JRE  Detection in Internet Explorer

Hi All,
How can I detect the JRE version installed using Internet Explorer?. What if the the JRE is not installed,and so detect the default VM in Internet Explorer ?. I went though many articles, and looks like there is no standard way?. For Firefox navigator.mimeTypes() can solve it but for Internet Explorer it does not work as I see,and which has been given in articles too. So finally what's the best solution to detect Java in Internet Explorer? Is it VBScript OR using applet which returns version/vendor?.
Regards
Nitin

  • JRE checkbox in Internet Explorer have to be selected?

    Hi,
         We are going live with one company and we have the doubt if is necesary to have selected the checkbox JRE in the Internet Explorer (Tools -> Internet Options -> Advanced tab -> Java options -> Use JRE 1.6....) do I have to select that checkbox or is not necesary for the functionality in the portal? What is the function about this checkbox? for what is needed??
    Thanks for the help!!
    Carlos

    Hi Carlos,
    Paul is correct: as long as you don't use portal applications that need a local client installed, the portal offers a zero footprint access to SAP. Besides a browser you don't need anything installed on your client to access the portal pages and applications.

  • Outdated Browser Detected, Update Internet Explorer Warning

    Hello,
    I still got the Outdated Browser message in Safari and Firefox and any browser, even in MY IPHONE 5! :S I can't access to webpages like Facebook, google, youtube, yahoo, because I got this "warning message" :S
    I've tried:
    1) Reset Safari
    2) Clear Cookies
    3) Run Avira, ClamXav, Bitdefender
    4) Dissable Java
    5) Stop all the extension
    6) I tried to changed the DNS to 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4
    7) Uninstall Firefox
    But problem still not solve..
    Somebody solved this problem? Any other ways that I can try? thanks

    This almost has to be a corrupt local network caused by your router being hacked.
    Please list the make and model of your router and whether you purchased it or rent it from your ISP. Many routers have been hacked remotely either because they still have a well known default loginID & password or because the firmware contains a vulnerable back-door. You need to make sure that such firmware is updated and if necessary WAN configuration is disabled (many ISP's don't allow that).
    If you know how to log on, check the DNS settings, otherwise come back here with the above info and perhaps we can try to walk you through it.

  • How to use multiple JREs (1.5.0_20 and 1.6.0_07) with Internet Explorer 8?

    Hi!
    Question about the problem mentioned in subject.
    I have configured that JNLP opens with 1.5 version, both versions are enabled in Java Control Panel Runtime Settings but when I try to start a desktop java console says:
    Java Web Start 1.5.0_22
    Using JRE version 1.6.0_07 Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM
    And the opening of the desktop creates an exception:
    Java Web Start - Invalid Argument Error
    TooManyArgumentsException[ Too many arguments supplied: {C:\WINDOWS\Temporary, Internet, Files\Content.IE5\....
    I'm trying to open my desktop with 1.5 version and other programs with 1.6 version. What is it that I still need to do? I'm kind of confused with this. Some of my collagues have succeeded with this and some doesn't, with the same configuration.
    So the question is, how to use multiple JREs with IE8 so that one application uses 1.5 version and others 1.6 version?

    Once you can come up with an actual question, I might look at this more closely.

  • I have win 7 pro and the download for jre 7u10 does not work on Firefox17, I have installed and uninstalled, but works on internet explorer.

    I have uninstalled jre7u10, the latest version of java, and re-installed this several times and it will NOT work on Firefox 17. I have checked that the plugins are downloaded in the add-ons tab and made sure they are Enabled. I have tried disabling every plugin I have on the page, but it still will NOT run on FF 17. So, I have uninstalled jre7u10 in windows control panel. I got the jre7u10 download for windows 7 from the actual java website.
    I don't know what else to do. I am totally confused as to why it works on Internet explorer but not Firefox 17. It gives me an error message on a chat window on one of my sites that says error client class not found, But I DON'T get this error when I use Internet explorer because the chat window works with it. HELP PLEASE ???????????
    I am not that good with computers so take it easy on me please.
    Thanks in advance

    I questioned that 64 bit version thing and when I checked the download it sent me to the java version 32 bit for windows 7. The download of jre 32 bit works for my computer on internet explorer but not for firefox 17. I also checked firefox and there is not a 64 bit version browser. so I don't get this at all. anyway, I don't know what a 64 bit vs a 32 bit means but someone asked me to check that too on the site I went to they thought it might be different browser. It's not.

  • Applet failed to load in Internet Explorer when using JRE 1.5 update 5

    I have downloaded JRE 1.5 Update 5 and checked the relevant checkbox in Internet Explorer Advanced tab to use JRE 1.5 for applets. Did the same in Java Control Panel. However none of the applets seem to load.
    For example I went to this site:
    http://java.com/en/download/help/testvm.xml
    The applet didn't load and I got the following error in my Sun Java Console :

  • No per user setting for JRE in Internet Explorer on W2K/W2K3 term. server

    After installing Sun Java SE on terminal servers (both 2000 &
    2003) you have an additional option within Internet Explorer 5.5 & 6.x under tools, intenet options, advanced; called "Java (Sun) Use JRE
    XXX (applet) requires restart". This option cannot be set on a per user base. When a user changes this setting, it is changed for ALL terminal server users immediately. This is a big problem.
    It should be able to set this on a per user base.
    Current key is located at: HLKM\SOFWTARE\Microsoft\Internet
    Explorer\AdvancedOptions\JAVA_SUN\SELECT
    As some websites require Sun_Java and others won't work at all
    when the Sun Java options is selected each user should be able
    to select or disable this option on a per user base.
    How can we accomplish this?

    Hello. Sorry, don't have an answer for your issue. Just wondering whether you've experienced this issue in your Windows Server 2003 envionmnet.
    We're running Windows 2000 Server (SP4) (and Citrix Presentation Server 4.0). We typically have 20+ concurrent users logged on to a server. Since JRE 1.5.0_7, we've had issues with Internet Explorer taking upwards of 15 seconds to display even though Iexplore.exe appears in Task Manager almost immediately. If we uninstall JRE 1.5.0_7 and use 1.4.2_6, Internet Explorers displays fine. We've tried JRE 1.5.0_11 and 1.6.0_3, and Internet displays slowly. Has anyone else experienced this issue? Any thoughts of why this is occuring? Thanks.

  • Applets Crashing Internet Explorer on Windows XP with JRE 1.4.0 Final

    I have recently installed the 1.4.0Final JRE, and have found that upon arriving at a page with an applet on internet explorer explorer crashes. Where as under the JRE 1.3.1_02 it does not.
    I am running Windows XP, and cannot remember the exact error message I get, however it is something about an error occuring within iexplorer.exe
    Any help appreciated.

    I have the same symptom on Windows 2000 (SP2) using Internet Explorer 5.00. Replacing the IE JVM with J2SE 1.4 causes IE to crash when I visit java.sun.com.
    I am filing a bug with the JDC Bug Parade, but I am surprised that this has not been more widely reported, since I think I have a common system configuration.

  • Internet Explorer JApplet hang close intermittent jre 1.4.1

    I've browsed several similar topics here. So let me add my problem.
    The environment is Internet Explorer 6.0 and the JRE release is 1.4.1. I have an applet that will either put up a JDialog subclass or an instance of a JOptionPane (for errors and warnings). Sometimes the browser closes fine on close (x button in top right of frame). Sometimes it hangs. I am not sure if destroy is ever getting invoked when it hangs as I tried putting a System.out.println() in and never saw the output. When it closes properly I do briefly see the outputs in the jre plugin window. Another similarity to other posts is this applet uses sockets (mySQL) and the destroy method is where I close the connection. Other posts claim using sockets for one thing or another, so that may be a culprit. Oddly, I have not seen posts that reference previous versions of the JRE so I am guessing maybe it's a problem with the 1.4.1 JRE? It's a wild shot but I am trying to ascertain commonality amoung all the similar posts. There doesn't seem to be a difference in being a signed jar or not. I can supply further info to anyone who might have an idea. Also, I can not reliably reproduce.
    Thanks,
    Walt

    Maybe the problem with the applet is that you are using the same instances of JPanels and JComponents in the Applet each time you intialize it. I had this problem, because I was reusing the panels to reduce the load time to generate them, but the problem was that when I did this, I couldn't write in a JTextField of this panels, and when I try to close the IE window after trying to write in a JTextField, the IE crashed.
    Maybe it isn't your problem, but it may help.

  • Auto detection and installation of QT in Internet Explorer?

    I am hoping to find a method to use in Internet Explorer for Windows to check for QuickTime, and if it's not present, to download and install it with minimal user interaction.
    Flash, Shockwave, Java, and others have methods that make it very easy for end-users to view content that requires additional software.
    Is there such a method for QuickTime? I've come across the myriad QuickTime detection scripts, but I'm looking for something that will download and install QuickTime, not just tell the user what they need.
    Any pointers?
    Thanks in advance!
    12" 1.5ghz PowerBook G4  Mac OS X (10.4.7)   1.25 GB RAM

    Using javascripts to detect installed version of QuickTime Player is a black art at best and they require constant revisions and tweaking.
    Installing software must be done by the end user. This is just basic security issues.
    An easier way would use a special "intro" page to your site or a simple "can you see this?" file that is displayed via the QuickTime plug-in. An image file saved as a QuickTime .mov file would be fine.
    Viewers that can't "see it" would be instructed to the QuickTime download page using some text and a link.

  • Internet Explorer 9 and higher not visible in detected software

    Why is Windows Internet Explorer 8 the only version that is being detected by Intune?
    Any higher version like 9,10 or 11 is not being detected in the Detected Software overview.
    How am I suppost to check which version is installed?

    I know this is very old but I’m trying to clean up old posts. Did you ever solve this? If so it would be good if you could post the solution to assist others. If not, at this
    stage, as nobody has answered, I would recommend that you call Intune support if the issue still exists.
    You will find your local Intune support number here

  • Java Plugin Detection using VBScript on Internet Explorer

    Hi,
    I need a way to detect when the plugin version is above a certain version number (such as 1.4.1 or higher) so that I can give the user some extra info as to what is happening when the plugin is downloading automatically on Internet Explorer. Something like :-
    "Please wait for Java plugin to download"
    At present there is a long delay when the user may not know what is happening as no info is relayed back to user.
    I know that the presence of the plugin can be detected using vbscript but not with JavaScript but how do i determine that the user has 1.4.1 or higher. I use the following code:
    <script language="vbscript">
    If IsObject(CreateObject("JavaPlugin"))=True Then
    document.writeln("some info to user")
    End If
    </script>
    This tells me if a JavaPlugin is installed but not what version so we still dont know whether the applet will run or the plugin will download.
    I have also tried:
    <script language="vbscript">
    If IsObject(CreateObject("JavaPlugin.141"))=True Then
    document.writeln("some info to user")
    End If
    </script>
    this works but what if the user already has a version greater than 1.4.1 this is not detected and a nonsense message saying that the Java plugin is downloading is displayed.
    Any ideas?

    Here's JavaPlugin detection for netscape and ie using JavaScript . . .
    Throw this in a .js file and source it at the start of you html.
    function detectPlugin() {
         var thePlugins = detectPlugin.arguments;     // allow for multiple checks in a single pass
         var pluginFound = false;               // consider pluginFound to be false until proven true
         // if plugins array is there and not fake
         if (navigator.plugins && navigator.plugins.length > 0) {
    var pluginsArrayLength = navigator.plugins.length;
              // for each plugin loop through all desired names and check each against the current plugin name
    for (pluginsArrayCounter=0; pluginsArrayCounter < pluginsArrayLength; pluginsArrayCounter++ ) {
    var numFound = 0;
    for(namesCounter=0; namesCounter < thePlugins.length; namesCounter++) {
                        // if desired plugin name is found in either plugin name or description     the pluginFound
    if( (navigator.plugins[pluginsArrayCounter].name.indexOf(thePlugins[namesCounter]) >= 0) || (navigator.plugins[pluginsArrayCounter].description.indexOf(thePlugins[namesCounter]) >= 0) ) {
    numFound++;
                   // now that we have checked all the required names against this one plugin,
                   // if the number we found matches the total number provided then we were successful
    if(numFound == thePlugins.length) {
    pluginFound = true;
                        // if we've found the plugin, we can stop looking through at the rest of the plugins
    break;
    return pluginFound;
    function noJavaPlugin(){
    window.open("http://plugin_location");
    function redirect_users(URL){
    location.href = URL;
    if(navigator){
    browser_string = navigator.appVersion + " " + navigator.userAgent;
    if (browser_string.indexOf("MSIE")>=0) {
              document.write(' <object classid="clsid:8AD9C840-044E-11D1-B3E9-00805F499D93"');
              document.write(' CODEBASE="javascript:noJavaPlugin()" width=1 height=1>');
              document.write(' <param name="type" value="application/x-java-applet;version=1.4">');
              document.write(' <param name="cache_option" value="Plugin">');

  • Uncheck'Automatically detect settings' in Internet Explorer

    Hi All
    How to Uncheck 'Automatically detect settings' option in internet explorer using VBScript???

    You can set this in the registry, using batch or vbscript:
    HKCU/Software/Microsoft/Windows/CurrentVersion/Internet Settings/Connections/DefaultConnectionSettings
    The 9th Byte should be changed to 09, this sets the checkbox to automatically detect settings.
    I have used this to switch back between my auto-configuration script and automatically detect settings. If fast switching is what you are after I would use this approach, if you want to manage multiple computer, just push it via group policy.
