JOptionPane.showOptionDailog Hangs Application

Hi,
JOptionPane.showOptionDailog hangs application(In JDK1.3.1) when used in Threads..
Is there anyway to get rid of this..
Thanks,
Sridhar.

So, as I understand you have following situation:
1. You have the GUI event thread (you did not created it explicte - once you did shown first component it was created by Swing)
2. You have, lets call it worker thread which does some work in background and can detect, that you must ask user for
password. This thread also does something, what you don't wan't to stop while user types password.
The critical situation is:
- worker thread detecects, that should ask for password and displays modal JDialog. This way the only active GUI part is this dialog and thread blocks, waiting (since invokeAndWait()) for user to finish typing - this way it can't process what it should.
For me the solution is:
- make sure, your worker thread can work even if password is not set - this way it can work while user is typing. It should be able to send password request, return to work and recive password;
- instead of using JOptionPane subclass JDialog:
class CPswPrompt extends JDialog
          private YourWorkerThreadClass worker;
   public CPswPrompt(YourWorkerThreadClass worker, Frame owner)
         super(owner);
         this.worker =worker;
       JButton ok = ...
       ok.addActionListener(new Ac...
                   public void actionPerformed (ActionEvent e)
worker.setYourUserPassword(....); //<<--- here you will pass pasword to worker thread.
};The show it with invokeLater.
if you make this dialog non-modal, you will have your GUI responsive and thread working.

  • Hanging application Adobe Premiere Pro.exe, version 1.5.0.0, hang module hu

I do not know what to do, Premiere1.5 is freezing and I look at  Event Viewer at Application error and this is what I see.
Hanging application Adobe Premiere Pro.exe, version 1.5.0.0, hang module hungapp, version 0.0.0.0, hang address 0x00000000.

I assume that this app hang is a recent development. Is that correct? What has changed on your system, since it last ran well? Any new hardware, or software? Anything with VST plug-ins? Any trial of any Audio editing programs, or maybe Native Instruments? I do not have PrPro 1.5, so this might be different, but, as the program loads, there is a little line of text, below the Adobe Logo. It's small, and goes by pretty quickly. If you get that, look closely and try to see what the last line of text is, before the program hangs. It is likely that the last line will tell you what PrPro is trying to load. Might give you a clue. It could also be whatever the "next" .dll, or whatever, that is causing your problem. Still, you'll have some place to start looking. Unfortunately, the hungapp messages do not yield much useful data, if at all. Do you get a link on the Event Viewer's error message box? Sometimes, those links actually provide useful info, though not as often as I'd like.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • JavaAccessBridge and doAccessibleActions function hang application

    Hi, good people.
Now i'm trying to integrate my C# app to Java Swing application.
So i'm using JavaAccessBridge 2.0.2 and WindowsAccessBridge.dll for that. For interaction with push buttons i use doAccessibleActions function and "click" action.
But sometimes when i try to "click" at button, in Java application, it hang.
It's a random bug, but some buttons hangs application more frequent than others.
Did anybody meet this bug or maybe resolve this problem?

    Attach the code.
But my suggestion would be first getAccessibleActions then call doAccessibleAction.

  • Crystalreportviewer export not working hangs application

We are using Crystal Report 13 with VisualStudio 2010 (Dot Net FW 4.0) in our desktop application.
When we are trying to export report using CrystalReportViewer's ExportReport button, application just get hangs on Windows Server 2008 and Windows 7 machines.
Same thing is working fine on Windows XP and Windows 2003 server.
But when we are doing exporting through code we are successfully able to do it.
Just for information we are deploying application with CRforVS_redist_install_64bit_13_0(for 64 bit machine) and CRforVS_mergemodules_13_0 (for 32 bit machine)
Please let us know whether we are missing anything while deploying our application.
    Thanks & Regards,
    Prashant Kedari

Thank you for your reply. Below I have given the more information about your queries.
So is this a 32 bit or a 64 bit app?
                 -     When we are building our application itu2019s build with option u201CAny CPUu201D in VS2010 so it will support both operation system 32 and 64 bit.
I assume from the above that the export is not working if you use the viewer export button? On click of the export button, you should be presented with a dialog for export format type and location.
                -      Yes, you are right. Export is not working if we use the viewer export button, and we are not able to see the dialog for export format type at all.  When we just click on the button report viewer itu2019s showing processing icon and just hangs up at that point on Windows Server 2008 and Windows 7 machines. Same thing is working fine on Windows XP and Windows 2003 server.
What format are you exporting to? Have you tried other export formats?
               -     When we are doing exporting through code we are successfully able to do it by selecting any format.
Are you able to print to a printer?
                -     Yes we are able to print to a printer.
I have gone through the Processd Monitor utility with my application, but not able to get any clue related to exporting failure.
    Thanks & Regards,

  • Printing hangs applications after upgrading to x.4.9

I thought the upgrade to X.4.9 went smoothly until I tried to print today. I can now no longer print from any application to either of my connected printers, or print to pdf. The application that is doing the printing hangs on the "processing page" window after I tell it to print, and is chewing up %100 of the cpu according to the Activity monitor. I tried reinstalling cups and Reseting the printing system via the print Utility (both of which have been suggested on other posts to solve X.4.9 printer issues) and neither of those worked. The weird thing is I have printer sharing on, and my wife can print to the printers that are connected to my machine from her laptop. I can see print jobs that she sends to the printer in the printer que of the print utility. Its just whenever I try to print, the application hangs before the file can be sent to the print que.

Try opening Disk Utility and running Repair Disk Permissions. You may even have to do this after booting from your OS X disc then selecting Utility > Disk Utility.
The other thing would be to look at the cups error log to see which process is failing. Once you identify it then sometimes this sort of error can be resolved by changing permissions on the file so that you have read/write.

  • Hanging application

    Hi all,
I have a problem with a hanging multithreaded C++ application (build with SunStudio10). To find out where it hangs, I want to debug it, but in the debugger I can not reproduce this behaviour. Is there a possibility to force the application to write a corefile when it hangs, that give me a snapshot of the current process state (callstack of every thread)?
    regards
    Arno

Instead of gcore'ing your process you might want to run dbx separately and 'attach' to the process.
You'll get your hang in dbx with all the debugging/inspecting functionality ready (not just call stack).

    __Fedor.

  • Deleting all rows in detached mode hangs application

    Hi all,
If we click on Detach button of table and do select all and delete , and click on detach button again (i.e to return to main screen), the screen gets hanged.
    Steps to reproduce:
    1.Go to [http://jdevadf.oracle.com/adf-richclient-demo/faces/components/table/updateableTable.jspx?|http://jdevadf.oracle.com/adf-richclient-demo/faces/components/table/updateableTable.jspx? ]
    2. Click Detach
3.Select all rows and click Delete (choose the third delete button which says 'Multiple row deletes one event' in tooltip )
    4.Click on Detach button again.
The screen hangs at this point
Is this a bug ? Any workarounds for this issue.
FYI, this behaviour is reproducible in Jdev 11.1.1.4 also
    Thanks,
    Vikas

Is this a bug ? Any workarounds for this issue. You've got the perfect test case to take to https://support.oracle.com, who would be able to answer both of those questions.

  • IPhoto '08:  Emptying Trash Can Hangs Application - Must FORCE QUIT

    Hi there,
I currently have about 1700 photos in my iPhoto trash can. When i try to 'empty trash', i am prompted with the confirm message, to which i reply "OK" ......... and that's IT! It hangs.
I have no choice but to 'force quit', as it is 'not responding'.
I did find a topic about this exact problem, but it was for iPhoto 6. I recommends holding down the Command and Option keys, opening iPhoto, then 'rebuilding the iPhoto Library database'. I am using iPhoto '08.. so i wasn't sure that that option would be still valid.
Can anybody help me get those photos out of my trash can??

Hi iWoman, and welcome to  Discussions.
This is the panther forum iWoman, but that shouldn't matter.
...recommends holding down the Command and Option keys, opening iPhoto, then 'rebuilding the iPhoto Library database'. I am using iPhoto '08.. so i wasn't sure that that option would be still valid.
It is still valid, so give it a try.
+In iPhoto ’08, you can rebuild your library by holding down both the Command and Option keys on your keyboard while you launch iPhoto. Keep those keys pressed until you are asked if you want to rebuild your library.+
Then see how you go, remember that 1700 photos is a lot so give iPhoto some time to do all of that work.

  • Sockets write/close operations hangs application

    Hi!
I've got a trouble with my web-application. It'a s chat system, that uses Keep-Alive connections for messages output and that recieves messages through another socket.
Everything is fine with receiving messages. But after message is received, I need to send it to all recepients. So, I use Socket.write() method. If writing is failed, or user is logged off, I use Socket.close().
Problem is, that sometimes Socket.write() and Socket.close() are blocking their threads.
How can I avoid such a blocking behaviour?
If I'll rewrite everything to use not sockets, but socket channels, can it help to solve my problem?
    Thanks.

If writes are blocking it can only mean that readers aren't reading. Fix that, and forget about the syncrhonization suggestion which is nonsense.
You can also use NIO in non-blocking mode to avoid blocking in writes, and it does lead to more scalable applications, but be prepared for about a 10x increase in complexity.

  • IPhoto library upgrade hangs, application unresponsive.

    Hello,
A few weeks ago all of a sudden my iPhoto library wouldn't open–I'd launch and get a spinning beach ball, force quit and try again, and get the beach ball. I deleted the .plist file to no avail, and then was told by someone who knows macs pretty well to just reinstall iPhoto and start fresh.
I reinstalled, updated to the latest version, and when I launch I'm told that my library needs to be upgraded. I start the upgrade and then after 30 seconds or so I get the beach ball and it says iPhoto is unresponsive. My library is around 50gb.
What should my next step be?
    Thanks!

Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.
    Regards
    TD

  • Audio related applications are hanging

All my applications that uses a sound device are hanging, Itunes, browsers, skype, etc. including the System Preferences Sound Pane.
Looking at the Console, all the hanging applications have the following error:
5/3/13 1:47:19.088 AM iTunes[300]: HALDefaultDevice::GetDefaultDevice: got an error getting the default device from the server, so picking one locally
5/3/13 1:47:19.089 AM Google Chrome[314]: HALDefaultDevice::GetDefaultDevice: got an error getting the default device from the server, so picking one locally
5/3/13 1:47:24.092 AM UserEventAgent[146]: HALDefaultDevice::GetDefaultDevice: got an error getting the default device from the server, so picking one locally
5/3/13 1:47:24.093 AM SystemUIServer[157]: HALDefaultDevice::GetDefaultDevice: failed to get the UID of the default device, so picking one locally
5/3/13 1:47:24.092 AM iTunes[300]: HALDefaultDevice::GetDefaultDevice: got an error getting the default device from the server, so picking one locally
5/3/13 1:47:24.093 AM Google Chrome[314]: HALDefaultDevice::GetDefaultDevice: got an error getting the default device from the server, so picking one locally
All the hanged applications apparently are trying to get the default device or the UID of the default device. As the problem is in the audio, I believe is the audio device.
When I select an Input or Output audio device, this selection almost always is changed in the next time I open the System Preference Sound Pane.
I have a M-Audio Fast Track Pro audio interface but this problem occurs with all audio devices, not only with the M-Audio.
Does anybody knows what is causing this error?
    Thank you,
    Lorenzo

I gave up and reinstalled Mountain Lion from scratch. Of course, the problem is gone ...
    Best Regards,
    Lorenzo

  • Java Web Start Application surprisedly does not start anymore based on new JRE1.7.0_45

    Hi everyone,
we have to maintain a self-developed Java Application which is running based on JRE1.5.0_51 (x64). Our recent client machines have JRE1.7.0_40 (x64 too) installed in addition to the mentioned (and needed) JRE1.5.0_51 (x64).
Everything was fine up to the point where we tried to install the newest JRE1.7.0_45 (x64) as the new version for doing the web start magic. The result is that our application (which is/was unchanged!) does not launch anymore. The strange thing is that we do not get any StackTrace, Exception or something else like this.
The startup process simply hangs :-(
Nothing has changed (application itself, firewall, network settings, hardware) apart from the new JRE version. It's reproducible at will. If I install JRE1.7.0_40 (x64) the application starts, if I install JRE1.7.0_45 (x64) the application hangs.
I can say for sure, that in both cases (*_40 AND *_45) Web Start is able to do the synchronizing job and to launch the application base on the correct JRE1.5.0_51 (x64).
My guess is that in case of an installed JRE1.7.0_45 (x64), the application hangs when it tries to connect to the database (Oracle 11g) via JDBC.
I found a little hint in the Web Start Console. Therefore I had to switch the trace level of the console to 3 (which includes security, network and basic)
In case of an installed JRE1.7.0_40 (x64) - which leads to a running application - I will receive the following output:

These last "network:" log entries will never stop. This will lead to an infinite loop which results in a great memory leak. I have to kill the process via windows task manager in order to get rid of it.
Does someone out there has the same problem? Are there any new additional security issues which prevent my client to establish the database connection on port 1521?
    Any other ideas?
Thanks in advance for any hint on this issue!
    Regards,
    Alex

Resolution: We still were not able to solve this issue! The only way to get out of this is to install the JRE1.5 as the x64 variant. In this case no switching from 64-bit to 32-bit is needed and everything is on track again.
But this is still strange and unexplainable :-(

  • M500 120 GB mSATA hanging/crashing Windows 8.1 Ent after 1 year of use

Hi, I purchased a M500 120GB mSATA disk June '14 from Amazon, and installed it in my Sony Vaio T-Series laptop.
I have been using it ever since and it has been fine and speedy.
Since last week, I noticed my laptop started hanging applications and then crashing without reason.
At first I thought about some Windows update, since I did not install any application recently. I formatted and reinstalled Windows 8.1 ENT and then Windows 7 Professional and in all cases, I noticed that it would install fine, but after sometime, during normal operations, some random application ie Word, Excel, Google Chrome, IE, would hang by itself, and would not come back. The mouse pointer is showing the busy (spinning wheel) sign as well. Eventually, after much waiting, I would have to manually reset the laptop and then it would be fine again, until this starts again. Eventually I installed Windows 8.1 Ent on my HDD and everything went away. Yesterday, after doing some reading, I installed and ran CrystalDiskInfo and it says that my disk is 98% good. I dont understand the other parameters returned by the SMART function. I am attaching a screenshot here and hoping someone can diagnose it for me.

Looking at SMART values I would say the drive is completely healthy. After clean OS install did you install any chipset and storage drivers? What is the exact model of your Vaio?
