[JS Mac OS X CS3 to CS4]

I created a program in CS3 for hyperlink. Following code will work fine in CS3. But when i am trying to run this program in CS4 its not giving me any error but i am not getting  expected output.
var myTextFrame_np = mydoc.pages.item(i).textFrames.add();
myTextFrame_np.geometricBounds = ["38p0", "26p0", "40p0", "30p0"];
var source_np = mydoc.hyperlinkPageItemSources.add(myTextFrame_np,{name:'P1:P2'});
var dest_np = mydoc.hyperlinkExternalPageDestinations.add();
dest_np.documentPath = myfile;
dest_np.destinationPageIndex = 2;
dest_np.viewSetting = HyperlinkDestinationPageSetting.fitWindow;
mydoc.hyperlinks.add(source_np, dest_np, {visible:false, name:'P1:P2'});
Can anyone tell me what i need to change in this program to work in CS4.
Thank you,
--Amit

Presently the Intel version of OS X is only available as the distribution DVD that came with your Intel Mac. You cannot boot an Intel Mac using the retail distribution of Tiger nor can you boot a PowerPC Mac with the Intel version of Tiger.
Also, Intel Macs require a different partition scheme than PowerPC Macs. In order to boot an Intel Mac a hard drive must be partitioned using the GUID partition scheme (an option in the Intel version of Disk Utility.)
Although this is purely a guess at this point, I would expect that the next revision of OS X, Leopard, will be made available both in PowerPC and Intel versions (and perhaps may even be a universal binary release.) However, this is purely speculative on my part.

  • New Mac up to CS3 (and CS4)?

    Hey, All!
    A couple weeks ago, I switched from Windows to Mac. I still like Windows (Vista), but...I'm thrilled with my Mac and OS X (though it's been frustrating learning all the new tiny navigation issues and such! Heh...).
    I worked with the Business Rep at a local Apple Store, and I explained to him that this was for running CS3 Master Collection. What I ended up buying was this:
    Mac Pro, two quad-core Xeons (8-core), 3.2 GHz, 16 GB of RAM, 2.5 TB of storage, and the GeForce 8800 GT with 512 MB of VRAM.
    Then I bought two Gateway XHD3000 HD monitors (2056 x 1600) connected via dual-link DVI.
    The sales rep assured me that I did not need two graphics cards, that this would easily power two HD monitors running Photoshop and After Effects.
    Well, UPS damaged one of the monitors in transit. Sigh.... The one I'm using now seems lovely and beautiful! I have other issues about calibrating it, but that's a different forum.
    Was the sales rep right? Am I going to be happy with this system? Or, and I going to find it's not up to the task and I need to buy a second graphics card? Most of the magazines I've been reading seem to think that one card should be enough too, that a second card is really for 3D applications, which I don't plan on running at the moment (though it would be cool to learn Maya!).
    I appreciate any advice or suggestions! Never having used Macs before, I feel completely out of my element, and just starting out with CS3 and such a high-powered workstation--a bit out of my league!
    Best regards,
    Keith

    Adobe applications are effectively equivalent on Windows and MacOS in terms of functionality, performance, and quality. At this particular point, a significant number of MacOS X 10.5.x operating system bugs (acknowledged by Apple) do cause some major CS3 problems. There are a whole fleet of threads about this on the MacIntosh InDesign forum. We are hoping that Apple will resolve these bugs with MacOS 10.5.4 and 10.5.5 releases currently under development (we don't have release dates for these or any guarantees that Apple will indeed fix those bugs for these releases).
    In terms of performance, you should expect comparable performance to running the same applications under Windows Vista 64-bit on a comparably-configured Dell 5400 or 7400 workstation - no better, no worse.
    With regards to the video card, the 8800 is probably much more than you really need unless you are also doing gaming! I couldn't find out whether it officially supports two 2056x1600 dual-link DVI monitors with 512MB of memory, although I believe it will.
    The only area where your configuration probably is non-optimal is disk. You erred on the side of capacity as opposed to performance. Those 300GB 15000rpm SAS (serially-attached SCSI) drives make a tremendous performance difference on either Windows or Mac systems. A Mac Pro system can only support four such drives internally giving you only about 1.2 Terabytes. I would have gone for the high performance 1.2 Terabytes and for archival and backup storage, added some firewire 7200 RPM drives.
    Enjoy your new system.

  • How to open Camera RAW (CR2) files in Photoshop CS3 and CS4? (Mac)

    I have a Canon 7D. I prefer to shoot in raw format, but the CR2 files cannot be opened by either Photoshop CS3 on my Mac in the office OR by Photoshop CS4 on my iMac at home.
    I have tried dowloading the Adobe DNG Coverter and Camera Raw 4.6 update (which is SUPPOSEDLY intended to work for CS3) and followed the instructions to replace the plug-in. STILL a no-go. CS3 STILL tells me "Could not complete your request because Photoshop does not recognize this type of file."
    What gives? Does anyone know of a way to get CR2 files to open in Photoshop CS3 or CS4? (A way that actually works?) Because Adobe's plug-in update doesn't seem to do it, and Canon's "fine-grain" editing controls for raw images is pretty lack-luster.
    Thanks (in advance)!

    Have you tried opening up out of Bridge? If that doesn't work you may new need to download a new driver from Canon. All my peripherals are Canon and I am always having to download new drivers everytime I update. Fortunatly they are really easy to find on Canon's site.

  • PDF from Powerpoint on Mac will not place in CS3 or CS4

    Got a customer supplied PDF generated on a Mac from the latest version of Powerpoint using the Mac Quartz engine. I can not place it in either CS3 or CS4 InDesign, but it will place in CS and CS2. Problems placing it there as well. The PDF contains a smooth shaded background that turns into a black box in the upper left hand conner. If I open the PDF in Acrobat 6 or 7 it also previews incorrectly. Opening in Acrobat 8 or 9 it previews correctly. If I have the customer send a postscript file and I distill it using PDF/A-1b:2005 (RGB) or (CMYK) it seems to work, well at lest I can place it in all versions of InDesign. The problem now is if I export to PDF after placing it reverts back to the black box in the upper right hand conner. Another issue is writing postscript flattens all the transparent objects in the PDF, something I'd rather not do. BTW if I try to use any other PDF setting in Distiller the program quits. Is this a known issue?

    Yes here is the report. Odd that it previews OK in Acrobat 9 tho and not in Acrobat 6 or 7, the two Acrobats that I use, because thats the version I have Pit Stop for. I know I should update Pit Stop but as it is we are lucky to still be open at all with the lack of work here, and can't afford to upgrade anything. I did get these to work but it was a real nightmare and took lots of time.

  • Illustrator CS3 and CS4 crashes on two different Mac Pro systems

    We have two Mac pro systems. Both are running 10.5.6. As of this morning both systems crash when trying to save files from Illustrator CS3 and CS4.
    I'm not sure if this started with a corrupted file, and when we tried to work with it on both machines it effected both.
    Does anyone have an idea?

    Do use TimeMachine for data;
    SuperDuper for imaging the system;
    Clone the system at least twice: known good backup image and for testing.
    Clone or image can be just a sparse image created with Disk Utility.
    I would also keep user accounts separate from the system and on 2nd drive.
    Rather than reinstall, use alternate systems. You may even need to do what others have learned to, one system for specific task or configuration.
    Use different user accounts.
    Don't rule out plist or preference settings or corruption.
    Normally I use Disk Warrior to keep a system maintained but TechTool Pro (5.01) will do more to check files for integrity and errors, and useful addition.
    If I was building a sytem today, I'd probably use 10K WD VelociRaptor or two for system, some scratch drives in stripped RAID for editing and saving work, and then media drive(s). With 3 backup sets of work.
    Apple now sells OS X 10.5.6 on DVD, replacing the 10.5.4 (and 10.5.0, shame there is no upgrade program) so they must feel 10.5.6 is gold. Not all software and hardware though does, but Sonnet just posted updates for their SATA Tempo card drivers. When it comes to production, newest and latest is not usually best.

  • CS3 vs CS4 - MAC

    New Mac, need DW for it. is there much difference between CS3 and CS4, is it worth the difference in price? I am retired and create just a few websites, money is an issue. I have used DW 8 on a PC. Thanks for the comments.

    In my opinion updating from CS3 to CS4 is a complete waste of money. I updated from MX04 and hardly found anything in it worthwhile. A few spry additions is about all that were vaguely interesting but as I write most code myself I tend not to use what I would say was over-bloated and overly complex coding provided by the Adobe team.
    Sure, its nice to keep-up-to-date but as you only produce a few websites CS3 is more than what you need.
    I'd always say miss out at least one update.
    Why not download the trial and formulate an opinion for yourself.

  • Can CS3.3 & CS4 Master play nice installed on same machine at same time?

    First off here are the specs on my desktop and laptop:
    Desktop:
    Mac Pro running OSX 10.5.6 - 2 x 3 GHz Dual-Core - 6 GB RAM - CS3.3 Master Collection currently installed
    Laptop:
    MacBook Pro running OSX 10.5.6 - 2.4 GHZ Intel Core 2 Duo - 2 GB RAM - CS3.3 Master Collection currently installed
    I recently received all the install discs for CS4. Spent the last hour researching how CS3 and CS4 play together when installed on same machine at same time. I haven't found anything that addresses my questions, thus the post.
    At present, not enough of my work colleagues have CS4, so if I install CS4 and uninstall CS3 - and need to pass a file on to someone who doesn't have CS4, they can't open it in CS3.
    Also, I use AfterEffects with many 3rd party plugins. Until I can verify that CS4 plays nice with these plugins, I can't afford to uninstall AfterEffects CS3. Obviously, I need to keep CS3 up and running on my desktop and laptop.
    But now that I have CS4 ready to install, I of course want to start using it and learning the new features.
    Has anyone successfully been able to install CS4 Master apps on a machine similar to either my desktop or laptop specs and have CS3.3 Master apps continue to work properly?
    I trust Adobe takes these types of version overlaps seriously and plans for them since people want to try out or start using the newest version but ensure there is a sufficient overlap period before uninstalling the older versions.
    Thanks for your comments

    j,
    Your old apps will work. But the new versions will be the defaults. You can touch your files to the old application to launch it or launch the old application first, and then open files "normally".
    If you need to ensure compatibility with older versions on other machines, don't delete the old apps. Or be prepared to save back to the old version before handing off the files. Note that InDesign cannot save back more than one version and in general, any features used that are new to the new apps will not be recognized when those files are saved back.

  • Do paragraph style overrides work differently in CS3 vs CS4?

    Hi All-
    I’m in the process of moving a workflow from CS3 to CS4, and have run into an unexpected problem. In the existing CS3 workflow, we receive copyedited text with Word paragraph styles applied, then import this text into our InDesign template. This template has all the same paragraph style names as the Word file, so we tell InDesign to use the InDesign style definitions in the Import options. So, for instance, the Word style for Para_Text is Times New Roman 12pt, and the InDesign style for Para_Text is Helvetica Neue 8pt, and on Import InDesign automatically changes it to Helvetica Neue 8pt. This is as we want it.
    Things fall apart, however, when we import the same text into the same template in InDesign CS4. It still applies the InDesign style definition, but has additional overrides to make it look like the Word style definition. So, it recognizes that the underlying paragraph style should be Helvetica Neue 8pt, but it then preserves Times New Roman 12pt as an override. If I select the text and do Clear Overrides, it’ll revert to the Helvetica Neue 8pt we want it in, but for other reasons that solution is less than ideal.
    I think I can come up with a rather kludgy way around this, but I’m trying to understand exactly why we’re getting the different behavior in CS4. It seems like paragraph style conflicts are being handled in a different way in CS3 than CS4 – in CS3, if the InDesign paragraph style specifically spelled out a font, that would dominate on import; now, in CS4, it’s allowing the Word paragraph style to seep through as an override. Any thoughts as to why this is happening?
    Thanks,
    -Nate

    Hi Chris.
    Good news. I cant tell you how happy i am for all your help ;-) and you other guys.
    The latest Eizo 5.2.1 software fixed the problem on all 3 Eizo monitors.. Weeee
    I'm back to normal.
    Now i just have another damn problem started not long ago ;(
    My Photoshop CS3 and CS4 keeps crashing on me after a wile of work ???
    I tried everything. Deleted preffs etc. etc.
    It have been working for long long time but suddenly it keeps crashing all the time.
    I tried to remove some new plug-ins, but it was not that.
    Only thing i did also was to install new ram.
    Upgraded from 10GB to 14GB in all our Mac Pro.
    So after i tried to switch the ram around to check if some was bad.
    Also run some memory software but everything came out right.
    So now the only thing left is that Photoshop dosent like ram between 14GB & 16GB.
    Under was fine and i never tried over 16 gigs.. weird
    Any ide what could corse this ?

  • Colors are different in PS CS3 Vs CS4, Why ?

    Hi.
    I just found out that colors of a photo in CS3 is not looking the same in CS4 ?
    I have a G5 with Geforce 6600 card in and i had to turn of OpenGL because it was so slow when it was enabled.
    Then i tried to open both Photoshop CS3 and CS4 at the same time to check a picture and saw for my suprice that the colors was not identical.. Weird.
    It is lighter in PS CS4 that in CS3
    Also from Bridge CS4 to Photoshop CS4 it was different.
    Is that normal. I woulden say.
    In my Suite CS3 all colors looks the same in Bridge and PS. OFCAUSE.
    I did check my color settings first. They are the same all over (Adobe 98)
    Is it a bug or is it because i turned of the open GL settings in PS CS4 ?
    If it is because i turned of the Open GL settings in PS CS4, that would be a very bad
    thing to do because many people have older computers where the GPU dosent work
    well with the Open GL settings ON and you can at least work when its OFF.
    But not if the colors are not right.
    Please. If someone could replay on this matter. I'm sure more people will like to know
    this. I'm not even sure many people noticed this, so everybody.
    If you have Creative Suite CS3 and CS4 on your Mac.
    Try uncheck the Open GL settings in PS CS4 and restart PS.
    Then compare the picture in PS CS3 and CS4 at the same time !!!
    Hope someone have some answers ?
    Thanks you
    Photographer

  • Dreamweaver CS3 instead CS4 for optimization on older hardware . . .

    Dreamweaver CS3 instead CS4 for optimization on older hardware . . .
    I do design for print and every year more and more customers have asked me if I would design their web site after I have designed their brochures and other collateral. For the last nine years I have never found the time to learn web production. I purchased Adobe PageMill and then upgraded to Adobe GoLive 5 but I have never found the time to learn these programs. But lately, requests for web design have persisted. I downloaded the trial version of Dreamweaver CS4 but it is too slow on my 1.25 GHz MDD Dual G4, running Mac OS 10.4.11.
    So I purchased the Dreamweaver CS3 upgrade, which was still available from Officemax.com. I also purchased "Dreamweaver CS3: The Missing Manual" by David McFarland. I'll be going through the tutorials on weekends trying to become functional with Dreamweaver.
    I'll be using it in WYSIWYG mode and not as a HTML coder.

    I would have been happy to make DWCS4 my first step up to Dreamweaver but with it not officially supported on G4 Macs and all the menus at the top running way too slow, I needed to stick with what is officially supported for the G4 by Adobe, Dreamweaver CS3.
    It is possible that future updates of DWCS4 will be more optimized and do OK on my G4. It is also possible that running my outdated version of Font Reserve 3.1.4, under Mac OS 10.4.11, is slowing down the menus on DWCS4 on my machine even Acrobat 7 Pro gives me slow menus with my current set up.
    InDesign CS3 is fast enough on my system and IDCS4 runs just as fast as IDCS3 on my Dual MDD G4.
    I don't think I will be getting an Intel-Mac desktop and laptop until 18 months from now.

  • How do I down save an Illustrator 6 file for CS3 and CS4?

    We save illustrator files to a windows network, No problems so far opening between the different versions.  But now we are getting errors like can't open illustration.  The file is locked or in use.  ID = 54.  I have tested the suggestions where you save the file in illustrator and then select the version to downsave to, however this does not work.  Also the downsave is from Creative Cloud 6 to CS3 or CS4. CC6 is installed on an i-Mac 10.9.2, CS3 and 4 installed on Mac 10.5.8.

    Why do you need to "savw" the audio files? Whatever edits you make will replace the old audio file with the new edits. Just do what you need to do to the audio and the corresponding file in your folder will be changed accordingly. If you DO need to save for some reason, When you "save as" simply save as the same name and it will replace the old one.
    Work as you usually do, and then every now and then, go to the audio window and choose "select unused audio" in the edit menu. Then hit the delet button! Anything not being used in the arrangement will be deleted.
    Read about the Project manager. It will delete any unused audio files from the folder you are working in and consolidate all files, samples, etc. It's worth learning.
    Good luck!

  • CS3 and CS4 on OXS10.6 and later

    I need to upgrade my Mac OS from 10.5.8 via 10.6 to 10.9 .I have both CS3 and CS4 running and want to check that they will both work on the new OS...?

    Brad Lawryk wrote:
    I just re-read your original post.
    Did you upgrade your CS3 to CS4 or purchase the complete CS4 package?
    If you bought the upgrade, I do not think you can run CS3 and CS4 on the same machine because it will make CS3 into CS4 and remove CS3.
    Not correct: it does not "remove CS3". Each upgrade is in fact a complete installation in its own folder structure.
    Obviously you can't have both running at the same time, but a lot of people keep at least one previous version installed.

  • Have CS3 and CS4, removed CS3, now no ID files will open

    I had both InDesign CS3 and CS4 installed.  By default when I would open an ID file, it would always open in CS4.  I forgot CS3 was on there so I uninstalled it and restarted the computer.  Now nothing starts in Indesign at all unless i actually open it with Indesign.  Also all the ID files no longer have the pink icon, its just a while square.  Is there a way to reset this?  I dont see a repair option in the ID setup anywhere.

    Platform? Windows or Mac? OS Version? If you are on the mac you could probably get that resolved pretty easy with RC Default Apps
    http://www.rubicode.com/Software/RCDefaultApp/
    I'd think if you didn't want to go that route you could just open CS4 InDesign, make a new doc, save it and it should get an icon. Right click that badboy and hold option to choose always open with. Toss a logout or restart into the machine and it should work for you. That RC Default apps is a real jewel though.
    If you still get issues maybe see if JoJo cures it. It's nice if you have multiple versions of ID or Quack XPress.

    JoJo is payware but everythere that guy makes has been worth it if you need it. Rubicode's Default Apps is free.

  • Download older version of flash CS3 or CS4

    where can I download a trial of CS3 or CS4 flash?  My mac OS can't handle CS5.

    You can purchase older versions of Fireworks on Ebay but be careful of pirated illegal copies.  Sometimes you can find a used copy of Fireworks and transfer the title and sometimes you can even find older never-used in-the-box Fireworks software.  Some of the older versions might not work on the newer Windows or Mac operating systems.

  • Trouble installing plugins for CS3 and CS4 onto a 32 bit/64 bit PC.

    I have two new PCs. They are supposed to run both 32 Bit and 64 Bit programs.
    I have CS3 and CS4 32 Bit programs installed on both.
    Many of my old faithful plugins have gone on strike or at least a work stoppage!
    I can get some of them to install correctly, but some arre just not cooperating.
    Is there a workaround for this problem?
    I have considered:
    1. Creating a partition for Window 7 32 bit, but I am not so technically savvy to be confident that I would do it correctly
    2. Buy an older 32 bit machine and install windows 7, but that is getting to the edge of too pricey.
    Any suggestions?
    I really need some of those plugins! I have built a business around them.

    The truth is that you can run Windows 7 and Windows 8, in both 32 and 64-bit versions, without any problem (you have a 64-bit processor). The problem is that Apple only supports a 32-bit Windows 7 version for your Mac. Why? Because Apple wanted to drop the Windows 8 support for the computer you are using.
    You can see in this page all the Macs compatible with 64-bit Windows editions > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1846 As you can see, your Mac isn't supported, so you can only install a 32-bit Windows 7 version with Boot Camp if you want to run Windows correctly.
    I told you at the beggining that you can install any 32 or 64-bit Windows 7 and Windows 8 versions on your Mac because your iMac meets the requirements for both editions. However, you need the Boot Camp drivers to make Windows run properly, and here's where Apple has dropped a lot of computers, making them unusable if you install a version that Apple clasifies as unsupported. Sad but that's true
