  • Java.rmi.ConnectException: Connection refuse

    Hi all,
    I have built a simple RMI client server application.I can run client & server fine locally.
    However if I test this appplication over the internet, I get this exception on the client:
    java.rmi.ConnectException: Connection refused to host: 169.254.157.53; nested exception is:
    java.net.ConnectException: Connection timed out: connectConnection refused to host:169.254.157.53
    The RMI server is running on my PC and the client on a friend's remote PC.Both PCs are connected to Internet.
    I don't have any firewall running on my PC (including windows XP firewall). The server RMI lookup on the client happens correctly,
    the exception is raised when the client tries to call the remote method on the server.
    Here is an extract of my RMI server code (it works locally):
    public static void main(String[] args) throws Exception {
              try {
              // args[0] contains the database server name given as command line argument, arg[1] contains binary path that contains weather jpeg files
              CPrimaryWeatherServer test = new CPrimaryWeatherServer(args[0], args[1]);
              Naming.rebind("rmi://localhost:1099/WeatherPrimaryService", test);
              System.out.println("Serveur mto principal dmarr");
              } catch (Exception e){ System.out.println(e.getMessage());}
    Here is an extract of my RMI client code (it works locally):
    try{
                        rec=1;
                        leftClik=1;
                        System.out.println("Before RMI lookup");
                        IPrimaryWeatherServerService serveur =(IPrimaryWeatherServerService)Naming.lookup("rmi://"+primWS+":1099/WeatherPrimaryService");
                        System.out.println("After RMI lookup");
                        System.out.println("Before server method call");
                        z=serveur.getFullWeatherData(); --> exception is raised here
                        System.out.println("After RMI server method call");
    I am directly connected to Internet using an ethernet card connected to an ADSL modem.169.254.157.53 is the automatic IP of my network card different from the IP given by my ISP. By the way, the client tries to contact me using my DNS name that resolves correctly to my ISP IP adress.
    Thanks a lot for help,

    because I am guessing that a local IP address is being embedded into the stub so the clien't can't find the remote server. I am guessing because you didn't provide the exception or its text. Anyway the suggestion will cause the correct public IP address/hostname to be embedded into the stub.

  • ConnectException, connection refused

    I have an RMI server/client Web applet program working, with the server running on a RHEL4 linux server, and other linux clients.
    When I try to run the applet from a browser on a Windows client, I get a connection refused error. I am not setting a security manager,
    and both boxes are using Java 1.6.07. The exception and its stack trace are as follows:

    Any ideas?

    Never mind... had edited code and somehow had a Naming.lookup instead of using the object returned by LocateRegistry.getRegistry(URL).
    I'm on to the debugging of the access denied issue now...
    Sorry, I'm a newbie but I'm learning fast.

    systemProperties.put("sun.rmi.server.disableHttp","false");
    pls guide me how exactly i should include in the client codings.

    Note: from http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4/docs/guide/rmi/sunrmiproperties.html/#connectionTimeout
    sun.rmi.transport.proxy.connectTimeout (1.1 and later)
    The value of this property represents the maximum length of time (in milliseconds) that the RMI runtime will wait for a connection attempt (createSocket) to complete, before attempting to contact the server using HTTP. This property is only used when the http.proxyHost property is set and the value of java.rmi.server.disableHttp is false. The default value is 15000 milliseconds (15 seconds).

  • ConnectException: Connection refused (No firewall)

    Hi
    In my program i need to connect to another PC on the network. I'm currently trying this tutorial: http://java.sun.com/docs/books/tutorial/networking/sockets/clientServer.html
    The server PC listens to port 4444 without any problem (No error Message "Could not listen on port: 4444" )
    But when the client wants to connect to port 4444, I get this "Connection Refused: connect" error.
    On both PC's the firewall has been disabled, so normally all ports should be open???
    Some standard ports on the server machine (135,139, 445,...) are open, and I can connect to these ports without any problem.
    Anybody has an idea what this problem can be?
    Thanks in advance!

    Hmmm, reboot did the trick :/
    After rebooting, things worked fine. ^^

    What is the Port in which you are ruinning the RMI?
    You need to mention the port.
    Simply chek if you have proper connectivity to the Server and the RMI Service as the speicifed port, try the debugging commands from command prompt like:
    D:>telnet <Server IP Address> <Port Number>
    If this command clears the windows into a blank window as if waiting for you input then it means that you have access to the Server and the RMI service is running on the machine.
    If not, it is either NOT accessible or RMI Service is not working.
    Thanks and regards,

  • What does java.rmi.ConnectException: Connection refused to host mean? ¶

    Several users have run into a java.rmi.ConnectException message during deployment, and need some information on how to troubleshoot this. We'll be adding this to our documentation, but thought it might be useful now.
    In NoSQL DB R2.0, the show plan -id <id> command displays plan status and any errors that may have occurred. If you see this exception listed in the error section, it means that the Admin service was unable to reach one of the NoSQL DB components while the system was trying to execute an administrative command.
    The first step is check on the overall status of the store. One way to do that is to use the show topology command, followed by the verify command. The show topology command will display the layout of the store, while verify will check the status of each component. A component that can't be reached will display a status of UNREACHABLE.
    In general, NoSQL DB attempts to make any troubleshooting information you need available through the Admin CLI, through commands like show plan, show events, show faults. A ConnectException message means that a communication channel either was not established, or failed, and in those cases, troubleshooting information may not have been conveyed to the Admin service. This is particularly true if there was a communication failure during initial deployment of a component.
    The next step would be to look in the NoSQL log files for more detailed error information. Look first in the aggregated storewide log, which can be found in the node that is hosting the master admin service, under the KVROOT/<storename>/logs/<storename>*.log. You can locate the master Admin through the "verify" command. This log file contains information from all the different components in the store.
    Suppose Replication Node rg1-rn3, on Storage Node sn3, is not responsive. Look through the <storename>.log for entries made by those components. Each log entry is prefixed with the name of the component that issued the log message. Sometimes the aggregated storewide log has too much information, or sometimes information from a component was not transmitted to the Admin, and therefore isn't included in the aggregated log. In that case, it can be more helpful to look at the Replication Node or Storage Node logs directly, which can be found on their host, in the <KVROOT>/<storename>/logs directory.
    If the problem occurs during an initial deployment, it can be particularly helpful to review the Storage Node logs to make sure that the Storage Node Agent on that node was created correctly, and that the process came up as expected, according to the installation directions, and the Replication Node logs. Some of the common reasons why a Replication Node might not come up are that here is inadequate heap and memory on the node, or that a initial configuration parameter is misspelled or has an invalid value, or that the time skew between components is greater than NoSQL's acceptable limit.

    Sometimes there are posts that are so funny, that I really do fall off my chair and writhe on the floor laughing hysterically.
    mydc.antipodes.com is my domain controller, it's most certainly not yours !
    If you are running Active Directory (although I somehow seem to think that you are not), the LDAP URL will contain the fully qualified DNS name of your domain controller and the distingushed name of your Active Directory domain (or part thereof).
    Because you are most certainly do not have access to my domain, nor would my domain controller be registered with your DNS server or listed in your hosts file, that explains why you receive the Unknown Host Exception.
    Now the reason why I think you aren't runnning Active Directory is that you say you are running on Windows XP and when you use ADSI (winnt://localhost) it all works.
    The ADSI provider WINNT, uses the Windows NT/LM API's which are used to access either the local Windows account store which is sometimes referred to as Security Accounts Manager (SAM), or a Windows NT 4 domain. (Actually it could be used to access Active Directory, albeit using the NT/LM API's rather than LDAP). The JNDI LDAP provider supports the LDAP protocol, it does not support NT/LM.
    If on the other hand I'm wrong, and you do have Active Directory present in your network, either ask the admin for the DNS name of the domain controller,and the distinguished name of your domain, look up the LDAP Resource Records (RR's) in your DNS, or use the Windows LDP.EXE tool, leave everything blank, hit the connect button and look at the Root DSE for the naming contexts and dns host name values.

  • Connection refused error when trying to to lookup EJB in iAS

    Hi,
    I tried to write a client that uses an EJB in an 9.0.3 iAS running on windows NT SP6, and the JNDI lookup keeps failing with the following error:
    javax.naming.NamingException: Lookup error: java.net.ConnectException: Connection refused: connect; nested exception is:
    java.net.ConnectException: Connection refused: connect
         java.lang.Object com.evermind.server.rmi.RMIContext.lookup(java.lang.String)
              RMIContext.java:134
         java.lang.Object javax.naming.InitialContext.lookup(java.lang.String)
              InitialContext.java:345
         void Samplecom.mind.ejb.stubs.AccountComplexStubClient.main(java.lang.String[])
              AccountComplexStubClient.java:24
    I am using the following properties for the lookup:
    env.putContext.INITIAL_CONTEXT_FACTORY, "com.evermind.server.rmi.RMIInitialContextFactory");
    env.put(Context.SECURITY_PRINCIPAL, "ias_admin");
    env.put(Context.SECURITY_CREDENTIALS, "ias_admin1");
    env.put(Context.PROVIDER_URL, "ormi://localhost:23791/mindejb");
    Where:
    * 23791 is the port configured in the rmi.xml
    * mindejb is the name of the module
    * ias_admin1 is the correct password of ias_admin user
    Similar properties worked for a stand alone oc4j. What have I done wrong?
    Any help will be appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Avi

    Hi -
    I can resend what I think I would have said later on. No guarantees though ;-)
    What you need to do is to look at the RMI port range allocated in the opmn.xml file for the OC4J instance you are trying to connect to. OPMN basically looks at the first number, and determines if the port is free. If it is, it will use it. If it's not, it will go to the next sequential number and try that, etc.
    So if you have a defined port range of 3101-3200 and you only have one process, then it's a pretty safe bet (unless another rogue process has grabbed it) that the port you need will be the first one listed - 3101. If you specified two JVM processes to be started for the instance, then it's likely that 3101 and 3102 will be used.
    I think that's what I'd written in the truncated text.
    In our forthcoming 904 release, we're providing a port lookup service which will be able to be used by remote clients to discover the RMI ports used for OC4J instances. This will then avoid the client (and admins) needing to know and publish the specific ports used. Since OPMN itself knows which ports have been allocated, it can be queried by remote clients to find out where to connect. I've not seen the final spec, but I think this lookup will be transparent to the client in terms of code and will only require the addition of a prefix to the provider.url property used in jndi.propeties.
    It's likely to be of a format such as opmn:lookup:ormi://<known-ias-host-location>.
    Sorry about the truncation, it looks like that has now been rectified for the forums.

  • Error while deploying module with iasdeploy : Exception while createXmlDocument() : connection refused

    Hi to you all,
    I work with iAS 6.0 sp2 on Solaris.
    For 1 day, I get that exception when trying to deploy or remove my modules (servlets + JSP) with the iasdeploy tool :
    Exception while createXmlDocument()

    at com.netscape.server.deployment.WebbAppReg.run(compiled code)
    at com.netscape.server.deployment.WebbAppReg.main(Unknown source)
    The war archive is put in the JAR directory, unpacked in the APPS/modules directory, but the servlets of the module have the null GUID in the registry ({000000 000000 000000}. And so, I have the GX error when trying to invoke them.
    What appends ? Is it a iAS process which is unable ?
    Please help !
    Paul-Emile

    I think you have not put the xml files in the war file.
    You need to put them under WEB-INF/ directory. Manually generate the guids using kguidgen script and try to deploy the war module. It should work fine. If it doesnot work please send me the file. So that I can further investigate and find out where exactly the problem is.Other wise you can use the deploytool.
    Please let me know if this works fine.
    Thanks for visiting our web forum.
