ox > 0 && oy > 0) {  // if near corners
                        double hypot = Math.hypot(ox, oy);
                        if (hypot > ROUND_ANGLE) { // if outside the corner
                            bb.put((byte) 0); // apha = 0
                        } else if (hypot > ROUND_ANGLE - 1) { // if on the corner edge
                            bb.put((byte) Math.round(
                                    (ROUND_ANGLE - hypot) * 200));
                        } else {
                            bb.put((byte) 200);  // if inside the corner (200 is a max value cause the whole window is a bit transparent)
                    } else {
                        bb.put((byte) 200); // inside the window
            } catch (BufferOverflowException ex) {
            Utils.stopStoper();  // stop timer
            t.setData(bb);   // set data for a texture
            super.setImage(t);  // set texture as a background
        }And here we have a problem. The whole method takes about 70ms for a window 200x200.
    I can do it in another way: create a pictures of a rounded corner and a black box. The box would be the window inside and the corner would loaded 4 times each time rotated. Only the box would be stretched then. But I would have to override all methods of a window (setX, setY, setXY, some more).
    Any ideas?
    Thanks.

    Hi Tom,
    I haven't used lwjgl, so hope the following helps:
    1- What does it matter if it takes 70ms. Your windows will be created once. At that point juste create the texture for that window and store it until you destroy the window. The penalty hit is 70ms but only at the initialization.
    2- You are drawing a pixel at a time for everything. Why don't you calculate the area of the corners and only draw the corners a pixel at a time. For the rest, draw some filled polygons.
    3- The java Graphics object has method fill methode that can take any Shape object. Why don't you use that?
    I would use a combination of 3 and 1.
    Hope that helps.

  • Background Master Not Showing In PDF

    I have a 90 page ebook I've design in InDesign. I'm self taught and new(ish) to InDesign, so please bear with me.
    My client needs the book for print and as an Interactive PDF. So, I've designed the file for print and am converting it to RGB when exporting it for web.
    Regardless of if I export the file for print or web, RGB or CMYK almost all of the pages are missing the background. The strange this is I'm using Masters for the background and some pages show up properly while most don't even though the same Master is applied.The Master has a transparency (opacity) on it, but I've also tried removing this and exporting the file without it and still have the same problem.
    Any help with this is MUCH appreciated.
    Here you will see how Page 1 is exporting properly with a background texture and opacity overlay:
    Here you will see how Page 2 is exporting with no background image even though the very same Master is applied to it.

    Awesome you're so quick! Thanks! I'm probably just being a picky designer, but check out the screen shot from mine and yours. I am look at it in Adobe Acrobat Pro. It looks a little thicker and more rugged to me. Not smooth and crisp.
    Or you could open my file and open yours from the link above and compare.
