Jinitiator

I have a problem executing my forms. When I run the form and the browser tries to open the applet, it says that i have to install Jinitiator.
I install it succesfully but when i try to run the form again, it ask me to install it again and again. I don't know if this problem is because of the Operating System (windows XP) or the Internet Explorer version. The curious thing is that this problem doesn't occur in a windows 2000 PC. What should I do to solve this????

Hi,
the problem is that the JInitiator release you install seems not to be the version as expected in the formsweb.cfg file
jinit_download_page=/forms90/jinitiator/us/jinit_download.htm
# Parameter related to the version of JInitiator
jinit_classid=clsid:CAFECAFE-0013-0001-0013-ABCDEFABCDEF
# Parameter related to the version of JInitiator
jinit_exename=jinit.exe#Version=1,3,1,13
# Parameter related to the version of JInitiator
jinit_mimetype=application/x-jinit-applet;version=1.3.1.13
Check the settings above in the formsweb.cfg file you are using.
The go to
C:\Program Files\Oracle
Check the version of the most recent JInitaitor entry
Open
C:\Program Files\Oracle\JInitiator <version>\doc\jinit-version.ini
And check if the jinit_classid attribute value is identical to the one in the formsweb.cfg file

Keep in mind that to run a form from the forms builder (including test form) you must start the OC4J instance.

  • Jinitiator 1.1.7.27 problem with Pentium 4 class Intel Processors

If you intend on using this version of jinitiator on a Pentium 4 processor you will need to obtain a compatible version of symcjit.dll from Oracle. This file will need to be copied to the c:\Program Files\Oracle\jinitiator 1.1.7.27 Export directory.

  • Launching from desktop shortcuts results in shared JInitiator sessions?

    Hello,
I've been looking into how best to give users a route into my Forms 10gR2 application, and had set up a desktop shortcut. This is just a URL to an intermediate htm file, which then uses window.open() Javascript to run the URL for the application itself in a stripped-down browser window. I've turned off the Internet Explorer option 'Reuse windows for launching shortcuts', so a new IE window is always opened rather than use an existing one.
That all works fine in principal. I've noticed, though, that if a browser is already open, then clicking on the shortcut will open a new browser window (good) but that is still part of the existing browser process. This means that if I use the desktop shortcut twice, to start two separate sessions of my application, they are in different windows but sharing the same browser process - and the same JInitiator (I only see one instance of the JInitiator console, with outputs from the two sessions.) That scenario often causes the newer application session to hang terminally before login.
The problem doesn't occur if I manually force starting of a new IE instance to run my second application session. It definitely seems to be a problem with running two Forms sessions in one IE instance - I read on another post there was a known bug on this in Forms 10g904, I'd have thought this would be fixed by now..?
Has anyone else had similar problems? Or experience of using desktop shortcuts to start a Forms app?
    Cheers,
    James

I haven't done much with JPI, apart from testing it locally on my development box. I've successfully lobbied our DBA in support of creating an alternate JPI config on our test server, to evaluate its effect on an app currently under development, but I've yet to ask that he actually create that config.
My main reason for wanting JDK 1.4 or better, is to gain support for regular expressions. I'm running JPI 1.3.1_16, so I haven't had a chance to observe the behavior you're describing with JPI 1.5. The Java Plug-In Control Panel provides allows me to choose which JRE it employs -- does JPI 1.5 no longer support this? As for the sticky-cursor issue, I am not familiar with it -- I guess I'll have to research that a bit!
I'll be working with JPI more, over the coming weeks/months, and will be certain to report back with the results of my testing.
    Later,

  • Two versions of JInitiator on one computer?

Is it possible to run two different versions of JInitiator on the same pc? In testing, it appears that the most recently installed version take precedence over any other installed version.

You can use both versions but should use a different profile for each one (location where Firefox stores user data such as bookmarks).
The beta version should by default be installed in a different location than the release version, but to ensure this is the case you can choose the Custom option when installing Firefox and specify where you want it installed.
Next you need to create a new profile folder for the beta version, for details of how to do that see the [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Creating_a_new_Firefox_profile_on_Windows Creating a new Firefox profile on Windows]. Once you have created a new profile, you can create shortcuts that open the correct profile, for details see [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Shortcut_to_a_specific_profile Shortcut to a specific profile].
Finally you can arrange for Firefox to synchronize the bookmarks and passwords used by the 2 versions. You can do this by using Firefox Sync. The Firefox 4 beta will have it built in, but for Firefox 3.6.10 you can install the [https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/10868/ Firefox Sync] add-on. For details on using Firefox Sync see [[what is Firefox Sync]].

  • Windows Vista - "JInitiator" Vs "Sun JRE"

    Hi folks
we are using Oracle 10g AS. For the client end, we were using Oracle JInitiator 1.3.1.22 without any issues for the client OS Windows 2000, XP.
When the same application was accessed from Vista with JInitiator 1.3.1.22 - IE 7 got closed automatically. Then problem was overcomed when IE 7 replaced with Mozilla Firefox 2.0.0.1 or higher. But, when we installed Java standard edition J2SE JRE for running other Java based applications, then this application is not working with firefox because of the JRE installed.
Latercase, we have configured the Oracle 10g AS for running the application with J2SE JRE at client system. Then it was possible that other Java applications as well as our application can be accessed with J2SE JRE with IE 7 in client system (vista OS), for few weeks only. Now, in the same system, when we access the application with J2SE JRE, it takes 3 mins open a form from the main screen.
But if we remove J2SE JRE and install JInitiator 1.3.1.22 and connect the application with Mozilla Firefox, the application works fine and opens the screen in 3-5 secs.
    Summary:
    1) Is it possible to use both JInitiator & J2SE JRE together in Vista for running Java based applications & Oracle 10g Applications?
    2) Why is the difference, when the same application opened with JInitiator takes 3-5 secs to open a form, but J2SE JRE takes 3 mins for the same action?
    Please help.

  • Unable to get Windows User Name using Oracle Forms 6i, Jinitiator 1.3.1.17

    Hi,
Requirement: Get Windows User Name using Oracle Web Forms 6i.
Tools Using: Windows NT, Oracle web forms 6i, Oracle 10g DB.
Description: I am using GetClientInfo JBean from otn.oracle.com, which gets windows user name, IP address and machine name. The demo I got from oracle web site uses Jinitiator version 1.1.7.18. While we are using the latest version Jinitiator 1.3.1.17. Due to this reason, I am unable to use Javakey which comes with older version but doesn't come with newer version, that's why I can't create the new JavaBean Java identity (PJC).
Please advise what to do. All environment variables are set everything is done, this is the only thing bothering me.
I went through the article 202768.1 from metalink, but on step 5, it gives an error keytool error: java.lang.Exception: Input not an X.509 Certificate.
Also, please let me know if there is any other workaround for this requirement.
    Thanks & Best Regards,
    Mo

    Hi,
Thanks for your kind reply. Actually there was a problem in creating a certificate, now it is okay with the same method. Certificate got imported on client and everything is ready.
Now, the problem is when I try to set Bean Area Implementation Class property with oracle.forms.demos.GetClientInfo, it gives an error FRM-13008 Cannot find JavaBean with name 'oracle.forms.demos.GetClientInfo'.
I went through the articles 1072329.6, 196824.1, and set ClassPath and Path variables with proper values. Also, I have copied jar file and signature file in forms60/java folder. I don't see any problems. Please let me know what I am doing wrong. My limitation is that I have to do all this in forms6i.
I searched forums on metalink and found out that someone installed Patch 15, and everything went okay for him. Do you think I should install Patch 15? if YES, how will I do it, I mean should I first uninstall my forms and then install patch15 or install the patch on my forms?
Thanks so much for your help.
    Thanks & Best Regards,

Hi everyone, I'm having a problem with jinitiator 1.3.1.26 on Windows 7 64-bit. I install jinitiator without problems but every time that I want to open my application the browser (IE8 or firefox 3.5) hangs and close with an error. Any idea?
I tried to use compatibility mode (XP with SP3) on firefox.exe but this don't resolve the problem.
    Can you help me please?

    Hi Mark,
I've downloaded jre-6u17-windows-i586-s (latest version) and install it without problems, but when I try to run my application browser hangs again. Then I uninstall jinitiator and jvm still in my machine, but when I try to run the application browser needs jinitiator.
How do you resolve this problem? Is there any special configuration?
Sorry if i have any error in my English.

  • Jinitiator 1.3.1.2.6 on win 7 64 and win xp (different file.encoding)

    Hello,
our customer has moved from windows XP to Windows 7 and he uses Jinitiator 1.3.1.2.6...
In some "Forms" I have implemented a PJC to save datas from clob to local file system..
    But there is a problem....
If I run the same application with Windows XP I get file.encoding=Cp1250 which is ok....
If I run the same application with Windows 7 (64) I get file.encoding=CP1252 and here is the problem...
Is there any way to run Jinitiator (or set up file.encoding to/with) Cp1250?
Maybe is this a local problem with windows?
    thank you..

First, I will start by saying that JInitiator was not intended to run on Win7, especially 64bit. So, it may be time to think about moving to the Java Plugin. Preferably one which is certified with your Forms version.
To your issue, I suspect you need to change the "Region and Language" settings on the client machine. This can be found on the Control Panel. If that doesn't help, take a look at this:
    http://stackoverflow.com/questions/4850557/convert-string-from-codepage-1252-to-1250

  • Problem with web.show_document with Jinitiator and Firefox

Not sure Firefox 2.0 is officially certified with Forms 9.0.4.1 and Jinitiatorbut regardless we have some users who want to use this combination. Everything seems to work fine except for the calls to web.show_document which opens a new browser window and displays some html etc.
The problem is that even though the client Forms JVM is Jinitiator (1.3.1.18 or .21) when the call to web.show_document occurs somehow the Sun Java Plugin starts and having the two JVM's at once causes a fatal crash in Firefox. Can anyone suggest a way to preven the second JVM from opening?
When the user uses the Sun Plug as the client Forms JVM there is no problem as the second JVM does not open. Unfortunately some users insist on Jinitiator with Firefox hence the problem. -quinn

    James,
This whole applet embedded in a browser model for webforms is driving us batty at times. The list of problems includes:
    1) Users are constantly tempted by browser controls and accidentally do all sorts of things to get them in trouble. This has included but not limited to using the navigation arrows, jumping off to read their email in the same window as the form and returning to a dead forms session, minimizing, resizing, blurring off to another window and then returning back by clicking on the title bar of the browser and wondering why the form doesn't tab etc.
Sure hobbling the browser by opening with limited functionality is a possibility but not a complete solution.
    2) New versions of browsers seem to break something. Both IE 7 and Firefox 2 have their own problems with web.show_document, especially file associations such as CSV and DBF and trying to open things in Excel in IE7.Firefox seems to have less problems for some yet some some oddities like the one that started this thread (and 2.0 opening new windows in tabs by default instead of windows).
    3) JVM jigsaw puzzle. Is it Jinit or Sun, which versions? Which combinations of browser version and JVM works.
    4) General fragility of the whole architecture. Running a client JVM in a web browser on top of a PC Operating system connectiong to a forms server over a network embedded in a Java Container server on a full blown web server running on a unix operating system is pushing the bubble. Throw in the mix that any of these components can be combined in numerous ways makes one wonder how it works as well as it does.
Still users randomly getting dropped connections to forms server (network gltches?). General sluggishness (poorly written forms?). Periods of users with unduplicatable errors primarily network related it would appear.
General feel that it is not rock solid stable. Perusing metalink documents on performance and tuning gives too much and too general info to troubleshoot so just shrug shoulders and say 'network problem'.
What's the solution? Java webstart would seem to help at least with the browser realted issues but is that supported and documented how to use yet. Also we'd lose web_show_document which is critical (could it be replaced by webutil calls to open browser?).

Jinitiator has nothing to do with JDeveloper. You may wish to try the Forms Forum.

  • Problem with Jinitiator 1.3.1.9 , Windows 7,  IE 8

    Hi,
We have a problem running Jinitiator 1.3.1.9 (Forms f60servlet) on Windows 7, IE 8. We can start the application, and run the forms with no problem but when we change to another application (ALT+TAB) and we try to return , the browser (IE 8) that was running the forms (f60servlet) doesn't refresh (dies literally) .
Previously we were working with Windows XP and everything was correctly, but recently the company decided to migrate to windows 7.
Do you know what is the problem?. Any advice?
We know that our versions are very old (forms, Oracle) must be updated , but it is a legacy application and is not easy to migrate ASAP.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi John,
Can u try the work around mentioned in the below link
    http://notsomany.wordpress.com/2010/03/30/jinitiator-working-on-windows-7/
Also some times IE8 can block the webutil_file_transfer.
AS_to_Client if "protected mode" is ON for the security zone your forms url is in (look in the statusbar in IE ->
internet, trusted site, ... -> protected mode: On/Off)

  • Forms/Reports with Jinitiator - Firefox - on Vista works.

it works with Firefox. Tested today.
Forms Services - iAS 10.1.2.0.2 - running on 32bit Linux
Jinitiator 1.3.1.22 (default one that comes with iAS 10.1.2.0.2) - installed on Vista - no problem
Firefox (vista certified latest version) -- install Firefox first then JInitiator then check "about:plugins" in Firefox to verify that Jinitiator plugin is recognized,
Then access your Form url from within Firefox on Vista
(tested the forms, reports, formsgraph modules in sorms application, sso, forms/reports integratio n, using tabs, master detail forms, etc - all works).
This is to inform other users - so I hope it proves useful.

Did you try I.E browser7.0 with forms/reports on Vista?
In my case, our application is not going well with I.E 7.0.
would you try several times in your application and let us know.
thank you so much for your information

  • Exception handling in jinitiator

    hallo,
we are currently using jinitiator 1.3.1.9 and i have a little question concerning the exception handling in it. i don't think, that the handling differes to older version, so maybe one can help me out though he uses an "older" version.
now the problem. we use java functionality either in webmode (jinitiator) and in client-server-mode (wrapper pl/sql unit) and want to pass the java exception trace to the forms, so that we can handle errors in user interaction. we found a way to da that by developing a printstream, which collects trace information in a string. this method works well in client-server-mode but not in webmode. in the first case all the normal trace information is written with the printstream-method println(String). in the webmode case, a different method is used, println(char[]). the strange thing about it is, that the character array contains address information for an object (maybe the string). i my opinion the behaviour is because of the jinitiator. does anyone know about the exception handling and collecting the trace information in jinitiator?? thanks very much in advance.

    hi again,
thanks for answering, but I think you got me wrong or I didn't make myself clearly. I don't want to pass a PL/SQL error to the bean to have it printed out on the console. I want it the other wa around. my problem was to get the stack trace of a java exception and make it accessible to the form to print it out as a message for instance. unfortunately this way is quite impossible to do, because jinitiator has a different exception handling to the sun VM. the jinitiator implements the printStackTrace(*) methods as native calls and obviously the underlying code handles the addresses of the passed trace objects and prints them out the a special console somehow. so if one overwrites the printStack() methods in his own Exception, he gets a problem because of the different exception trace handling in jinitiator.

  • Oracle JInitiator issue with Firefox 3 and IE7 - not working!

    Hi,
I'm accessing the oracle apps server through VPN using a Windows Vista system running Firefox 3 and IE 7. I'm able to log on and access the self service pages correctly. But I'm unable to access the form based pages. If I use the JInitiator 1.3.1.21, both browsers crash (though Firefox says missing plugin and mentions this version only). On installing higher versions of the plugin (28, 30), IE 7 keeps giving the message "installing components...oajinit.exe" and there is no more progress.
Could anyone please let me know what could be the issue and how to resolve it.
    Thanks in advance!

As I don't have access to metalink yet, can you tell me for my configuration what is certified and what browser I should use? I already mentioned that my OS is Vista and I have IE7. I realise that IE6 cannot run on Vista and now Firefox 3 cannot be used. So what JInitiator should I use for IE 7?The currently supported desktops for Release 11i include:
    - Win2K / WinXP + IE6 / Firefox 2.x
    - WinXP + IE7 / Firefox 2.x
    - Mac OS X v10.3.9 + Safari 1.3 and higher
    - Mac OS X v10.4.7 + Safari 2.0 and higher
    - Vista desktop clients running the native JRE plug-in on IE 7 ***

  • Java plug-in.  Java 1.4 or Jinitiator?

My office has had numerous issues with Java while running Discoverer over the years. I noticed, in the Enterprise Manager console, that I have 2 choices for the Java plug-in. Sun Java plug-in (1.4) (what we use now) and Oracle Jinitiator. Given the issues we have had with Java I am tempted to try Jinitiator. Does anyone know the risks/drawbacks to trying Jinitiator? I tried googling exactly what Jinitiator does (compared to just Java), but the results were not very helpful. There must be a reason why there is an option to use one or the other, but I'm uncertain of Jinitiator's purpose (and how it will affect my users' Discoverer experience).
    Thanks!

    Hi,
Oracle Jinitiator is based on JDK 1.3 (now long deprecated). It was an "enhanced" JRE to work with some specific features and coding with E-Business Suite forms. Discoverer also used it so that one could avoid JRE conflicts when using both E-BS Forms and the Discoverer Plus applet.
I'm not sure if you are using an E-Business Suite shop or nor.
The following documents might help you out:

    http://blogs.oracle.com/stevenChan/2009/06/roundup_oracle_jinitiator_13_desupported_in_july_2.html
I would recommend sticking with Java and addressing any issues you have with Oracle.
    Other comments welcomed.
