JobAttributes.setPrinter(String printer) How to use it?

Anynody knows whether setPrinter(...) method can change the default printer? I'm using win2k and here is my code:

When using the print dialog there are no problems with changing the default printer, but I want to hide it! And when I tried to change the printer with setPrinter(...) method, nothing happened! I also tried to pass "\\\\Printer Server Name\\Shared Printer Name" to setPrinter but also nothing...
I will appreciate any ideas, thanks in advance

I am encountering the same problem as you. setPrinter is doing nothing.
Ideally I would like to set it using setprinter(\\\\printserver\printer);

I'm guessing that the res.txt file is a basic ASCII file, right?
If this is the case then that is your problem. When you used readUTF() the implementation was expecting a string in UTF format and not basic ASCII so it didn't know how to read it.
And when you used the readChar() method you have to remember that Java is a Unicode language so chars are 2 bytes. If the string has an odd number of characters then the last character won't have the 2 bytes and you will get an EOFException. And even if the number of chars was even, you wouldn't get the exception but the text wouldn't be what you expect since it was reading text encoded in single byte ASCII format.
You have two choices:
a) Encode the res.txt file appropiately, either save as as a UTF-8 file and use readUTF(), or a Unicode file and use the readChar() method.
b) Use readByte() instead of readChar() and save the bytes in an array, then pass that array to a string constructor.

We have a forms application deploed on LINUX (Oracle application server 10g).
I have to print a file from local windows PC to a linux Print Queue from forms
I have the following code

Everything works fine if I use a windows printer like \\machine\printer.
I want to use a Linux printer and specified the print queue as
\\machine\print_queue_name. It's not working
and I get error ORA-302000 on the following line

and if I give only the queue name no error but it's not printing.
Could you please tell me how to use a Linux/Unix print queue in this situation

the simplest way is to edit the interface file (look in /etc/lp/interfaces for existing printers). Each script is
run per print job where stdin has your print data, and stdout is going to your print device. You can just
send the output to a file instead (assuming you can create a file in the windows directory from the solaris
box). If it's a network share, you could use smbclient.

To add to Scott's post. Option 60 would be useful if you needed to put certain types of AP on specific controllers. Otherwise, no real need to use it for the most part.
Though, I do recall an issue a few years ago that some windows machines had issues getting DHCP if option 43 is being returned.
Now, on an IOS switch, you can only configure one option 60 per DHCP scope

Deskjet 6988dt, how to use photo/envelope slot for printing 4x6 photo paper?

Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit OS. Printer has the extra250 sheet paper tray. Upper and lower tray work fine. I can of course load photo paper in upper tray and print photos from there, but I was trying to load just one sheet of photo paper in the little slot since I don't want to have photo paper loaded all the time. Since I have to use the generic Windows driver for this printer as HP doesn't have a driver update for this printer and Windows 7, the only selections I'm seeing in printer properties is "automatic, upper, lower". I've tried all three of those settings and none take the paper from the little slot where I'm manually feeding the 4x6 photo paper. What am I doing wrong? Could it be that this feature just isn't enabled with the generic Windows driver?
The reference/instruction documentation that came with this printer is very sparse. I can't find any instruction on how to use the photo/evelope slot. In fact I'd say overall the documentation is very poor.
I just checked the HP site, still no Windows 7 64-bit driver available.

Found a .pdf document on line for the Desjet 6980 series printers. Much more comprehensive than what came with the printer.

Follow these steps to use the photo/envelope feeder to print a single photo:
1. Insert the photo paper into the photo/envelope feeder with the side to be printed on
facing down.
2. Gently push the photo paper into the photo/envelope feeder as far as it will
comfortably go.
3. Slide the photo/envelope feeder forward as far as it will go.
4. Print the photo.
Problem was, although I was inserting the 4x6 photo paper into the feeder, I wasn't pushing the little plastic slide forward.

How to use AVDocPrintPagesWithParams for printing without any prompt dialog or alert message ?

I have a problem to print the pages of a pdf, but with out any dialog box prompt. So I choosed the api AVDocPrintPagesWithParams(avDoc, avDocPrintParam);
But I don't know how to set parameter for 2nd parameter of the funtion. My requirement is I want to print pdf's using default printer of the system i.e. Print As PDF using Abode PDF print.
Page Dimension should be same as previous, with postscript value 3 (best print).
I have used AVDocPrintPages (AVDoc doc, ASInt32 firstPage,ASInt32 lastPage, ASInt32 psLevel, ASBool binaryOK,ASBool shrinkToFit); But it gives an error message for some pdf's that PDF may not printed correctly because font information couldn't be found.
So can anyone let me know please how to set the parameter of AVDocPrintParam, so that I can use AVDocPrintPagesWithParams and do the same job.

I am into an operation where I have check whether each objects falls inside my rectangular region or not. For this I am taking help of BBox and matrix information. The problem is that when I find PDF's those have form or container objects, their matrix and BBox is depenedent on matirx of the form or container containing them.
In most cases by adding(concetinating ) the matrix value of form and the element gives the correct matrix, BBox value, but some cases I am yet to understand the behaviours. So to avoid these form and container for our immidiate project delivery, we are using this option to print the pdf and then process for checking the position of elements.
My original requirement is :
How to know objects position inside a form or container ?
This is just an alternative time being way to achieve the task. But if you have any idea of how to detect postion of objects inside form/container then please let me know.

Do you have the Officejet 4215 series All-in-One printer?
If so, then there is no full feature driver for the printer. The printer is installed using the Windows Update menu of the print drivers. For information about using the Windows Update driver click here.
Do you have this printer connected via USB? If so, then there are workaround methods to get the printer to scan, as the old software package is not available on Windows 8. In the document linked above, scroll down to the section on how to scan with the Update driver to find information on how to perform these types of scans. Hope this helps.
