JPEG Imports Fail – What now?

When importing certain JPEG files, I get an error message, “The following file could not be imported (the import failed).” Or sometimes “(it may be an unrecognized file type or the files may not contain valid data).” These are not specifically photos, but art that has been saved with the .jpg file extension via Photoshop. Oddly enough, some of the JPEGs that have been saved via Photoshop import just fine into iPhoto. Anyone have any idea what the problem could be causing this? Thanks for any and all help.

Jeff:
You might try running Resize! on those bad apples (yes, pun intended) to create new jpg files, full sized and max quality, to see if those will import OK.
Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • Full restore from Time Machine fails what now!

Just upgraded to 10.8 and all was fine except on crucial pice of software that was supposed to work in 10.8 but didn't.
I tried to revert back to 10.6 via full restore but it failed. Now I just tried to restore from TM backup of the 10.8 restore point.
It fails too. All my HDs check out fine. What went wrong and how can I get back to working?

When I try to run a full restore from Time Machine it comes up with an error saying the restore failed. No useful information like codes or reasons are given.
It's possible that as the HD was failing, it corrupted something in your installation of OSX, and that was backed-up, so when you restore it, you're restoring damaged items.
Try again, but pick an earlier backup, from before the problems started.
When you do, once it starts, select Window, then +Show Log+ and +Show All logs+ from the menubar. Watch the messages; if it fails again, note what it says. That will tell us, roughly, where it was, so we may be able to avoid it.
Currently I have 10.5.0 installed. I have to install 10.4, then upgrade, which is a very lengthy process.
Huh? Why would you install Tiger?
How should I proceed? Is there a way of repairing the backup?
    Possibly, depending on what's wrong.
Instead of selecting +Restore System from Backup+ from the Utilities menu, select +Disk Utility+ and use it to do a +*Repair Disk+* on the backups (via your Leopard Install disc). Then quit DU and try +Restore System from Backups.+
I have no way of using the Migration feature since I only have the one Mac.
Yes, you do, if the backups are ok. You can use +Setup Assistant+ or +Migration Assistant+ from your backups (or a clone), not just another Mac. But they both only use the most recent backup, which may be damaged, so try the full restore first.

  • Dka790gx: liveupdate bios failed, what now

Hey guys, little did i know, but this shay company gave me software that failed to perform its task. The bios update went fun through liveupdate in windows, but when it rebooted it told me the  checksum failed  and now it wont boot into windows. I came here and read about a usb update utility, but it wont let me use it on a secondary computer to ready the update, nor can i get into windows to do it on the computer with the bad bios. Im stuck and a little frustrated, and would like some help from people who might know. Thank you for reading this.

The tool won't run on non-MSI boards.
can still make a bootable usb stick, doesn't have to be made on an msi board
once done, unzip the downloaded bios to it, as it also includes the flashing util
boot from usb, and run the util manually
the following link will let you download the software that will let you make a bootable usb device, no matter what motherboard you use  USB Tool

  • JPEG import fail?

Scanned two photos to Tiff files, worked on them in PSE 8, and then also saved as JPEGs via Preview. This on a Snow Leopard 10.6.5 disk. Imported the folder with the four into iPhoto 6 on the SL drive.
The Tiff files are fine, but the Preview created JPEGs show up in iPhoto as black rectangles. Click on one to edit and you see a high contrast dim photo.
The original scans were to black and white.
Took the same folder over to my Tiger Disk and they imported and show up just fine in iPhoto 6 there.
Was it the HP scan to B&W. PSE 8 cleanup? Or Preview save as?

    LN
    Thank you.
I had run into this problem once before some time ago and couldn't remember what or why. This may have been the first time I scanned a photo directly to a B&W (Grayscale) TIFF. Removes too many options working in PSE.
I'm curious because the JPEGs worked in iPhoto 6 on my Tiger drive (same photo files) but not on iPhoto 6 on the Snow Leopard drive (upgraded from Tiger maintaining apps and files).
Here's the chain. Photo HP scanned to Gray scale TIFF on SL drive. File edited in PSE 8 on SL and saved as as two different PSE TIF files. TIF files saved as JPEGs in SL Preview. Four files imported in iPhoto 6 SL.
Again, I buy your explanation, just curious about difference between iPhoto 6 on Tiger and SL, working with the same exact files.

    Jerry:
have tried (3 or more times) to do a "clean install" (OS 10.3.9, on a Power PC G3 iMac), and it keeps failing. Errror message:
What do you mean by a clean install? Did you completely erase and reformat the HDD and then attempted to install? If not, what exactly did you do?
Verify/Repair failed with error -9972 (The underlying task reported failure on exit)
This is a directory error which you will get only when you attempt to Repair or Verify disk in Disk Utility. It is not an installation error. The error you get is telling you that the directory is badly messed up. Error -9972 is a serious directory corruption error which may be hardware or software based. As a result Disk Warrior may or may not be able to repair your HDD. In some cases it is the result of a failing or failed internal HDD. See Disk Utility reports "Underlying task reported failure" when repairing a volume.
Rather than put out money to purchase Disk Warrior, which may or may not work for you, first be sure that you have your data backed up. Then reformat and erase the HDD as per directions below:
Warning! This procedure will destroy all data on your Hard Disk Drive. Be sure you have an up-to-date, tested backup of at least your Users folder and any third party applications you do not want to re-install before attempting this procedure.
    • With computer shut down insert install disk in optical drive.
    • Hit Power button and immediately after chime hold down the "C" key.
    • Select language
    • Go to the Installer menu (Panther & earlier) and launch Disk Utility.
    • Select your HDD (manufacturer ID) in left side bar.
    • Select Partition tab in main panel. (You are about to create a single partition volume.)
    • Select number of partitions in pull-down menu above Volume diagram.
(Note 1: One partition is normally preferable for an internal HDD.)
    • Type in name in Name field (usually Macintosh HD)
    • Select Volume Format as Mac OS Extended (Journaled)
    • Click Partition button at bottom of panel.
    • Select Erase tab
    • Select the sub-volume (indented) under Manufacturer ID (usually Macintosh HD).
    • Check to be sure your Volume Name and Volume Format are correct.
    • Click Erase button
    • Quit Disk Utility.
If you are able to get this far, you may now launch the Installer and proceed with the installation. If you would like step by step directions, please post back and ask.

  • I have an iMac G4 PowerPC with OS 10.5.? The OS10.5.8 update failed. Now get blue screen and error-can't find Intel Power Manager. What now??

I have an iMac G4 PowerPC with OS 10.5.? After deleting 17G of music files to make room on the 74G drive, The iPhoto and iWeb updates seemed to load okay, but the OS 10.5.8 update failed - message opened said the computer encountered an error and must shut down. Now I get the blue screen. Startup with 'V' pressed shows multiple lines saying: error-can't find IntelCPU Power Manager. What now?? I  reset PRAM, I think.....?????

I am concerned that you might have applied a system updated intended for an Intel iMac, while you have a PPC (non-Intel) iMac. Your PPC OS should not be looking for an "IntelCPU Power Manager."
Have you tried booting from the 10.5 install DVD/CD and repairing the hard drive, plus repairing permissions?
If you done the repairs mentioned above, and your problem still persists, you can also try doing a safe boot. (see http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1455 ) Then, if none of these things worked, if I were in your shoes (it's hard to diagnose these things without being there in person) I would first check that there is adequate disk space, then I would boot from the 10.5 DVD/CD install disk and reinstall the operating system. There is an option to do an archive and install preserving user files/settings, that would be the option you want, as it will save your files but install a new OS. Make sure you have a good backup of your files first. If you do not have one, use "target mode" to copy all your files before embarking on an new OS install. Assuming that you do succeed with this install, then use Software Update to get the right updates for your iMac.

The D610 didn't get out-of-the-box RAW support until Photoshop CC.
You can either upgrade to CC or use the DNG Converter to convert and open your DNGs in CS5.

Help.I uninstalled ios8 using the directions on the web site and now all my apps, mail are gone.I backed up to iTunes first but when I try to sync to get everything back,it starts and then says it has failed. What do I do now.Thanks.Jane

The first time an iPhone is connected to iTunes that is used to sync with another iPhone or iOS device, you are prompted to transfer the backup for the other iPhone or iOS device or to set up the iPhone as a new iPhone.
The former does as provided - it transfers the backup for the other iPhone or iOS device to the iPhone replacing all data on the iPhone that is included with the backup being transferred. The latter does nothing allowing you to make your various selections for the iPhone sync preferences with iTunes.
This is designed to be done right away with a new iPhone.
If you don't have a backup for the iPhone with iTunes on your computer and don't have an iCloud backup that hasn't been updated since choosing to transfer the backup for your iPod Touch to the iPhone, the data that was on the iPhone is gone.

  • What now? I got repair failed  "Keys out of order" and "Invalid extent entry"

What now? I tried to verify & then repair disk and I got "repair failed"  "Keys out of order" and "Invalid extent entry"

You've booted from your OS installer disk, ran Repair Disk from Disk Utility? If so then you need a stronger disk repair utility like DiskWarrier to rebuild the directory.
    BTW, update your profile information.

I'm trying to figure out the best file format / compression for importing images into iBA. Also, does anyone know how iBA will compress the file? Bought books and cannot download in my tablet. Got message:  import failed (E_ADEPT_NO_TAKEN)  What does that mean and what xan I do to get my books?  I DID DOWNLOAD ADOBE DIGITAL EDITIONS.

Update - this appears to be some kind of error with Google Chrome browser on Android.  A work-round that worked for me was to download Firefox, uninstall Aldiko then reinstall it via Firefox and Google play (accessed via Firefox not through the app) then re-authorise my device.  When I logged onto the library ebook service, via Firefox, I was able to download books fine.  Thought this might help anybody else getting the same error message.
