JRE for x64 OS

Hello,
Is there any official announcement about the supported version of JRE for x64 OS? When I install JRE1.4.2_29 on my Win 7 x64, it shows a warning message about supported OS. However, after installing the JRE, my java applet works fine.
Regards,
Hung

Here is the list of supported platforms for 1.4.2, this is the official document:
[http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javase/system-configurations-139862.html|http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javase/system-configurations-139862.html]
Java SE versions may work on other platforms that are not listed on a supported configuration document. Supported means supported..... tested, and officially supported by the Oracle support configurations.

  • PKCS#11 support for x64 Windows

    Hi All,
I'm trying to discover the truth (aren't we all?) Can anyone confirm what the current (and future) support for PKCS#11 for x64 Windows system is? Looking around, it appears I might be out of luck, but I'm hoping more of you might have discovered stuff I haven't?
I understand that there ARE definately providers for other platforms (which kinda defeats the platform independancy of Java doesn't it?) but I
'm not running other platforms (well apart from x86 Windows which is fine).
    Thanks in advance,
    Tim.

I have the same problem. The problem with the AMD 64 bit Windows downloads (both JRE and JDK) is that the file j2pkcs11.dll is missing from the build. It is present in other releases but not this one. Does anyone know where this file can be obtained?

  • Dynamically adding JRE for IE, Java Security Warnings, & Next Gen Plugin.

I wrote an portal application to control the environment for a third party application, the portal uses a JRE version that I supply with it, this was to ensure that users are using the same JRE so any issues can be limited to one version of Java. The only piece of the application that I could not specify the JRE version and path was for Internet Explorer. Please keep in mind that I do not control when the system JRE is updated or not, this is pushed to our systems and the latest JRE would be enabled automatically. I wanted to be able to dynamically add and enable the version of the JRE that Microsoft Internet Explorer uses for applets. So I was digging around recently and if I have the next-generation plugin enabled I could programmatically update the deployment.properties file prior to launching Internet Explorer(assuming I have closed all prior instances of IE that were running) to add and enable a version of the JRE which I choose to use. When I launch IE and run an applet I see that it is using the JRE I had dynamically supplied. However everytime I run the applet a Java security warning comes up saying "The application requires an earlier version of Java", I wanted to suppress this message but after research I tried adding 'deployment.security.mixcode=HIDE_RUN' to the deployment.properties, that did not work. I tried disabling the Next Generation Plugin, that worked to suppress the message however internet explorer was no longer using my dynamically supplied JRE for applets in IE, so that was not going to work for my purposes. My questions are:
    1. Is there a reliable way(not using ssvagent) to programmatically enable and disable Java's Next Generation Plugin option? (I want to make sure it is enabled when launching third party application from the portal)
    2. Is there a programmatic way to suppress the Java Security Warning "The application requires an earlier version of Java", without disabling Java's Next Generation Plugin option?

Note: The reason not to use most recent version of Java is the necessity to test the third party application prior to deployment of a new Java version and since I do not control when a new version of Java is deployed and enabled to our machines, I am required to find an transparent solution. I understand the security issues by doing so, but the time between testing and acceptance of a new Java version for our application is within an acceptable timeframe. On exiting the application, I would restore the JRE settings and restore previous settings, to minimize the exposure of a potential security risk. Also any manual configurations are trying to be avoided as to maintain transparency to the user.

I'm having a similar problem and I think it is related with this.
If, after a Java--->Javascript call, a Javascript--->Java call isn't made soon after the first, it works. But, if the Java--->Javascript call triggers a Javascript--->Java call, any Java--->Javascript call that is made after that doesn't reach Javascript :/
I have a method that handles the Java--->Javascript calls and goes something like this:
    System.out.println("Calling Javascript...");
    JSObject win = JSObject.getWindow(this);
    win.call(jsEventHandler, new Object[] { json.toString() });
System.out.println("Done.");I further found out that, after looking at the Java debug console in the scenario where a Java--->Javascript call triggers a Javascript--->Java call, only after this last method returns is the "Done" message printed, even though the respective Javascript call was already invoked.
Could you explain in more detail the queue based solution you found? Any other ideas?

  • Open letter to SUN to produce a  JRE for Pocket PC

To any SUN Employee dealing with Personal Java.
We realise you are currently under resourced in the development of J2ME but we implore you to release a commercially viable JRE for ARM Pocket PC - even just that age old Personal Java 2001 variant in a finalized commerical build.
We cannot use your Personal Java beta implementation in a commericial environment (so says your license) and the it is serverely stunting the growth of Java in this area.
Due to lack of adequate Java support for ARM Pocket PC a large number of developers are losing faith in this technology on this platform and moving to rival technologies. Do you really want this to happen and for an already monopolistic rival to get a good foot hold in an area in which Java should flurish?
Anybody who reads this and feels as strongly about the lack of JRE please sign this and add a comment - maybe we can get the SUN to sit up and take notice.

Well its on Slashdot now and in a newsgroup. If anyone has suggestions how we can get the attention of the people that make the decisions please tell me!
This is an email I sent to the personaljava support email ([email protected]):
Please see this post - its going to get bigger now this article is on it (Slashdot):

Slashdot and a new JRE for PocketPC
We need a free finalised J2ME or PersonalJava JRE for PocketPC - Microsoft has the ability to runaway on an expanding market with no competition - posts here should prove that developers are already moving in droves to .NET. Isn't this Java's forte, mobile devices?
If you have any sway with the higher ups in Sun who can dedicate resources (or indeed yourself) please pass on this email. This is one market where Java really should get a good hold - inheriting by design.

  • PDF iFilter 11.0.01 for x64 is not usable

I use Traditional Chinese Windows 7 x64 Home Premium SP1 and Adobe Reader 11.0.02.
I don't use the "Windows Search" service and have disabled it.
Today I un-installed the old Adobe PDF iFilter 9 for x64 (from Programs and Features), restarted my PC and installed the latest PDF iFilter 11.0.01 for x64. Also, after installation, I appended to the PATH environment variable, correctly, the full path of the bin sub-folder under this new iFilter's default installation folder, i.e., C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe PDF iFilter 11 for 64-bit platforms\bin .
Now, in Windows Explorer, when I do a search from the serach box (at the upper righthand corner), with the syntax content:<search keyword>, no result is returned from any PDF file when I do know the <search keyword> is contained in some PDF files in the folder.
Another bad thing... I have a file searching utility called "FileSeek 3.0", which was released in April this year.  After the installation of iFilter 11.0.01, now it hangs when searching PDF files.
There was no problem before today, when iFilter 9 was used.
So, anything wrong with the 11.0.01 iFilter? Or I missed something?

I have the same problem for a couple of months, and I had to use a plug-in in Firefox to print a web page. I really need the web page address in the footer for reference purposes which Chrome print (Ctrl+P) does not produce.
The error message is: A supported version of Acrobat could not be found. Please install or update Acrobat to 11.0.9 or higher."
After updating to Acrobat 11.0.10 and repairing the installation the problem did not go away.
Deleting and re-installing the extension did not help either.

    Hi MonsterMMORPG,
I made a mistake in my previous reply. What I suggested is that you created a new and simple WPF app, set the platform to
x64 rather than x86, and then build the app to check the result.
If a new WPF app also has this issue, then I doubt whether this issue is related to your VS.

  • Oracle forms 10g 32bit with Oracle 10g database on windows itanium for x64

    Hi.....
Currently we are planning to have this configuration
    1. Oracle10g RAC on HP rx6600 with windows itanium for x64 architecture
    2. Oracle Application Server (32-bit) on windows 2003 (forms & reports services)
    3. Application migrated from 6i to 10g
I have to things to ask about?
1.Will it be ok to connect from an application compiled with _(32-bit)_ 10g forms to a x64_ platform without problems ?
    2. Can we connect forms and reports of developer 6i +(32-bit)+ to 10g RAC on x64_ platform if the character set is not UTF8 ?

1.Will it be ok to connect from an application compiled with (32-bit) 10g forms to a x64 platform without problems ?I did this also. A 32bit Oracle Form(10gR2) on Linux and a 64 bit (10gR2) database. And this works without a problem. Since you didn't mentioned your versions I would suggest you look for your combination if it is certified combination.
    2. Can we connect forms and reports of developer 6i (32-bit) to 10g RAC on x64 platform if the character set is not UTF8 ?I don't know if the combination is certified. But regarding your character set, you have a character set setting (NLS_LANG, DEVELOPER_LANG, etc.. ) for your developer 6i, your database has it's own character set. Depending on those setting a conversion of the character set will take place between your developer 6i and the database, when you get and put data to the database. But like I said I don't know if developer 6i and 10g is still a supported combination.

  • Is there a Oracle 9.2 version for X64 bit platform

    Hello!!
I have X64 bit machine with Windows 2003 server enterprise x64 edition installed.
Is there a Oracle 9.2 version which I can install on this machine?
In the site I found the Oracle 9.2 version for IA64.
Could anyone give me any pointers as to where I can find Oracle 9.2 for x64 platform.
    thanks and regards,
    Sandeep

    Hi,
currently you only can install 9.2 32bit (Patch Set 9.2.0.3.0 or higher is required) on this platform. Pure 64bit software is only available for Itanium and EMD64/AMD64 architectures. I don't know if there are any plans to change that.

  • Which JRE for Windows XP?

I have to choose the JRE version which will installed as the default JRE on thousands of XP sp2 pc's. This JRE will also be the default JRE for Internet Explorer - the one called when the APPLET tag is used.
Up until now we have used the Microsoft JVM as the default for Internet Explorer and a SUN JRE version 1.4.1_02 as the default JRE on our NT machines.
Can anyone recommend a very stable, reliable JRE for Windows XP sp2? Once installed it will probably be used for years as the default JRE although other JRE's will be installed on the system also.

Its a bad idea to use a platform like java for several years, I would at least upgrade every 1-2 years. Java provides a silent installation mode for this, so no interaction of the user is required at all.
as I sugested I would use the latest 1.4.2_latest if you need something rock-solid or 1.5.0_latest if you want the latest features. However I know many people having problems with 1.5.0+applets, starting with crashing browsers to long load-times because sun's cup animation eats up the whole CPU which is needed for class-loading!

  • [SOLVED]Building UEFI (EDK II) for x64 platform

    HI,
I am trying to build the EDK II source for an x86 platform. I am carrying out the following steps from the release notes for Unix Systems. My OS is Linux 2.6.32
    ===============================================================================
                             HOW TO BUILD (UNIX-LIKE SYSTEM)
    ================================================================================
    Unix-Like System Configuration:
      DistributorID: Ubuntu
      Description:   Ubuntu 9.10
      Release:       Ubuntu 9.10
      Codename:      Karmic
    1.  Extract Common Source Code
        1)  Create a working space directory in the build machine, for example, ~/src/MyWorkspace
        2)  Extract files in [UDK2010.UP4] to the working space directory.
In this case, it is ~/src/MyWorkspace. There are two BaseTools package one
is for Windows system and another is for UNIX-Like system. Please make
            sure BaseTools(Unix).tar is used here.
        3)  Extract files in [P.UDK2010.UP4.Network] and copy the NetworkPkg Directory to the working
space directory. In this case, it is ~/src/MyWorkspace.
        4)  Extract files in [P.UDK2010.UP4.SourceDebugging] and copy the SourceDebuggingPkg Directory
to the working space directory. In this case, it is ~/src/MyWorkspace.
    3.  Generate OpenSSL* Crypto Library
        1)  Open file "~/src/MyWorkspace/CryptoPkg/Library/OpensslLib/Patch-HOWTO.txt"
and follow the instruction to install OpenSSL* for UEFI building.
    4.  Setup Build Environment
        1)  Follow instructions for setting up the build environment on tianocore.org.
            http://sourceforge.net/apps/mediawiki/t … ke_systems
            a) Please be noticed that here the root is "~/src/MyWorkspace" instead
               of "~/src/edk2"
            b) Follow the instructions for building GCC* for X64 and IA32 as well as
building the Intel ASL compiler. Some of these steps are listed under
               the <Enabling Other Tools> section.
            c) At last check again and make sure "BaseTools", "GCC* for IA32", "GCC*
for X64" and IASL compiler are successfully built out. Check if these
tools path defined in "Conf/tools_def.txt" are accordant with actual
               tools path especially for UNIXGCC_IA32_PETOOLS_PREFIX,
               UNIXGCC_X64_PETOOLS_PREFIX and UNIX_IASL_BIN.
    5.  Build Steps
        1)  Open a terminal and type "cd ~/src/MyWorkspace" to enter the workspace
            directory.
        2)  Initialize the build environment by typing ". edksetup.sh BaseTools".
        3)  Now type "build -t UNIXGCC -a IA32 -p Nt32Pkg/Nt32Pkg.dsc"
            to build the platform.
I am successful in executing the steps untill I run the last command which is 'build'. This instruction is from the link
http://sourceforge.net/apps/mediawiki/t … ke_systems (as pointed up above in step 4.1)
I get errors while running the command build.
    Could someone help?
    Regards!

  • Enabling all RAM for x64?

I have a HP Touchsmart tx2 1020us with 4GB of RAM.  The machine shipped with 4GB of RAM and Windows Vista x64.  I have recently upgraded to Windows 7 and it shows 4.00GB installed and 3.75GB usable.  I've been around the block with the 3.xGB memory barrier of 32-bit systems, so this looks awfully familiar.
I have a list of possibilites as to what could be causing the issue:
Shared Video Memory - certainly shouldn't be, as the system is advertised as having a 64MB graphics card.
Typical Windows 7 Behavior - not so.  I have another machine running windows 7, properly configured for x64 and it says 4GB installed and usable
BIOS not configured for x64 OS - could be, could not be.  The BIOS does not mention it at all.
Any new motherboard worth the silicon it's printed on, has a BIOS option to enable memory remapping (or it is called something similar) which will allow a x64 based OS to see and use all of the installed memory.  The BIOS on this HP, however, seems to give virtually no configuration options whatsoever.  It lists 4GB of memory being installed, but gives me no options to change or remap it.  With that being said, I have a list of questions:
    1.  If there is a way to enable memory remapping, such as a special key combo in the BIOS to unlock an advanced mode, what is it?
    2.  Since the system was sold with a 64 bit OS installed and 4GB of RAM, why was memory remapping not enabled from the factory?
    3.  If no memory remapping option is available, how will HP plan to answer a false advertising lawsuit for claiming that the system supports 8GB of memory?
There may be a very simple answer, but HP's knowledgebase is strangely mute on the subject.  I guess they just assume that most users won't know the difference.   If somebody knows how to enable all the memory, I would certainly appreciate your response.
    Thanks in advance!
Edit - I believe I have found the answer.  GPUz reports that the video card has 320MB of memory.  64MB + my missing 256MB = 320MB.  I really don't like shared video memory, but I guess that's just what I have to deal with.

That's a cool and straight forward answer. :smileyvery-happy:

    G'Day Raja,
I have had to load different JREs for my Mac vs my PC. I assume they have different native code components.
