Joining files with the "cat" command

I have four files, ending in .rar, .r00, .r01, and .ro2. They need to be joined. I have tried:
cat filename1 filename2 filename3 filename4
the result is an output string of apparent gibberish, with a lot of beeping noises. I let it run overninght and it was still the same in the morning with no results.
I need to join these files.
1. Is cat the right command to join them? If not, what is the correct command and how do I use it?
2. If cat is the right command to join the files, what am I doing wrong?
Thank you.

Typically, binary files, e.g., archive and image files, have some structure to them. Catenating files with cat won't recognize or honor that structure, so the resulting file won't be useful.
You're other problem, as already pointed out, is that cat's output defaults to your terminal window, so you need to redirect its output to a file with "> filename". Because it was a binary file, you saw gibberish and heard beeps.

  • WEBUTIL problems importing a file with the HOST command.

We are investigating a problem where the users are trying to import a file in from the webserver to be used by the application. The users have successfully moved the file from their local PC to the application server. But, when we perform a HOST command to have the form moved to the UNIX directory, the form hangs. The very last statement of the .BAT file used in the HOST command does the move of the file. And, we can see the entire file in the UNIX directory, we just don't get return back to the form.
I added displays before and after the HOST command in the form. I see the display before the command but don't receive anything after. The weird thing is this is only happening in our development server. The same issue is not happening in production. Also, if I run the form in client server mode, it works fine also. So, it has to be something on the development application server.
If anyone has any advice, I would appreciate their help.
    Thanks.

On the server (assuming Windows since you mention a batch file), locate the Oracle Process Manager Service (for mid tier) on the MS Services Console. Open the properties for this service and click on the "Log on" tab. Check the box labeled "Allow service to interact with desktop".
That said, if you are executing a batch file on the Windows server to transfer another file to a Unix machine, the above likely won't work either. This is because Windows will not allow a service permission to access network resources (for security purposes). In this case, rather than the above, you will need to change the same setting so a real domain user and not the "Local System" account.

  • Postscript file with the RUN command

I have inherited some code that I'm trying to fix.   The postscript file contains a 'RUN' command.  When I try to open the file, I get the error unable to recognize the command.  Understandable since that command does not reside on my server.  It resides on a UNIX box which controls the printer.  However when I try to print the file to the printer nothing happens.  Neither is the command run and the results printed out nor the contents of .PS file is printed.  Please help.

I have included an old PostScript program I wrote from the early 1990's that will print a directory of the interpreter's file system, which is a good place to start.
If there are no files matching the string FG530 then you are out of luck, unless you can find it and download it to the PostScript file system again.
I added the commented lines about file paths and the included image is of the first page of the generated output:

    Hello,
    is reality,
Select statement from a join file deletes the primary records with MS Explorer 6, Firefox not, this with a normal data provider or with a normal "select..." statement.
This is very strange, I should have a.a.s.p. a solution or workaround

Please see the following excerpt from the online documentation.
    http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E11882_01/server.112/e22490/ldr_modes.htm#SUTIL1332
    Enabled Constraints
During a direct path load, the constraints that remain enabled are as follows:
    NOT NULL
    UNIQUE
PRIMARY KEY (unique-constraints on not-null columns)
NOT NULL constraints are checked at column array build time. Any row that violates the NOT NULL constraint is rejected.
Even though UNIQUE constraints remain enabled during direct path loads, any rows that violate those constraints are loaded anyway (this is different than in conventional path in which such rows would be rejected). When indexes are rebuilt at the end of the direct path load, UNIQUE constraints are verified and if a violation is detected, then the index will be left in an Index Unusable state. See "Indexes Left in an Unusable State".

  • How can I create a file with the excel file type?

I work with forms 4.5 and I could create "TEXT_IO.FILE_TYPE", but with this I make a I/O TEXT file not a file with the characteristics from a excel file! Can somebody help me please?!?!?
    Best regards,
    Chris from Portugal

The extension file must be 'CSV' and not 'CVS'. It's better to separate your items by a ';'
The HOST command you have to execute after creating the file it's HOST(EXEL_PATH SPACE YOUR_FILE) OR Open the DOS PROMPT and type: Exel your_file_name.

  • Export to PDF - Can a single report (rpt file) create multiple PDF files using the export command?

    Post Author: markeyjd2
    CA Forum: Exporting
    Greetings forum members,
My question is, in its entirety: Can a single report (rpt file) create multiple PDF files using the export command, ideally one PDF file per DB record?
In my case; I have a Crystal Report that reads data from a DB table containing ~ 500 records.  When I export the report to a PDF file, I get one PDF file, with ~ 500 pages.
What I would like to do is export the report to ~ 500 individual PDF files; One file per DB record.  The file names would be based on the table's primary key.
    Is this possible?

    CA Forum: Exporting
    Hi,
you need some lines of code, but its easy. Dependend on how to start the generation of your 500 PDFs, you can write an ASP page and start it via Web Browser, or a Windows Script and start it via scheduled job...
Here's an abstract of the ASP code I use:
First, you create a recordset (here: "rsc") which gives you the list of ID fields you want to export, then you create CrystalRuntime.Application object, then you loop through the recordset, open your report (here: "oRpt") and set login info. Then set the selectionformula, so that the report displays only the data of the current ID, e.g.:
      oRpt.RecordSelectionFormula = "(" & oRpt.RecordSelectionFormula & ") AND {myTab.myVal}=" & rsc("myVal")
Then you export the report, move to the next record in recordset, and repeat the loop until recordset.EOF. Then you close recordset and connection.

  • How do I make Applescript to compress 2 filez with the same name?

Hello guys and thank you for reading this!
I don't know a lot about programming, but i believe applescript can save my life. What I need is.
Detecting 2 files with the same name, but differnt extension. (song 1.jpg, song 1.mp3)
Compressing those 2 files into a single .zip (In the end I would have song 1.jpg, song 1.mp3 and song 1.zip
And that's it! I know its pretty simple, and I've seen the "Create Archive" in automator, but I don't really know how to tell him which files to Compress.
    Thanks again!

    Hi,
    Try this script :
    set sourceFolder to choose folder
    tell application "System Events"
{name, name extension} of (files of sourceFolder whose name extension is not "zip")
my compress2FilesSameName(the result, sourceFolder as string)
repeat with i in (get folders of sourceFolder) --check in subfolders
{name, name extension} of (files of i whose name extension is not "zip")
my compress2FilesSameName(the result, path of i)
          end repeat
    end tell
    on compress2FilesSameName(tList, tFolder)
set tnames to item 1 of tList
set tExtensions to item 2 of tList
          set tc to count tnames
          set j to 1
          repeat while j < tc
tell (item j of tExtensions) to if it is not missing value or it is not "" then
                      set n1 to (count) + 2
                else
                      set n1 to 1
                end if
tell (item (j + 1) of tExtensions) to if it is not missing value or it is not "" then
                      set n2 to (count) + 2
                else
                      set n2 to 1
                end if
set name1 to item j of tnames
                set name2 to item (j + 1) of tnames
                if (text 1 thru -n1 of name1) = (text 1 thru -n2 of name2) then -- same name
set tFile1 to quoted form of POSIX path of (tFolder & name1)
set tFile2 to quoted form of POSIX path of (tFolder & name2)
set zipFile to quoted form of POSIX path of (tFolder & (text 1 thru -n1 of name1) & ".zip")
                      do shell script "/usr/bin/zip -j  " & zipFile & " " & tFile1 & " " & tFile2
                      set j to j + 2
                else
                      set j to j + 1
                end if
          end repeat
    end compress2FilesSameName
if an archive already exists with the same name (in the parent folder of the files to compress) , the ZIP command overwrite this ".zip" file.
Example  with "song 1.jpg", "song 1.mp3" and "song 1.zip" :
If "song 1.zip" doesn't exist, the ZIP command create the "song 1.zip" file.
If "song 1.zip" exist, the ZIP command overwrite the "song 1.zip" file (it will not create a new archive).

Are you sure? I would be very surprised if that was the case.
How does the computer/filing system differentiate the files, if not by their names?
How do you tell the computer which one you want? (On the command line.)

  • How to export all tracks into audio files with the same duration

    Hi everybody.
I am trying to export all the tracks into different audio files.
It's 10 soft. instruments and an audio track. I tried with "File>Export>All Tracks as Audio File but the result is 11 audio files with different lengths. As the song is 3 minutes and 20 seconds I would like every single track to be 3.22 sec long.
How do I do it? In fact, each track is composed not only by played instruments but also by moments of silence.
    Thanks!!

The files are different lengths because each instrument does not stop playing at the same moment. It would accomplish nothing other than waste disk space if Logic appended silence to the end of each file in order to make each track the same length. The different lengths you see mean nothing because the absence of appended silence means nothing.
each track is composed not only by played instruments but also by moments of silence.
Naturally. And that silence is accounted for in your exported files, when the silence appears at the beginning of the track, and when it appears during the track. It just isn't appended at the end because that would be pointless. Consider this project, consisting of four tracks:
When I use the command File > Export > All Tracks as Audio Files, Logic will produce four files that look like this:
The files are not equal in length, which is perfectly fine. What's important is that they all start at bar 1, and will align properly when imported into some other program. So all you need is the command you already used: File > Export > All Tracks as Audio Files. In one step, it will produce all the files you need, and it will produce them correctly.
By using Bounce, you would be gaining nothing except extra work, because you would have to do it separately for each file you wanted to produce. With Export > All Tracks as Audio Files, you get all your files with just one command.
    iSchwartz wrote:
exporting tracks means that any panning or automation will not be rendered. So if you want the engineer to put up all of your tracks at unity gain (all faders at zero) and have your tracks & stems reproduce the mix you're hearing at your studio, use bounce, not export.
If you want to have your tracks & stems reproduce the mix you're hearing at your studio, there's no need to go to the extra effort of using Bounce instead of Export. You only need to enable (in the Export dialog) the checkbox "Include Volume/Pan Automation." This is explained on p. 1022. When you do this, any panning or automation will indeed be rendered.

  • Externally opening a file with the program its associated with

Basically I'm looking to simulate what would happen if you double clicked on something in a windows explorer window. I want to have the operating system open a file with the application that as associated with it.
    how do I do it?

Have you considered the portability issue?
Win - Associate by editable user preferences
Mac - Associate to creation program
Unix/Dos - Explicitly associate program at command
Rather than just using exec, you could look into something encapsulated to set which program to use so you could use on other system.

  • How do I restart the SNMP agents with the original command line options?

I'm creating an application that changes the SNMP trap target configuration files and then restarts the SNMP agent. I'm currently working with the mibiisa agent. I want to make sure that I restart the service with the new trap targets but with the original command line options. How can I restart the mibiisa service with the same command line options that it originally loaded with?

It is not "Network Time" that is the problem, but actually "SystemStarter." SystemStarter is an interim kludge to enable the work or the old StartupItems until they can be converted to LaunchDaemons or LaunchAgents controlled by launchd. Launcd calls SystemStarter to launch all the unconverted StartupItems. ntpd is now under the control of launchd directly.
Launchctl is the command to load and unload the plist files, but I don't think it has a mechanism to restart a daemon.
There are start and stop commands in launchctl, but the man page indicates that they are for debugging purposes.
I also imagine you could just kill the ntp daemon and let it restart with new settings. It is most likely set to "keepAlive" so that it will automatically restart.

how to auto insert a number array with size of 20 into a named excel file  with the positon is from A1 TO A20?i use lv6.1

You don't need us to give you an example, as the example already comes with LV. Go to Help>>Find Examples and search for "excel". You will find an example called "write table to XL". You should note that the example doesn't do that exactly, because it writes a 2D array from 2 to N.
You can modify the example by using only one for loop (instead of nested loops) with a 1D array or by going into the Set Cell Value and modifying it to accept a second cell value for the Cell2 terminal and wiring in a 1D array instead of the single string. If you do modify it, be sure to save it under a different name, so you don't overwrite the original.
