JFrame setting inner size?

Hello,
I've a simple program which opens a JFrame with a JPanel inside it.
I've set the layout to null and manually placed the JPanel with 0,0,600,400 as the bounds.
The JFrame size is set to 600,500
The problem: The JFrame has the correct size, but I want the size of the inside of the JFrame to be 600*500 instead of everything like title bar included, what's the best way to automatically do this?
My sample program:
import java.awt.Color;
import javax.swing.JFrame;
import javax.swing.JPanel;
public class Problem {
    public static void main(String[] args) {
        aGUI gui = new aGUI();
        gui.setDefaultCloseOperation(3);
        gui.setSize(600, 500);
        gui.setVisible(true);
class aGUI extends JFrame {
    public aGUI() {
        super("My example...");
        setLayout(null);
        JPanel p = new JPanel();
        p.setBounds(0, 0, 600, 400);
        p.setBackground(Color.red);
        add(p);
}When you run it, and make the frame bigger, you'll notice that some of the red is hidden behind the frame...

But in my habit, if you specify the size of the panel inside JFrame, how do you expect that'll be resized as the frame get maximized!!!

  • How to set Minimum size of JFrame?

    Hi,
    I want to set minimum size of my JFrame. How can i set it?
    I want to maintain a minimum size while resizing the JFrame. The user should not resize beyond the minimum size of JFrame.
    Any body knows solution, please post it.
    Thanks in Advance.

    One posible solution is to add a ComponentListener to the
    JFrame that implements ... (struggles to remember) ...
    componentResized().
    Inside componentResized(), check the size of your JFrame,
    and if it is smaller than your preferred minimal dimension,
    resize it up to your minimum.
    // in the constructor, perhaps, or initialization routine
    addComponentListener(
      newComponentAdapter()
        public void componentMoved(ComponentEvent e)
            Dimension size = e.getComponent().getSize();
            size.width = Math.max(size.width, myMinimalWidth);
            size.height = Math.max(size.height, myMinimalHeight);
            e.getComponent.setSize(size);
      }); Pity there's no setMinimumSize() like the JComponent class.
    Best of luck !

  • How to set the size and position of JFrame

    hey all,
    i have a frame and i devide the frame into three panels, i want to make the top panel the lergest and make it square. and the rest two panels in small and in the bottom of the frame.
    could you please help me to set the size and position of the jpanel
    Thanks

    If u want the bottom 2 panels to be on the same level, u can try setting ur content pane to use the BorderLayout and the adding the 3 panels to it with BorderLayout.NORTH(for the TOP panel), BorderLayout.EAST(RIGHT panel) and BorderLayout.WEST(for LEFT panel).
    Don't know if this is what ur looking for, maybe u could describe more on ur layout with a sample image or something?

  • JFrame menu bar size

    Hi, I am displaying a BufferedImage inside of a JFrame. I'd like to be able to call setSize() for the frame such that the image aspect ratio is preserved. The problem is that the size of the menu bar gets figured into the frame. I want to do something like myFrame.setSize(image.getWidth(), image.getHeight() + menuBarHeight ). That possible?
    tia

    indeed...
          * Sets the size of this frame such that the inner content pane is the
          * specified size.  This attempts to take the frame border insets and
          * menubar height into account.  <br />
          * <br />
          * For example:  A typical JFrame on Windows has a 23 pixel high
          * titlebar, a 23 pixel high menubar (if visible) and 4 pixel thick
          * border on the other 3 sides.  So setting an inner size of 500 x 400
          * would set the actual frame's size to 508 x 450 (or 508 x 427 if no
          * menubar is set).
          * @param  dim  the size
          * @see  #setInnerSize(int, int)
         public static void setInnerSize(JFrame frame, Dimension dim) {
              JMenuBar menubar = frame.getJMenuBar();
              int mbh = (menubar != null ? menubar.getSize().height : 0);
              Insets insets = frame.getInsets();
              dim.width += insets.left + insets.right;
              dim.height += insets.top + insets.bottom + mbh;
              frame.setSize(dim);
         }

  • JLabel: how to set maximum size in layout?

    I have a BorderLayout that i want to show a JLabel in NORTH. I use HTML in the label message text with one line being centered with <center>. If the overall text of the label is long/big enough, i.e. subsequent text results in line breaks, the cenetered line is cenetered correctly.
    however, if the subsequent text is just small, all lines are left justified/adjusted. i guess, the JLabel dimension is not maximized to the maximum available spave in the NORTH area of BorderLayout.
    I tried adding the JLabel directly or within a JPanel (also with BorderLayout, then with add(label, BorderLayout.CENTER)), also first set the size of the dialog, added all components and just added the text to the label at the last position. doesn't help.

    Tip: putting a border on a JComponent like JLabel helps you see how its parent container is sizing it. I don't know what HTML mark-up you are using, but is the centering necessary?

    import javax.swing.*;

            String text = "Example text";
            Border b = BorderFactory.createLineBorder(Color.BLUE);
            JLabel label0 = new JLabel(text, SwingConstants.CENTER);
            label0.setBorder(b);
            JLabel label1 = new JLabel(text);
            label1.setBorder(b);
            cp.add(label0, BorderLayout.NORTH);
            cp.add(label1, BorderLayout.SOUTH);

  • Set font size based on component size

    Hi everybody,
    This is kind of a duplicate, kind of new, because my original post is buried and I figured out a more helpful and general way to ask this question. Does anyone know if there is a way to set the size of a string as large as possible on a component, but still be able to have the whole string visible, if you're using a font other than default?
    For example:
    public static void main( String args[] ){
    try {
              JFrame frame = new JFrame( "Title" );
              frame.setDefaultCloseOperation( JFrame.EXIT_ON_CLOSE );
              int guiWidth = width / 2;
              int guiHeight = height / 2;
              frame.setSize( guiWidth, guiHeight );
              Container pane = frame.getContentPane();
              // Create main label
              String labelString = "Test";
              JLabel label = new JLabel( labelString );
              label.setBackground( new Color( 179, 0, 0 ) );
              label.setForeground( new Color( 235, 191, 16 ) );
              label.setHorizontalAlignment( CENTER );
              label.setOpaque( true );
              label.setFont( new Font( Old English Text MT, 0, 48 ) );
              pane.add( label, BorderLayout.NORTH );
              frame.setLocationRelativeTo( null );
              frame.setVisible( true );
    } catch( Exception e) {
    e.printStackTrace();
         }As you can see, right now the font needs to be hard coded. I'd like it to be dynamic, based on the size of the screen the user has.
    Sorry if the partial double post annoys anybody; I figured it would be less annoying than resurrecting my old post.
    Any help on this would be great, and thank you!

  • Setting the size of a JComponent which is not currently shown

    Hi,
    I got a problem to set the size of a maybe JButton, before the button is displayed on screen.
    Assume i got a button without any text.
    Then the button length and height is 0 before the button
    is displayed.
    But i don't want to set the width and height of the
    button dynamically in the paint method for performance
    reason.
    I got only the trick to set a JButton with like this
    JButton b = new JButton("                            ");But this is not nice.
    I found no method in a JComponent to set the
    size of a component static in the constructor.
    The usage of setPrefferedSize() etc. don't work
    until the component is not displayed.
    So is there a way to compute the size of a Component
    before displaying?
    regards
    Olek

    It seems that there is no way to calculate the size via legacy methods.as already mentioned, it has a preferredSize and all you need do is something like this
    import javax.swing.*;
    import java.awt.*;
    class Testing
      public void buildGUI()
        JFrame f = new JFrame();
        f.getContentPane().add(getPanel("Hello"),BorderLayout.NORTH);

        JPanel p = new JPanel(new FlowLayout(FlowLayout.LEFT));
        JButton btn = new JButton(buttonText);
        Dimension d = btn.getPreferredSize();
        JLabel label = new JLabel("w = "+d.width+", h = "+d.height);

  • HELP !!! How can I set the size of each component separately

    Please tell me, when adding components (a mix of
    labels , buttons etc.) on a container (swing), how can I set the size
    of each component separately.
    for example:
    the code here has a mix of button and a grid that is actually another JPanel. Its a part of a bigger
    program. When running the grid is cut (not seen in its full size).
    So, please try to anser also about the specific acse of frame contining another frame in it , and the interior should be right sized.
    The relevant part of the code:

    public Reversi() {

    setDefaultCloseOperation(EXIT_ON_CLOSE);
    Grid g = new Grid(); // the grid was built at another part..

    f.setSize(new Dimension(300, 300));
    f.setDefaultCloseOperation(EXIT_ON_CLOSE);
    Container c = f.getContentPane();
    c.add(g,BorderLayout.NORTH );
    c.add(b = new JButton("Hola"), BorderLayout.CENTER);
    //f.pack();
    f.show();

    BorderLayout chooses the sizes of each of the components added to it. Choose a different layout manager (or set the placement/size manually with a 'null' layout)

  • Set maximum size in Text Form Field Options for a field in bi publisher RTF

    Hi All,
    How to set maximum size in Text Form Field Options for a field in bi publisher RTF.
    I have a RTF whch is having a field in that i need to add some validation condition but after adding certain condition in Add help text tab ,it is not accepting after certain length, how i can increase the length to unlimited,please help me on this
    Thnaks

    Form fields have some restrictions if your are using version lower than 11g.
    They can accommodate only 393 chars. You can add the text in both status bar and help key, which can in total consume 393 chars.
    If your code logic is more than that, it can be split into multiple form fields as Avinash suggested or you can use sub template logic and handle coding over there. Again in sub template code can be within/outside form fields.
    So there is no option for user to increase the size of form field.

  • How do you set the size / bounds of a waveform chart at run time?

    I have a plot area that I would like to fill with as many waveform charts as the user specifies (at run time). The "bounds" property is read only and I haven't noticed an additional "size" property for a waveform chart as there is for a button. Is there a way to set the size of a waveform chart at run time, and if not, why not? (Labview 6.1)

    Look at it a little more carefully, I suspect that your assumption is only half wrong. The property does only resize the plot area--LV resizes the frame to fit the resized plot on it's own.
    You'll need to bear this in mind when you're figuring-out what size to set the property to.

  • How to set the size for height of iView tray?

    Hi,
    I have created a ABAP webdynpro component and integrated this comp with iView. Then i integrated iView into Page in portal. That is working fine.
    But the size of tray/window which is displayed in the page is very small.
    How to increase the height of that Tray/window/iView containing my component?

    Hi,
    By changing the maximum automatic height and Minimum automatic height property of the iview you can set the size for height of your iview.
    to do this follow the setps:
    goto content administrator -> portal content -> your folder where you created your iview or directly to your iview -> right click -> open -> object,
    and now in property category choose appearance-Size from the drop down menu and set the above properties to your required height.
    if you want the end user to modify this property set the property to read/write .

  • Export in iPhoto offers a "Custom" setting for size. The default is 1000. 1000 what? Pixels, centimeters, MB's?

    Export in iPhoto offers a "Custom" setting for size.
    1000 is the default, but I don't know what 1000 refers to.
    Pixels, centimeters, MB's?
    I want to make the photo an 1 inch x 1 inch.
    Do I go up or down from the 1000?
    Thanks

    Pixels.
    For a 1" x 1" photo first crop the photo square.  Then export  with Kind = Current with JPEF Quality = Maximum and Size = Full size.
    Then when you go to print the photo select a 1" x 1" print size.  This will squeeze all available pixels in each dimension into the 1" dimension giving you the highest DPI resolution available from your image file.
