[JS CS3/4] Export to JPG ok on PC, not on Mac

Hello,
with that simple routine, I can get a correct export on a PC but no file at all on a Mac.
Is that a know issue, something I do wrong ?
app.activeDocument.exportFile (ExportFormat.JPG, (new File(Folder.desktop+"/test.jpg")), false)
TIA Loic

Hi and thanks a lot for your input,
It worked.
It seems that the script didn't like I ask it to retrace the path to the desktop by itself. But if I convert the path info to a string it's ok.
This works :
app.activeDocument.exportFile(ExportFormat.JPG, (new File('~/Desktop/test.jpg')), false)
This too :
var myFilePath = String(Folder.desktop + '/test.jpg');
app.activeDocument.exportFile(ExportFormat.JPG, (new File(myFilePath )), false)
But that fails
app.activeDocument.exportFile(ExportFormat.JPG, (new File(Folder.desktop + '/test.jpg')), false)
Thanks a lot for your answer.

  • CS3: PDF-Export Transparency Issue when Image-Links are missing

    I have a Layout with a transparent Frame on the top most Layer. For this Workflow-Step I do not have access to the original Image-Links, so I guess that all I see are the embedded Preview-Pictures and InDesign reports that all Object-Links are missing.
    If I export this Layout as JPG, the resulting JPG looks like the WYSIWYG in InDesign, which is suitable for this workflow-step. However when I export as pdf, the Frame is not transparent anymore. Instead it is filled with white color and covers the rest of the Layout. In Adobe Reader I can actually select the wrongly covered Picture at the border of the frame and copy&paste it somewhere and it looks fine.
    When I provide the original Frame-Picture and repair the missing Link in InDesign, PDF-Export works fine.
    I have installed & updated InDesign on a new Mac OS X 10.4.11, so all settings should be default.
    Transparency Blend Space is set to CMYK. I tried all default PDF-Export Profiles and tried a lot of different settings in the pdf-export dialogue including different PDF-File-Versions, Simulate Overprint on/off, Color-Conversion disabled, disabling Picture-Compression and much more. I also tried to Print a PS-File and then use the Distiller: same result.
    I use Adobe InDesign CS3 V 5.0.2 and tried Adobe Reader 8.1.2 and Adobe Acrobat Pro 8 to display.
    Any Ideas?

    Transparency flattening REQUIRES having access to the high-resolution images to get good results. One of the slogans I teach printers is "Fatten before you flatten." Meaning, replace the low-res images with high-res images.

  • JPGs exported from Lightroom 5.6 will not open in other applications

    Recently I have noticed that jpgs exported from Lightroom 5.6 can not be opened in Canon DPP 3.14 and can not be resized using Image Resizer plugin. Both of these I use frequently.
    I have seen mention of this issue re other applications also. Does anyone know if there is a solution?
    I am using Windows 8.1 64bit. 5D Mark ii

    This was an issue with 5.5 (the placement of some of the internal headers of the jpgs was changed and some other applications, including DPP, could not open them), but was corrected in 5.6. I just checked on it by exporting a jpg and opening it with no problem in DPP 3.14.15, Windows 7 x64. Are your jpgs old ones from LR 5.5?

  • Can someone please help me getting my book pages to export as jpg's?

    I have a book created (LR4) and cannot get the pages to export as jpg's. I hit the "export book to jpg" button and nothing happens. Does anyone know what the problem could be? I am using a Macbook. Any idea's or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you!

    Thank you Dorin for your reply. I am using LR4.2...
    If you have any other thoughts of how to fix the issue, I would be most grateful.

  • BUG: Indesign CC 2014 - significant image artifacts with 'export as JPG'

    Issue
    Spreads exported from InDesign as maximum quality JPGs have heavy artifacts not present in PDF's with equivalent image compression settings.
    Steps
    Export spread to JPG (max, baseline, 300ppi)
    Export spread to PDF (image compression set to JPG, maximum)
    Compare both files in Photoshop at 100%
    Results
    Maximum quality JPGs are significantly artifacted.
    Expected Results
    Maximum quality JPGs should be identical to PDF images with equivalent image compression settings (and should be virtually indistinguishable from original files sized equivalently in Photoshop (and saved via Photoshop's 'Save for Web').
    Please Note
    I'm very familiar with the limitations of JPG's in pre-press work. Please trust that I have legitimate reasons for needing InDesign to export spreads as JPGs with the same image quality as is possible when exporting as a PDF (or using Photoshop's 'Save For Web' function with the source file sized identically as the spread in question.)
    Samples
    exhibit A: spread exported as PDF (compression set to JPG, maximum quality)
    exhibit B: spread exported as JPG (maximum quality)

    Rob,
    Thank you for running your test!
    Since posting (and just before reading your reply), I discovered an additional constraint on replicating the issue:
    –it only appears when the linked image has been upscaled* (in my example, 107.1%)
         *keep in mind, the PDF was upscaled to the same degree, ruling out it being solely an upscaling issue
    –testing at 'even-magnification' scales (i.e. 150%) simply resulted in increased pixelation compared to the same PDF export (see samples below)
    –testing at 'odd-magnification' scales (i.e. 101%) generated random artifacts (like those visible in the samples of my initial post)
    –as such, this is likely more of a resampling/aliasing issue than jpg-artifacting.
    That is, it would seem that upscaled images seem to enjoy a higher-quality resampling method when exported as PDFs.
    I'd be curious to see how your test fared with upscaled images.
    samples
    image scaled at 150%, exported as PDF (compression set to JPG, maximum quality)
    image scaled at 150%, exported as JPG (maximum quality, anti-alias**)
         **tested with & without anti-aliasing, results were identical

  • Batch change dpi from 72 to 300 and export as jpg

    Hi All,
    I have searched high and low, and have yet to find a script that will accomplish this task. I am in need of a script that will change Illustrator's default 72 dpi, to 300 dpi so I can print a series of (about 200) respectable looking images. They also need to be exported to jpg.
    Is this possible to do in batch?
    I have tried countless approaches. The closest I have come is using Graphic Converter Pro, unfortunately it cannot change the dpi from 72 to 300 (as far as I could tell). Any help is greatly appreciated. I have access to Mac OS and Windows. I've been trying to tackle this for quite some time. Thank you!

    Hi, thanks for your responses. I do have Photoshop. What I am trying to do is take about 100 .ai files and export them to .jpg. However, they are going to be printed, and any sort of batch export as .jpg I have tried so far has resulted in substantial resolution (72 dpi). I am well aware of how to change the resolution for exporting each file individually, however what I want to do is batch the whole process together. I will try the resizing approach. Thanks both of you!

  • How can I save transparency/inner glow effects when exporting to jpg?

    I'm very new to InDesign. I increased the noise levels in inner glow in 'Effects' to create a textured look to my document (I wanted a paper texture and found this method on Google) but when I exported to pdf or jpg, I realized that my transparency effects completely disappeared. I checked my export settings and the flattening tool has been set to default.
    Can someone help me understand what I should do to export that textured effect please?
    Thank you!

    Export to JPG has never been all that great and stopped trying it a long
    time ago. Export to PDF and open that in Photoshop.

  • Lost CR files after exporting to jpg

    I seem to have lost many original CR files after import > developing > export as jpg.  I had made selects to develop and then output images as lower rez jpgs.  When I went back to the original folders (on an external hd) those CR select files were missing / a gap in the photo sequence now exists and I cannot locate the originals regardless of searches.  How is this possible?

    Lightroom does not delete your photos unless you specifically tell Lightroom to do so, and this wouldn't happen in an Export operation anyway.
    So I don't know how this is possible, but I'm pretty sure it can't be blamed on Lightroom
    You need to:
    1) check the Recycle bin; or if that doesn't work
    2) restore the photos from backups, or if you don't have backups (why not?); or if that doesn't work
    3) you can try to download something called an undelete utility and install it and see if it can find these photos (and if you are going to need this step, perform it immediately, do not do anything else on your computer)

  • Exporting to jpg

    Can anyone tell me why lately I have to export to JPG twice before I get any results. It's always worked until today. Sometimes I have to export three times to get any results, very frustrating.

    InDesign 6.0.3
    Mac OS 10.5.7
    2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
    4 GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM
    Exporting to a PDF then JPG isn't very efficient when I need to export 67+ JPGs, quality isn't really an issue because they're for the web/email. It's always worked fine until today, I did run/install the InDesign update that popped up last week sometime.

  • Exporting to JPG, but then Editing Again

    I edited my .NEFs (RAW) and then exported them to JPG for distribution.
    I noticed that they needed to be sharpened some more so I sharpened the JPGs.
    Since LR does not change the original JPG file, I can I distribute the edited JPGs? The only logical think I can think of is to export them again, to a new folder.
    MichaelM

    I'm a bit confused by your description. I assume you have a "master" image in .NEF format (a RAW). You then export as JPG. What you've done at this point is create a new file (JPG) for use outside of LR. However, you say you sharpened the JPG. Since that exists outside LR, I'm assuming you resharpened the exported JPG using an external app like Photoshop. Or did you go back to the NEF and sharpen it some more in LR?
    In your second paragraph, you mention that LR "does not change the original JPG file" - what do you mean by that? Wasn't the NEF the original file? Or did you import the exported JPG back into LR. If so, then you're missing the LR paradigm. Your NEF is *the* original. There's no need to create a derivative JPG file and put it back into LR. If you want different versions of the NEF, use virtual copies.
    When you export, you are essentually going into your "darkroom" and creating a "print" for external use like email, web, or printer. What you have in LR should be the master image and possibly virtual copies of the master that have different edits applied. These are all used to create "prints" via export.
    To answer your question, if I understand it correctly, if you have edited a master image (your NEF) then you can export it again (as a JPG for example). You can keep editing the master and re-export it to JPG. This is like creating multiple "prints" from a negative that you keep scratching or whatever to make changes to it (using pre-digital terminology).

  • Export to jpg - limit file size vs resize to fit - best option or same?

    Hi,
    Sorry if this has been asked before, I take a large number of event images and the usual client request for images being sent to the press is image size rather than resolution, dimensions or other requirements.
    Clearly in LR3 if the client has requested 3MB jpg the easy option is to after processing take my Canon 5d mkii RAW file and just hit export to max 3MB jpg.
    My question is is it better - ie image quality better - to export by resizing longest edge to approx 3000 px and exporting to jpg which results in a similar file size, though different pixel dimensions? Or are they effectively the same?
    Any thoughts?
    Many thanks in advance on best practice....
    Cheers,
    dxbluey

    To tell you the truth, a client asking for a 3MB JPG is a very meaningless thing to do.
    Any time you are changing the number of pixels on a side, you are changing the image quality. Any time you are forcing the photo to be a certain size in MB other than the maximum, you are accepting a certain reduction in image quality. Which is worse? It all depends on the original, and how much change you are asking for.
    So, that's my answer ... IT ALL DEPENDS.

  • Export to JPG

    Hi
    I was looking for exporting the ai file to jpg file using the SDK CS4
    I was able to export the ai file to jpg file through the plugin based on the some code from the fourms
    the issue is i get an html file along with the jpg file when i do a PlayActionEvent
    I tried to export from File->Export as jpg where i dont get an html file
    I know for sure i have missed some code
    i have set AIActionParamValueRef vpb values for FileName, Format, and Extension
    error = sAIActionManager->PlayActionEvent(kAIExportDocumentAction,kDialogOff,vpb);
    I dont get any error, but along with the jpg the html gets created in the Path i have mention
    i just want to omit the HTML file
    What are the other settings do i need to set
    Thanks
    Sri

    This exact thing happened to me.  If I recall correctly, the 'parm' part of your value perameter block is probably not set up exactly correctly.  You might have too little or too much information in there byte-wise.  Here's an example of a structure of values that will work for the 'parm' property:
    typedef struct
        long quality;
        long kind;
        long scans;
        long antialias;
        AIFixed resolution;
        long colorModel;
        long alwaysTrue;
        long unused[18];
    } jpegExportParametersCS4;

  • 2D Picture Control Export as JPG

    Hi guys,
    I've created a radar plot using a 2D Picture Control. However on attempts to export this by using 'Get Image' I end up with a complete white/black (depends on background colour) square box. So in short, the radar plot created out of 2 variables is not visible.
    Any suggestions for exporting a .jpg file from a created radar plot from a 2D picture Control?
    Thanks a bunch!
    Solved!

    Have you tried the Picture to Pixmap function followed by one the Write JPEG Image file?
    EDIT: The snippet is a modification of the shipping example. All that I had selected for the snipper were the three VIs and the wires between them. Nothing else was selected. The snippet posted is what I got. (Didn't have the Code Capture Tool installed on the virtual machine.)

  • CS3 - can't import jpg - files grayed out - Mac

    I'm trying to complete a tutorial in Fireworks CS3 on Mac 10.5.6.
    The step I'm stuck on is:
    "Select File > Import and browse to the following folder on your hard disk:
    local_sites/cafe_townsend/fireworks_assets/
    Select banner-mockup.jpg and click Open.
    An insertion pointer appears indicating where the upper-left corner of the graphic will be positioned."
    None of the JPG files are selectable, they're grayed out.
    Other files in that folder, TXT and PNGs are selectable.
    Other JPGs that are not in the folder indicated are also selectable.
    I can drag the file from Finder into the Fireworks document ok.
    I've checked the Sharing & Permissions on the files and containing folders and they all have Read & Write.
    I copied a JPG that was selectable for import elsewhere into the fireworks_assets folder, and it's still selectable (not grayed out).
    The files were copied & pasted in an earlier tutorial step from a different folder (Macromedia Fireworks 8/Tutorial_assets).
    Trying to import them from the original location also fails.
    So it seems there's something specific to these JPGs causing Fireworks to not want to import them.
    I can't figure out what.
    The specific file I can't import is attached.

    Not sure why you can't import the file, I'd suspect something is goofed up with the actual JPEG if you can import other JPEGS with no issues. However, if you can drag and drop or  copy and paste the image into your Fireworks document then you're ending up with the same results the tutorial is aiming for anyway.
